The peacock feathers from the seller, American Feathers, are listed as being naturally molted and cruelty free. I haven't investigated that claim further - but I do have fond memories of collecting shed peacock feathers in fields at a zoo when I was younger. So I know it is possible!

"A less hateful fabric than velvet"
Best. Line. Ever.
Truth! Velvet is a bugger!
Most appropriate description I've ever heard of velvet, for sure!
mirabai Silk charmeuse? Shudder
@@carriehunt9741 I’ll take velvet every day over charmeuse silk ... or silk chiffon. Shudder & scream!
If you want to add more stars, I'd add little ones to the sleeves instead of the bodice!
she didnt want to add sleeves to the bodice. she wanted to add them to the organza skirt overlay. so that it would blend in better with the under skirt. which i think could be a good idea, but they would need to be little tiny glass/beaded stars. i dont think adding anymore of the stars currently on there would add much to the dress.
Angela: It has feathers, it has a bow, it has a painted skirt. You know what else it needs?
Me: Sparkles??
Angela: Sleeves.
Me: what???! who r u ???
But you were right! The sleeves are sparkly!!
I hope you keep the first bodice anyway! I’m sure it would look wonderful with a different skirt. I love the cut, and the fabric.
"except when you are filing boning, then they are pretty much just for you" So cute xD
Angela: "Ironing is lame."
Me: "You're darn right it is!"
My disdain for ironing may, in fact, be one of the biggest reasons that I live vicariously through all of these talented UA-cam seamstresses. That, and my complete lack of space. At any rate, this is gorgeous! I love how the bodice turned out, but I do hope you get a chance to repurpose the first one you made, because those fabrics were glorious in their own right, even if they didn't work with this particular project. Also, I just dyed my hair purple, blue, and aquamarine. I'd love to see your blue!
I don’t think the bodice needs stars cause of the bow but maybe the sleeves? Just tiny ones.
As I was seated at my sewing machine this morning, I thought, I wonder how that peacock dress is coming along. I literally gave a little gasp when I saw the preview pic......STUNNING!!!!! And your tongue in cheek humor is hilarious
Is this going to be for the Worth event whenever it happens? I would love to see pics or even video footage of this dress next to Cathy Hay's Peacock Dress! Just imagine the two gowns taking a regal turn around the room, or coming down a grand staircase.... I'm giving myself chills just thinking about it! I can't wait to see all my favorite historical fashionistas with their chosen Worth gowns standing together! Don't one of you, either Cathy or Bernadette I can't remember lease a mailing addy at the old Worth Factory? Think how cool it would be to visit in your gowns for a shoot after all this pandemic mess is over! I'm getting way too obsessed with these dresses, lol!
Cathy has the Worth House postal address :)
@@invadersin5203 thanks, that was bugging me that I couldn't remember!
could you send a link about the worth event by any chance?
Elastic was used in the 1860s for undersleeves on day gowns. It isn't too far of a stretch (hehe) to use them on your bodice.
The peacock feathers and bow of the bodice front remind me of a cat's face. the amount of work you. put into this is phenomenal.
This might be one of the weirdest comments ever but I find the way you put pins into your fabric so satisfying to watch 😂
I don't think it's weird at all. It's a rhythmic motion that induces relaxation. Keep watching and relaxing!
This turned out so lovely!
About the peacock feathers :Since feathers are made of keratin, I wonder if they originally used steamed/water to soften the peacock feathers enough to make holes in the shards?
Good idea!
A thought I had, is possibly they thread wrapped the shafts with a color that matched the skirt fabric then sewed that down.
You are going to find feather bits around the house for years!
This entire project is utterly amazing! Firstly, from you: time, talent, effort, planning, and the devotion, dedication, and commitment of all of these to this project. Secondly, the materials: sturdy, reliable cotton organdy, hateful velvet, so many peacock feathers, at least a mile of bias tape, and four miles of thread. Just wow!
Your voiceovers always make me smile. I love seeing all the steps that go into your projects (especially the ones that don't quite work out!). Also, your rings are gorgeous.
I'm a fan of the more is more approach, and this looks sooo good
This is such an exciting dress! I'm looking forward to the complete look!.
I think the fact that you got that strange - but lovely - design to actually work and look cohesive and so beautiful is at least as mysterious as the motivation behind the design in the first place. Absolutely stunning.
I honestly can’t wait to see you wearing this dress.
It's so amazing! I love your idea of adding more of the iridescent fabric and stars to the bodice. The fashion plate doesn't show the front so it's all up to you, technically.
You are so creative and skilled. This is a triumph! The fabrics, feathers, design, alterations and finished product is nothing but amazing.
“Then the seam was whip stitched to the lining to make the extreme bulk more manageable, or at least a bit flatter. Coincidentally, this is also how I feel when lacing myself into a corset” IM- 😂😂😂
I think this dress is stunning and I hope you are feeling very proud of this accomplishment! The peacock feathers are so beautiful and the placement is perfection. Thank you for sharing this project with us!
To help with the threading elastic and to stop the catching and such I use a good quality Safety pin for this! Or baby diaper pins (depending on the size of what I'm threading😀)
BTW I LOVE THIS GARMENT! 💜💜💜
I've been traumatized by safety pins bending and getting stuck in the channels of waistbands! I've had to seam rip at least one out lol. Though that would have been a much better option for this lightweight fabric!
@@AngelaClaytonCostumery I have this lovely tapestry needle from my grandmother that I use for threading elastic. I don't think I've ever had to open a channel while using it.
I like to use a metal yarn needle for small elastics. Since they are smooth and rounded they don't catch and they have a really big eye since they are designed for yarn. Usually found with the crochet and knitting supplies.
@@AngelaClaytonCostumery you can buy bodkins specifically for threading elastic/ribbons.
i think this is one of the prettiest dresses i have seen in my entire life 🥺
For a project like this l don't think "to much" is possible. The dress is beautiful.
This is absolutely stunning! (And I'm sure if dressmakers in the 1860s had had access to elastic they'd have used it😆)
"I had to work slowly. Not enough to pin it first, just enough to be careful about it" 😂😂
The gradients on the bodice look great and the feather fringe is genius. I’m always impressed by your creativity and skill.
This dress is insane and I can’t believe someone is actually making it. I love the peacock feathers and can’t wait to see how the rest of it comes together!
props to you for taking on such an ambitious project, especially with only a partial reference to use! the result is so unique and gorgeous!!
This is just amazing. I just finished a little dress for my granddaughter with a lined bodice and a zipper, and I really struggled. I cannot imagine the skill you need to make this dress! Fascinating!
You need a model show of all your costumes and creations. So good Angela
Oh my god Angela the sudden SPARKS just made this whole project that much more metal
i recommend pulling your needle through with a pair of jewelry pliers when you have those super tough layers of fabric to get through
This dress is soo extra, the amount of time your nail polish changed throughout the video shows how long it took you to make it, also respect for not sending first bodice that you made, but found useless to all hells,😅 cuz I would, just the idea of creating a whole piece and then realizing it is not going to work, would've made me mad as hell. Your patience and control are amazing to me.😍😍😍😍😍🤘🖤👏👏👏👏👏
LOVELY it is such a pretty and inspired dress. And the headpiece turned out so so great, can't wait to see it all together
This was such a fun project to follow!
OMG!!!! This dress is gorgeous. Can y'all just imagine seeing this dress on the red carpet at the Met Gala. Can't wait to see it finished
I see a bit myself and you have truly inspired me to better myself at sewing and throw myself into such a really daunting project!
Oh Angela, you are an absolute delight!!
Lovely, lovely, heavenly. The gossamer sleeves are magical.
What a beautiful dress you are so talented, I love clothes from different eras and you're the one who can make them come alive from just looking at the page. I can just imagine you making beautiful dresses for different movies. Much love from Ireland 🤗🥰👍🍀
This is beyond everything I will ever sew! Such a stunning project, it's breathtaking!
Still amazing. Can't wait to see the finished product. So exciting.
‘And we all know that laziness is ok in private’ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love the feather fringe. The train is fabulous! Congratulations on finishing this mammoth project!
Loved watching this project progress! Even the things that didn’t work out. It’s nice to know that sometimes you don’t like the way things turn out either. And then that we can always find a way to work around it to something even better! It turned out so beautiful! Love it!
This is utterly insane. I love and support insane - especially at this level. Girl, there is no over the top when the top is that far out there!
I literally applauded you when i saw how you cleverly stitched the feathers to trim the collar! Wow! Gagged! Your are generous!
(Nail varnish fabulous as usual!)
That hand made peacock trim is a really impressive idea
oooooooooh!!! I can't wait to see the whole ensemble complete and modelled!! It's so beautiful, and I think you will look beautiful in it!
This is such an insane and gorgeous gown. You've done such an amazing job making this. I can't wait to see it complete with the headdress and veil.
Stunning and amazing dress. Can't wait to see you modelling it.
I can't wait to see you wear this! Love the way it has turned out.
This dress is looking so good so far!
Wow -- really looking forward to seeing how it all looks at the end!!
Finally! I’ve loved every part of this series.
They did have elastic in the 1860s. It was pretty crude, but it did exist.
This dress is so amazingly over the top! I love it! You did so good!
I enjoy watching your videos because you make garments I would never be able to afford nor have the patience to do. Especially the hand sewing that I cannot with my poor eyesight, You are someone who inspires my imagination,
I love it! I think stars in the hair would look lovely.
I am so impressed! Didn't think I liked the looks of it at first, but it's gorgeous. 😚😍💙
Thank you, so much, for the video. I absolutely can't wait to see you in this costume! Those peacock feathers are just amazing. The whole thing is amazing!!
Every time I see this dress
It looks magical
Amazing! Such detail and intricacy. Looks very much like the fashion plate.
I WANT THIS AS MY WEDDING DRESS!!! OH MY GOD! Angela this is AMAZING!!!
The Girl Who Wears Pants , dude! If you make your wedding dress, whether you follow this exactly OR change up the colors for your wedding, PLEASE include a link and share it, nodding to Angela Clayton!
I am just in awe at the things you create. Such talent!
What an amazing gown! Thank you, Angela, for showing the making of it. You are such a talented woman, and your perseverance is mind-blowing. By the way, you look very classy and beautiful in your closing talk. Greetings from New Zealand.
Incredible. I have loved watching this project come together. And it looks A- amazing!
As someone else said, more is definitely more with this dress. It looks fabulous and I cannot wait for the video on the headdress!!
Only you could make using a grinder glamorous lol. Sparks and sparkles from the diamond rings!!! I really like seeming how you have adapted new fabrics for use in this garment too. Looking forward to the sculpture "hat" video
What a beautiful and spectacular job. I loved it! Thank you for sharing your work with others.😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
The gown is stunning so pleased we got to see her construction
There is no way i could do this but i really enjoy watching you do it 😇
Such a whimsical dress!
Angela, you are so talented and courageous. The dress is amazing,
The dress is gorgeous! I can't wait to see the hat!
You are so delightful! Thank you for this excellent content. I can't wait to see how the whole look comes together.
That bow gives me such sailor moon vibes!
I really like your hint to cut curves to sew the nicely!

You: "so I had to make my own"
Strategically placed Michael's Ad: 😁
Wow! wow! Wow! This turned out amazing! You are so talented! I can't wait to see the whole garment with the headdress. I think Mr Worth would be very impressed! Best wishes from Down Under 🇦🇺🌸👗👠😎
This is absolutely stunning !!
I really want to see you wear that dress!! I know there's still a headpiece left but I just can't wait to see that dress be worn in all it's fabulous-ness.
So beautiful! Seriously, this is so stunning all together.
From the flower fairy- esque dress I first saw from you to now, you are so incredibly talented!
Yes I think it needs some stars on the bodice. It looks absolutely lovely so far, and I cant wait to see the final version.
Holy Herculean effort, Angela!! While this is far from my favorite Worth gown, your series of videos making it is definitely one of my favorites. I’m ever more impressed with each installment by the level of detail and ingenuity involved in bringing this gown to life. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
I'd say go for the stars on the bodice, but only use the tiniest ones. This looks absolutely gorgeous, and I've loved watching it come together. Also, your voiceovers are amazing.
She is Very good with her explanations and directions.
This is gorgeous!!! Also you explained out a lot of the misunderstandings I've had with piping, stays, and making a bodice. I've made 2 and they were rough
I wish you had showed the teal bodice with the skirt, but it looks lovely regardless
You're so amazing! this project is just insane by the amount of work and detail, it's truly impressive
I haven't watched it yet, but I am soooooo excited!
This is just epic! Also agree with your choice to go with the blue instead of the teal/green for the top. Excited to see the headpiece! 🦚🦚🦚
Absolutely gorgeous!!!!
This is the most remarkable garment I've ever seen anyone make, and I helped bead several recreations of Henry VIII's wives' dresses for a costume fair years ago.
wow the effort made in this video ♥️it’s incredible
This is stunning!! I love that you embarked on such an ambitious project and you did an outstanding job :) you have the most satisfying content to watch, I always know the result will be top notch x
It's such a wacky design, but it just works! I love it
