Jackson being a fan or working on the song doesn't surprise me his fingers were in a lot of pies in the music industry, often uncredited. After all he got Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me" its contract and even did the backing vocals after hearing it pitched for the first time. @M T Exactly. I don't know or understand any of the jokes about him, but his music and dance moves are what immediately come to mind when I think of him.

You're absolutely right Nostalgia Critic about the old style of Simpsons animation! Heck, in modern Simpsons we don't even get animation sequences like when Homer had a heart attack! It was so dramatic, visually stunning and really a gem to behold! Some other honorable mentions would be Bart is a vampire, Homer eating the Guatemala peppers, and Homer sells his soul for a donut! Now those are fantastic!
I was listening to an interview Brad Bird did recently on Q, and the animation in Hungary was even more complication. Initially they were confident that they could animate it...because the only simpsons they'd seen were the Tracey Ullman shorts. They kinda went "oh shit" when bird showed them the simpsons at the time, but still managed to do it.
i mean, its fun, colorful, inventive, have some great shimpson jokes in there.. what more is there to ask for? and those vocals and beat makes you wanna dance.
This entire episode felt so nostalgic, not only because of the subject you chose to cover, but also because seeing you tackle something so drenched in early 90's was a wonderful callback to your early days. Thanks for making me rediscover this nostalgic gem! Episodes like these remind me of why I began to follow your work in the first place ;)
Great episode. I remember hearing of "Do The Bartman" from probably one of the old VH1 specials, hell I never even saw the video nor did I know "The Simpsons" had a album that went platinum. Wow! For the first time in Nostalgia Critic history, Doug reviewed a nostalgic song. And I had no idea The Simpsons had a hit song back then. That's pretty cool! Nice one Doug.
Hey Doug, Here's something that I bet you didn't know... The choreographer for the "Do The Bartman" music video, Michael Chambers is actually none other than "Boogaloo Shrimp" from the "Breakin'" movies! Isn't it just mind-blowing how the show's creators got Brad Bird, Michael Jackson, and freaking Boogaloo Shrimp from the Breakin' movies to work on the "Do The Bartman" music video. Geez! That's pretty amazing! Also, I hope you don't mind me asking; but could you maybe do a review of Cloud Atlas, or of Across The Universe sometime in the near future. I'm a really big fan of your videos and I always look forward to watching each new review every week on Wednesday; as well as many of the other videos on your UA-cam channel: Channel Awesome. After months of hearing various rumors and tidbits of information while trying to avoid getting too wrapped up in it because the details are quite sketchy and all over the place; I finally broke down and read about the Channel Awesome Controversy. I don't know what to think about it. Mostly, because I don't know the whole story and it MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be as dramatic as everyone is dragging it out to be; but hey that's not my place to judge... what do I know. However, I'm not going to stop watching Channel Awesome or Nostalgia Critic. I'm sorry to hear that many of the wonderful contributors to Channel Awesome have left due to such devastatingly shocking developments. I hope that the people still at Channel Awesome will work hard to make sure that things will get better at the company; and I hope that Doug, Rob, and company can eventually mend many of their relationships with those that have left who are upset and hurt. I would really like to see Doug eventually do another crossover again with people like the Angry Video Game Nerd, Black Nerd, Angry Joe, Some Jerk With A Camera, Linkara, Mike Jeavons, Film Brain, Chris Stuckmann, Lil Karibo (God I hope I didn't spell that wrong), MasakoX, etc... I hope that they can eventually put aside their enmity to make good videos together again for us; because when Doug collaborates with others, that's when his reviews are the most special and the most enjoyable to watch (well that and the commercial specials).
What's also so great about the video is, it's almost a celebration of the simpsons as a whole(back when it was still good). It features practically every single use character the show had.
That has to be one of the stupidest lines when he was saying that. I want everyone to look at his angry face at the 6:48 mark. Why did he say, "You pause those scenes too, Don't act like you didn't." as he talked very angrily.
I always thought those back up vocals were MJ if nothing else but that was where my ponderings stopped as it was before the net so I couldn't do research even if I wanted to.

What’s even more amazing was that this music video came out at the time when the Simpsons animation didn’t look that good. Around the time of the first two seasons. Look how good everyone and everything looks in the music video compared to those two seasons. It’s impressive.
Genre Smith Productions That's because the show at the time was done by a different animation studio (Klasky-Csupo) - the one and the same animation studio that worked on "Rugrats" a year after the music video aired. Ironically, I think this song was actually responsible for the lacklustre reception some of us gave The Simpsons in the UK - see, the show was still exclusive to satellite TV at the time, and subscriptions to that in the UK weren't especially common. In the meantime, we still got every bit of merchandise, every video game, the other song, and that Sing The Blues album making direct references to the show that none of us got. Many of us knew the family members' names despite never watching the show. When the show finally came to regular TV almost a decade later (ad-free by the way!) and everybody could watch it, Bartmania had been and gone, along with several other shows evolved from its once-radical formula. Many of us finally saw The Simpsons and went "that was it?" Those of us were a pretty narrow slice of its audience, but that really was just what happened here.
Captain Imagination He totally needs to review Re-Animated. And mention its connection to one of the worst TV shows ever created (so bad it makes Seth MacFarlane's Dads look like The Sopranos)- Out of Jimmy's Head.

NostalgiNorden because people like me who are quite young find it nostalgic and simpsons have been around since the 80s so the characters are nostalgic too

Many of us finally saw The Simpsons and went "that was it?"
Those of us were a pretty narrow slice of its audience, but that really was just what happened here.
Channel Awesome can you guys review Hannah Montana The Movie. Also can you review Re-Animated.
oh yeah. he needs to review that pile of horseshit. (the latter)
Devin Howard I agree especially that both were signs of making Cartoon Network and Disney Channel ruined and destroyed it's reputation.
Captain Imagination Na, Disney Channel Still Doing Well! or at least getting back on track
Captain Imagination He totally needs to review Re-Animated. And mention its connection to one of the worst TV shows ever created (so bad it makes Seth MacFarlane's Dads look like The Sopranos)- Out of Jimmy's Head.
UnorthodoxRomance i know! the worst tv movie than every Lifetime movie combined!
I remember the year that song came out, it was everywhere. At work, in stores, on tv, on the radio... it was everywhere. It was inescapable.
The song is kind of catchy, though.
Sooo Brad Bird and Michel Jackson worked on this song dayum

NostalgiNorden because people like me who are quite young find it nostalgic and simpsons have been around since the 80s so the characters are nostalgic too

The Bartman is not just a dance, it is a way of life. All of life’s difficult questions can be answered by doing the Bartman.
Do The Bartman will always be awesome. I remember how huge it was when it came out. I also remember listening to The Simpsons Sing The Blues and being shocked that Do The Bartman was the only good thing on the album. As a kid, I expected an album of much higher quality 😅
This is actually really catchy I hope we get more Simpsons songs in the future
The first cassette tape i had when i was a kid was the bartman! So many memories
10:39 Everybody If You Can Do Bartman-Mmgh-Shake Your Body, Turn If You Can Can-Ughn-Do The Bartman, Yeah!

Doug, once again you have proven your ability to cheer up even someone with crippling depression.
