- Getting excited about gaming monitors isn't easy these days. But the TUF VG27AQ has a unique feature that might make it the best budget gaming monitor so far. Its called ELMB-SYNC and it allows you to enable G-SYNC or FreeSync alongside motion blur reduction (ULMB and ELMB). This really is a game changer so let's check out this feature and how it works with G-SYNC.

@@zahidurrahman6624 I bought LG 27GL850, and I'm absolutely happy with it! The colors are great (Maybe not suitable for professional work, but still)! If you don't need ELMB, LG is the way to go in my opinion.
Good to hear. I wouldn't regret anything. I've been geeking out on this Asus TUF VG27AQ and I have to say the the feature in discussion is not a huge deal. I've already noticed ELMB w/gsync affecting different moving objects differently. So, it slightly solves one optical illusion, while possibly making other random optical illusions.
It's always gonna be like that, just get the best one that makes the most sense to your use case and resources. Otherwise, your just never going to have anything new and will likely regret it later.

I remember reading about this monitor when it was first announced, and instantly, I wanted it. So, fast forward a few months, and I find myself at microcenter, buying all the parts needed for my first build. I get to the monitor, and the guys are showing me all of my options, and I wanted g-sync at 1440p, but the options were a bit expensive. Instead of a higher frame rate you could have just bumped the shutter speed accordingly, which is double the shutter speed of a frame rate that you aim for. Should give you correct results. Less light, but it should still be enough, especially for a screen.

I have this, the only negatives I can say about it is, a fair bit of backlight bleed in the bottom corners. If you're not in a dark room though this isn't so noticeable.
Also the fact it comes locked to 59hz out of the box, I tried running some games on the new PC (i7 9700 & RTX2070 Super) and was freaking out that it was jerky, freezing for seconds at a time when i was sure gsync was on and I thought I'd wasted my money buying the new PC and monitor. Great monitor otherwise.

I changed one of these for an lg ultragear and they are both really good.
ELMB sounds like a dream to me: there's a few games where I love capping my framerate at 140 on my 144hz monitor and enable Freesync (I love consistent frame delivery and frametimes and despite my games running at around 180 average, the competitive ones, I choose freesync without extra input lag over unlimited fps and less consistent image during fast turns) but I lose out on my motion blur reduction option, which is pretty decent on my panel. However... from what I've read ELMB still is very prone to flickering in brightness and things like that, whereas my own normal MBR is completely consistent so the flickering isn't visible without a slowmo camera. However... my panel has the issue where MBR is very, very bright instead of more dim than the standard setting. It's Samsung's version which works slightly differently, but to the same visual effect as normal ELMB/ULMB/Lightboost.
I personally think that it is always a scam, when companies list a bunch of features for a monitor, but half of them can't be used simultaneously, and they are not clearing it up right on the box for example.
This monitor can use elmb and do 165 hz at the same time. I own this monitor and its great.
@@trevorjones490 it doesnt do 165 hz. it does 155 hz.
I own the monitor. The box is incorrect. It is overclockable to 165. There is no option to do 155.
@@Roy.story.4 Incorrect. This is old information. The early development version did 155hz, but the final version does 165hz. A lot of websites and stores have still listed it as 155hz, but that is incorrect.
Whatever refresh rate it can achieve when playing mmo games at ultra 1440p with a 2070 super (rdr2) averaging about 60fps this monitors response rimes suck. For upcoming demanding games the 2070 super will start to show it 60fps at most games at 1440p. This monitor sucks at 60fps becuase of its overshoot
Edit: the response times at od 0 and od 20 aren't bad at all in mmos. This monitor is actually good
Seems like great monitor based on this review. Im looking at buying VG27BQ, that is TN version of this. I guess that TN version could be even better in motion because faster response times.

I wish someone would feature a glossy screen
7:13 I'm confused at this part. You said you CAN'T operate it between 60 and 165 fps?
laaannder there’s a limit to how low the frame rate can dip while maintaining adaptive sync
U can operate it between 60 to 165. Elmb at higher 120+ refreshrates. If u play fps games at 30fps well u would this monitor sucks
bought this for myself for Christmas...its awsome
Me too lol
About the micro stutter: just turn to full screen mode instead of borderless window, you can eliminate the micro stuttering. Because in borderless window mode, the GPU has to copy frame buffer to another frame buffer that's bound to the game's window before showing it. That copying could be delayed there's other stuff utilizing GPU at the same time. Just turn to full screen mode, the copying is not needed, thus eliminating the micro stuttering.
Interesting is this for ever monitor? I never knew this. I ussualy go borderless but i never really knew the difference. What is the advantages of going borderless n e way?

Finally a good video about ghosting. Thanks man.
I have been using the 32 inch model VG32VQ for a few weeks now:
Yes, details look a bit charper when ELMB sync & gsync is enabled but:
I sometimes notice the backlight strobing, not very often but every once in a while there's some heavy flickering going on when ELMB is enabled, this only happens for a few seconds, most oft the time only a few frames, but it happens. Second, the panel will get significantly darker, if I had to guess 100% ELMB sync brightness is about 50 percent of the actual display brightnes capabilities. HDR in games and movies is trash, dont't touch that.
Overall I am very happy with the monitor, the 32 inch model comes with a VA panel which makes watching 4k movies on the 1440p screen a great experience even when sitting closer to it, the curve really helps. I still don't know what to think about ELMB sync and if this feature is worth the 500USD pricetag, especially when there are other alternatives like from LG which also can run gsync at that framerate, lack the ELMB sync option but have a significantly lower price.
Is it a great monitor? Yes. Is ELMB sync worth it? That depends on you, but I can say that GSYNC has way more impact in terms of my gaming experience in comparison to ELMB sync. I have it turned on most of the time, sometimes when I do notice flickering I turn it off. A weird thing I have noticed that if you switch between ELMB/Gsync on/off sometimes my colours get messed up and I have to urn the monitor off and on to get my blues back...
I'm concerned about that flicker. Funny thing is the brightness decrease is actually a pro for me, my eyes are sensitive to the light and I always have my laptop display brightness at or below half. I am considering the VA panel because I want deep blacks for games like dark souls or destiny 2. Do you know if the VA panel is gsync compatible? I honestly want a really sharp and dark image in general, I hate HDR anything since it's too bright for my eyes :( let me know what you think because I'm considering getting this or paying double for an LG panel with better pixel response rate to compensate for lack of black image insertion
@@eddi3x3 yes, Gsync works perfectly fine with the VA panel on the 32 inch model
@@freaky2xd I'm so happy to hear that! I'm considering getting this panel :) does the image sharpening filter work in Nvidia control panel? I believe there should also be an option to scale up images using the GPU to scale and applying the filter, is that option there?
My monitor supports ULMB, which is basically the same thing. And I can notice the strobing even at 144hz, and after half hour of gaming it starts hurting my eyes badly. So yeah, nice tech but no thank you.
has some flickering too for apps that runs at lower refresh rate. I have solved it by having Hotkey Resolution changer so I can set my refresh rate easily for different use case.
Dota 2 and the witcher as well as nzxt cam app at 165Hz flickers but solved in 144hz. Most apps are fine at 144hz, you can stay at 144hz if you'd like
I want a comparison between this and the new lg 27 nano ips monitor.
Both are great and have its pro & con
I've had this monitor now for a few days and I love it. I do not love the ELMB sync. I seem to be sensitive to the dimming/flickering it causes. It's very minor but I can't handle it. I turn it off and G-sync off and turn tracefree on and up to 60 when I'm doing high refresh rate gaming. If I'm playing RDR2, I like to turn g-sync back on. I would never use ELMB sync I don't think. I recommend 2 to 3 presets saved on this monitor for optimal settings in different types of games. 2070super + 3800x in my gaming PC. In conclusion, I would buy this monitor again. There isn't anything really better at this price in my area. I payed 579.99 CDN which is not a great deal but I wanted a new monitor right away and they had it in stock.
I'm a new subscriber and I really like your content and reviews. Both people

ULMB and ELMB are meaningful *only* when your eyes move or you record monitor with *a moving camera*. If camera is static (e.g. attached on tripod) or you stare at the crosshair without moving your eyes, ULMB and ELMB only introduce flicker without any benefit.
For example, sniping in CS GO and tracking the target with mouse, as long as the target stays under the crosshair, there's no benefit for using ULMB or ELMB because you constantly look at the center. However, in close combat situations where the target is moving across the screen faster than you are able to track with mouse, then the difference gets more important. Similarly, in driving simulators, the difference is most important if you look at different locations on display surface while the screen animates. It's those cases where black frame insertion actually reduces the visible blur.

Next batch of monitors will have AKOVOWEKOD SYNC and RMWOFJKQ SYNC on them.
Hello, I like two monitors (tuf gaming vg27aq) and (gigabyte g27q). Color quality and low backlight bleeding are important to me. Which one do you think is better?
Casual flex with that EOS R. Gorgeous cam.
"You'll need a powerful GPU because ELMB and adaptive sync cannot be used between 60 and 165 frames per second"
That's a really confusing slip of the tongue. If true this monitor is only good for awful GPUs haha.
This ''HOLY GRAIL'' monitor has a dead pixel after a few hours of use and that's my second monitor GREAT JOB ASUS think im gonna go with aoc 24g2u instead next time
@Vishnu Kalluri ASUS QC is fkn garbage on their monitors.
I doubt I'll buy another one either, Had both 1440p ROG Swifts the TN 144hz and the IPS 165hz. TN had to have G sync module replaced, IPS developed blue line straight after warranty expired. Sent in to get it checked out, Technician says panel is stuffed and will cost $100 less than buying a new one, He said it's not worth repairing.
i had that aoc 2 times and bouth times it come with dead pixels and color bleed
@@vilkas6571 Well good to know that apparently ips gaming monitors qc is still in the gutter.
@@ShaneMcGrath. Could't agree more only 1 asus monitor i have ever bought didn't had any issues. I guess its like a more of a gambling then actual getting what you pay for...
would the 32" have the same recommendation from you? Thank you for the instructive video!
Dont get the 32” unless youre going to use the whole 32”. If its just for gaming, 27” gives the best quality at 1440p.
Great review. Thanks.
