  • "The Avatar and The Fire Lord" is an iconic episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender rooted in the history of the Fire Nation and culminating in the death of Avatar Roku, Aang's predecessor. Roku's death is a shocking betrayal from Sozin and in many ways is the inciting incident for the imbalance across the Four Nations and the Hundred Year War.

At least that is where modern ones are descended from. Except, steam engines were actually first invented in Greece in the first century AD. Nothing ever became of it, but it was there and it worked. Things are independently invented thousands of years apart in real life too. And not just inventions, it happens in nature too. In reading this, he not only learned that these were his two grandfathers, but that Sozin clearly reflected the actions of his father Ozai and sister Azula whereas Roku reflected the actions of his Uncle Iroh and his mother Ursa.
Ozai & Azula were willing to destroy the lives of their supposed friends/family if it meant achieving their goals. On the other hand, Iroh and Ursa were willing to give up their own lives if it meant protecting those they cared for! Consequently, this affirmed to Zuko what the right path to take was from there!

Roku is by far my favourite Avatar. I really hated how he went out. The betrayal in his eyes was equal to Mufasa when Scar betrayed him.
At least we got Aang out of it all...

He's bending the energy out of it and redirecting it like you would lightning. all bending is energy-based, but since fire is literal combustion of matter it is the closest to pure energy. Both lightningbending and heatbending are extensions of firebending. The "steam" was an artistic choice to illustrate the bending, like how airbending would be invisible if it weren't for the "air beams" that are created.

    • @poseidonrox95

so to answer your question, no, we haven't seen anyone else energybend heat, but we have seen them do it with lightning.
