    HDMI 2.1 is for new gen tvs and monitors and consoles and the sort. It is meant to support up to 8k. WIthout a 2.1 supported port on your monitor, your ps5 will not run 4k at 120hz at the same time. Youll have to pick one or the other without a 2.1 port.

There's always something better around the corner and if you keep thinking about the upcoming or just released monitors that are better than yours, you'll literally never enjoy your setup. Trust me, enjoy your monitor. If it helps, it's better to even be ignorant of better monitors existing giving you piece of mind for your setup. Doesn't work for everyone but who knows.

    I tested various display setups over the past couple of years, went the 4k path way too soon, when 980ti was barely able to drive those 2015 games in 4k at reasonable details, ditched it back to 1080p, then went double 1440p 27", then to 34" 1400p, never thinking I need more than those 75hz because I can''t tell the difference. Got a laptop with 165hz, that convinced me I can tell the difference, so I have the laptop 16" 165hz 1600p, the 34" 1440p for movies, and my primary is the Dell Gaming 24" 240hz. And I hope it will work fine for another few years, because it is the best screen I ever had, bright, great color accuracy, fast, and it cost like 220 EUR. 27" would be better, but Dell does not offer it as IPS, it is just right size, great spec, and to pay 4x more, it would really have to be a game changer to switch to that.

    • @blahorgaslisk7763
      @blahorgaslisk7763 2 роки тому +3

      Yea, I'm with you on that thing about having to eat crow regarding the "I can't see a difference" thing. I have a 1440p 144 Hz monitor and a lot of games can take some tweaking to get the minimum fps up to anything over 70. And I haven't really considered that to be much of a problem. Now the other day I was playing a game that had no problem running at 144 fps. The physics engine was however written to run optimally at 60 fps so it had a built in frame rate limiter. I was testing it out at unlimited first and everything was running fine. So I tested with the limiter set to144 fps and again everything was fine. So I set it to 120 and suddenly I thought it felt choppy. It was a very weird feeling, but definitely not just a placebo effect. However after a few minutes I stopped noticing again.
      So yes, I can see/feel a difference when I go down in fps. However going up from 120 to 144 I can't claim to actually notice the difference. Thing is I'm way more sensitive for stutter, so back when I had a slower graphics card and a 60 Hz monitor I sometimes locked the frame rate to 30 Hz and enabled V-Sync. For me that was way better than running the game at sometimes 60 Hz and then either live with screen tearing with V-Sync disabled or horrible stutter with it enabled.
      But in the end everyone have to choose what they prefer and balance their expectations with what their hardware is capable of and what they can afford to spend on upgrades.

      The problem is that you need a huge office to accommodate a 48-inch screen. Then you have to stay far away from the screen because the density of pixels is not important enough.
      Then if you do word processing (word), the readability of the characters is a little blurry.
      Then there is always the problem of the reflections of the slab if you are in a bright environment.
      Finally, there is always the minimal probability of burning.
      In short the choice of the Oled is not yet perfect, especially because of the size of the slabs which remains too important. It would take 34-36 inches maximum.

      @Blahorga Slisk The things I mentioned refer to Asus monitor. You are right, the best way to compare is to actually see it for yourself in person but that's typically not possible. The reason I mentioned those things is I personally dislike when people are like the oc - oh I got this cheap and it has all these features on paper hence its better. No, the price is there, usually, for a reason, especially with monitors. But then again, some people can't tell the difference between 1080p and 1440p/4k so it all depends on your specific use case.

    The real smart play is still 1440p. When it's a demanding game, you play at native. If you end up with extra GPU resources, use DLDRS 2.25 to render at 4K and downscale it for that awesome antialiasing. Plus you can get refresh rates anywhere from 165hz to 240hz.

    Why is it so difficult to get good HDR on a gaming monitor? I'd love you guys (or someone) to explain this one to me. New monitors keep coming out pushing refresh rates, response times, resolution, color, you name it. And yet in spite of all the bells and whistles, monitors are still stuck on HDR 400 for the most part which to me is a substantial disadvantage compared to TVs. Am I missing something here? The only proper HDR monitors I see are for creation, not consumption, so you lose all the other good stuff for the sake of that one aspect.

      Vast majority of monitors don't have enough local dimming zones to be able to get the deep blacks and ultra high contrast ratios needed for true HDR. And to be clear, it's not just gaming monitors. The reality is unless a TV or monitor is an OLED or mini-LED (with hundreds of local dimming zones), it's not real HDR.
      Like another reply mentioned, there are several mini-LED gaming monitors coming out in 2022, but be prepared to spend WELL OVER $1,000 on them. I think the Viewsonic 4k mini-LED is going to cost $2k+ USD.

    • @blue4059
      @blue4059 2 роки тому

      1) Low demand. The "True HDR" crowd already have an expensive TV for video watching and gaming, therefore do not have a reason to need HDR on a smaller work monitor.
      2) Only FALD can achieve brightness of 1000nits in "HDR Sustained 10% Window" required for HDR1000 spec, and over 300nits in "SDR Sustained 100% Window" for monitor use. WRGB OLED cannot do either of this. Still, the best looking HDR gaming monitor under $1k USD is LG C2 42" OLED. Lots of good FALD HDR monitors out there but they are naturally expensive to make costing over $1k. New QD-OLED monitors hitting the market this year will be a good middle ground between the two, and capable of HDR1000.

    You're not really future proofing by buying any monitor today. With local zone dimming, mini-LED and OLED all emerging and all having far superior performance to this monitor, paying $800 for an IPS monitor today is a really bad investment.
    Also, as already demonstrated in this video, almost nobody needs a 4K monitor at 27-28". Aside from most plebs not being able to discern between 2K and 4K, what is the point of having a monitor that can refresh at 144hz if the worlds most powerful GPU's can't run games at those frame rates.
    Save your money and wait for better monitor tech to drop in price and when GPU's are actually 4K 120hz ready.
