I'm so glad the themes aligned and you brought this, Wendy. It's never too late to learn lessons from history, to apologise, and to make up for historical abuse and exploitation.
@@ukeanflute Thanks, Sabine. If I'd chosen them myself I couldn't have come up with two more perfect themes for this than you and Andy did! 😱 It's too late to restore the damage done, never too late to make amends. Some of the lessons disappear too, as time passes, but yes, we can always seek and heed the lessons still available, and we can always learn to be good to each other! Thought-provoking theme, empire....
Wow - an epic in 3 minutes, Wendy - amazing stuff. Even when I was a boy, the British Empire was still talked of as something to be proud of - apparently we “civilised the world”. And even if that were slightly true, so much irreparable damage done in the process on a scale that beggars belief. I think I need to read that book. Great job here! :’-(
PS, as my song implies (and the book as well), empire is still with us, it's just changed form to continue unexamined. When Liz II died, I suggested to fellow Aussies maybe it's time to become a republic? They either didn't care or were horrified. The king of England, wealthy heir to all the deliberately inflicted horrors of empire, is the head of state of my country here half a world away. They'll swear till the cows come home he's "just a figurehead", but suggest replacing him with an actual Australian, and they'll protest it can't be done and the only alternative is the ridiculous system of my other country, which is also THAT way because, you know, slavery (US empire). Which we also haven't gotten away from. Anyway, it's an eye-opening book!
@@desertpavement510 Thanks, Andy. Omg, "empire" theme! I had almost given up on doing this song and then *that* came up. So I figured I had to! I spent all afternoon on it yesterday....

Brilliant vibrant synopsis of a dense thought provoking book! Love the Uke!

Thanks, Del! Great book, not an easy read, but I'm very happy I stuck with it. Let me know if you read it!

Confluence indeed. I’m currently reading The Rediscovery of America, by Ned Blackhawk, which hits many of the same themes. Good parody Wendy

I think those guys in the background have something important to say. I wonder what it could be.
