Damn. Unlucky
Any recommendations for colour setup
@@paulofreitas7085 Yeah, these companies really need to sort their naming schemes out, it's getting ridiculous to know what supports what. Someone in the comments has a pretty decent list of detailed calibration settings that look good. Might want to give that a try. The only color issue I had was that it looked a little warmer than I prefer, so I lowered the reds by about ten points or so, and dropped the other two by a few points too.

So much for the entire review, had no idea the comments were character limited!! Sorry!!
Thanks for adding all of that info, man, I'm sure it'll help a lot of people get a better idea of what to expect with this monitor! Appreciate it.
I'm leaning towards this one, the WQ, but I'm curious as to what the difference is between it and the WQ1B model. From what I can tell, apart from the stand, one has 250 cd/m2 brightness, and the other 400 cd/m2. I can adjust the lighting in my room however I want it (I live in Corfu island in Greece, where is always sunny but I use sun block curtains and usually like to only let a little light come through the room), so is this a factor? ***Edit: I'm interested in the HDR feature, even if it isn't the best. Will it look better at 400 cd/m2?
Thanks for this great review.

I got this as a utility or secondary monitor. My main display is the predator XB27 and they both go well together. I got one for £179.00 a 23.8-inch version with an IPS, 1ms. Shadow boost and the lot. For only £179.00, you can't go wrong. Asus do focus on the quality of their TUF products over the ROG in my opinion. My one doesn't have the gamer details on the back, just the TUF sign and I like it neutral because my Predator is just too gamer-looking with the red details so it is good to have something more neutral besides it.

Amazing video, I’m thinking of getting it, so ah should I get this or Gigabyte KD25F? I watch movies, anime and play games. Only a few competitive fps but yeah. What do you think is better for me?
If you aren't super serious about competitive gaming then you should definitely go with this one. The 240 Hz is really overkill for most people in my opinion, and the larger size and higher resolution of the TUF makes it much better for general use like watching movies/anime.
Also thankyou for being one of the few tech channels to actually answer people's questions in the comments, this shows dedication to both quality, and community, well done.
Really appreciate the kind words, man! One of the benefits of being a small channel means interacting with the community is actually possible and I want to keep at it for as long as I can!
Your review sealed the deal for me. Great video.
Great review. I actually like the stand for this monitor. The flat(ish) base is flat enough to hold decorations or small figures, which is right in my wheelhouse, and it's very adjustable which is highly desirable to me. I've looked at some other curved monitors and several of them had fixed stands which makes them an automatic skip.
Thanks! And huh, interesting point. I was going to mention that the forward slant of the base wouldn't make it ideal for something like that, but I guess if you just use some rubber adhesive or something on the bottom of the figures etc. it'd be perfect for it.
Thx I learned a lot
Thanks so much for this review i could barely find any videos on this model. Will get mine in a few days been checking the specs and all that all the time sounds like too it's good to be true lol.

I found that monitor a month ago and i wasn’t really sure if it lives up to my expectations. Thank you for the review👍🏻 I bought it today😉 From 60Hz to 165Hz finally🤩
Haha, nice dude! I'm hoping to make the jump from 60Hz too ASAP! It was SO hard to go back to it after sending this monitor back, lol.
Hey how is ur monitor im thinking about getting it
Kashouri Katsu i am glad i bought it. I can really see the difference between 60hz and 165hz and the difference between 1080p and 1440p👍🏻 The only thing that i dont know is if the Extrem low motion blur. Because I dont really see a difference🤨 Sometimes i think it makes it more responsive but a bit more blury so? But everything else is fine and i can recommend it because i never had a really expensive high end monitor so i cant say if the monitor is bad or good in that regard. But i had a really nice curved 1080p 60hz samsung monitor and the new monitor performes better in my opinion🥳
Can you get 165hz from the hdmi?
@@naqire No you can‘t.

Well.... I bought one thanks to this nice review, after receiving my VG27WQ I found out you can't turn on ELMB and FreeSync at the same time, later checked the manual, and it also states that FreeSync needs to be switched off before enabling ELMB, bummer :(. Still a very good monitor.
Damn these confusing product names! Sorry about that, man, I was working on multiple monitors and must've gotten confused. I've checked the manual for this specific model and you're absolutely right. I'll add a correction to the video stating that the monitor doesn't in fact support running ELMB and Adaptive-Sync simultaneously.

Great review,
I am looking to upgrade my gaming setup (or rather get one) from my old LCD 42inch tv and move my PS4pro (and future PS5) to my desk. I have been looking for a good monitor to add to my multi screen setup (I'm an IT guy, working from home a lot) so the screen should be multi purpose.
I see a lot about "IPS is way better than VA". Is there still a big difference between the IPS VG27AQ and the VA VG27WQ considering the price/value? I mainly play FPS with some good single player titles mixed in between.
I'd say in your case the color accuracy and other benefits that come along with IPS panels might not be worth the price premium over similarly spec-ed VA panels. I personally need good color performance for video editing, and in certain cinematic-type games like Cyberpunk, an IPS panel will usually look slightly better. But when it comes to fast-paced shooters, the minor difference in quality between the two different panels really isn't a big deal to me.
Thank you soo much !
Thanks for this in depth review! I've been looking for a review on this one for a while now. It's hard to find the right monitor with the amount of options there are, especially if you don't know much about this stuff. So yeah thanks for explaining all the features, it was really helpful. I just bought it :) also depending on where you live there's this cash back promotion from asus right now, so you'll save 30€
That's awesome, glad the video helped clear things up for you! I'm seriously considering picking it up for myself too. After using it for a while, pop back and let us know how you like it!
Hey, How's the monitor been so far? really stuck between this one and the MSI MAG272CQR.
@@MalpasDan Oh hi, thanks for reminding me! Actually I sent it back after a week. Don't get me wrong, it's a great monitor with some nice features. But somehow my eyes hurt after a few minutes and it got worse the longer I used it. After 1-2 hours I would get a headache and had to pause. I've never had this issue before. I tried every setting but couldn't make it any better. I looked it up and I think it was the PWM flicker, but I'm not sure. This seems to be a very individual problem since my boyfriend didn't notice anything even after several hours. I got a smaller IPS instead (VG259QM) and that's the best option for me! You probably won't have this issue though and if you don't, this monitor is a solid choice!
@@riken4648 I see. No problem, I appreciate the reply. Gonna weigh my options up some more, all the best.
@@riken4648 That's so strange, I've never heard about that issue! Could it have been because of the ELMB and the flickering that goes along with it? Or did you have that turned off?

Then we'll both be here for a very looooooong time 😂 Nah, appreciate it, man!
Thank you for an excellent review
Great review! Would this still be a good monitor for running games with a GTX 1050TI (also might hook up a PS4/Xbox One)? My PC is fairly modest and I rarely get above 60FPS. I am looking to upgrade in the future, but just want to be sure I'll be able to enjoy this monitor for gaming in the meantime. Thanks!
Thanks! Monitors with high refresh rate and higher than 1080p resolution won't be worth it purely for gaming right now, because like you said, you won't be getting much more than 60 FPS (although having that buttery smooth 144Hz even just for desktop use is awesome). But if you're planning an upgrade sometime within the next year or so then it's definitely a worthwhile upgrade. So yeah, you'll be able to enjoy it in the meantime, just make sure you're able to upgrade soon or it'll be a waste.
Literally everything I was looking for in this video AND you play Apex, SUBBED and thank you!
Appreciated, brother!
Apex I see. I was looking for a new monitor too so I might get this one
Hey! Thanks alot for this review, I've been thinking of buying this for some time now. The thing that worried me the most was the color accuracy. But now I'm not worried anymore. Just one question. Do you think I will be able to hit 165 hz at 1440p with RTX 2070 Super?
Playing Minesweeper? Yeah, sure, no question. Playing GTAV with graphics mods set to "uber" details - probably no.
You shouldn't have any trouble hitting that, depending on the game of course. You might just have to lower some quality settings in certain games to hit that 165Hz, but it's a fair tradeoff to make.
Ight thanks :)

It should, but I really can't say anything for sure without spending some time with the new consoles myself.
hello, does asus vg27wq work in 4k 60hz with your xbox x series console?
Would you still recommend this monitor to people playing on the ps5?
Try this, These are the settings that work well with the VG27AQL1A : Racing mode, Bright 79, contrast 74, Color temp, user, R93 G92 B89. I returned the VG27WQ, because blue light filter made the screen dark yellow, no matter which level of blue light filter I used.
AQL1A has worse reponse times than the WQ by a lot. You made a big mistake there.
You're suggesting the settings of a 130% sRGB IPS monitor to a 120% sRGB VA one, they are terrible on the VG27WQ.
I tried calibrating this monitor as close to sRGB as possible. I also had the VG27AQL1A next to it, as well as the Asus pro art professional monitor. This monitor is great for gaming, but not for graphics work and color correction. The VG27AQL1A came much closer to srgb although this monitor VG27WQ had better black performance and uniformity. Despite rtings recent review of the VG27AQL1A and their proposed icc profile, i found one color that was totally off on both monitors. It's a reddish coral color R191, G76, B89. The Asus VG27AQL1A was much better in HDR, I find this monitor is too bland. I find this strange since they are both rated at 400? I did find HDR a tad better on the Dell gaming monitors Dell S3220DGF
, exaggerated
Gino, I'm a noob at this. Can you please explain what settings I have to change in simple terms to get to your suggested profile? I have to add that I will be playing on the FPS mode and would like to change colors so that best performance and color accuracy is given. :) Thank you so much
@@JohnnyEase It really depends what you want to watch. The VG27AQL1A is much more color accurate than this monitor. If you can afford the VG27AQL1A for $50 more go for it. I returned this one. To get close to sRGB try RTS/RPG Brightness 74, cont, 74, saturation 30-34. Color temp user R,95 G93, B89. Do not use Shadow boost. If i remember correctly HDR looked quite poor on this monitor compared to the VG27AQL1A.
@@ginogiori5285 Thx for taking the time to reply, I just cancelled my order bc Inrealized adaptable sync and ELMB are only available on AQ and the TN panel. I now ordered the LG 27GL850, focusing more on latency
@@ginogiori5285 is the VG247Q1AY any good in the areas you suggested
Because WQ is for games. The VG27AQL1A is for those who needs very accurate colors like photo editors and such. But I wouldn't even care and just grab the WQ instead because of the better response times. It's like 8ms vs 20ms. That's a huge difference!

Looking to purchase a monitor and this was in my top 5 list, what do you mean by ghosting?
@@Tx_Jay_ I mean that the ghosting is horrible. It's a complete dealbreaker. I did the ghosting Test and with the speed of 1920 pixesl the image (Ufo) appeared 2 times on the right and left side. So in total I saw 5 Ufos instead of one clear image. So I just can recommend you to buy a Monitor which is not ghosting. I bought now an LG one and it's so much better.

@TheTechTank / what are your thoughts on VG27BQ (TN panel) in comparison to the WQ (VA) and AQ (IPS) models? looking to link one of these monitors with the PS5 mostly for FPS games. The price in my region for all 3 monitors is relatively the same. that being said, will I "really" benefit from the efficiency of a TN panel? or am i better off going with a curved/immersive VA or a color accurate IPS? your opinion is greatly appreciated!
Any of those would be great for the new consoles, tbh. I personally much prefer IPS panels so I'd go for the AQ, but it's more of a personal preference thing than anything else.

Appreciate it, man! Honestly, the performance increase will differ from person to person. I can almost guarantee that anyone switching from 60Hz to 120Hz+ will see a performance boost, but just how much of a boost depends on you. If your reflexes in the game are really fast, you might see a bigger boost than someone like me who has the reflexes of a snail 😂 Either way, from what I can see from your system, I would definitely look into upgrading your monitor first. Appreciate it, man! Those monitors offer different experiences, IMO. The VG27WQ with its bigger display and higher resolution is a great middle ground for people who like their esports and AAA games equally, or esports gamers with a monster PC that can push high frame rates at 1440p. While the VG258QR looks to me to be a more pure esports gaming-focused monitor, with G-sync thrown into the mix as an added (expensive) bonus.
This probably seems like a stupid question, but I’m sort of new to all this! I’m looking at getting this for the next gen Xbox, but don’t have a pc.. I’m wondering if you can still utilise all the same features while using a console? As it looked to be mostly configured via a desktop? Great video though really in depth
Don't worry about it, man, we were all new at some point. And thanks! For the most part you'll be able to get your money's worth with this monitor hooked up to one of the new consoles. You'll still be able to run at 1440p, 144Hz, and I'm sure the new consoles will have settings built-in that will allow you to change the monitor's configuration. I also think you'll be able to use Freesync (since the new consoles run AMD graphics), or ELMB (enabled through the monitor). So I don't think you'll really miss out on anything. You might just not be able to overclock the monitor to 165Hz as I think you need a PC for that.
The Tech Tank really appreciate you taking the time to reply man! Even more great Info! Thanks again, definitely earned a subscriber
Would you reccomend this in a 3 monitor set up? If not which monitor for a similar price would you?
I'd love to get three of these in a triple monitor setup, with the curve they should work amazingly together. The viewing angles should be perfect for it too.
is this a better option than the vg27aq for budget? I don't know if I should go for this or the vg27aq, but this is cheaper at around $350 while the vg27aq is sitting around $450 to $500 so I'm stuck. Do the cons outweigh the pros? Still new to this Dort of thing so thanks.
The AQ is the better of the two for sure. It uses an IPS panel which is better for color accuracy (not AS important for gaming and general use, but VERY important for professional applications), and it has a couple of other improved features over the WQ like official G-sync compatibility. As for whether that makes it worth the added price comes down to you. If you'll mostly be gaming, and don't care about the ELMB Sync thing (which is a tiny bit gimmicky) then the WQ should suit you just fine.
Nice review! Is VG27WQ sold under another model name somewhere else? It seems like there are really no comparisons between AQ and WQ models.
Thanks! Not as far as I'm aware. It seems like ASUS pushed the AQ model much harder in countries like the US/Canada than the WQ, so it didn't get nearly as much coverage.
How fast is the VA panel? Most news about these monitors is on the VG27AQ which is the IPS panel version. Is there a mode that prioritizes speed for things like FPS'? Or is it fast enough that the extra lag isnt really noticeable
What do you mean when you say "fast"? Is that in reference to the refresh rate, the response time, or...?
@@TheTechTank
Response time.
@@ravenwda007 not that good. you notice smearing from white to blacks but only in that transitions. white to grey you dont notice. It's not different from the other VA panels in that matter.
Got the 1B with the downscaler for my ps5 to accept 4k signal into 1440p and it works perfectly, great monitor
What’s a 1b? I got a ps5
@@illuxxxion60 1B is part of the VG1B series. The exact monitor name is: VG27WQ1B . This is perfect and worth the value since 4k monitors are too expensive.
@@RobinForever22 I just bought the 1B for my PS5. It hasn’t arrived yet but I can’t wait. What are the setting you use on the monitor that best works for the PS5?
@@Real_N3m3sis I never messed with any of the settings but out of the box worked fine. I’m sure with some things adjusted it’d be better, I just never did . Sorry about that
Great work, after your video mines arriving tomorrow for my Xbox series x.
Awesome, report back on how you're liking it!
@@TheTechTank do you have any recommendations for the display settings?
@@ellogames96 Unfortunately I never documented them and can't remember what they were, but I do remember just calibrating according to my preferences. I'd recommend just playing around with all of the settings to see what works for you.
Hi! do you finde a way to quick switch into diferent source? like swap from hdmi 1 to display port?
Does this work with the PS4 Pro? Will it help downscale from 4K, and still have a crisp image?
Not a great choice for the PS4 Pro at all. PS4 Pro can't do more than 60 FPS, so you'd be missing out on the high refresh rate of this monitor.
How well does gsync work with this monitor? This is my deciding factor on whether I get it or not.
Didn't specifically test for it, and it's not on the official support list. However some people are saying it works fine for them.
I’ve got bugs stuck inside this monitor and can see them in between the outer and inner layers. Any idea how it get them out? Take the screen apart? It’s driving me crazy!
Just bought it! Thanks for the review my man! Now only if the ryzen 5900 or 5950 was available.
Awesome! After playing around with it for a bit drop by again and let me know how you found it! And yeah, I've been eyeing the 5900 myself, but I think we'll only see those chips become more widely available like in March 😂
@@TheTechTank will do, my luck was real high yesterday I guess. I was able to get a 5900 off newegg. I'll let you know how it is in a week or 2 !
Would this monitor be okay for next gen consoles? I have a LG 4K HDR 5ms Monitor rn but I’m willing to give up 4K gaming for 120 fps and higher Hz
It should be good for the new consoles, you might just miss out on some features that I'm not sure will work on them. Also keep in mind that Sony hasn't confirmed yet whether they'll support 1440p 120Hz+ (although with the new Xbox versions supporting it, I'm sure the PS5 will too).
$260 on Amazon now. I think ima get one. I've been wanting to upgrade but can't really go over $250. At that price do you think I should get this or is there something better? I ask cause I know this video is a couple years old.
Best purchase I have ever made! I love it
I was looking into getting three "VG32VQ1B" when they were on sale just recently, but didn't receive my tax return in time. I had sent a email to Asus to see if they would honor the sale price when I could order them, and they wouldn't.. so I decided they can pound salt and I'll buy from another company. Glad I did I found a really cool screen the Samsung Odyssey G9 costs is about the same, and has more bells and whistles.. Will be ordering that soon as I can :D
That's epic, man, Samsung's pretty much the best option out there when it comes to monitors (since they produce their own panels), I just wish they weren't so prohibitively expensive 😭
Would you recommend the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27VQ curved for the Xbox Series S?
Wasn't able to test with the Series S, but I've seen a few comments saying their X and S work great with the WQ so I'm sure the same is true for the VQ.
I’m a total noob when it comes to monitors etc but this sounds like it would be an awesome choice for the new series x? I’m not concerned about 4K, just want to get max refresh rates and low input lag. Is this likely the best option in this price range currently?
This monitor should be awesome for the new consoles, especially for people like you who aren't too bothered by 4K (I'm not sold on it either). That being said, there are probably cheaper monitors out there with similar specs that you might also want to check out. I'm just worried that the consoles might not be able to take advantage of all of this monitor's features, so you might be paying a bit extra for features you won't be using.
@Charles Wellington lll I have this monitor now and have it connected to my series x but can’t get it above 60hz, not sure what I’m doing wrong?
What do you think 3080 for this monitor?
Some people are saying they are will be ghosting and tearings?
Perfect for the 3080. The ghosting is very minimal, especially if you use ELMB (check through the video where I show footage of Hardware Cannucks showing the ghosting). There will be some tearing if you choose not to use adaptive sync (you can't enable adaptive sync and ELMB at the same time with this monitor).
What do you think of the TUF GAMING VG24VQE model I can't find rivew of the model anywhere except on the official page of Asus and how rare it is with almost the same characteristics as the one you present up to 165 hz but at 179 dollars I'm confused I don't know if to buy it or not
I'm pretty sure that's just a smaller version of the 27WQ in this video, so everything I said about it counts for them both.
Just picked the ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B for £320 watching reviews is getting me excited
You should be hyped, man, that's a dope monitor!
Purchased this for PS4 PRO gaming (27inch). I overshot the PS4 pro capabilities as Blue light 1-4 unavailable also unavailable is game preset modes but keeping as PS5 is here soon which will do 120hrtz gaming..is still better than psvr which is where I have been using it as a screen mode for years now so is a blessing that PS5 is for purchase soon..HDR game mode is available that i use with Freesync been very smooth on COD MW (using Razer Raiju TE just updated, recalibrate and blown air on modules) £342 next day delivery to London UK from CCL computers over EBAY UK. Would recommend this for PS4 pro owners! P.s. Thanks for the review helped to make up my mind.
P. S. S. Blue light mode and preset modes available now as I dropped this about 1ft on edge of table while setting up vesa mount where power button is working intermittently, only when on first for few minutes. Take extra care guys setting up vesa mount.
Thanks for sharing your experience using the monitor, hopefully it helps others with their choice too!
Does this have the 4k downscale tech so that it can run with a PS5?
Do you know if this monitor supports 4K Input and downscales it? I want to pick this up for PS5 but PS5 doesn't support 1440p so I need that feature.
Considering the new Xbox consoles support 144Hz at 1440p, I'm sure Sony has built it into the PS5 too. Sony hasn't confirmed this yet though, so can't say for sure.
Hey, I have HDR enabled on my xbox series x and using a 2.1 HDMI cable but the HDR option on my monitor is greyed, any idea how to enable HDR?
Is it compatible with g-sync? Saw people saying it works with Nvidia too. I have the rtx 2060 and I might buy this monitor
I entirely forgot to specifically test for it, but I do know that it's not on the official support list, but I have also seen a bunch of people claiming that it works just fine for them. Will remember to test for stuff like this in the future!
Hi The Tech Tank, how do you enable HDR on this monitor? I've been trying to enable it in the menus but is disabled in grey all the time. I hope you can help me. Thanks.
Hi! I believe you'll need to enable HDR on your system in order to have the option available on the monitor. Open Windows HD Color settings and make sure that HDR is turned on. Let me know if that works out for you.
Hi buddy,
if you have the ps5, will you make a video to show us how we can put it on 120hz? Looking over the internet and many many people are trying to put it over from 60 to 120 hz but it wont work..
Would love to, but a PS5 is very much outside of my budget right now. I've been seeing that just switching from "quality" to "performance" in some game settings should do the trick.
Does this monitor has a lot of ghosting or lose some colours contrast/brightness at high refresh ? It often happens as i see with budget monitors
Not that I noticed during my time with it, but some people are complaining about minor ghosting.
I'm glad this monitor has speakers built in - I use it for my Xbox Series X and don't always want to wear a headset. with the headphone jack though I can add my own speakers.
Would you reccomend this for ps5 i know it aint 120hz in 1440p yet but sony is on about adding it to ps5 in a update so would like a good monitor like this
Until Sony FINALLY confirms 120Hz @ 1440p I'm really hesitant to recommend any high refresh rate 1440p monitor. After Sony adds the functionality I'll have no problem recommending it - it's a fantastic monitor for the price.
Great review
