The worst thing that happened to AEW was Vince being removed from power. When the WWE was bad, there were no expectations for AEW cause people were desperate for an alternative. Now that WWE is on fire, they're being exposed as a clown show with no leadership.

Well, that was the thing that Jim Cornette called out, almost immediately about AEW. The whole company was crowd-funded, and built off of, the hatred of one man and how he was running his company into the ground. With that mindset, and that business strategy, you better PRAY that it stays like that forever. It didn't and if anything it did a complete 180 and the WWE had an inadvertent masterstroke via getting rid of the fossil billionaire and replaced him with HHH.
In essence, with that business strategy it was really built on sand, on a beach, and the tide is coming in to collect rent. Sucks, but it is what it is.

I'm sorry but wrestling as a whole has been pretty bad outside the Cody stuff. Aew was giving a decent product relative to the crappy landscape. I think you guys are being extra marky and don't realize the mountain of mistakes and dumb shit wwe has done over the decades. Aew upon its first mistake had all you guys jumping ship and being completely irrational. In a year from now if say they just develop some really good stories and talent, you'd never give them chance because of this artificial tribalism.

Yes, Haich catches a lot of heat for the “Reign of Terror” and for who he’s married to, but two things have always been true even before those things took place: he knows the fundamentals and has a genuine love for the business. And, aside from the gas, he’s always lived relatively clean, so his brain is still as sharp as it ever was.

I know Tony is a huge ECW fan, but he's the exact opposite of Heyman. Heyman talked people into working for free, putting business expenses in their name, making them believe in something that didn't exist. Tony shovels money everywhere and still can't get anyone to believe in his vision

That's why I can't stand when people compare AEW and ECW because they're nothing alike. As someone who used to watch and attend ECW shows regularly, nothing about AEW reminds me of them. ECW actually had compelling storylines and angles to go along with their matches and despite all of Paul's faults, he was a competent booker unlike Tony.

Heyman did a lot of that i think because he was trying to run ECW and compete while not having the money to sign big stars while being raided for talent by both WWF and WCW. He was playing survival business tactics with the mindset of trying to keep people around and making it work until it became evident it wasnt going to be able to survive.

And, if aew doesn't get 300+ million in the new tv deal. *which is the number I keep hearing they need to keep the company a float* either shad is gonna consider getting out or aew is gonna go into wwe 2021 level of mass releases just to keep the business going. • @onewarriornation602
      @onewarriornation602 4 місяці тому +1

Here's the thing in regards to these comparisons.
Paul Heyman knew how to piss people off and push buttons to motivate them. He would take the cast offs like Shane Douglas and Raven and needle them to get their best. "YOU are a STAR, Vincent McMahon doesn't believe you are a star. ERIC Bischoff doesn't believe you are a star. You KNOW you are a star so go out there and show these diehard loyal fans You Are a fucking STAR!!!!"
He did the same with the guys who weren't getting signed. It worked. Everyone came together as a unit. We are ALL going to send a "fuck you" to WCW and the WWF every show as a united front.
It worked. It has always worked. When everyone is fighting to give 100% and constantly be improving themselves magic happens.
Shit, McMahon even stole Heymans style in the late 90's, convincing a roster full of hungry and determined young guys that they were at war against WCW and the World, not one another and that you had to carry your weight like everyone else.
Yeah, that's not Tony Khan. He is "rsh the fellas! Let's give Dave Meltzer a 5 star match tonight and have some fun! Yayyyyy!'

Man, you couldn't be more correct about how Tony has attacked WWE from the beginning. I wanted to like AEW, I'm all for competition, but the way Tony talks about WWE rubs me the wrong way. He's taken so much unnecessary shots, either by himself on Twitter or TV, or through his talent. He should have told them not to mention WWE, it doesn't do AEW any good. But week after week, someone would reference WWE on air, and most of the time it was in a negative way. I guess you could say MJF referenced them in a positive way, but it was always for some cheap pop. Airing the CM Punk footage was completely asinine, especially the way they tried to tie it into the Bucks/FTR angle, which didn't make any sense whatsoever. I want AEW to thrive, but Tony needs to give creative control to someone else, like Daniel Bryan or Dustin Rhodes. Someone with more real experience in the business. Tony makes irrational decisions because he's so thin-skinned, and his company would be so much more successful if he wasn't screwing things up. And he's also a terrible boss. He never handled Hangman for going off script, he refused to do anything about Jack Perry, to the point that Schiavone asked CM Punk to talk to him and that turned out badly for everyone.

I like how Bischoff says this because he did the exact opposite 25 some years ago in WCW and it wound up eventually burying WCW in the end cuz everyone started watchin Raw when Bischoff was revealing results of their shows.

Bruh, Conrad talking about how AEW should have been handled more like ECW is a point Eric has made multiple times over the last year and Conrad has naysay'd it only now to present it like a revelation he's had.

Not a fan of AEW, more of a casual pro wrestling fan but I really do wish they get their shit together, having competition is always a good thing. This whole situation has been an embarrassment

I watch both, WWE and AEW. As of late WWE has been way more entertaining than AEW. I pull for AEW I want them to do great. I like having an alternative, but I’m afraid Tony K is starting to fall short in his booking. I’m afraid Tony can’t read a wrestler’s charisma and who is getting over.

So instead of going to war like Eric did back in the day, he tells people to not make the same mistakes as he himself did at every turn in this industry? Wow Eric, understanding how wrong your own approach to the wrestling buisness is very commendable, I appload this approach!

This is all great and all but we need to have a safety manager who was a former pro wrestler over there at AEW to listen to the high spots those guys want to do and tell them hell no before someone dies.

I think that it’s okay for folks to temporarily go to AEW and eventually go to WWE. If everyone just flooded WWE, that would be overwhelming on the product!!!

If WWE wants to bring Hook to NXT, Raw or Smackdown and Hook gets more or less something comparable his AEW salary, schedule and creative control of his character he should go for it.

Im still in shock and awe that they went to canada and only drew 3.5k$....like how is that possible for whats supposed to be a major promotion??

  • @namikstudios

Eric's point that 2019 was a great time in the wrestling landscape to launch a new promotion like AEW is true... to a certain extent. The time was right in the wrestling world but unfortunately only a few months into AEW the entire world came grinding to a halt when the Covid pandemic started. That was the absolute WORST time to be starting a new promotion or new anything really. All the early momentum AEW had came to a screeching halt. Yes, WWE and everyone else had to deal with it too, but their audience was already well established rather than in the early stages of being established.

All I'm saying is I went to the ECW arena many times as a child and it is still some of the best memories I ever have because that arena is 20 minutes away from where I live and was lucky enough to see some of those shows live and in person

I would imagine the sales pitch to HOOK would be to look at the rise of Dom Mysterio. Someone who has taken the opportunities he has been given, but also has been able to develop his craft through live events plus TV matches.

This is something. I’m glad the Japan big 3 (New Japan, All Japan, & NOAH) don’t do. Take shots at each other and instead coexist while still competing. And now those 3 along with like 9 others have partnered up to form like a gathering to promote pro wrestling in Japan. Wish this would happen here. WWE & TNA are working together and WWE even has a relationship with GCW of all places. Meanwhile AEW is on the outside relying on New Japan & CMLL

Bischoff was an entertainer in public and a decision maker in private during the most popular era of the industry, when television was still relevant to everyone from teenagers to adults, and his experience is being questioned by a billionaire rich kid with no practical experience beyond watching it on television and geeking out as marks then having matches with action figures and plastic belts like the rest of us did. even the average fan like me can see it lmao

I agree, for as much as I like some of the talent in AEW its becoming more & more difficult for me to find a reason to stay invested in the company on a weekly basis with the exception of the PPV's. But the weekly storytelling is so scattered with no cohesiveness I feel like I can pop in for PPV's without following the shows & not feel lost because everything is so random there.
