    Am I alone in finding it oddly satisfying when Angela is sewing several pieces after each other (such as the boning channels at the beginning of the video) on her professional machine and just.. whizzes through it? Soooo efficient..! 😍

    I know it would never be... a thing....b u t when I was watching this I was just thinking what it would be like if Angela was able to rock up in 14th century court in this dress. Would they think it was as magical as I think it does? Would they assume she was a VERY rich young lady? Look at those sparkles!!

    • @luminariel3765
      @luminariel3765 3 роки тому +23

      She would create a whole trend of paper thin metal rounds being sewn to fabric for sparkle! The sparkle would only last a season, but that's how often the very rich changed their gowns anyway. It would have probably lead to an entire fashion revolution :D

      Nothing like these purple colors would have been available in the 14th Century, and the silver fabrics and trims would have astonished people as well. All of that machine-made lace and sequins would have been mind-boggling to people of the time. And then of course there's all the machine stitching, which they would marvel over as well. This dress would have been a showstopper, that's for sure.

    I’ve been re-watching some of your older videos to get my ‘Angela Clayton fix’. Only to wake up this morning to a brand new video. This is absolutely brilliant. I’ve seen those type sleeves before and wondered how they made. I actually gasped in horror when you had to remake the bodice. I’m a quilter and know that these things happen but it’s admirable that you stayed the course. If they ever make a live-action Rapunzel they couldn’t find a more gorgeous dress. My wedding dress took twelve yards of silk shantung and I still remember the insane cost. Can’t image the price now compared to twenty years ago.

    You know what I love about your designs? Even though the materials, techniques and trim choices may not be as historically accurate as with other Costubers, but honestly, considering that historically clothing was used to signal wealth, beauty and status and there were probably so many noble women who loved thrills and sparkle and sequence just as much as you do, I'm convinced that if they would've had the access to the materials we have today, they would've gotten all out on them as well!
    So, you might not make "historically accurate" costumes, but I'm convinced that in spirit you are historically accurate ♥

    I was reading about the costume of the Devoniire fantasy ball and read about the queen Zenobia dress and immediately thought of you,
    The Duchess of Devonshire, as Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra, wore a magnificent costume. The skirt of gold tissue was embroidered all over in a star-like design in emeralds, sapphires, diamonds, and other jewels outlined with gold, the corners where it opened in front being elaborately wrought in the same jewels and gold to represent peacocks outspread tails. This opened to show an underdress of cream crepe de chine, delicately embroidered in silver, gold, and pearls and sprinkled all over with diamonds. The train, which was attached to the shoulders by two slender points and was fastened at the waist with a large diamond ornament, was a green velvet of a lovely shade, and was superbly embroidered in Oriental designs introducing the lotus flower in rubies, sapphires, amethysts, emeralds, and diamonds, with four borderings on contrasting grounds, separated with gold cord. The train was lined with turquoise satin. The bodice was composed of gold tissue to match the skirt, and the front was of crepe de chine hidden with a stomacher of real diamonds, rubies and emeralds and jewelled belt. A gold crown incrusted (sic) with emeralds, diamonds, and rubies, with a diamond drop at each curved end and two upstanding white ostrich feathers in the middle, and round the front festoons of pearls with a large pear shaped pearl in the centre falling on the forehead
    the dress still exists on display and is almost certainly paste gems but that's a lot of beading

    Beautiful! I remember you showing the silk when you did the fabric haul (I think?) and wow it really turned out great. And I think all nobles would be bedazzled to heck if they had access to sequins in the 16th century. Sometimes inaccurate materials help give an accurate idea of how people saw themselves, and if the portraiture is any clue, these folks definitely saw some major bling.

    Absolutely beautiful. I love all the details and the way you did the sleeves. All the little details made it look regal. The less full skirts, I would imagine makes it easier to maneuver and probably a little lighter. The color scheme is perfect.
