The dynamic of this show now reminds me of when Cornette had the woman cohost… I liked hearing Jim, I couldn’t possibly care less what his co host thinks and I dont think they play off eachother well, same thing here.
Watching this clip, I finally got why Jim Cornette rips the piss out of Conrad Thompson. He isn't an expert, but he does a Dave Meltzer and pretends he is, all while he is sitting and talking to a man who has worked in the industry and is an expert.
Eric Bischoff, you are worth so much more than Conrad. James Romero on Story Time with Dutch Mantell does his research, can throw in additional observations, elaborate, clarify and do so while clearly articulating that he is glad to be there. Conrad just sounds like a slug going through the motions and whining when his bias is challenged.

Wow... Conrad completely missed the point. You can say Dusty "looked" like the everyman, but he didn't "carry himself" like the everyman... that is the difference. When Dusty walked in a room, you knew he was there and you knew who he was. 99% of the AEW roster could walk into a room, and you wouldn't assume anything, because you wouldn't even notice them.
The problem with Conrad's defense is that Eddie doesn't act like the "everyman" ... he is pretending to be a mid-90's AJPW legend.... and it just straight up doesn't translate on screen. He looks like a sloppy, over-sensitive, kinda dorky, middle aged guy who is being gifted the chance to live out his AJPW fantasy by a spoiled billionaire who thinks he's a wrestling expert, but can't even open the ropes for somebody without looking like a completely inept putz.

Conrad's comparisons are always surface level. Because Dusty was fat means it's okay for Eddie to be fat. Dusty got to be fat because he was really athletic AND could actually work. I completely agree with what Eric said about WWE's presentation. Everything is so clean and sterilized that it doesn't come across like a live sports event in an arena, it comes across like a stage show.

While I think the overall showcasing of their top stars and storylines is MUCH better than AEW, the WWE shows and PPVs are way too overproduced, oversaturated with screens and commercials, and overcalculated right down to the way someone turns and faces the camera.
They need to keep dialing it back. Triple H has started toning that down quite a bit since he took over, but there is still a lot of work to do.
AEW may have some of the absolute worst booking and showcasing of their talent, but at least the show has the live, anything can happen, raw feel to it.
yeah, I’ve noticed little gradual tweaks triple h has been making. It seems like they are trying to slowly recondition the audience to a more sports style format, but I don’t know how much they are going to be able to bring back that feeling in the arena itself at this point.
Conrad's UFC comparison doesn't apply to wrestling and misses the point entirely. Wrestling has for decades been about over the top characters that grab your attention. You don't need polka dots or tassels, you just need to look different.

When I was a kid watching wresting, these guys either had super hero style or over the top personality and they backed it up. I didn't care how realistic it was, it just made things more interesting to watch like a comic book in real life. I am just as old or older than Eric and I agree mostly with him, especially the Jimmy Hart quote. Perception plays a huge role and if everyone dresses like a ragamuffin as a whole, they will be perceived as a bunch of ragamuffins. Who stands out? Who shines? Sure, the performance is what they are ultimately judged on, but you don't typically buy ugly or generic looking food first. You are drawn to what LOOKS good. What STANDS out. Flair, Goldust, S. Micheals, Savage... These guys all had big presentations that made them stand out.

You're just supposed to accept them as good. They don't need to actually be good.
its weird. As good as moxley is when it comes to promo and stuff his matches never seem to hit me at all. it always felt something was off while he work in the right outside of the shield. I use to love watching him after the break up of the shield but looking back. Nothing he did in the ring felt epic. He no sell his opponent constantly and goes for gimmick spots without any flow.

The Flock did not suck. They looked similar but they all had their own backstory. That’s why it worked, and why they looked like they did. Wasn’t main even level, but it was still memorable.

He tried to make a point using the UFC, the UFC is huge because it’s legitimate fighters and sporting competition… but that said, they’d probably be better off if they let guys customize trunks, have more elaborate entrances, and let them cross over and become bigger stars. The UFC has always made the brand 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in case talent leaves, it would never overshadow the product. They’re not a great example.

Kingston gets offended and whines every time someone criticizes him. The “Everyman” gimmick needs to have ultimate confidence to get over - Eddie doesn’t have that. He’s a great promo, but his look and matches portray laziness more than confidence.
