Q1 - Why is 'Leaves from the vine' sadder than Aang's discovery of the air nomads' fate, according to a 2022Jun poll? (In-universe reasons only.) They don't even use the g word to describe what happened to the air nomads. Cowards.
Q2
'Leaves from the vines' is about a war criminal crying over another war criminal. How's it sad BEFORE Iroh fully defects?
But even after Iroh defects, I don't see how it's sadder than Aang's reaction to air nomads. Or maybe the writing was bad because it's a kids' show which doesn't really dwell much on the g word. Idk.
Notes:
1
Change 'war criminal' to 'unjust war aggressor' if need be.
2
Imagine you had relatives who met fates similar to the air nomads', but people were crying over leaves from the vine. Eg Uyghur, Cambodia, Rohingya, et al.

Zuko is Israel, while Sokka is Hamas.
ATLA netflix S01E01 - I noticed something:
- Zuko is like Israel because Zuko accepts a 1v1 fight to reduce civilian casualties.
- But Sokka like Hamas / Palestine is a war criminal (just like in the original with the false flag on the hot air balloon) by using children as soldiers and human shields by putting them in the front lines namely at the gates of the southern water tribe. Lol.
What do you think?

Personally I think the reason Gatso wasn’t there when Aang returned was because he finally found peace seeing Aang one last time and was able to move on.
In don’t think Gyatso wasn’t there was because if he stayed Aang would stay.
Agreed. He said what he needed to.
I think he only stayed to encourage Aang to let go of his guilt
Reincarnation isn't real, resurrection is!!
@@user-uq7jm4ix1n Oh yeah? Tell that to the Avatar
His soul could not find peace until he greeted his friend one last time. Friends can extend across lifetimes.
And until he told him what he needed to know. That he should not blame himself.
I loved the addition of this scene. So emotional. Gyatso telling Aang that him being there wouldn’t change anything is such a powerful scene. The live action changed many things I didn’t like but this is one of the ones I loved.
I liked it. Very emotional. But does this fit the story? What is so tragic about Aang is he never got closure. His whole race of people were just completely massacred literally a century ago, yet Aang feels responsible. He has to get over it. That feels more realistic. Solving this conflict by just letting Aang talk to Gyatso I feel like completely removes that void Aang has that is pushing him forward. It's sorta makes his character weaker emotionally because he doesn't get over it himself
Well, it's true. If anything, Aang running away was the best decision he ever made.
@@TANMAN84 it does fit the story, because aang is able to later on master the avatar state by having to get over the guilt of his tragic past which will happen much later.
@@TANMAN84bruh hes an avatar he could meet spirits
Me too. This was wonderful.
It’s no surprise that he stayed behind for Aang. Gyatso was practically Aang’s dad.
And also best friend in Aang’s previous life
This scene appropriately felt like a warm hug with that warm color grading and soft glow
A great way to describe it, I love this❤
This scene really did Justice to Aang and Gyatso’s relationship that was shown in the cartoons. Sure it takes away the mysticism of the cartoon, but it highlights their relationship. As friends, as father and son, and as two airbender monks of the same nation.
And (in Aang's case) reincarnated friends. Remember Gyatso was friends with Roku when he was training in Airbending
Amen
One of the best moments in the live action remake.
Even the haters can’t hate this scene.
friendships sometimes transcend a lifetime. gyatso was good friends with avatar roku. knowing that made this scene even more heartbreaking.
And Toph is still the Avatar's mentor after Aang passed away.
@@tristanlau1213also katara
I love that they added this, Gyatso assuring Aang that his death was not his fault, to keep being who he is and press forward and he'll be waiting for him when he's ready to move on to the spirit world
i love how they include the detail of gyatso pulling his shirt over his head to cheat in pai sho, because in the oirginal they show a flashback like that and its holds meaning to aang and it delivers because as soon as gyatso does that he remembers immidiatley.
At least this version gave Aang closure that he didn't have in the OG cartoon😢
I like to think when he wasn’t there it was due to him sticking around to encourage Aang to let go of his guilt
It's good that Gyatso told Aang that it wasn't his fault, because that is true. I'm tired of heroes in media getting blamed for things they realistically couldn't have done anything about. Aang was a mere child who'd just learned he was the Avatar; as horrifically sad and evil that the genocide was, Aang surviving it the way he did ulitmately allowed both the Avatar Spirit and the Air Nomads to survive down the line. Had he stayed, he would have died with his people (rendering the Air Nomads totally extinct with no hope of restoration) and quite possibly in the Avatar State, which would break the cycle and mean no more Avatars ever.
The air normal not totally extinct , still have people escape outside to born the descendant
But since the culture about airbender no longer exist
Descendant of the survival can’t awaken the bending abilty to using it anymore
I 100% agree! People keep blaming him for the war because he ran away like a coward and didn’t fight back “when they needed him the most”.
Aang is a child! The Avatar isn’t revealed until they turn 16, when they’re a bit more mature, but Aang is 12. He only learned about this a few hours before the invasion and found out he was going to be sent away from his mentor/guardian/friend to start learning the other bendings. Being told he has to save the world is a lot of pressure on a kid, of course he’s going to be scared!
He didn’t even run away. He was just going out to clear his head for a bit and was going to return home as soon as he saw how bad the storm was. The iceberg was an accident.
Someone finally telling him that none of this is his fault, that he wouldn’t have survived if he had stayed with them really helped him I think. It was something he needed to hear because it was true. Yeah, he’s a powerful air bender, but so were the other masters and they fell.
@@PuccaLover15 to be fair
The air normad fail because they refuse killing
Even gyatso only choose killing at the final moment
That how and why they fail
They stick to their culture which lead to their dead
@@vietcuongnguyenle8530 mhm after watching the live action I got more aware of the effect of what Sozin did.
No matter how many generations we go into the future, the airnation will never become something close to what it was.
@joris5429 If it's any consolation; The Air Nomads are thriving again by the time of Korra and Sozin is hopefully burning in hell
The final scene where he said it wasnt his fault made me cry 😢
Gyatso reminds me of my grandfather! Such a joker who loved to play tricks and had such a jovial laughter. This is how I dream I would reunite with him.
Amazing comment.
I dont care what everybody thinks how bad it was, It was beautiful and full with emotions. It is a perfect masterpiece
Not many thought it was bad. It captured the heart of the Original but made adjustments that were better suited for the now adult fanbase.
I'm upset with how Netflix handled the story. But this, I was crying on the inside. And they handle "Leaves On The Vine" just right, there's gonna be a lot of people balling their eyes out
Lol bad. Au contraire better than the original. Just like the Aladdin movie.

@@nicbentulan very well thought out analysis mate.
This is one of those scenes that wasn't in the animation whatsoever, and Netflix just kind of took the liberty of adding this, and it actually benefits the existing story, I love it!!
This and the 41st division bowing to Zuko were the two scenes that made me cry. 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Growing up with the show. There is so much lore that can be expanded upon. This show isn't like Star Wars where the story is so passionately fixed with comics and lore. This show has the ability to have things added to it and this right here was so heart warming.
This is the best scene of the live-action, hands down 😭
What i think most when seeing this scene is that he did an uncle Iroh cause when he died between Atla and lok he passed to the spirit world
Well Iroh left his body and his soul went into the spirit world and i love the video of him and zuko visit him in the spirit world and they play pie so and it’s funny
I keep rewatching this scene over and over again…personal feelings about the LA aside, I love this scene so much.
Gyatso reminds me a lot of my late grandfather. His looks, humor and laugh. I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to him.
I’d give anything in this world to see him again and give him one last hug.
i know people hate this series but in my retrospect i saw some stuff here that warms my heart. especially the hug moment which ive been wanting for them.
Monk Gyatso is the best father-figure and best friend of Aang
This was a beautiful scene
Could you in imagine if this was Koh being nice . Like deep down he understood the avatar was needed and Koh didn’t hate all avatars just kuruk . So could you imagine him trying to mess with him but was like “hol up”
This was beautiful!! This should’ve been in the original animated series!!
I think this part is already shown in the animated series, the flashback episode during the time Aang and the gang embraced the storm
I loved the netflix show because although it has some big changes to the original. It gave us moments like this and the ones with iroh. Ang was able to at least meet his friend one las time and that he told him to move on with himself
This was a nice touch. Something we didn't see in the original series that makes it in some ways sweeter. It's nice that Aang got to see Gyatso one last time. I also like how Gyatso told him not to blame himself for what happened, and that none of it is his fault. He wisely told Aang that there was nothing he could've done and that if he stayed he would've died with the rest of them. He's just happy that he survived.
The live action adaptation of this show definitely had its faults, this scene was not one of them. It hit me right in the feels and I’m so glad we got this reunion. I also think Ang really needed to hear that he couldn’t have stopped what happened and it wasn’t his fault.
I feel like this scene should have been in the animated series
This scene alone makes up for them showing the genocide and the other changes because it gives Aang the closure he needed. The thing that was heartbreaking the most to me in the Netflix version of the show is he was not "running away". He literally says he is going on a flight to clear his mind.
I was crying inside. It wouldn't stop
When Aang needed him the most, he returned.
I really like this addition, they give us a hearfell closure between Gyatzo and Aang, tho the regret is still there.
Best new content live action, this is really emotional
This gave me so much closure that i needed with all the theories i had myself ... I feel at peace now
I absolutely love this scene it's such a heart warming
Everyone else: When we needed you the most, you ran away! You’re a coward! This is all you fault!
Gyatso: None of this was your fault, Aang. Even if you didn’t leave the Southern Air Temple, there’s nothing you could do to save us from the Fire Nation. You would have been dead like the rest of us.
Gyatso's spirit
Man this had me tearbending.
“Time, time is a funny thing”🥺
That scene was so wholesome ❤
I get why some people says that the original series is better than this. But dude, seeing Aang and Gyatso talking one last time, which we didn't get in the original series, really made me tear up. 🥲🥲🥲
God this made me cry 😢
So shines a good deed in a weary world.
This show has mixed reviews, but I still enjoyed it.
Gyatso likely knew this would be the last time he spoke to Aang before moving on. You could see it in his face after Aang said that he would be back. Telling Aang that what happened to him and the others wasn't Aang's fault was likely the thing that Gyatso needed to inform Aang of. We all feel accountable for things we don't have control over. By realizing that we don't have control over the choices of others, we can let go of a lot of emotional baggage.
One of the few additional things they added that was definitely necessary
😭 glad to see this scene
Time, time is a funny thing.the past, the future it all gets mixed up.
There's only one way to keep it straight.
Always remember who you are.
Damn it, now I have to watch it.
Super nice that you uploaded this scene, but the cutting really ruins it :(
There's background music and pauses between the dialogue
And the cutting changes that.
They have to cut it, otherwise UA-cam's copyright algorithm will take it down
@@XandarYTOh yes I understand. I do know that applies to most movies. But I have seen small scenes from movies on UA-cam before.
That's why I found it odd that the uploader did that here
Now that was beautiful!
That look on Gyatso's face when Aang says he'll come back to talk more. He knows he won't be there 🥺
I'm emotional when they hug 🥺
Aang: Can we talk about it when I get back?
Gyatso: 🥴😔😑😶😖 Of course
0:40
The soundtrack that chimes in when they hug just makes the scene even better, does anyone know what it's called?
One of the things that added to aangs character in t.o.s was that he didn't get closure. It was a source of guilt he needed to overcome to master the avatar state.
This scene made me cry😅
What song of the soundtrack is used in this scene?
The best part of this show that doesn't exist in animation series 🔥😭
Glad gyatso has his spot light
man gyasto is like his dad
Gyatso: It’s not your fault.
Aang: Yeah I know that.
Gyatso: Look at me son.
Aang: **looks at him**
Gyatso: It’s not your fault.
Aang: I know.
Gyatso: It’s not your fault.
Aang: I know
Gyatso: No no you don’t. It’s not your fault.
Aang: I know
Gyatso: It’s not your fault.
Aang: Alright.
Gyatso: It’s not your fault… It’s not your fault.
Aang: Don’t f*ck with me. 😢
Gyatso: It’s not your fault.
Aang: Don’t f*ck with me, alright!Don’t f*ck with me, not you!😢😡
Gyatso: It’s not your fault
Aang: 😭😭😭
Gyatso: It’s not your fault.
Aang: **hugs Gyatso**
0:32 instant call back to the series. hahahh
I literally cried when he told aang it wasn’t his fault 😭😭😭 I kept reminding myself that this is a kids show !!
Man, the sadness in Monk Gyatso’s eyes. 😢
Well done
When did this scene happened in the live action. I mean like the before and after context of this scene. Did he die already in the live action??
0:40 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Loved this scene
Aang and GYATTso!
this proves my point; everyone incarnates in the avatar world. Only the avatar keeps their memory due to Raava
Men, gyatso and previous fire bender avatar is friends before.
Loved Gyatso in this show
Gyatso knew he probably womt see aang again
I flooded my apartment during this scene 😫
When he gets excited he’s very aang like but they wrote him way too serious too often
Honestly, say what you will about this series, this is a good addition
💀 monk gyatso emoji
I wish they had animated this in the original series.
Ah yes good old "gya"tso.
After seeing Gyatso in the spirt world I thought he would stay there, just like Iroh did in The Legend of Korra
The Netflix wasn't great or bad it's actually better than the movie they attempt to make and I really like that they took advice from the writers.
Monk Gyatso full name id Monk Him Gyatso.
See im conflicted on scenes like this. Yes its great seeing him with gyatso and actually saying goodbye but doesn't it kinda remove character growth and just a touch of realistic emotion. Aang having regrets about leaving and not getting closure with gyatso is just such a real feeling because weve all experienced stuff like that. And instead of him having to grow and realize that the war isn't actually his fault he just gets told it by someone aang wouldn't doubt. I dunno I just think its more impactful without a scene like this. Maybe if it got put in a later season like if they adapted a comic storyline but this just feels like fan service
Wouldnt Aang have used the Avatar State as he would be getting burned up?
Like he used it when in the water.
Nah he could have saved them
He may activate the avatar state but at the same time the comets enhanced the firebenders. He may be a 1kid army but he up against severals adults who let's say about 1 with 10 men strength. He'll still be outnumbered and also with other monks at near the area could probably distracted him. Just as he could be calm down out of the avatar state when katara calls him concernly in the animated series.
The best characters in avatar netflix are zuko, iroh, gyatso and ozai
Exactly bro
They should have included a scene similar to this in the original animated series.
Momo is Gyatso
If I was the hero. I wouldn’t blame myself for sth that isn’t my fault cos that’s what Aang was doing. Glad Gyatso cleared things with him cos there’s no way he would have being able to defeat Sozin and his army when they are invaded. Even with the avatar state, he would still be outmatched against the fire nation’s overwhelming might during the attack cos even when just learning he was the avatar at that same period of time, he was still not prepared to fight the firebenders that if he was already fully realized avatar
Gyatso more like Gyatt so 😂😂😂 im not mocking ok😅😅😅
Its not your fault good will hunting.
Wait..How did Aang get in the spirit world!?!(Iroh should have visit later.)
The Moon/Spirit Oasis in the North Pole
He meditated
Well I'll be.
He’s too serious
Gyyaaattttt
Gyatso is Aang's real father
