Stuck launching also used to occur in certain locations of CS: GO maps, which was incredibly annoying when you accidentally get stuck at the corner of a door, and then your legs get obliterated.
in tf2 there's a spot i know on badwater that you can kill yourself with in spawn (or ofc you can kill bind) - you'd only do it if you knew it was there as a little party trick but it's cool to be able to transfer knowledge
I had no idea funneling was a thing. That's one of those "yeah, we know you got it" quality of life mechanics that make really satisfying games. The devs of Dead Cells talk about that two. Much like Portal, the game has some cool movement, and they programed the game to have really lenient ledge grabs and other platform interactions so there's never a, "one pixel off" feeling with the platforming.
The funneling fucked me up when I tried to rush through 3rd boss cell, got stuck on a ledge because I was sure that dodges would cause me to not grab onto anything. The game is worth the money.
Dead Cells: puts a ton of effort into making the platforming smooth as butter Also Dead Cells: has the worst i-frame/animation desync for dodgerolling ever seen in a 2d platformer

Really cool vid! You explain the concepts well and the final shot at the end of a runner pulling it off is crazy. I didn't actually know about portal funnelling but I've definitely experienced it.
That stuck state has happened to me in Half-Life 2's "Route Kanal" chapter. There's a section before you get to the airboat outpost where you walk above a corridor on some corrugated sheets. I actually found myself wedged between the wall and a sheet, slowly descended before suddenly [CRUNCH].
Really great video! I totally forgot this was a thing and you explained it so well. You've also got a really great narration voice and would be excellent at doing more videos like this.
The stuck launch glitch is also present in some parts of TF2. Most notably, in BLU first spawn on pl_badwater, there's a pile of tires(?) and a handcart that you can crouch-jump into to trigger the glitch. This makes it possible to die from falling damage on flat ground, before the round even starts
This explains a really weird glitch I had once. I jumped while passing through a portal, but hit the wall a bit instead, then I get launched at light speed up, and out the other portal. At least that's what I saw.
I just remembered how busted Doom eternal speedruns are due to *almost* stuck launching. They get on a ledge, similar to the stuck launch (you can see the character moving very slowly) and they bind jump to scrolling the mouse wheel, and use the weapon wheel to slow down time, resulting in a few dozen jump inputs before actually launching off the ground, meaning you can out of bounds your way through about 1/2 the game
This is not really true. The mechanic that's allowing it is a support mechanic that makes it easier to not miss jumps by running off the edge, that allows you to use air jumps an without using up your 1 air jump while close to a ledge, combined with the fact that the scroll wheel allows you to produce inputs very fast, and the game doesn't cap the speed buff you get from jumping. Stuck launching is fully a bug.
Rhis mans the reason speedrunning looks so appealing to me, going in depth to the skips' roots and explaining all of it is like history class but its actually entertaining.
I really appreciate your scripts. I mean, It is difficult to write a youtube video script that is both informative and entertaining having consistency and reading it flawlessly. So, congrats man, and amazing videos!
3:56 in this section I just placed a portal under the gel tube in a way, that the gel hits the corner of the portal, and then it flies onto the upper part
Stuck launches seem to exist in TF2 as well: in Badwater's first BLU spawn, there's an object the player can jump against and get temp-stuck on. It's utterly useless, but you can take lethal fall damage before the game starts this way.
Nice video bro! I thought from the title of the video that you were going to talk about the crouching glitch which breaks the glass in the crazy box room
Fun fact: This is also possible in tf2 on the bad water basin map to the left is a dolly, if you get stuck on the corner and do this you can actually take fall damage just from a normal jump height, I'd say because it thinks you're falling but idk how it really works
stuck launching is probably a thing in every source engine game, but its only really practical in portal 2 because of the addition of the blue gel (i forgot the name of it) and because you don't take fall damage in portal (i believe that fall damage in source is calculated by velocity, and this gives you a lot of velocity)
It seems everyone else has my comments already said. But I'd like to add one more thing. Chell is pronounced like it is spelled. Not Shell, as in Michelle. Chell. As in Changing and Hell, but without the "anging" and "h".
@@JukeboxTheGhoul Of course not. But you'd figure after more than 10 years of confirmation of her name, as well as the quality of the content produced, that this one minor pronunciation would be correct. I have no other flaws with this video.
