#LordoftheRingsLore #Gimli #HistoryofGimli - Розваги
Gimli exemplified what was best about dwarves while overcoming their least attractive traits. He's definitely one of their greatest.
Well said
He made me fall in love with dwarfs. Its my most favorite fantasy race
I would like to think that MOST Dwarves would have stepped up as Gimli did after experiencing what he had with the Fellowship. Maybe having Gloin as a father helped as Gloin spoke kindly, if not highly of Bilbo Baggins to his son.
"Well, here's one dwarf she won't ensnare so easily. I have the eyes of a hawk and the ears of a fox." -- Gimli
Always wanted to add: and he smells like a dung pile to that line. lol
And then before the dude leaves he gets what she wouldn’t even give Feanor
"The dwarf breathes so loud we could've shot him in the dark".
-Haldir homeboy
Let them come there is still one dwarves yet in moria who still draws breath - Gimli
Gimli has always been so underrated as I feel the movies downplay his achievements. I think Gimli deserves to be recognized as important to the dwarves as any other.
I think Gimli deserves recognition as one of the greatest dwarves because of his open mindedness in accepting Legolas as a true friend and his respectful adoration of Galadriel combined with his acceptance of the ents and Fangorn.
He wanted galadriel nutttt
The part in the movie where he's scared to ask Galadriel for a strand of her hair and he's just completely emotionally crushed when she gives him three has made me cry more than once.
Yes Gimli definitely deserves a place among the greatest Dwarves
I agree 100# that Lord Gimli was one of the greatest Dwarves ever! Also for him to go over sea with Prince Legolas attributes to his greatness as an Elf Friend.
"There is one dwarf in Moria that still draws breath!"
To answer the question at the end of the video, I will take it one step further and say that, not only was Gimli one of the greatest of his race, but one of the greatest characters in Tolkien's legendarium. We only see a sampling of this in the films, and even in the LOTR books. But when one delves deeper into his story, it is clear that he has among the greatest depth of any character chronicled in Middle Earth.
I totally agree with this.
Fuckin nerds....
Lol
Ya missed the part when Gimli found Pippin stuck under the troll he killed during the battle of the black gate :) saved our idiot boi's life!
I had the great pleasure of meeting John rhyse-davies at comic con last year in November where he helped me propose to my now fiance. All while I wad wearing a replica of the one ring, passing on another ring and having a small chat about my love for gimlis character. From his bravery to his playful rivalry with legolas, he's easily always been one of my favourite characters from tolkeins works. Getting to meet him and have signatures done along with helping with a special part of my life is a moment ill never forget. Such an amazing man and a dwarf any fellowship wouldn't be complete without
In the beliefs of the Dwarves, their creator Aule (whom they call Mahal) will rebuild the world after it is broken in the Battle of Battles, and the Dwarves will assist him in this act.
With Gimli sailing to the undying lands, it's amazing to think that he would actually SEE Mahal with his own eyes. To the Elves, Valinor were a place to escape the suffering of Middle Earth, and a place to live in peace and happiness.
To Gimli, it was all of that and more; He could live in peace, but still had a mission to look forward to. To him, Valinor was just a glimpse of an Arda that was to come. A template to improve upon.
Finally the video I've been waiting for. Thank you The Broken Sword!
This legend truly deserve a video of his own
Now I wish in LOTR trilogy Gimli was more of that type of character then mostly comical
Hell yes, Gimli was a cold serious killer, not comic relief. They diminished him by making him a joke.
I do love Gimli in Lotr.
Easily the most fearless character in the movies. Minus the one time he didn’t want to mess with the undead.
Just finished
Would love to know more and more about the other Dwarf races. I see that most seems to have some kind of own history and culture
Watch the triology of the 'Hobbit'. It's the dwalves backstory. You also see the backstory of Legolas and Trandruil.
To talk of Dwarves and not mention Gimli son of Gloin would be strange. Gimli is a great character in the books and in the films.
What-if video idea for you to do:
What if Gandalf never fell at the Bridge of Khazad-dum and continued with the Fellowship to Lothlorien and forward?
To answer your question of the day requires an agreed upon definition for “one of the greatest dwarves.” If we define this as excelling in everything exclusively important to dwarves (mining, battle, maintaining the honor of dwarves, etc.), then he is likely one of many. If, however, we define this as making the world around him a better place, then Gimley is absolutely one of very few to attain this level. Having played an instrumental role in ending Sauron would be enough, but he was instrumental in restoring relationships between not only dwarves and elves, but between dwarves and men, he helped carry forward the history of dwarves for other races to remember, and so much more. In this definition, the question is almost silly to ask.
Gimli is one of the greatest dwarves to have ever lived, he established the new dwarvish realm at Hornburg, he presented his people in one of the greatest quests ever taken in legendarium, he helped reestablished Moria....many great deeds and a phenomenal performance by J.R.Davies!!!!! James another great video, when is the live stream?!
Fathers of the dwarves! Great video, one of my main gripes with the movies is how they sold Gimli short. Awesome content lads and congrats on 100k
My favorite LoTR character ❤️🪓 idk why but I’ve always loved the dwarves the most in any story.
Aww he is my favorite character!
Gimli is my favorite character in LOTRs and is The greatest dwarf Who ever lived.
10:45 - LOL at the look on Celeborn's face, coming into into view from the right.
You should honestly cover all the subjects that you mentioned as deserving of their own video. Loving the content.
All of the videos you suggest I would like to give yes too cuz everyone of them you've made so far I always like it's always assume that we want to see something that you would want to do it's just that easy this is the best channel out there and I listened to every bit of content you have
By far the greatest dwarf ever written into Tolkien’s works
awesome vid James really enjoyed it hell yeah gimli is one of the greatest if not the greatest dwarf of middle - earth barring durin
BARUK KHAZAD!! KHAZAD AI-MENU!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!! You make the first hour of Monday work bearable. Thanks MELLON
'Golf' of Lune? at .44 seconds? Gimli: a fantastic deep character reduced to burping comic relief by Jackson in is revisionist movies.
Fathers of the Dwarves...definitely
Beautifully done!
I just wished that the last few Journeys of Gimli and Legolas will have a scene or movie on it's own!
Just made my commute!
Yes I completely agree. Gimli is one of the best Dwarves to ever live
Yes, he is one of the greatest dwarfs ever lived.
congrats on 100k man
Bravo!
Yes, I would like to learn more about the Dwarves as individuals, their ancestry and Tolkien's take on them as a race.
Great Vid 😁 Azaghâl, Lord of Belegost in the First Age, has to be my favourite though, hard as nails 💪🏻
Fathers of the Dwarves, though I know it all having read it myself many times, of course. I enjoy your narration and want my children to love this lore as much as I
One of your videos about the whole history of the Dwarves would be most welcome.
I like that Gimli put aside dislike of elves to become friends with Legolas.
Fathers of the Dwarves, x100
This is the best video you have done (for someone who reveres the dwarves above all the races of middle earth). So so so well put together. Thank you.
Thank you 😊
Elves and dwarves relationship would be something cool to delve into! Great vid as always
You tease us with these horrid questions! Of course more Dwarves! Gimli is underrated, largely because he is used for comic relief in the movies.
Yes!!! I didn't even know I was waiting for this video, but I was....
Yes!
Fathers of the Dwarves - the dwarves are my favorite Middle Earth race and I'd love to see a video about them
Next to Thorin Oakenshield, yes Gimli would be one of the greatest dwarves ever.
Gimli is one of favorite people in the movie!!
🥹👍
I looove this! One of my favorite characters.
Father's of the Dwarves!!!!!!!
While I love the Peter Jackson films, my biggest issue with them is the portrayal of Gimli and the Dwarves in general. Legolas was massively OP.
@1:04, because there ARE no Dwarven Women. The Dwarves just "spring up out of the ground!"
"It's the Beards...."
Lol! :)
Fathers of the dwarves. When an editor working on The Hobbit corrected Tolkien that the Oxford English Dictionary showed that the plural of dwarf was dwarfs, the author penned an angry letter back simply saying “I wrote the Oxford English Dictionary!”
I'm on a 1.30h train voyage right now. Pleased to have some good info right now
Gimli was not corrupted by wealth or the drive to obtain it, he sought the wealth to be found in lasting friendship which is why i think he was gifted not on hair but three by the lady Galadriel
Fathers of the dwarves for sure. That would be a great video.
Father of the dwarves
Bridging the gap with many elves and attaining a spot on the last ship to the west makes him greatest.
Fathers of the Dwarves!
Of course Gimli is one of the, if not the greatest dwarf to ever have lived, only head to head with Thorin Oakenshield and possibly Durin the 7th (if Durin the 7th fights in the Dagor Dagorath).
Fathers of the dwarves. Grant us this video
Gimli is the great champion of the Dwarven race. I find that he is the greatest dwarf in Middle-Earth, as he was not a king nor one destined for high leadership. He was a simple warrior and servant in the halls of Erebor. He served constantly......his family, his lord of Erebor, his companions in the Fellowship, his friends, Rohan, Gondor, King Elessar! Gimli's achievements set him apart because he did not chase a crown, riches, or greatness. Instead he pursued only his duty and his conscience, and this lead him to greatness to receive some of the highest honors from all the Free Races in Middle-Earth. A true champion indeed!
Gimli is best dwalf and Thorin and Dain ironfoot close second and third on my opinion and carry on with the brilliant videos
Yes I agree.
Yes
Sleepy, Grumpy, Gimli my 3 fave dwarves
One of my favourite parts of Lotr is Gimlis response to his message from Galadriel! He’s proper happy so funny
Gimli was given the nickname elf-friend, and was highly respected by the elves. His relationship with Galadriel was highly respected. She did, after all, grant him a gift that she had denied others throughout history (her hair).
Dwarven history and Elven history would be good to see.
Gloin is not prounounced Glow-in but Gloy-n. Likewise Oin is prounounced Oy-n.
Yes he was hands down
Deep dive into Dwarven royalty if there's more known now please!!! Dwarves deserve it, even if they're not part of Eru Illuvitars original plan...
Epic hero
Fathers of the dwarves
The dwarves of the elden times were undoubtedly physically stronger and accomplished than Gimli. The feats attributed to them are so impressive that they seem almost to be fairytale. However, Gimli is not comparable directly to those dwarves; Tolkien wants you to see that Gimli's openness to experience and philial love for the Elves and Men make him an entirely new and unique model for future dwarves to aspire to.
If this general story arc sounds familiar at all, it's probably because it is taken directly from the Bible. In the Old Testament there are people living 900 years, saving all life on arks, destroying their enemies by blowing a horn. But the New Testament brings an entirely new model of how to live; what used to be 'eye for an eye' becomes 'turn the other cheek' and 'love thy neighbor'.
The Numenoreans and Aragorn can be described in almost the exact same way. It's not nearly as on the nose about it's Christianity as a novel like Lion Witch And Wardrobe, but it's definitely there below the surface.
Dwarves are a long lived race....
Shithead
Lol
@@mrdark9916 this may come as a shock to you, but there is more Tolkien than just the movies. Read about Dwarves in the First Age before you continue to look silly here.
Love ya Gimli
Fathers of the Dwarves! I want it! Give me more! My heart thirsts for more knowledge!
yes i do agree that Gimli is one of the greatest Dwarves' that lived
FATHERS OF THE DWARVES
And yes gimili is without a doubt one of the greatest dwarves of middle earth. He did no much that few of his kind could and accomplished a multitude of feats
I still feel that Gimli was used too much as comic relief in Peter Jackson's films, and not as the serious and noble character he was written as by Tolkien.
yes
the only dwarf to reach the undying lands and "discoverer" of the glittering caves, favored by the lady galadriel? If he's not the best, he's certainly up there.
Always thought this character had a cool personality, and after this video his was played magnificently.
I honestly did not like gimli to begin with but after he met galadriel it humbled him out a lot and it changed him. He became somebody I would like to know and a good friend to legolas and everybody else he quit being such a hothead and that's kind of person I like. To me yes he would never get top spot but that's just because I don't know much about the rest of them
Fathers of the dwarves. Although I think it should be named "Dwarf Daddies"!
Father of the dwarves and yes gimli is one of the best
I gotta invite folks over to Lord of the Rings Online. The representation of Middle Earth is really quite good, and while I watch these videos, what I've traveled through in that game really makes it all nicely personal for me.
please do a video about the blue wizards
@@e23g72 ooh thank you very much!
Pikel Bouldershoulder is the greatest dwarf ever.
Not one of the greatest but in my humble opinion, the greatest of dwarfs!
Of what we know he is definitely in the top 3, But if Tolkien shared his thoughts more on the dwarves he'd be in the top 10
Lotr is my favorite trilogy. I wish Gimli wasn't joke character in the trilogy.
Gimli rocks.
Don't trust anyone who wouldn't put Gimli in a Top 5 of best Dwarves.
10/10 beards!
fathers of the dwarves!!!
fathers of the dwarves
Father's of the dwarves
Fathers of the Dwarves. You can check out second edition dungeons & dragons. There is almost 200 books. But it's the most accurate to real world and history including the critters
Fathers of the dwarves!
