Canon 5D all the way. The picture just looks way more professional. The A7 saturation and colors aren’t nearly as nice. I owned the A7ii and sold it for the 5D Mark ii and it’s a far better camera, even being as old as it is. There’s just something about the image that’s magical. Warm, detailed and natural. Brilliant camera.
@@rilwanilukman488 The mirrorless camera gives me a lot of creativity impulse. Much more than the reflex. But... it depends what I want to do. A nice landscape with tripod, infinity focus, I would use the reflex... but for macro, manual focusing shots, portraits, bokeh etc.. much better the mirrorless. With the sony I can think only to the scene, with the reflex I have to think to exposure, technique, etc. I love all the cameras.

Gosh! Totally agree with that. The 5D Mk ii gives so much more character to the pictures. A good test is to show pictures straight from the camera to novice people in photography. Most of the time, they will give very positive comments.
I took my son's 5d mII when he bought a Fuji XT-4 kit. I really like it a lot. Wonderful colours and look to the images. I have the 50mm 1.8 and the 40mm 2.8. I'll add the 85mm 1.8 next. It's really a wonderful, comfortable camera to work with.
I have both these cameras and I love both. Like you, I prefer shooting with the Canon. Also, I can tell you why I love the Canon more in one simple expression - the Canon EF 85mm f1.8! Anyone who has shot a 5D mounted with that lens knows what I'm talking about. Magic happens. That said, I mainly use my A7 mounted with my extensive range of Legacy glass, because the peak-focussing system in the Sony is superb.
Hey Star man, how does the a7 do in dark conditions? in this video he said the sony out performed the Mark2 . but in prior videos i had seen the Mark2 smash the a7 ua-cam.com/video/13x4gF1RPBQ/v-deo.html
Agreed. Using it with the Canon 6D. After switching from a Rebel T7i, I'm just blown away by the quality of images from a 10 year old camera. And yes, the Canon EF 85mm 1.8 is magic - especially for a different take on street photography.
I will take the Canon any day of the week, I like the color, clarity, and ease of buttons to use quick and easy, I still have my 5D mark II and use it from time to time. I have a Sony but don't use it a lot. Its like every camera has its own color ,like Nikon color seems to be a bit light ,maybe it is me but I have a canon R 5 and its great but not as easy as the old Canon DSLR cameras 5R has great color, just takes a while to get use to it...;)...
It's 2022 and I still have my 5dii that I purchased new 13 years ago. I've since switched to Sony with the Rii and Riii but the 5dii still sees use. Sold my 5div but couldn't bring myself to sell the 5dii. My wife uses it as my second camera hand at events and weddings.
Hello Pablo... I posted this comment in another video, but think it will be of value here as well. It was June 2020 and I bought a 2nd hand 5D Mark2, I am exceptionally happy with my 2nd hand 5DMK2 which I got like brand new with only 7k clicks on the body... Today's 2nd hand prices are great around £500 only for a body in excellent condition. The reason I went for a 5Dii is because I bought 2x 6D which BOTH failed me. Since it was still in warranty so I could have got a 3rd 6D instead, but having such bad a experience I decided to go for something heavily used/abused by pro-photographers instead at a similar 2nd hand price. The 5Dii is good enough for 95% of my needs, I now used the 5Dii over a few weeks in various conditions such as low-light /sun /rain /indoors /outdoors etc and this 5Dii is still a VERY capable camera. Since I'm mainly a stills-image shooter who shot for around 25 years (pre-digital as well) I have very little interest in video, so I'm looking forward to use it for many years to come and even use it for some paid jobs. I'm not shooting sports and don't need exceptional crazy frame rates. Auto focus is good enough if you use the center spot only and I also find RAW files up to ISO 3200 to be good enough to sell to wedding clients if you use good lenses (might need a SLIGHT noise reduction in Lightroom on a few occasions). Normally its only photographers who pixel-peep, clients are more focused on moments and emotions instead of technicality. I have no regrets..... Going forward if I break something, or if my gear is stolen, then I will get the 5Dii again since I am a stills shooter only
@@card-joker5301 I can imagine your feeling after reading this :D, I'm in a bit of a pickle myself atm, Canon 6d has been my dream camera for a long time, I was considering Sony A7 for budget reason, and now I'm even more confused by this Testimony, I'd like to hear from you thou
Hello Rilwani, i have no problems with my Canon 6d. I like it very much and in some points the 6d is better than a 5d II (real Auto Iso for example) The Wifi is usefull and i use it much more than i thought i would :) focus peaking can be added by Magic-Lantern while using the Live-View all my EF Lenses works fine. there are some things i dont like : only the one Cross-AF-Point is sometimes a little bit hard to use for f1.4. and i would love to have a audio Jack for monitoring while Filming
Nice video ! I have both because I love my Canon and won't let it go but I also wanted a mirrorless because I love old legacy lenses - so I bought an A7 which was a bit beaten up but worked perfectly. Total cost of both cameras was £700.
In all the images the Sony had a lot more green tint and looked like the saturation and contrast had been boosted more by the in camera processing. The Canon has slightly more magenta bias to the tint (but not as far off neutral as the Sony is) and the colors and contrast aren't as pumped. The color and tone of the Canon is more pleasing to the eye. The Sony has slightly more dynamic range, but it took me to halfway through the samples to determine that. I'd also want to see what the noise looks like in the shadows before giving it too much credit but assuming it's good then yeah, dynamic range goes to the Sony, the rest goes to the Canon. I'd go with the Canon if I never intended to switch to mirrorless as I prefer the look, plus the lens collection is extensive and cheap now that ppl are switching to mirrorless. But I'd go with the Sony if I wanted to build up a modern collection of lenses and then switch to a newer body later to use them with. It's definitely nice to have a lighter camera, but a smaller size can be a both a good thing for transport, but a bad thing in use. Ergonomics probably go to Canon here but I've always preferred Nikon in that regard, especially the control layout. Why Canon can't seem to find a good place for the power switch is beyond me, and the 5D MK ii is particularly bad in that regard...
I am not sure if you shot raw or not since you can recover a lot of information from the Canon raw file. One must also remember that the Sony has nearly 5 years of extra sensor development over the MKii. My reservation about Sony ( I myself am a Nikon man although I do have a MKii ) is that I do not see them as a camera/optical manufacturer. They are a giant multinational with their hands in everything and their cameras were based on Minolta which they acquired in 2006 when they started to get seriously into the camera business. Some of their early efforts were nothing short of comical.
Sony all the way.. color science is a preference, you can change the color on camera or on post.. small grip can be corrected by buying L shaped bracket for 5 bucks or battery grip..
As along time 5D2 user looking to switch to mirrorless, I really enjoyed this vid. Didn't know about MPB so I'm going to look at them for my replacement camera. Possibly an EOS M50 for the flippy screen and dual pixel AF.

Good video, just discovered it. I recently picked up a Canon 5D2 to wet my feet in full frame photography. I actually did seriously consider the Sony A7, as it's a nice camera too, but as someone who has been shooting for a while with a Canon 70D, I'm already heavily invested in full frame EF lenses, where with the Sony, I'd have to buy lenses as well. I also tend to prefer optical viewfinders, though I do own an Olympus M4/3 camera for when I want to travel light so I do get the advantages of electric viewfinders and why some prefer them.
With magic lantern on the Canon it would perhaps give it the edge over the Sony as it opens up 14 bit raw video with lots of extra features including ‘focus peaking’. Ps great to see you in Brighton I’m a local (Portslade) just about to receive 5d mark 2🙂
