You want to talk about fringe cartoons? Di gate defenders is the best action adventure show that absolutely nobody knows about. As for speed racer, I loved this show as a kid, it was great.
Ey Can you do next: Immortal Grand Prix Monsuno Di Gata Defenders Redakai Exchange Student Zero Detentionaire Galactik Football Penn Zero Part Time Hero Supa Strikas The Venture Bros. Zatch Bell D.I.C.E.
I looked up to see if their was another speed racer 3d cartoon because I remember it looking so much better lol I think my brain is confusing it with the iron man 3d cartoon around the same time that was a little better 3d animated
On God I def remember this show on nicktoons but that live action movie is still good 15 years later I saw it once in theaters back in 08 then again last year and it's still just as good as it was back in the day.
@jameslegends0920 I'd really reccomend the original Speed Racer, it's a Tatsunoko classic for a reason. The same company also responsible for the popular Time Bokan franchise (like Yatterman) and Gatchaman, which had its seasons dubbed by Saban as Eagle Riders iirc.
It's about time. This show had me glued to the TV every Saturday when it aired. By no means was it one of my favorites but during the time I was watching it I was pleasantly surprised with the character and plot progression.
I remember this. The part of this sequel I always enjoy but wish they explored on was how Speed Racer's brother Rex did eventually decide to reveal to his family that he is alive at some point after Speed Racer which is why Speed Racer was able to give X things that once belong to his brother Rex. It could have been a interesting episode focusing on Rex's eventually reunion with his family and how they reacted to him still being alive (well Speed already knew since he figured it out already but it looked like he decided to keep Rex being alive a secret until Rex was ready to tell the truth)
Thank you, the Speed Racer movie is super under appreciated. I've been saying for years how perfect of an adaptation it was for a live action cartoon, the colors and action are perfect for the source material. It is genuinely in my top 5 movies.
Man I nearly forgot about having watched this show. As soon as I started watching this video a TON of memories I had from it seemed to unlock in my head. Thank you for this video, this made my day today.
I totally remember this one, it has a similar vibe to the Hot Wheels World Race/Acceleracers series, in a good way. I recorded the episodes on DVR back in the day since I love cars and cartoons! I had also seen a number of the original Speed Racer episodes so it was cool to see some amount of continuity…I remember telling my mom about it since she watched the original as a kid.
I'd love for Jordan to make a video on Dragon Tales. I'm shocked he hasn't done that yet, considering it and Cyberchase (which has already been covered) were a part of many's childhoods.
Loved this show as a kid and am still active in its fandom today: This is one of the most succinct explanation of what this show was and where exactly it falls flat I've seen in a long time. For anyone who's looking at this show and wondering how anyone not watching it to make a video essay is getting through it, the answer is that anyone who is still engaging with this show in the modern day looked at it, squinted, said "come on, I can do better than that" and got to work.
You just resurfaced a deeply burried memory. When I clicked on the video my thought was “wait. This was a thing? Weird.” And then seeing some of the clips you put in the video I slowly realized “holy crap I DID watch this show as a kid”. It was probably a short phase otherwise I would’ve remembered it better but yeah thanks for the reminder lol
To clear your confusion the second to last episode is the true finale the last episode released is a filler that has nothing to do with the main story and was made for fun (reason I say it isn’t apart of the main story is certain stuff doesn’t line up at all like Analease isn’t a robot and other stuff ik is off but I haven’t watched in awhile!)
Man, I've been waiting for this one! This show was one of the highlights of my childhood and that theme song freaking slaps! There are a few things that I will admit haven't aged well (like the animation for example) but I still love the fond memories this show gave me. Also, I was obsessed with the virtual tracks they raced on and the different ways they could race! I haven't watched the original Speed Racer so this was my fist experience with the larger franchise.
my mom used to take me to block buster, there was one left in the city we used to live in and speed racer next generations was something I got over and over again. there was also this Hotwheels acceleracers movie I got repeatedly lol, good times
This show was my introduction to speed racer. I greatly enjoyed watch it for the races and I actually liked the simplicity of the cars design it kept the screen feeling less crowded. After that I went to the live action movie and now I work on cars of my own trying to feel like spritle and enjoy everything about cars
Man i remember this show, it was certainly interesting, thanks for covering it! Still hoping one day you'll tackle the very interesting but weird show Moville mysteries, not to confuse with Martin mysteries lmao i think you'll have a good time
Speed racer the next generation was 100% part of my childhood. It’s kind of a shame that this show didn’t age well, but I did like the creativity of the story at least for season one at least and the first part of season two and I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about the mach 6 design but I like it especially the shooting star as well
As a kid in the early 2000’s, aside from a few book adaptations of the original Speed Racer show and the Live Action Movie, The Next Generation was my introduction into the Speed Racer franchise and brand. And I personally loved it! Growing up, I eventually came to notice some problems with the second season, and I’m still not a fan of the time travel reset they did towards the end of season two, and even as a kid I was frustrated with season two’s release schedule. But I still love the first season for what it tries to do and the fun ride it took me on when I was a kid.
DUDE im so glad you covered this! I worked for the comoany who made this. It was callws Animation Collective in NYC. the company that produced this Kappa Mikeu threes Delivery and more. I was put on for season 2 of Speed Racer. It was so strange because there was A LOT behind the scenes. The company had The 3D animation done at one of the 3 NYC branches and I had to set up the Flash files to be sent to FatCat Studio in Canada. There was. A lot going on terms of production and budgeting. I'm glad you covered this!
Also I will confirm budget issues was a MAJOR thing within the company. You hit the nail on your head. I'm trying to finally make a video of my experience since I found my notes and pics from my time there. I feel you really did a great job covering this
i think one of the reasons why I liked speed racer the next generation was because of the gasless technology of the mach 6 and the potential it brought
The first season is fantastic. It felt like a real sequel to the original that had great story and some really good filler episodes that are great for lessons that kids shows have. Second season though, things got a little ridiculous. It was ALL story based, it became very predictable, and then there was the time travel gimick. That did not need to happen and it destroyed Annalise's character development.
You should actually do a video of the Speed Racer live action movie. That movie is not simply "so weird it's good", it is actually genuinely good. The final race is the most shounen anime thing you can see in any live action adaptation out there.
Mixing 3-D backgrounds with 2-D animations has been done a few times at Mexican animation studio Anima Estudios, who is famous for their film adaptations of Hanna-Barbera's Top Cat cartoon, Top Cat: The Movie and its prequel, Top Cat Begins, as well as their animated adaptation of the classic Televisa TV series El Chavo del Ocho, known as El Chavo Animado and their animated adaptation of the Televisa TV series El Chapulin Colorado, known as El Chapulin Colorado Animado.
i loved this show as a kid and i'm not sure why. i've never liked media about racing and i don't care about cars at all but for some reason i would watch it whenever i saw it was on. i had no idea there was a season 2. i doubt i'd be able to get through watching it now that i'm older with different tastes but i really liked it back then and think back on it fondly :)
I was watching Speed Racer in 1970 when I was a kid. On a UHF channel. Most people won’t know what I am talking about. Speed Racer and Spider-Man were my favorite tv shows.
I only ever had the Pilot DVD as a kid, and always assumed it was some late 90's early 2000's thing. What do you MEAN it came out in 2008 and ran until 2013!?
So we were denied Speed Racer, Macross, and the Samurai Pizza Cats in Tatsunoko VS Capcom because of licensing issues, but instead we got crap like this?
I loved this show as a kid. but then again, I had little to no context on the original Speed Racer, so maybe it was easier for me to enjoy versus someone who was already a fan of the franchise.
Let’s not forget how incredibly unhinged the original Speed Racer show was. He’s supposed to be a world famous teen race car driver, but would constantly cheat by ramming other drivers off the road and don’t even get me started on how he literally guns people down every other episode😂
There’s no way I was randomly feeling nostalgia about this series and decided to look it up and find a one day old video talking all about it. This is epic.
What I remember is watching it constantly and then playing Lego Racers 2 on my Grandma's computer, trying to recreate some of the scenes from the show.
I remembered there being one of those mean girls that turns good and really thought it was the Voltron show that came out around the time this came out and looks a bit similar to this. Turns out I was actually remembering this show. I really like those kind of characters so this has been something I've been meaning to watch.
I remember this show. And the episode where the virtual world was on the brink of destruction with two of the characters stuck inside. That one did not sit well with me for years
I remember watching this on Nicktoons and honestly I did enjoy it and always looked forward to seeing more of it. I also enjoyed the live-action movie as well.
FINALLY!! Someone other than me remembers this show! Honestly I remember the animation not looking this oddly watching it as a kid back in 08. Honestly be nice if Speed Racer both the original series and maybe the next generation got a reboot with modern anime animation. Next Generation could have been greater maybe if the characters were more fleshed out and the animation was more anime just like it's original counterpart and just going back on the drawing board for the story.
I was obsessed with this show and the original speed racer as a kid, I completely blocked out how weird the animation looks but looking at these clips ooof that’s rough
This just sent me on a wild search for a cartoon i vaguely remember and the toys that came from it, I thought it was a hot wheels thing but it turns out it was NASCAR Racers. The cars all had weapons and mods that let them do stunts like drive while completely sideways, I haven't thought about this franchise for 20 years.
Boy do I remember Speed Racer the Next Generation???? I faithfully tuned in on Nicktoons, and my younger brother and I had the original series on DVD, a collection boxset that my father bought us. Clearly this series was not memorable enough, because I only remember the graphics and that it aired, no actual plot points 😂
This show, _The New Adventures of Speed Racer_ and _Speed Racer X_ ALL had time travel as major plot points. The main recurring antagonist of _The New Adventures of Speed Racer_ was a guy from the future who wanted to conquer the past, and the entire second arc, out of two, in _Speed Racer X_ featured the main characters and an evil emperor from the future trying to beat each other to alien macguffins scattered through time. Why did three different shows based off _Speed Racer_ made by three different groups of people, all prominently feature time travel, when there was absolutely zero time travel in that original show?
The ideas and racing in different Realms reminds me more of Hot Wheels Highway 35 and Accelaracers. Those era of racing where the best. I am not sure if you did a video of it but I highly suggest watching both series, they are really good.
my professor in college worked on this series. She didn't have a lot to say about it, just that it was "a fun job". she was one of the people who composited the CGI cars into the scenes.
I remember when Peter Ferndandez first announced the show during the American Anime Awards. When he said it was going to involve an adult Spritel and a new generation of racers, I thought it would be some sort of Mad Max-esque sequel where racing has devolved into an all or nothing bloodsport and Speed Racer's name had become nothing more than a legend with Spritel, now an older and more seasoned adult, leading a new band of racers to bring racing back to what it once was. You can imagine the disappointment I had when that was absolutely not even remotely close to the show we actually got. Keep in mind, I was 13 at the time so of course I was disappointed that it wasn't the edgelord's wet dream of one of my Dad's favorite cartoons from when he was a kid even if he didn't explicitly know it was anime at the time.
I remember watching this as a kid and not realizing that my younger sister didn’t know this was a remake until she saw the original with a very confused face lmao
I loved Speed Racer The Next Generation as a kid and I love it even now! I even have Disks and DVDs of the show to this day at home, That I didn't even know I had, I'm not even kidding! Speed Racer The Next Generation carried my whole childhood as a kid. Its still enjoyable to watch and everything. The intro is amazing and I really love it from the bottom of my heart! They sure did a better job making the intro sound way more amazing and just better than the 1967 one.
This is one of my few childhood memories that doesn't really have much weight because I didn't really watch much of it I still have an urge to rewatch it and see what actually happened in the series tho.
I honestly wouldn’t mind another Mach GoGoGo reboot. One that closely resembles what the 60s anime was intended to be without turning into Speed Racer. The last part wouldn’t be a dealbreaker, but it would be cool to see it in a more raw form without going futuristic or anything spectacular. That, and I just can’t get enough of that original theme song with that dramatic Japanese flavor.
I remember Voltron Force being another show from that era having a similar premise: sequel series that focuses on a next generation and aired on Nicktoons.
I remember seeing at least one episode as a kid and not understanding what the heck was going on. It looked weird and unfinished in places and the only knowledge I had on speed racer was the movie, which turned out to be cheesy and awesome in all the right places. Then I finally saw the original anime as an adult and it's the most hilarious thing I think I've seen that really defined early anime dubs for me. So I guess you could say the Next Generation didn't work on its own, but it helped introduce me to what led to itm It was an experiment that had opposite results
I had my own next gen Speed Racer stoty where the name "Racer" is a pseudonym and instead of being called "Speed Jr." Speed's son (who is an only child) is called "Blaze".
Oh right this was a thing and man this show was something i watched every single day it premiered an episode. Yeah the show's animation hasn't aged all that well but still it's charming in it's own way. Yeah this show falls from a cliff in terms of its story and man what the actual hell season 2 felt like MLAATR in terms of the release dates. Also totally forgot about the Live Action Speed Racer Movie thanks for reminding me of its existence and i remember wanting to watch it. Well hopefully the new show does it great and man i would like to see a new try with this idea of a sequel series.
Thanks so much for watching! What are your thoughts on Speed Racer: The Next Generation? Should we get a new Speed Racer cartoon series in general?
I have to agree that Speed Racer should get another Anime at some point
You want to talk about fringe cartoons? Di gate defenders is the best action adventure show that absolutely nobody knows about.

I think it is over-appreciated.

Oh my god I’ve had hundreds of vivid memories from all throughout this show for so many years, I’m so happy to see somebody finally talk about it!!

This is the first show you've reviewed that I don't remember at all. Interesting to see what it was all about.
Trixie being the true main villain of this show blew my mind as a kid.
You would've thought it was Speed Sr. Given how much of a psycho he was in his youth.
When I was a kid and watched that reveal I genuinely cried, I was so upset lmao

Loved this show as a kid and am still active in its fandom today: This is one of the most succinct explanation of what this show was and where exactly it falls flat I've seen in a long time. For anyone who's looking at this show and wondering how anyone not watching it to make a video essay is getting through it, the answer is that anyone who is still engaging with this show in the modern day looked at it, squinted, said "come on, I can do better than that" and got to work.

I remember watching this on Nick when I was a kid
50? You’re insane dude, take a spa day.
I remember watching this as a kid and not realizing that my younger sister didn’t know this was a remake until she saw the original with a very confused face lmao
Honestly, I loved the show as a kid. Love it even now.
This video unlocked a core memory dude.
Speed racer next generation ! Nostalgia ! And I saw the original version on cartoon network reruns , and the next generation was my guilty pleasure
Loved this show when it aired on television
I have random flashbacks of this show and sometimes I don’t think it was even a real show
I remember Voltron Force being another show from that era having a similar premise: sequel series that focuses on a next generation and aired on Nicktoons.
I loved this show and speed racer in general growing up.
I loved this show !!!
So I guess you could say the Next Generation didn't work on its own, but it helped introduce me to what led to itm
It was an experiment that had opposite results
"You've been expelled!"
Happy Fringemas, Jordan ❤
This got me wanting to watch the 2008 movie and I don’t regret
Why do I remember this show looking amazing like top tier my child mind 😅
The CGI in this show looks like a video game cutscene.
YES! THIS IS THE ONE I GREW UP WITH! I COULDN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF IT! X-RACER WAS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER!
