  • Today's video has tons of furniture flips that we either got for free off of craigslist, were donated to our cause, or were bought from goodwill and Facebook Marketplace. We gave them all a cohesive look with easy makeovers that anyone could do. Do you have a home to furnish on a super tight budget?
Do you want to help young adults aging out of foster care? Contact your local foster care agencies and let them know you'd like to help. If you are in Arizona, I recommend contacting Arizona Children's Association to find out how you can help.

I kept over 30 foster children and would never have dreamed of not helping them when they became adults! I can’t imagine this problem! My kids were always given a bank account to save for this which we matched! And they were taught how to do what you do! We thrifted and kept a space for saving things. Their gifts from Dad were usually tools! I thought most foster parents kept fostering after adulthood! I’ll have to check in my area to find out what is done about this!

You are so right. I gave away an old car to someone who needed transportation to get to work..rusty but it ran good. They were so grateful. They had 3 little kids and had to walk to the grocery store. Show love and kindness and it will return to you.

I’m on a few local Facebook groups where we get things together for people moving inIo their first place. Everyone needs a little leg up occasionally ( divorce, abuse, leaving care system) and I find those youngsters go on to be the most generous donators as they get on their feet.

@@peekaboots01 get onto local Facebook groups and put some ISO out- honestly you will be amazed. I just gave a 39 inch smart tv to a family- nothing wrong but I was upgraded as a gift and have no room for another TV. I’ve given away settees, washer, fridge freezer, grills, duvets, a mattress- I’ve also been gifted a lovely tub chair, carpet, clothes rail and other bits for my daughters disability flat I created in my house for her last year. Help is out there! When you are more comfortable, you can pay it forward.

It would be so interesting to hear more stories from people that age out of foster care. What was the experience like, what were your before experiences, what brought it all about and what all that has meant for you. are you feeling set up for the future, do you have a means to support yourself? What did you miss out on having or experiencing in life and when it comes to being prepared to support yourself?
I mean, I assume someone didn't take you under their wing or create a home for you. That may not have been your experience at all.
I'm just brainstorming, I think this is one of the most important subjects, in the way of what we are doing as a society and(nows the time to) how we are righting wrongs of society and creating a future we all can feel excited about.

Great job!!! One tip for future projects is when cleaning upholstery instead of the pressure washer, spray on the cleaner, and use a soft to medium bristle brush on the dirty areas, then use an extractor or wet vac to suck out the liquid and dirt. You could have also taken seat cushions out of the casing, and either clean like that, or depending on the fabric put in the washer on the delicate cycle and pull back into shape at the end of the wash.

As a former foster child who also ‘aged out’ of foster care, Id like to thank you so much for what you do!
I’m now 41 with 2 children and pursuing my law degree. (My 2nd child has a kidney condition, so I put my degree on hold for a LONG time! But he’s doing great now ☺️. Then I became chronically I’ll a few years ago, related to PTSD, but it caused a physical condition, my body couldn’t cope with the emotional stress, so I had to put my law degree on hold for a long time again (I did start it but my health would not allow 🤦🏻‍♀️), I’m about to start again this year 😝 so excited!))
I buy toiletries throughout the year, and then have a few boxes than I can spilt up between some homeless people, (a small travel toiletry bag each) and the rest goes to a local homeless shelter and a charity that helps the older foster care children that are about to leave foster care, or are in their first own place.
It’s just a little, I didn’t have any help whatsoever, so I know what’s needed. It’s not always about physical items, but necessities sure do go a long way! Xo

Hi! Just found your channel! Thanks for what you do. It gave me a great idea and a possible solution for those of us on the opposite end of adult life. I’m 64, single, recently found myself “the last leaf on the family tree” so far as day to day life. Covid resulted in massive upheaval for me, lost my job, my housing, most of my belongings, and my health. Those out of foster care are the new leaves, just sprouting. We could both use support, socially, morally, materially, or just someone to call us up and say hello. I live in a gated senior community, having inherited my parents’ house. I’m going to contact the county services to see if we seniors, most of us single, can be matched up with young people coming off of foster care.
P.S. I love what you did with the couch!

@@DesertDIY we all love the silver, because you did this for Her, for the young girl. Who cares about what's "in fashion" right now, we love that you care about what SHE liked. It gives so much dignity to her, ,instead of just chucking random old furniture at her, you went all the way and saw her as a whole person. The cohesive color scheme makes it all look designer and upscale. Bless you and thank you for all the good work you do

Thank you so much for your awesome efforts! I just really needed to see this today. There are so many bad things happening around us .. it's great to see people truly helping other people. Not just giving money, but time, thought and effort. I wish you and your beautiful family all of the best, as well as to the young mom that you've helped with this project. Take care.

I love what you're doing! I get how meaningful it is and I get how the kind of work you do will make a huge difference. I help girls when they age out of Ranfurly Home here in The Bahamas. I raised the money to build a cottage in my back yard after having them living in our home. Its called Laurel House, in Nassau. Laurel House is on Facebook. Sadly the most frustrating thing knowing Social Services is very slow in helping the stateless and undocumented. Please keep up the amazing work.

I wasn’t in foster care but found myself in need and having to furnish a home for me and two kids without money. I was given beds, couches, tv and dining set and it was as though I was given a pot of gold. Being able to take the kids in there and having it feel like a proper home was like a dream. It really helped make it a home and took a lot of the stress of the time away.
