Remember no survivor, Fire lord Sozin and fire nation army invades Air temple, Sozin kills Gyatso.
With Katara and Sokka, Aang found Gyatso corpse after 100 years.

Its crazy when you realize both Sozin and Gyatso shared a mutual friendship with Roku and here they are with one murdering the other.
When Roku learned airbending, Gyatso was still a child
They were same age actually since Roku was still only 16 and gyatso looked so too
Gyatso going head to head with Sozin during the Comet is pretty gangsta
Could have a line
"Gyatso, Roku spoke well of you, say hi for me"
@@blackpowderkun no, the one we've got is much better exchange, can't have ATLA be MCU-fied.
Not as gangsta as what Gyatso did to the fire benders in ATLA. That was a perfect combo of deadly and harmonious, showing what an Airbending master was capable of and showing balance that should be maintained.
@@noahcopeland5554 I honestly believe after watching this scene, that Sozin may have killed those soldiers as collateral to guarantee the death of Gyatzo and the children by cooking up everything in that room, because he knows if he doesnt take Gyatzo that seriously he can escape with a potential avatar.
@@noahcopeland5554he fought sozin, who is already a master firebender at the height of his powers after sucking the oxygen from a squad of firebenders.
Damn, there’s at least 5 fire nation soldiers for each airbender, all powered by the comet, and they still put up a fight. Air Nation pacifism was a mercy to all other nations.
Zaheer proved how dangerous an airbender can be without the pacifistic mindsez
I hope in the new Avatar series set after Korra we get to see more aggressive air benders.
@@Halcon_Sierreno Probably, since the current Air Nation comes from people with mixed decendants (mostly Air-Earth mix). And we know how "stubborn" the Earth Kingdom people are lol. And both Kai and Opal have demonstrated less-passive actions, although they eventually have to learn to be more pacifist to adjust with Air Nomad.
@@moreandmore7962 I wonder if those airbenders will feel animosity towards fire benders.
@@RP-zl5ix
That's not fully possible. Without their spiritual ways, Airbenders canonically start to lose their bending.
I kinda like how they showed the brutal nature this fight actually was like in the cartoon, the fire benders were ruthless when it came to killing every airbender off
Well all benders are ruthless in their own ways.
- Firebenders can immolate you,
- Waterbenders can actually sink an entire fleet, bring floods, or impale you with ice, or cause your body to rot because of frostbite, OR bloodbend you and make you committing 'suicide', and btw our body is 60-70% water, so probably there's at least a waterbender that can liquify your body instantly
- Earthbenders can cause earthquakes or burying you alive and can instantly destroy an earthen structure. Also a metalbender can poison you if they have mercury, or turn your own armour against you. A psychopathic metalbender can torture you with cut wounds.
A lavabender can cause volcanic eruption wherever they are. Also like Firebenders they can burn their victims albeit in more brutal ways since a lava also contains poisonous gases.
- Airbending can remove air from your lungs, or overflow it so your lungs exploded. Also they can simply take you to sky and drop you to the ground (less brutal way tbh because you usually instantly die). Oh and if the Air Nomads were brutal enough, they can redirect a cloud using airbending from a specific region so the region will experiencing drought and eventually famine, which usually cause plague as well.
It was better than the 2010 ''The last airbender''
Despite having the comet, you can actually see how the air masters were putting a good fight and Sozin acknowledges that when he fought gyatso. His reign would've ended in failure if the air benders was able join the war.
I doubt the airbenders would've made any difference if they joined the war. The Fire Nation was ahead every other nation in terms of military power.
@@syzorst The airbenders would´ve been fundamental for the resistance as while the Fire Nation gets walled by the Earth Kingdom, the airbenders would 100% abandon their temples to go provide aid to water benders, Azulon´s campaign on the Southern pole would´ve been a failure with the air nomads around, there´s even a risk that Air nomads joined up with the water tribes and establish a fierce resistance to the firebenders.
@@syzorstthey could’ve acted as seals, an elite group of soldier’s to assassinate or gain Intel
@@syzorstair nation is in 10s of thousands or a couple hundred thousand at most, including children. However all of them are Airbender, and most highly skilled. It wouldn't be wrong to say if they linked up with earth nation army which was mostly spearman basically, with a few benders as they has least percentage of population as benders they could have turned the tide. 50thousand air benders or so could definitely turn the war or greatly benefit the earth nation. Gyatsu in the animated show has like 30 fire nation soldiers around his body, dude was a beast. Provide him with some guards and he could decimate a few hundred soldiers just with his own power each battle.
@@syzorstthey legit probably used thousands of fire nation benders during sozins comet so their 2 or 3 times more powerful to wipe out air nation. The fire nation clearly took the threat seriously. Their are multiple temples too, so this was a well planned and coordinated strike. Just wiping the temples it wouldn't surprise me if thousands of top level fire nation benders died. Without fire nation technology over the earth nation, it could been a huge setback losing so many good men.
I feel like we could low key speculate he did the forbidden air bending technique on the 2nd group of firebenders that ran in before Sozin. Cause once Sozin came in, the rest of the soldiers passed out
Sozin produced fire..
There can't be fire without air
@@lalpha6789 Firebender can produce fire from Chi and they can also heat up their body temperature to get through airbending as shown against Gyatzo´s cyclone.
@@sebas8225As Iroh once said "Firebending comes from the breath" Can't breathe if there is no air in the room.
@@loadedgloves4519 Thats the outer flame, their inner bodies have Chi and their own body temperature during the attack on northern water city zuko showcased this.
@@loadedgloves4519 there has to be at least some air in the room. or else bodies would have exploded due to vacuum. secondly, even without oxygen or insufficient oxygen, there can still be fire in the form of plasma by superheating the air around. oxygen based combustion is just one type of "fire."
gyatso dying after fighting a comet powered sozin is a decent trade off from the original where he died after fighting a bunch of fire nation soldiers
This one he was protecting the children and it makes it even sadder
@Reezy37 Honestly I prefer to believe, that in his clash with Sozin, Gyatzo was so strong in airbending, Sozin had to forsake the nearby soldiers lives and burn the entire room to a crisp to ensure Gyatzo and the children were killed, or risk them escaping him entirely.
@Reezy37
Sozin is a firelord. He is much stronger.
@@fluffyfluffs1167 Also the smartest firelord, tho one could argue Azulon is just as smart.
This time he fought the soldiers and arguably one of if not the most powerful bender on the planet juiced by the comets. Gayatso is tough ngl.
The fact that Sozin yelled out in strugle shows just how powerful Gyatso was.
The way sozin just walks through gyatso’s tornado thing is bad ass
Not just walking but looking like a pillar of fire as he does.
Not just the men. But the women and children too.
Unfortunately this is real people really have killed children and women in this same manner
The worst part is this scene, likely has Sozin amping up his flames so much he kills some of his own men to get Gyatzo and the kids dead, thats how much of a monster he is.
All part of the Butlerian Jihad. There is only one God and that is The God Emperor Leto.
Oh hardee freaking har
@@ashleyseay2871you didn’t get the Star Wars reference
Sozin has no business of being that raw entering Gyatso's cyclone.
A walking pillar of fire
The monks with no preparations, no weapons and no armor bullied half of the firenations army
And those fire bender's strength was increased 100 times by the comet.
The monks were weapons. Their all Airbender every single one. So that is an unfair statement. The Airbender were in no way weak, but seeing as this is during sozins comet it is absolutely amazing still.
A great explanation of how Gyatso killed all those fire benders and himself without all of his clothes being burned during Sozen's comet would be a combustion bender and other high ranking troops corner him in that room.
Gyatso forms an air shield around the combustion benders head just as he shoots and the force of the shockwave instantly kills the bender and all others around him. But, shielding the children too leaves Gyatso mortally wounded from the comet enhanced shockwave.
Sozin comes in after and says his lines. Then, it's implied he kills the children after Gyatso collapses.
If nothing else, the brutality exhibited here justifies the show's existence. It's a different telling of the story
It also heavily implies that the dead fire nation soldiers around Gyatzo´s corpse where killed by Sozin´s own flames, as Sozin keeps amping up his flames to corner Gyatzo he probably cooked everyone in that room then walked off, EVIL AF.
nah
Sozin channeling his inner Makarov.
“remember, no survivors” has “no russian” vibes
Actually No Russian means don’t speak Russian so Makarov could blame America for their airport attack. Here, it is straightforward that the Fire Nation attacked. This is more like Order 66 since it is a purge and a betrayal.
Pretty sure that's what they were going for.
@@Halcon_Sierreno I was thinking the same
Execute order 66.
I love how Gyatso managed to kill over 20 fire nation soldiers in the animation amped by the comet. Shows the true power of a master airbender
2:33
Sozin: You may have prevailed on another night, but not when we have the power of the comet!
2:35
Missed opportunity for Sozin to say "not when we've been gifted the powers of hell from the heavens."
Heaven and hell are Christian (Western) concepts and the show is based on Eastern culture. That line wouldn't make sense here.
@@marcosnonato heaven and hell are universal religious concepts. Both Buddhism and Hinduism label hell as "Naraka" Shintoism has "Yomi". It would have made sense but either the writers would have thought such a line either too poetic, a trigger sentence for some people, or didn't care to focus so much on Sozin since the story is about Aang and not Roku.
@@markeviouslipscomb3460everyone had different taste buddy, don't be mad that the line you wanted sozin to say didn't make it to the final cut

There is a special place in Hell for Sozin and his soldiers.
I want Sozin to revive just to make him see how his dream came to an end and how the avatar that escaped from him returned and humiliated his grandson
Bet they'd get off on that.
@@ryogahibiki7806 No way it´s happening if Sozin came back we wouldnt even know the timeline that would piss him off more lol Aang or Korra?
Sozin supposedly spent his final days regretting betraying his best friend, Avatar Roku
@@tenjenk And searching for the avatar like a paranoid fool.
There’s no way Aang would’ve survived if he stayed 😭
Well, Avatar State? If the Avatar is in great danger the Avatar spirit take control of the Avatar's body. I mean, all of Aang's Avatar State in the series was Aang being possessed, except in the end of S2 and near the end of his duel with Ozai. The rest were him being possessed. He could've saved the Air Nomads, but it's the destiny tho. One of the big advantages of Air Nomads is that all of them are benders, and it means that all the adults are Airbending master. Even with the comet, the Fire Nation didn't have it easy to annahilate them.
@@moreandmore7962unsure if he won, he still be surrounded by the cream of the crop fire benders all empowered by sozins comet. Would definitely be a heck of a fight to watch.
Gyatso's death looks like Master Thundering Rhino's death from Kung Fu Panda 2
Fr it does
The people who fought each other obviously wouldn't be the same but the Airbenders holding their own for a bit here is honestly the best portrayal we're gonna get and most likely is what happened. I could see Gyatso fighting Sozin but yeah he'd definitely lose. If the Airbenders had more people or the Fire Nations army wasn't so big I feel like the Airbenders would've won.
They would’ve had a way better chance if the fire benders didn’t have the comet 🤷🏿♂️
@@MM14-bl1me definitely
@erickck240 Oh, absolutely, during the Siege of the North Pole Iroh had to advise Zhao not to attack at night because the moon would've given the waterbenders a huge advantage. Also why Zhao was set on killing the moon spirit, they would've lost if he didn't do that.
“Remember. No Russian.”

Gyatso cold wit the stick
They really did a COD reference. "Remember, no survivors" 😂
I knew I was gonna like if not love this show after this. The original show is a masterpiece but it’s great to see the kid gloves finally come off (would love to see a Korra reboot from the same people)
Ini moment yg paling sedih di serial Avatar 😭😭😭
Remember no airbender
when the two of Roku's friend meet each other
I need to ask as it’s just something that came to mind, were there any repercussions imposed on the fire nation as a whole for the air nomads genocide placed by the other nations (Earth and Water) such as Sanctions or was that never explained in the ATLA universe?
Pretty sure they're at war already, sure... Under Zuko's rule the other nations may felt the necessity to limit the fire nation's activity outside of their territory, but if anyone's to forgive, it's the last airbender. As to prevent any potential conflict.
Sure enough, by doing so, in less than a century all four nations' reached new heights.
Sozin didnt gave a rat´s ass about them he never cared, he spent the last years of his life hunting down Aang and dying like a paranoid fool, Azulon had to deal with his mess, which is basically war with the neighbour Earth Kingdom.
Doubtful, it likely aided them as it wasnt just commiting genocide but also a major
"Dont Fuck with us" Message
This likely is one of the reason the other nations closed themselves off
I mean what sanctions could exist? He bested the southern water tribe, and was kicking the earth's ass and owned most of their coast. The north was cowering in fear. The earth nation king didn't even know of the war, he was so out of loop. You can't exactly sanction when you have nothing of value. The empire controlled all of the immediate territory that had anything of worth. Only what remained of earth nation had anything of value and they were at war.
Airbenders must be a terrible killer if they use their bending ability to take the air out from the enemies nose and lung. They could easily eliminate the aggressors.
But we know, airbenders has been toughts to use the abilities just for defence not to kill
"It's a pity our paths never crossed before, Gyatso. Roku always spoke highly of you."
You actually think Gyatso is going to win....and then Sozin comes in and you know it's a done deal.
I'm getting order 66 vibes from this scene.
Bruh sozin said gyatso would've kicked their ass if they were not powered by the comet
Just shows how powerful gyatso real was
Crazy how the whole army couldn’t kill gyatso even with the comet and sozin had to do it
Getting Order 66 vibes here!
I was thinking Night Of A Thousand Tears.
Nah, No Russian from COD
2:53-2:54 That transition XD!
i wonder whether Sozin's legacy in the Fire Nation has changed following the end of the hundred year war without all that propaganda; the one who started the war and ordered the genocide of the Air Nomads
Probably seen as an extremely smart and dangerous Hitler. Guy carried out a genocide in a single night on multiple temples, that is an impressive feat.
Despite being taken by surprise and fighting an element that can be enhanced by wind, the Airbenders put up a pretty good fight. Like Sozin said, they may have prevailed on another night. And that's why Sozin needed the comet to defeat them.
Yeah sozin acknowledged there power, took out all the air temples in one night, probably lost numerous elite benders though, without technology might been pushed back by earth nation due to air genocide.
Ya'know, i gotta ask why gyatsos robes are unburnt on his skeleton, like in the original i get its because he just removed the air in the room and offd himself and a bunch on fire benders, but here? We know thats not the case, so why tf his outfit unchared?
Gyatso death is so brutal and dark bruh, ngl
I can see why they had to wait for the comet lol
Angus from like Russia he basically killed that priest who was doing bad things
Sozin was always a coward
They Failed in The Other Side of Air Nation ,Avatar Genji :Discover the Warriors
Imagine there is no Sozin comet. They will kick firebenders ass all day. Airbenders ar fucking badass….
Gyatso could've used Void Bending tho
2:20
Gyatso sucked the oxygen out of those firebenders
Remember: No Russian.
while i like the fight scene its abit sad in how weak the firebenders are depicted, i mean aside from the whole burning body bit that sozin does none of them even bend alot of fire, likewise airbending in that situation would likely fan the flames more than snuff them out.
@Reezy37 Let's be honest most firebenders are trash in the cartoon the first season all they threw was small fire balls
@Reezy37 You're thinking of Ozai's troops when the comet came around again. That was an entirely different situation. At that point, Ozai and his troops were the psychopathic extremist byproducts of multiple generations going through 100 years of war, indoctrination by propaganda, supremacist extremism, multiple acts of mass genocide and slaughter. Sozin inherited an era of peace and prosperity accomplished by his far. His troops grew up into it and his propaganda efforts had only just taken conventional roots into his society. What came after him were generations born into it, with their society, culture and firebending doctrines getting warped by it all.
Each firelord got more extreme as they started drinking their old kool aid. Sozin aimed to bring fire nation prosperity to the rest of the world by force and died regretting his betrayal of the previous avatar. Azulon was ruthless and cruel, conquering for its own sake, expecting family to fall in line and listen to his every word and got assassinated attempting to execute his son and grandson. Ozai was straight up psychopathic and barely saw anyone else other than him as human, family were tools to be used and discarded, killed if inconvenient. The only thing he felt when his nephew died was delight at the opportunity for his line to take over when it broke his older brother's spirit. Even Azulon was sickened by this BUT its the natural deterioration of the generations mentality under these conditions. Taking propoganda and cruelty at face value and embracing it for its own sake.
That was the sort of troops Ozai had to commit the mass purge during the comet's second coming. Pyscho fire supremacists built off 100 years of indoctrination, war and extremism feeding their rage and hate based fire bending who would delight in burning lands from horizon to horizon. Hitting new feats compared to sozens time.
@@tenjenk Azulon was a good father, he immediately put Ozai in his place as he knew he´d ruin the family and the fire nation if he became firelord, the man spent too much of his life in the palace instead of in the war.
He was also a more competent Firelord than Sozin, Sozin spent his last years being paranoid and obcessed with finding the avatar, meanwhile Azulon had to get to his hands dirty with the Earth Kingdom military Campaign he had no time for goose chases.
For people who read the Comics, Azulon spoiled Ozai with the arranged marriage with basically Roku´s grandaughter, he expected Ozai to carry respect as a firebender, instead he had to deal with a fraud, Azulon knew Ozai was dangerous and was likely planning to keep his ass in line until after the next coming of the comet was done, but because he was assassinated, now Ozai had carte blanche to go doing his genocide plans with his generals which Zuko opposed. Under Azulon, Zuko would´ve never been banished and Ozai would´ve been the one humbled in the Agni Kai with Azulon going in and scarring his face himself.
As for why he spoke in such ruthless terms, it´s because Azulon knows the kind of family he has, he can afford to treat Iroh and the rest of the family with respect with the exception of Ozai, because he knows Ozai only respects Power, Iroh would likely not allow Zuko to get killed in the firstplace and relinquish the succession rights to Ozai anyway, but Ozai just had to Flex his way against the strongest current Firebender of the time and disrespect his more accomplished brother.
@sebas8225 yes I'm aware but he was still a war monger. He's the typical 2nd generation followup to sozins first gen and ozai is the typical 3rd gen followup. Ozai and their society is what his actions and sozins actions created. The consequences of the world they made.
@@tenjenk It wasnt that bad according to what we got from the comics, aside from the stupid pointless campaign on Ba Sing Sei, there were Earth kingdom colonies who prospered under Azulon, the problem was that Azulon secured all of that through power with 0 thoughts to diplomacy being given, on top of the disgusting tactics used on the water tribes and keeping a stupid anti-firebending spirtualism policy which F´ed the dragon kind.
But if you think about it Azulon was kinda F´ed into becoming a warmonger because Sozin waited til 82 to give birth to him, this means that Azulon was likely heavily propagandized in his childhood and didnt had time to learn from Avatar Roku himself, I imagine after he got poisoned and on his death bed he must´ve realized his father was a shi*stain
Remember, No -Russian- Airbender
Sozin will be forever known as a coward.
No wonder the Airbenders were extinct because the Fire Nations
Original animated series from 2005: well duhhhhhhhhh
The comet is so weak in this version. The firebenders sre barely stronger than the firebenders on Zuko's boat later in the episode. Shouldn't they be shooting out huge cones of fire like in the finale of the animated series?
Well why his clothes doesn't burnt off that's pretty off
Brothers and sisters? Wtf air nomads were in gender separated temples.
Why is the Comet so weak lol
THIS. If this was their base form I would have been fine but this was Sozin comet firebenders, their fires should have been bigger at least.
I don’t understand why they would want to nerf firebenders that much considering that it is the weakest element among the four.
@@Saicofake They should have burned the temples to the ground while riding dragons like how the Fire Nation planned to do to the Earth Kingdom with airships a hundred years later. The airbenders should not have been able to muster any kind of resistance.
@@azronger7214 this too. I know CGI is expensive and omitting the dragons was acceptable but c’mon, that was a piss poor attempt of showing the genocide.

1 on 1, firebending is almost always outclassed against the other 3 discipline.
Oct.7 succeeded in the avatar world. No airbenders survived.
I like the carnage and ruthlessness the fire benders have but they did Gyatso wrong. I thought there would be a pile of corpses around him and he wouldnt go easy
