    I tell people this ALL the time. Gel works but it is not meant to moisturize. It's to help style. YOU must moisturize properly and the gel will enhance your already moisturuzed curls.

      Say one mo’ time for the people in the back!! Folks be like “gel makes my hair hard” and I’m like 1st.. it’s a gel. It’s supposed to get hard lol But if you’re hair is moisturized underneath once you break the gel cast you should be good to go!

    YAAAAAAAAAAS COUSIN!!!!! I sho hope folks come and watch this!!! Cuz this is exactly what I be telling ppl who swear against gels!!! I always tell ppl that their technique makes a big difference AND how they’re prepping their curls! In addition to like you said NOTHING can stand up to the longevity a gel yields!!! And finally the tid bit about the water...baaaaabay!!! Yes ma’am! You can’t just do that with a cream!

    • @FinallyAmber

    Rewatched this video and I must say you really are speaking facts. I tried to leave gel alone because I was concerned that it was thinning my edges due to the ingredients. However, other factors like tight buns play a role in that. But I do not get a hold with other products the way a gel holds it down. Also, when I only use a gel, I dont get moisture. Technique is key and it will be different for everyone. I'm just trying to master drying my hair (diffuser vs air drying)

But, I've already noticed how I like how long my curls stay a lot better when I use gel. Cousin!!!! Thank you for this video because it's the TRUTH!!! How well your hair is moisturized and clean before you style with gel can make the difference between a WNG that stays defined and moisturized for days and a tangled dry mess of a situation perched on your head after a few hours...For the first time yesterday, I layered some Maui Moisture on after my Paul Mitchell and then gel...gurl...TOTAL GAME CHANGER!! Had no idea how that I could use a little something paired with my Paul Mitchell until you schooled me! THANK YOU. Plus folks need to know that you have to let these leave ins absorb into your hair for a bit before styling..you can't just slap a bunch of stuff on low porosity hair quickly and expect a Christmas miracle.

      Yes! That Paul Mitchell is super light weight. I love that about it because it means that it pairs well with almost everything I use, but it also absorbs in my hair really fast so if I’m using something heavy, I definitely will get better moisture of I layer on a cream in between! 🙌🏾 it’s all about trial and error!

    OG Cousin in the house. I only use a leave in with a curling cream or mousse for my wash and gos and my hair lasts until wash day without refreshing. I wash my hair every two weeks with a sulphate shampoo and alternate protein or hydrating masques. I have been natural for only a year after years of relaxers and have never tried using a gel. My hair is in the 5 to 8 inch length range at this point so I guess I may try using a gel when my hair gets more length.

    • @twrendy9142
      @twrendy9142 4 роки тому

      My go-to combo is Kinky-Curly Knot Today leave-in + Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curly Magic gel + soaking wet hair. I don’t use any other creams or butters since my low porosity hair can’t take it. Then I sit under the drier. My wash n go lasts for about a week. If I need to refresh, I just add water and use eco styler gel (the clear one).

    What are some good gels to use besides Wetline and Eco? I think I’m allergic to those when using all over my hair. I can use them for edge controls. But allergies get the best of me applying all over my hair. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @arielrose6361
      @arielrose6361 4 роки тому

      I struggle with allergies too. Have you tried making flaxseed gel? Otherwise try kinky kurly curl custard. Down side is it seems to only mix with their leave in and it's pricey. I'd give the hold a 7 if eco was a 10 and wetline a 9

  • @georgezakhia125
    @georgezakhia125 4 роки тому +4

    I don't use gels because: they provide an extra step to my styling routine that I'm too lazy to deal with; my hair ends up taking forever to dry; and since the hold can be really strong, my hair can easily break when I try to detangle it (I detangle before I get in the shower to wash me hair)

    Great video! School’em! In real life this isn’t even an fair case, it is open and shut. Gel is necessary for the kinky and curlys doing wash n go’s. Personally, I love a good day 1,2 crunchy wash n go. Your hair looked really good.

      Listen!! Especially when you don’t have anywhere to go! A good crunch and letting get softer/bigger naturally will have your hair lasting 2 weeks! I did this in college all the time!

    People really need to understand we won’t all have the same wng. Some people think it’s like a perm rod set-if I use *this* color roller, *these* products, and *this* technique, then I’ll get *this* head of hair. Don’t work like that. You have to like your own fro and shrinkage to like your wng-it’s only a more defined version of that.

    No matter what technique I use my hair tangles so bad. 😢😠 I can wash my hair in twist and my hair still gets crazy tangled? Does a gel like argon oil eco styler preform as well as a heavier gel on your roots?

      I love the Argan Oil Eco styler! I haven’t used it in almost a year though 🤔 Have you had a trim recently?

      @@FinallyAmber it's been a couple of months. I'll get it done again. But most of the crazy tangles are at the roots I dont understand.

      I have a video on my channel giving a few of the reasons but the main reason can be your hair isnt clean enough before applying. Check the video out for more! 🤍

    Not a gel fan for my hair type. Hair milks style my hair just fine.

    My only issue is the build up and the fact that I have to wash my hair after about 2 days (the crunch is tolerable). I use a leave-in and a moisturizing cream for my high porosity hair and then the gel. Hair is beautiful but I simply don't have the time to re-wash my hair so soon.

      Hey! I touched on this about half way through the video. If you’re getting build up only two days after applying any gel, it’s honestly not the gel. It’s your technique or the state of your hair before applying. Most gels, especially alcohol free gels like the ones usually used for wash and gos are not going to cause build up that quickly. Either you haven’t found the right combination to pair it with (this causing an issue with how they behave together) or your hair wasn’t as clean as you thought it was before applying the gel. I have low porosity hair so I definitely understand this and have to make sure my hair is super clean before doing any kind of gel wash and go.
