Lol Joan was very cringe. But again... I think the point was to make her that exaggerated. On purpose. I do think her character had other things to her though, and if I had more time I would have thoroughly talked them though but she was intelligent, giving, and a great friend (most of the time lol). All the ladies were pretty insufferable in my opinion for different reasons, but honestly aren’t we all at one point or another? 😂❤️🌻

It wasn't just about having a man to complete her. She wanted a husband because she wanted a family and a two parent household rather than being a baba momma because that's best for the children. Joan's problem was that her approach towards relationships was terrible because of her insecurity and immaturity.

Joan is the worst character in my opinion. Her life revolves around finding a husband and when she does find a good man she sabotages the relationship and I’m upset her and William didn’t work out. I see myself in every girlfriend, though 😭

*UNPOPULAR OPINION* Ellis was the BEST man Joan had...he really “got” her. He knew that she was jealous of Toni,& loved her anyway. He was mature to “wish her well” when she cheated on him and got with Brock.
Ok so I've thought about this sooo many times over the years and especially watching it over again here's what I feel about Ellis. In *general*, he was definitely a good guy, and he cared for Joan... but he wasn't the good guy FOR Joan. 1, Ellis came with just too much baggage (and Joan has enough of her own lol). A whole NEWBORN son being born ON Valentine's Day AND the child'd mother clearly still not being over him... yeah... no lol That's a lot for ANY woman to deal with, let alone Joan. I think you have to know what your boundaries are in relationships and everyone isn't meant to be a bonus parent. I think what both Ellis and Brock did was show two sides of the same coin. The guy who gives you security (because Ellis showed that in the end he would KEEP showing up for her, which she needed... she needed that security) and the guy who gives you butterflies. Joan and Ellis were right. They were never truly *in love*... how could they be? They spent almost their entire relationship dealing with one issue after the other... they didn't even have time to go through the butterfly phase... and with Brock, she got those butterflies.. the enchanted love.. but they hadn't taken the time to get to know each other to ask themselves if they even wanted the same things other than being in love. As I've gotten older I've had both as well. The security and the butterflies. As the show did a good job showing, neither are sustainable for very long. The key is to find someone who gives you both... and I think thats what they were trying to do with Aaron and just didn't have the opportunity to finish what they started. He gave her the butterflies, but he also still continued to show up for her and let her know she was safe with him and their relationship. I truly loved how Girlfriends went far beyond surface things. SO much to think and ponder on every time you re-watch it!
Finally Amber I forgot about the baby mama, & you’re correct. They both provided different things that Joan needed! And Aaron had BOTH! This is why the show was so phenomenal, it made you THINK. SN: Ellis wasn’t cute(to me) 🥴...Thanks for sharing another perspective with me Cousin😘

I didn’t wanna say it 🤣 Ellis and that flat head be killing me softly every time 🥴🤣 Also... at best Joan would always be THIRD in his life... behind his kid, and then his career (because we see how that worked out on the red carpet lol). I just would love to see 55 year old Joan now and how her and Aaron are doing... IF they made it down the aisle 🤣🥴
Finally Amber Tracee Ellis Ross has an interesting perspective on where she thinks Joan would’ve ended up...They did an interview with Charlamagne The God & she told him what she thought current dat Joan would be like. I was like 🤔...Also, Toni was was supposed to do like Steve Carell did on “The Office” & come back for the wedding...The Type 9 in me NEEDS to see the show wrapped up. 😫😩😫
I tend to tune out of things that include Charlamagne these days ... but I definitely would love to hear Joan’s take! And yesss! I need and ending too! Just give me ONE episode man lol

Girl re watching this as a adult woman I get pissed how they are very pressed about this husband thing. The entire show revolved around men and some career things but I’m loving it. Joan is probably my love/hate character. They exaggerated her need for a man as maybe satire? I’m not sure but it pissed me off so much.
I think they definitely exaggerated her for satire... but sadly... it really do be that way with A LOT of women in this age group. 😩 When I think about how many social media posts, groups, conversations, LIVES revolve around getting a husband, keeping a husband, what's "wrong and right" in relationships, etc.... I stopped and looked around one day and... it's quite alarming 😩 If anything, I think watching this show as an adult may get women to re-evaluate how much they ARE making these things the center of our lives. It's definitely hard to watch at times when you've matured past that mindset!
Finally Amber see I’m still in my early 20s so right now it’s all about having fun and being selfish but I always asked “why does this stop at a certain age”. Why do I have to settle down once I hit my late 20s and early 30s. I hate how this is just the expectation for many because I honestly could never ever ever be this pressed about a relationship. Granted I’m still young but I honestly can say that’s just the mindset I’ll always have, I love myself so much so I don’t mind being by myself with my little dog!
Loved this show!! I identified with Joan because, I think she was in love with the idea of love. I think it's okay to be single and I think some of us, myself included on someone else's relationship
Yes! She definitely was in love with idea of being in love! My younger self identified with that so much as well! As you get older though you realize 1) Love is easy, maintaining healthy relationships is WORK! and 2) Loving YOURSELF truly is the first step to all that you want! Thanks for watching cuzzo!
It's tv show. It's for entertainment purposes. And there are lesson to be learn from it. I am going to keepi it positive. All these ladies was beautiful within their our right. They was professional even Lynn cause she was educated. This show just showed different women of colour with various backgrounds maneuvering through life in L.A. Most of the things they was doing I didn't do and wouldn't do but like I said it's a show. But i did see a little bit of myself in all the ladies. This show addressed a lot of interesting subjects that you just don't see in any shows today.

Girl I just was watching girlfriends I love the show because honestly I know a lot of Joans my aunts were some and even channels on UA-cam have Joans the whole I need a man concept is funny asf , sorry but women accomplish so much when a man is not around and most won’t even meet your husband until 30ish , I just love getting money and traveling , that’s why I love this show it’s a comic relief to me and it shows how much we have grown as women mentally . Lynn was a annoying character to me she’s a bomb scared to work but is a free sport to take risk in everything but stability ...Joan is only annoying because she based her worthiness on being married ....I like mya except the fact she married a bomb, I hate struggle love she deserves better , but she said she happy sooo... and Toni child’s.... actually my favorite character....she Loves the finer things in life but she need to let Greg green eyes go hunny ... I don’t care how in love a man makes you feel being broke is worse ...I also hate how the darkest woman is considered a gold digger on the show because she wants what she wants lol so yeah that’s all I got
