- Today Patrick introduces us to the real Mach 5 from Speed Racer! Built in just 17 days by Gotham Garage, this car was never meant to be a functional automobile, but a replica of the famous cartoon car.
The Mach 5 has been described as “the most famous race car in the world” because of the continuing popularity of the 1967 Speed Racer cartoon series, which has an estimated fan base of 50 million people. In 2000, this three-dimensional interpretation of the cartoon Mach 5 completed a nationwide automotive safety tour sponsored by the Child Safety Network. Speed Racer Motors later unveiled plans to build a Signature Series of 100 road-ready Mach 5’s numbered and signed by Peter Fernandez, the voice actor and creative force behind the Speed Racer Cartoons. Unlike this prototype which has a mid-engine, the Corvette-based “production” roadsters will feature a 5.7-liter, 385-horsepower V-8 engine mounted in the front.

I made a Mach 5 out of Lego (which I reconfigured from a Speed Champions Lamborghini Countach) as well as Racer X's Shooting star. I love Speed Racer and especially the Mach 5. My top dream car alongside Herbie the Love Bug. Since childhood, those two cars have been "racing" in my mind for my no. 1 Dream Car. To this day in my mind, the Mach 5 and Herbie are still racing.

The Mach 5 didn’t have machine guns or homing missiles on it. It had the saws, the auto jacks, the infrared light headlights, the bullet-proof, crash-proof, and airtight glass cover, the Homing Robot and the button that supplies the cockpit of the Mach 5 with thirty minutes of air and raises a periscope above the water! Pretty cool car! 😁😁😁😁

This car actually looks better on tape. We’re on film than it does in real life because I’ve actually stood right next to it doesn’t look that great.
It is so dumb why they took that program up the t. V.. Not to mention taking McDonald's signs down with Ronald McDonald.

Because it's a Gotham Garage car, it doesn't really work.
Thats a horrible rendering of the Mach5. The front end looks very cool, the door is WAY out of proportion too short, too low as is the quarter panel. The car deserved much better.
The anime was awful. It has some of the worst animation to ever be put on an American TV. It was on the UHF channels in the afternoon in my city when I was a kid (1970s) and my older brother liked it, but I thought it sucked. Still do till this day.
THATS AS LAME AS IT GETS SHOULD OF LEFT IT AS CARTOON SINCE IT CANNOT RUN OR DRIVE 😢😢😢

That thing is badass! I would definitely drive it if I could get in and out of it! Just think I could chalk chalk over the TRAFFIC! Maybe do some woodworking with those Blades! How fun!🙃😝🫡😎✌️🇺🇸
