valve has finally ended the debate between PC and console, answer, valve master race
Mathew Watters a pc is still way more expensive... And we got to buy the controller too... Lets not talk about the many problems with pc versions of games... I could go on. When it comes to couch... Consoles are better. Period.
Edgar, pc games are more cheaper + xbox live or ps plus costs money so you will save money in the long run and still get a more enjoyable experience with pc. There are small pcs that are alot smaller and packs better hardware than a console.
Let me show you.
You buy a small powerful pc + a keyboard and mouse or a controller for $800
You use the pc for 3 years and you buy 10 games every year.
Games on pc are alot cheaper so therefore you will be saving in money when buying on pc rather than a console. You often save about 10 - 30 dollars buying pc games rather than buying console games.
Lets say average 15 dollars.
A console costs $300 and comes with a controller. A fee of $55 is needed to play online ever year. In 3 years that is $465.
If you buy 10 games a year and you save on average $15 from buying pc game rather than console games then you can see that you save $450 dollars when buying 30 games from pc.
In alot of cases you save $20 or even $30 buying a pc game compared to a console game.
Take for example Far cry 5 that is new released. The cheapest i can find for console is $53. I go to g2a and far cry 5 costs $17 for the russian version (which i can easily activate even though im in another country, just need a vpn when registrating). That is $36 difference between them.

I like this controller. I kinda need the precision of a mouse control, yet I can play as if I'm using a controller! Steam controller seems to be the best choice now. Hands down. The grip button, analog pull, and digital switch is definitely the icing on the cake for Couch FPS gaming.

It really didn't age like milk. It is still a wonderful controller that most people just don't understand how to utilize to the fullest.

Half life is overated. After playing HL 2 I laughed. This is what they praise? It's meh.
Well it's not as impressive anymore. If you played HL1 when it first came out in 1998 it would have blown your mind. It was way ahead of its time. And HL2 blew everyone's mind in 2004, it was also way ahead of its time. I can definitely see how playing them now would be underwhelming, cause they are outdated.

Curniers This isn't for hardcore pc gamers, Its for casual ones. Not everyone is comfortable using a keyboard and mouse to game, and some games just don't feel right with it at all.
I feel fine playing with keyboard and mouse, but most of my friends who are console gamers don't and it really keeps them away. The steam controller will hopefully help people with that type of thing. Its seemingly innovative and visually pleasing unlike some 3rd party controllers.

The best controller known to man.
I am not convinced that a touchpad will be able to be as useful as a mouse.
In fact, having used a touchpad to control the camera in third person games occasionally, I'd even go further: I am not convinced that a touchpad will be as useful as the right thumbstick.
I'll wait for actual reviews and opportunities to use it myself before I'm getting hyped about what looks like a normal controller with a laptop's touchpad slapped on it.
That being said, the rest of the features looks amazing. So I'm getting hyped a little bit nonetheless.

Doofus All the games he tried were controller-friendly 2D games. The point where a mouse becomes invaluable are 3D with significant camera controls, like FPS games.
I think that the Steam controller can be a pretty neat alternative to the traditional controller layout, but that won't be enough to compete with the mouse in games that favour quick, precise input.
EPR89 I've been using the prototype pretty extensively and while no, it's not quite as precise as a mouse, it's damned close. Like, close enough that I have no hesitation about using one with an FPS, and I loathe the typical Xbox/Playstation controller and "me too" clones for FPSs.
EPR89 To be fair, I play Team Fortress 2 on a Macbook with no mouse, just a trackpad. While I can't turn all the way around in one fluid motion while sniping or stop from firing the Huntsman without flicking between weapons, I have just as much control precision with a single finger as anyone I know who uses a mouse.
I'd say it's really more about what you're used to. I tried playing TF2 with a mouse awhile back, and I got so frustrated with what felt to me like weird, awkward controls that I just gave up and went back to the trackpad.

Just a heads up if you plan to use this as FPS controller. Make sure to put gyro on and adjust juusssst right. Anyone who played Splatoon would know gyro is actually quite helpful!

Hmmm that mouse part seems more like a laptop sensor pad as opposed to an actual mouse, looks rather awkward but I won't know until I try it anyways, so who can tell?

I read of someone going through 3-4 just because of that same part breaking and no way to fix it.

For the faults of this controller, the keyboard feature is probably the best thing this controller did. Seriously, Xbox and PlayStation should adopt the same keyboard system, it's infinitely better than typing one character at a time.

I am very impressed with Steam. I drew up a controller a long time ago and this reminds me of it. Very well thought out. I am seriously looking into getting this system.

There is a community that still uses the controller like I do. If you were to ever consider getting it you need to not just really be open to the controller design but also want to create configurations for all your games as well. Also I got the Steam Link 2 months ago as well and I can now play any of my games on my pc in my living and also watch my shows I used to watch on my pc.
Please bring back the Steam Controller, this is the best controller!!!

literally the best controller ever made for its task (keyboard and mouse games, in situations where using a keyboard and mouse is cumbersome). It needs to make a comeback.
Such a shame Gamers™ these days suffer from brain rot due to 2+ decades of the same controller design to the point they think anything without a right stick is useless, completely failing to grasp the concept of "genre peripherals" (you don't see anyone complaining about how their hitbox built specifically for fighting games not only doesn't have a right stick but doesn't have a left stick either, do you?).

I do get the concept and Its biggest strength is versitility is hella versitile but the buttons the triggers and bumbers do suck (is clunky hard and cumbersome)

I know that the paddle buttons in fps games are great for crouch and sprint, but they will be KEY in rts games. You can simulate the dozens of buttons you need in dota by making "alternate" functions with the buttons

Old mouses, before those we have now, ( that have censors in the bottom) had censors under a ball, that you controlled with your thump. And it worked fine. Some mouses like that can still be bought I believe.

Mouse+controller? GENIUS I allways loved plaing on controller but I had problems with FPP games and controllers wasn't compatybile with games that use Mouse.

Hmm... The reason why Half-life 3/Episode 3 is taking so long is because it was planned for Source 2. And that is also the reason why they haven't released any games at all for like, 3-4 years, the Source engine is outdated now. I am really hyped for Source 2.
