Eric is speaking from a management perspective, and it gels with how many fans feel so the overwhelming majority line up behind Eric....for now. That could flip at any point. The most interesting thing about it to me is that the old promoter/executive and the fanbase are at the exact same point right now....that nearly never happens, and it shows how far gone Tony is running his company. It's obvious to anyone standing outside looking in that AEW is a dumpster fire. Possibly the nicest dumpster fire in history, as Tony seems to really be a good guy, but a directionless mess nonetheless. Hell, lets talk about Jade. She still would look exactly the same regardless if she touch AEW or not! Meaning she would have been hired the moment she showed an interest, and have spent those AEW years in NXT instead and actually been able to debut on the main roster as a single.

Since Conrad wanted to keep asking what would have happened to Cody Rhodes, I'm certain he would still be in the same spot he is today, just the road there would be a little different.
Instead of being an EVP of AEW he would have stayed on his course of working New Japan and NWA, maybe even TNA. I think he still would have gotten to where he is today and the only thing that would have been lost is the god awful Rhodes to the Top nonsense.

Assuming Cody and Aldis still have their NWA Heavyweight Championship matches, Cody staying with NJPW/NWA means Cody would have had a Rubberband match with Aldis for the title.

Conrad’s grasping at straws. His point bringing up Cody Rhodes - Cody leaving WWE and launching AEW helped Cody hone his presentation and made him a top guy in AEW. Cody did that, not Tony, not AEW. Conrad’s point seems to be that AEW changed the landscape by affording Cody the room to work without creative limitations and - this is key - get HIMSELF over. AEW doesn’t get credit producing a top guy, they get credit for staying out of his way. Tony’s creative did not create Cody Rhodes.
But the case could be made that Cody had already accomplished all that before ever stepping in an AEW ring through his work in TNA, ROH, etc. The only thing AEW really did was give Roman time to build up his legacy to improve the story w/ Cody.

I agree with Eric Bischoff in that Cody would have happened without AEW. People tend to forget that Cody developed this "American Nightmare" character in Ring of Honor, IPW, TNA Wrestling, and New Japan. If anything AEW stunted his growth as a character because HE should have been their first world champion. Not Chris Jericho, and certainly not Jon Moxley as the second. The fact that it took 18 mos after the inception of that title before a NON-Former WWE guy was crowned Heavyweight Champion in AEW is ridiculous.

Now I agree with you that someone should have stopped Cody putting that stipulation on his match with Jericho and he should have been one of the first AEW champs, but the simple fact of the matter is that Cody is also a former WWE guy.

Vince McMahon's vision for Cody Rhodes and what Cody became on his own are two vastly different things. Cody bet on himself and became a legitimate star outside of the WWE to the point where he was able to convince a billionaire mark's son to fund a passion project of his. I don't think Cody becomes who he is without leaving WWE.

It would still exist, but it wouldn't have been known. Cody helped AEW got a better platform because he has a lot of connection in the industry. Without Cody, there wouldn't be the Elite or ex WWE wrestlers like Jericho and Moxley.

He's got a good amount of veterans around him, but he wants them as wrestlers or managers, not agents. He turned down Bret Hart as an agent and made Cassidy an agent. There aren't a lot of guys better than Bret Hart at telling stories in matches, and he only saw a manager in him. It boggles my mind. AEW could be decent if they drop some of that indy mindset and if he surrounds himself with a team of good agents and lets someone else book

The answer is someone that the WWE audience is already aware of that left the company and came back better. We have seen that happen before, so you can't attribute that to AEW. Conrad is so disingenuous. Eric's beef was with the line "AEW has changed the wrestling world" and rather than addressing that line, Conrad says "wait a minute... Are you saying they haven't had any impact AT ALL?" Who said that? That's one end of the spectrum to the other. Changing the wrestling world is a far cry from them having some kind of impact somewhere. And rather than Conrad disproving Eric, he just says he's dead wrong. Period. I've proclaimed and therefore it's true. Eric at least laid out why he feels the way he feels. Conrad just gets butt hurt because Tony is a buddy and he feels the need to defend his friends fantasy booking program. The more TK opens his mouth to elevate his company the more he loses fans or would be fans. He will have his loyal small group that will always defend him but that isn't going to get him to the top. Not even close. Especially with his Harvey Weinstein comment. He's only dividing fans. Maybe that's what Conrad means by AEW having an impact. The impact is more division.
The only contribution AEW has made to the wrestling industry was Sting’s retirement run. The Icon finally got to go out on his terms. Other than that I agree with Eric.

As a casual wrestling fan, I watch this show mainly for Bischoff's opinions, not Conrad's. The identity of the co-host usually doesn't matter to me. The episode with Bully Ray was particularly intriguing. It involved asking Eric for his opinion and then dismissing it as foolish simply because it wasn't the answer they wanted. I don’t entirely agree with what Bischoff said. I like to believe that AEW’s initial success may have given WWE a hard kick in the pants needed to get their act together and takes things more seriously. Also it wasn’t for Cody Rhodes coming to AEW, WWE may have never seen the actual value he could bring to crowds and have welcomed him back to their company.
You would like to believe that...but it's not true. Vince ended up losing his ability to book good wrestling. Also, him going through his legal troubles is what allowed Triple H to take charge and turn things around.
That explains your WWE "kick in the pants" talking point.
Also, Cody was never a star when he left WWE. He wasn't a star when he went to AEW.
So there wasn't any value that WWE was missing in regards to Cody.
Plus when he was at AEW he NEVER got over and was getting booed his last few months there.
He came back to WWE with a story and a character that people believed in. Cody's years of hard work with the opportunities he earned from WWE is what made him the champion he is today.
AEW didn't motivate WWE to do anything...and they damn sure didn't do anything to help Cody's career

Eric is right, WWE changed because of the outing of vince mcmahon, the rise of HHH and the merger of TKO. AEW had no effect on any of that.
