The iron bomber's pipes were bigger by such a small amount that it basically never mattered. If you want the actual numbers, it was a cube with a side length of 8 hammer units, all other pills save the loose cannon had a side length of 4. This effectively means that it had an extra 2 hammer units of hitbox since you can only narrowly miss on one side. For reference, the default movement speed in TF2 is 300 units per second. Heavy, the slowest class, runs at 200/s, meaning he can cover the effective extra size of the old iron bomber's pipes 100 times per second. It was probably the biggest example of people complaining just to complain in the history of videogames.

I love how informative this video is, I’ve been turning into a more serious Demo player as of recently and wasn’t really aware of the Loch’s potential!
Finally someone who actually touches upon the loch n loads actual boon. Like no seriously I nick named the loch the "screw this guy in particular" launcher because it pairs up so well as a harassment and finisher weapon. Its like paired up with stock and the quickie you can just pick off anyone. But of course you have to substantially get really good with the loch. I segway this to the loose cannon on how slow it is compared to the other launchers. Kinda how stock is also inconsistent with its rolling pills but the thing with the Loose cannon is that window of opportunity for sustainability. The other launchers simply sustain more than the loose in comp in general. I still appreciate the fact that the loose still has that ever so slight niche in 6v6 comp. At the end of the day this doesn't stop me from loving all the launchers equally because they all have a function and dopamine rush to hit
My biggest issue with the iron bomber is the lack of range, the smaller explosive radius doesn't bother me as much as the range issue but its kinda fair considering you can be more accurate with your shots
Stock for overall versatility, quickie for offense, Scottish resistance for defense, and sticky jumper for purely mobility based gameplay and meming around on hightower
The difference was almost completely imperceptible, it only made a difference in very near misses and it wasn’t even close to being 8 times larger than stock. Braindead youtubers and redditors blew it way out of proportion after watching shounic’s video and created the meme of it being a “crutch”.
I demo main with sticky jumper in slot #1 w/iron bomber .. it's great for getting behind enemy lines or moving in quick for a hard push. Taking out sentries is fun and challenging
On 2Fort, I am often in situations where aggressive Engies build just outside our base, and I attack/defend as Demo from the battlements. Whenever I have the Iron Bomber equipped, the enemy buildings are conveniently placed on the bridge, where rollers are all that can hit them due to the protection of the roof. So I switch to Stock to use the rollers to deal with them- only to find they've moved forwards and nested directly at the walls of the the battlements, where having grenades that could hit said walls and fall straight down would be HIGHLY beneficial. scottish ressistance is an amazing sticky launcher for me tho, you can't use it in a direct fight at all, but its faster firing speed allows for VERY FAST trap dispensing at any moment in the game, not only last hold
you can use it in a direct fight, it's just worse but you do have methods. It has a longer fuse but a higher rate of fire, so "lassoing," is firing behind your enemy first (a lot of players will impulsively back up when they get pushed) so there's a chance they walk into those right away, but before you even wait to see how they react to that, you fire stickies in front of them as well. And start filling in the gap if needed. You can do this pretty quickly due to the high rate of fire and swap to your primary as needed, then just start detonating stickies in the course of the fight. It and the quickiebomb (though each have their tradeoffs here) can do something called "sticky shielding," where you destroy enemy stickies mid-flight as the resistance, quickie and short circuit are the only weapons in the game that can destroy stickies mid-flight. You do this by putting stickies somewhere between your team and the enemy demoman in anticipation of certain exchanges, then detonating them ideally one at a time (so you would have like a line of three stickies spaced out just enough to individually det) as enemy stickies pass over them. I have a friend that used to do it with quickie against enemy demoman kritz pushes and the demoman just loses all of his damage
