The thumbs down shows that there are very very evil people out in the world. In no way, this kind old lady should have gotten thumbs down. Now i'm upset and need to make her coleslaw to be happy again.
Love it! I learned to make the sour cream version of this recipe. It is the Taste of summer around my house. My grandmother would always rake the cucumber along its length with a fork "to make it look pretty" before slicing. Thank you!!
When I watch Oma's videos it really makes me think how wonderful it would have been to have grown up with grandparents living close by ( they were in England, we are in Australia) ....to be able to cook togeather and learn her special ways (and secret recipes etc) from a grandma would have been something very special...my mother left the family home when I was 8 so I was raised by my Dad in a house with 4 brothers...I really wish things had been different but I had a wonderful Dad :) I love watching Oma cook :)
Dearest Oma, I was just asked this morning if I could please bring a Coleslaw to a birthday party. I will be making your recipe this weekend! Looks delicious! Oma, you reminded me of my Gramma. So very sweet and soft spoken. A beautiful women you are from the inside out. May God's face shine upon you and be gracious to you. Numbers 6:24-26 Blessings, Karen :)
My grandmother’s name was Oma, Thanks for the memory ! I was the only grandson and pretty much lived with her in the early sixties. She lived in the kitchen and there was always something simmering on her stove till past supper time. We had apple trees and her scratch apple pie was awesome.
Sweet! Exactly how my Gran and Mom made slaw and cucumber salads. Nice to see these 40’s and 50’s dishes are still the backbone of our ancestors. Thank you for sharing. 👍👏🥰🍽
Thank you for these videos! We can learn so much from our elders and Oma is wonderful to watch. Cooking can seem so complicated at times, but it really can be just deliciously simple, as she demonstrates. ❤️🌹
I too had an Oma.Unfortunately we never met. She spent her whole life in Germany, but when she wrote my Mom she always put in personal notes to each of her enkelkinder (grandchildren). It was cute because my Mom has that strong German accent and she sometimes would struggle over the translation. It made me laugh. I told my Mom I wanted to learn to cook German food. (THE FOOD of my PEOPLE) I always loved cooking. The first thing she taught me was Cucumber Salad. Not sure how old I was but I barely reached the counter.Countless times she would lift me onto the counter so I could see how she was preparing meals. It left a place in my heart for the Oma I never met.Cooking always came easy to me. Unlike math and sciences. It had also became a curse at times. There was 6 of us in total One after dinner snack , I was craving an egg sandwich. To be polite, as we were taught to do, I announced my plan and asked anyone else if they would like one too. Of course they all replied with a resounding, YES.But Dad shouted above the rest. Make me 2. And of course my 2 brothers agreed with Dad. They will have 2 ea. as well. By the time I was done making theirs there was no bread or eggs left. I was so sad and had peanut butter and jelly instead.lol Then I had to wash the dishes. Talk about an injustice. Thanks Oma for sharing your recipes with us while you were here. You seemed so gentle and sweet. I'm sure the family thinks of you often and misses you even more. God Bless you all.
Thanks for all your great comments. Oma loves to hear them. Sorry for not responding sooner. Hope you've had a chance to watch them all. More to come in a few weeks.
I really enjoy watching your videos! It’s wonderful to learn the old fashioned methods of cooking at home. Now that I’m in my 70’s I enjoy cooking homemade meals and I enjoy learning ethnic meals. I’ve made your meals and I definitely enjoy them, they are delicious!
So very special ! My grand children call me Oma ! I’m not full German , but my grand daughters grandma is and because of her my grandkids started calling me Oma ! I love it ! Thanks for this video ! ❤️
Made your coleslaw and cucumber salads, today. Love you 😍 Oma! You remind me of my mother with the box grater:) I used my Cuisinart.Greetings from New York City.👍🏽🇵🇷🗽❤️💙
You make me miss my grandma. She was 96 when she died. She was Pennsylvania Dutch(Deutch) and had a very similar manner and way of teaching. She lived a bit too far for me to see her all the time, especially by the end. Every moment was precious though.
Thank you so VERY much for sharing these wonderful recipes with us. I wish you might turn down the background music a bit (it's a bit too loud, and a bit too monotonous), the real music is your voice (so back ground music is not needed). I can't wait to try these 2 salads.
My grandma was German, but my Uncle by marriage was Hungarian. I remember his Mother being by them making a lot of the same things that you do. I was told by my parents to eat things to be polite. Well, it was so good, was not being polite, just ate it. Except cucumber's.
Oma you sure do love your salt, pepper, garlic powder, and celery salt! I am enjoying your videos. Your recipes are l little different than my Oma’s, but I can tell they are just as tasty!
Oh my god!....that's exactly how I peel cucumbers and slice it the same way. My mom taught me when I was about 8 years old....I don't know why she taught me to peel it with a knife when we had a vegetable peeler! 😂
Oma I made your coleslaw recipe today, it was YUMMY!!! The best I’ve ever made. I’m going to start the chicken paprikash with bow tie noodles. This will be for supper. I will let you know how it turns out. I’m using onion, shallots from the garden last year, red and yellow peppers chopped, carrot, celery, cut up cherry tomatoes. Oh my gosh your chicken paprikash was totally deeelicious! My husbands mom use to make this, ive never made it before, so I really surprised him today lol. And he loved it, he loved the coleslaw to. Thankyou Oma for the most delicious recipes. Love from Saskatchewan Canada xoxo
My parents always taught us to use a knife to peel cucumbers, potatoes, etc but used a peeler on carrots..lol. I always wondered why not the carrots too? I definitely prefer peeling with a knife though too. Great job!! ❤
I still can hear the Hungarian language while Oma is spaking. It's so nice to hear... :D We make another cucumber salad in my family in Hungary and that's cucumeber with joghurt (or "aludtej"), salt and garlic. It's yummy! With chicken paprikash and nokedli.....
I have beef paprikash slow cooking on the stove this afternoon. Sometimes I make "sour cucumbers" to go with the paprikash (my Grandma and Mom did that often). They did not use garlic powder but minced onions. My Uncle (who I live with) likes a bit of sugar, but I don't. I have to make two bowls!
Just like my Oma cooks!! I have never been able to get her to measure anything for me :-) Thank you so much for this cucumber salad recipe, it is almost like hers. She adds onion to it, but the best part is the cucumbers. I had forgotten how she squeezes out the liquid-an important step, and am excited to make this tonight! Vielen Dank!!
my oma added hungarian paprika to the equation and so do... I also forgot to squeeze the cucumbers and ended up with too much liquid.. glad i watched and I will make the squeezed variety today.. with paprika of course
She is one of the most PRECIOUS human beings I have ever seen!! What a BLESSING to have her in your lives!!
I'm mesmerized by her grace and gentle, wise soul. Such a beautiful, delightful, stunning soul. Talented and so easy to love!
The thumbs down shows that there are very very evil people out in the world. In no way, this kind old lady should have gotten thumbs down. Now i'm upset and need to make her coleslaw to be happy again.
