Once again, great video! When I go into the woods for terrarium decor, I do a triple cleaning process. Firstly, (if I can) I soak it in a bleach solution. The bleach solution I make is 1/8 teaspoon bleach to ever 8 oz of water. I let the items soak for a few hours. Then I scrub the item with a sponge and hot soapy water then I rinse the item off in cool water. Next, I boil the item for at least 20 minutes and after that, I once again I scrub the item and rinse it off. Lastly, I bake the item in the oven at 200 degrees F (93 C) for about two hours. Once it is done baking, I scrub and rinse the item and let it air dry. This process ensures to get rid of all dirt and other contaminates (like parasites) as well as any potential parasite eggs. If the item is wood (like bark) I skip the soaking stage and the boiling stage and just bake it for 3 hours at 200 degrees F. It saves a lot of money because the decor at the pet store is ridiculously high priced! Plus it makes my terrariums unique :). Thanks for the awesome content! Keep it up!
Hi! Thank you so much! This was a really good information and very usable for everyone who reads it! Do you mind me using your information in one of my next videos? :-)
I-am-snek is a good Tumblr blog for ball pythons, and I can't find a ball python set up they had linked to, but the point was they need long space (as if to stretch out) and plenty of hiding spots, and decorations. I'm sure you can find the post if you look hard enough
Just to let you know they soak to hydrate or help with shed or get mites off not just to drink but when they soak they also drink at the same time I believe but water helps with a lot of things but nice BEL I want a male so bad and I'm subscriber #604 👍
Daniel Linehan Hi Daniel! Thank you so much, glad you enjoy the channel! It's true that soaking is a sign for bloodmites! But I have never experienced any of my ballpythons soaking during shed :-)
Hiya. Love your videos. Just one small point... If you collect your own wood, putting it in the freezer will absolutely not do anything for sterilisation; bugs and bacteria will just go into stasis, they will not die. As soon as it warms up, they wake up. Live your videos... One of my 'go to's' before I bought my BP. Peace and love. 🤘
I've got a young BP in a 20 gallon but I'm adopting one that's about 2 years old and I found a used 55 gallon (big I know, but I'm waiting til I upgrade my other BP terrarium to get a brand new one, I'll probably go with 30 gallon tanks for both since I handle them fairly often and they have a chance to get out and slither around if they so desire. I know a lot of people say not to handle them a lot but the one I have now seems to like being out of the terrarium. When I go to put him back in he will try to slither back out before I set him down, haha.
Thank God, I have not had mites. I do keep my terrariums much more plush. Yes they do look nice but I did purchase for a bit bigger than they are. All my plants are plastic (so I can use the water bleach solution). I also have 3 hides in each one. I have talked to big breeders and they say this is the way to do it if you don't rack them or want to have several terrariums that you may never use again. At the same time I want to know from a person like you, that helps us if you think what I am doing is ok? I want my snakes healthy and happy. Please don't be afraid to be frank with me. All please answer but no need to be rude. The snakes I have in question are all ball pythons. I have not had ball pythons in my reptile collection in a long time.
great vid !! i absolutely adore your snakes and their homes : ) what are your thoughts on having live plants in the terrariums? I have quite a few succulents in my apartment but I was wondering if that planting them in there would set the humidity of the tank out of whack. would love to hear your opinion !
I'm curious. Using newspaper for the substrate, aren't you concerned that it may get too hot with one of those stick-on terrarium heaters? I use one, too, but I have about 2 inches of repti-bark and three smooth stones in the warm-side hide. Temp inside the hide stays at 91 degrees F. I also do not use a basking lamp.
It's funny because I use a stick on heating mat too but my bp terrarium only gets to 80 on both sides so I'm going to add a 50w nighttime heat lamp on the hot side.
Hi Ava, I used something called "Hemixcide" and just mixed it with the soil. I've done a video on bloodmites that might help you ua-cam.com/video/gZnJgv0g3KY/v-deo.html Best, Josser
Hi Your awesome...tyvm Im going to get my first snake..and have aspen bedding ..have you ever had the bedding have mites? I have a 40 gallon bredder tank and a tall terrarium 36 high...and wanted to put live plants in to raise humidity as my room is dry ...
My daughter has taken in a 6ft Boa who is very placid and friendly. We have a large tank for the snake and is looked after really well BUT have you any recommendations on the heat required. There is currently 2 lamps in the 7ft tank and temperature is around 80, is this right as if we run one lamp overnight the temperature drops to about 60 but she then feels cold. Any tips would be very much appreciated. It seems the costly part of keeping snakes is energy bills rather than food or bedding.
I love your videos I just got my first ball python she is a lesser enchi she was fed mice her first 9 months I'm trying to switch her to rats but she will not touch it I feed frozen not live she was never fed live any advice u can give to help?
Hi josser where are you from? And my milksnake eats approx.every 4 days but doest seem to poop much he loves to Burrow could he be pooping under his bedding?
When I bought my ball python yesterday they said that a light was mandatory. I also told him that I didn't think so. He also told me that ball pythons can only eat live, frozen won't do it. I can tell he really didn't know what he was doing. 😒
A good trick is to move your water bowl to the hot side so that the water evaporates into the enclosure faster. Also, the enclosure can really affect your humidity. Terrariums are especially hard to keep the humidity up in.
Karl S. I use Forest Floor bedding and I used Frog moss in the back corners of the tank, and I pour water on the moss every other day. I also misted the cage and bedding once a day, and I put a towel on the top of the cage to keep humidity in. Also I have a pretty big water bowl
Hi! First of all thank you so much for great videos, i learn alot from them. I know this an old video but i hope you, or someone else that have the knowledge, can answer me. The glassdoors in the terrarium doesnt look nice in my sons snakes terrarium from spraying water for humidity. What to use to clean it? I feel that i need something that can clean off lime (dunno if its the right word, swedish is my first language, kalk) . But that is usually kinda poisness and smell really strong. I dont want the snake to be sick from the smell. What do i use? i hope you understand what i mean.
I heard a mix of cleaning vinegar and some water can help. Put 50% cleaning vinegar and 50% water in a spray bottle, spray the glass and let it sit for couple of minutes, then wipe it down. (Make sure to remove your animal from the terrarium during this process)
Wesley Shadoan yes they can live in a 40g. I know I personally go along with many owners and would recommend something maybe a little bigger but 40 Gallon is fine
Frostbite0w0 recommended is 40 gal or bigger for adult ball pythons and 20 gal or bigger for younger ball pythons. You don't want it too big, and you don't want it too small.
Are bioactive houses for sneks safe and good? :c And will the parasites in it affect me when handling snek?? And will the parasites which are little organisms in it hurt the snek? o-o I wanna be safer than sorry to bloodmites etc..
Corn Starch bioactive is more for other snakes but the tiny insects won't do any harm , springtails and isopods are not paracites so they won't do harm where as mites are like fleas and suck the snakes blood and are painful
Go to the bio dude on google, he has bundles for bioactive tanks for ball pythons. I think bioactive tanks are actually better for ball pythons than any other setup. It helps retain humidity and the isopods and springtails actually help prevent blood mites from surviving in your tank. And your snake will enjoy the natural environment. Hope this helps!

Ball Python's are the cutest snakes and a firm favourite of mine.

You are one of my favorite you-tubers! Awesome vid!
You can put wood from the wild in the oven for like an hour at 200 degrees
I've got a young BP in a 20 gallon but I'm adopting one that's about 2 years old and I found a used 55 gallon (big I know, but I'm waiting til I upgrade my other BP terrarium to get a brand new one, I'll probably go with 30 gallon tanks for both since I handle them fairly often and they have a chance to get out and slither around if they so desire.

MAKE A SHOWING ALL MY PETS (and terrarium)
I don't have snakes but I still find myself watching it

Not at all, I place the heating mat underneath the terrarium :-)
Oh...Mine has an adhesive surface, and I stuck it to the bottom pane of glass in Lou's terrarium.
Use I thermostat to adjust the heat mat
It's funny because I use a stick on heating mat too but my bp terrarium only gets to 80 on both sides so I'm going to add a 50w nighttime heat lamp on the hot side.
what about being able to tell the temperature and humidity ;)
Aww Noel's so cute Lil face n gorgeous..love watching set up videos..how did you get rid of the blood mites?just wondering 🤔
Hi Ava,

Where did you get that background (or cork board) in Noel's tank at 3:31? Great video btw
I got this one at a reptile expo, but I know you can get them at pet shops too :-)
Jossers Jungle thanks!!
Noel is the man
I just got a ball python named Scoobie
I know this videos old, but how do ball pythons get mites?? Great video by the way!!👍

such a monday..... LOL
Hi josser where are you from? And my milksnake eats approx.every 4 days but doest seem to poop much he loves to Burrow could he be pooping under his bedding?
Is the heatmat underneath or inside the Terrarium?
Ur snakes r cute
how much did the treatment cost?
How do blood mites get to snakes? I’m trying to make sure I don’t fall into that awfulness.
When I bought my ball python yesterday they said that a light was mandatory. I also told him that I didn't think so. He also told me that ball pythons can only eat live, frozen won't do it. I can tell he really didn't know what he was doing. 😒
Eva Ramirez it’s too bad you bought from them. If I saw someone that uneducated I wouldn’t have supported them
How do you keep your bp humidity up? I bought a fogger but I'd like to be able to not have to use it
Karl S. I recommend a bigger water bowl and moss like substraight. Or you can of course mist your tank
If you have a screen top tank you can put towels on the top
A good trick is to move your water bowl to the hot side so that the water evaporates into the enclosure faster.
Also, the enclosure can really affect your humidity. Terrariums are especially hard to keep the humidity up in.

How do you heat the tank
Heat mat :-)
Jossers Jungle the stick on the bottom type? What thermostat is good to control the heat.
AO Drones jumpstart ones are good
What is the background made of in Noel’s tank?

well i don’t know how to clean such stains, i have heard that using distilled water doesn’t leave any water spots and stains on the glass!
I heard a mix of cleaning vinegar and some water can help. Put 50% cleaning vinegar and 50% water in a spray bottle, spray the glass and let it sit for couple of minutes, then wipe it down. (Make sure to remove your animal from the terrarium during this process)
You should do a reptile room tour
Can a ball python adult live in a 18x36x18 40 gallon terrarium
Wesley Shadoan yes they can live in a 40g. I know I personally go along with many owners and would recommend something maybe a little bigger but 40 Gallon is fine
How big is that terrarium?
You are so cute when you curse miss josser
What’s blood mites
When you pick it up from nature
What size is noels terrarium?
How big of a tank do they need? 20 gal? 50 gal?
Frostbite0w0 recommended is 40 gal or bigger for adult ball pythons and 20 gal or bigger for younger ball pythons.
You don't want it too big, and you don't want it too small.
Omg
The first time you buy a ball python how you know its a boy or girl ?? Without checking ...
Ask. It's virtually impossible to tell without probing
Are bioactive houses for sneks safe and good? :c And will the parasites in it affect me when handling snek?? And will the parasites which are little organisms in it hurt the snek? o-o I wanna be safer than sorry to bloodmites etc..
