- Hey everyone, welcome to the Flip It & Restore It family or welcome back if you're returning!
In this week's video, I will be painting and decoupaging this mid-century Harris Lebus chest of drawers. The fabric we used is a Nigerian Ankara fabric, with a beautiful batik print. I absolutely love how it turned out, and it definitely speaks to my Zimbabwean heritage. If you want to see how we created this beautiful chest of drawers and learn how to decoupage fabric to furniture, then please keep watching!
"Brenda in this episode of Piplinary Storage as she transforms a mid-century Harris leaves chest of drawers using furniture painting and decoupage techniques. Using Nigerian Ankara fabric with a stunning batik print, Brenda infuses her Zimbabwean heritage into this restoration project. Follow along as she shares insights on the history of Liebus furniture and demonstrates step-by-step instructions for cleaning, painting, and decoupaging, resulting in a beautifully revitalized piece. Don't miss out on this inspiring journey of furniture restoration and creativity!"

I’ve worked with fabric and decoupage but never on furniture. This came out so lovely. Your eye for the details was perfect! ❤

Nice work 🙌🏻
Just beautiful ❤ thanks for mentioning that school pva glue wasn't strong enough - a very good point for me. I'd have used it. Thanks from a beginner
No I’m sure it was alien saliva that stuck sigourney weaver to the ceiling in debilitation, not school boys with a pritt-stick.
How many pieces of furniture have been flipped this month so far? Still, useful to put a photo of your mum in a frame first, so you don’t look in the wrong direction.
Absolutely brilliant. Loved your demo!

Thanks 💯
Could you do a separate video for the paint gun please? Did I hear right and you said you got it in the UK?
I was wondering have you tried the method of putting two coats of Mod Podge and then ironing on your fabric? It seemed like you struggled with it a little.
No, I haven’t but I’m not entirely sure it would work with fabric? Have you tried that method using fabric? Would be great to know if you’ve had success with it 😊👍
I like the material decoupage but I do prefer to paint with a brush, I just feel I get different ideas that way and I can change things as I go on, I blend a lot so spray painting doesn’t go with my style but the drawers look great and I love material so if I came across any I really like I’m definitely going to try this.
That’s awesome 🤩 Have you thought about using fabric as a background and then painting over top? That might be quite interesting?! 🥰🥰
Beautiful, but may I ask why you painted the drawers if you were going to decoupage them? Oops, asked this b4 your explanation, lol.
With starch and water mixed, you can put fabric on walls too.
I've never tried this method? Have you and was it successful? 😊😊
Please do a video on the paint sprayer
Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll try and get it done soon 😊👍
You are wicked at your craft ...
Thank you, that’s very kind of you! 🥰🙏
Thank you for this video! I was wondering, have you ever tried decoupage with a fabric that has embroidery on it? I've never used mod podge so have no idea if it's even possible.
You're welcome 🥰 I haven't used embroidered fabric but I believe it should still work - you may just need to apply a more generous layer of your PVA glue so it soaks through thoroughly. That's all that Mod Podge is - a PVA glue. Just make sure to use a strong PVA glue, not something like craft glue 😊👍
@@phoenixfurniturestudioThank you so much for replying! We're planing on a snazzy cabinet, should turn out jazzy =D
@@MappingAmy ooo, sounds fab! Send me pics on Insta once you’re done! 😍😊👌
Sooooo beautiful! ❤
I was wondering the reason for two coats on the drawers when its being covered by the thick fabric anyway? Hi from the KZN Midlands
Hi 👋☺️ No particular reason other than it gives a nice surface to work on with the fabric and a solid base colour underneath the fabric so that it gives a uniform look to the finish ☺️👍
What happens if the fabric wrinkles?
Do you mean once it’s dried? I haven’t found that it’s wrinkled once it’s dried - as long as you lay it flat and press it down into the mod Podge it should be fine 😊👍
Really enjoyed the finished product in your demo! It was cringy, annoying to try to hear what you were saying, with the 70’s porn music competing and overtaking your voice. I had to keep adjusting the volume and I probably only heard 1/2 of what you said. Maybe you could offer an option to view, with and without background sound. Or at least use a lower pitch. I am being completely honest and want to also disclose that I have ADHD and a sensory processing disorder with sound. I’m sorry if I offend or hurt anyone’s feelings. It’s not my intent. I rarely comment with anything that could be perceived as negative, which this could, but I stated it with the hopes you could recognize the opportunities and choices discovered from the info and grow from it in some way. Peace!
