Hi Judy! I am Japanese so I made Japanese style curry for 100 times but decided to watch Benji's version just to see if it was any different. We sauté all the meat & veggies with butter or vegetable oil first, then add water, boil them & when all the veggies get cooked, we add the curry cubicle things while turning off the stove. We mix them well, then turn the heat again while stirring more & put the cover & simmer it. More cook, the better it taste. Mom cooked for 2 days & it tasted definitely better than the one cooked for only few hours. I LOVE Curry in any version of other counties!!!! Spicier the better for me! 🙆 So many ways to make curry, & I hope you experiment with many other Japanese curry block, like "torokeru" curry in extra spicy. curry can be eaten with Udon & any pasta. I am sure Benji is familiar with Curry Pan? I miss those in Japan....😋. I think you did very well your presentation! I know you are not as confident as your Beauty stuff but I really enjoy watching you! I also love all your girls. They are funny & adorable! You & Benji are doing great job raising them. Take care & be well!
I'm not trying to be rude but when you were saying how Japanese people make curry, were you implying that that's how all Japan makes it? Benji is Japanese too I was a bit confused.
+Jessica25710 No, you are not being rude at all.^_^. Well, Benji's mom is Japanese, so he is half Japanese. He was born & grew up in America & his wife Judy who is not Japanese was making a curry. It's nothing wrong with her curry as there are many different version but I was born & grew up in Japan & that's how we learned in the cooking class in our school. I am pretty sure majority of Japanese people make it that way. In my home, mom also made different types of curry, topped with some crispy fried shrimps, or using ground beef/pork with just minced onion & garlic with curry sauce, etc. You should experiment & see what you like!(^^). I do like curry from Thai & India as well. You can make your curry mild or spicy. I personally love EXTRA spicy!!
I do the same like Judy and Benji. I dont want my potatoes and carrots mushy. But when Im cooking for the kids, they want the potatoes soft, that’s when I cook the veggies longer.
Mmmmm I'm eating it right now! I added minced garlic, about a teaspoon, paprika and hot sauce as a substitute for red chili flakes and green bell peppers and the meats frozen so its all veggies and allll delicious! Yummm! Thanks Judy!
Thank you Judy for this recipe! I went to my local Asian grocery to find the Vermont Curry but they didnt sell that brand. I bought a different brand and it is cooking now for tomorrow's dinner! So excited to eat this because my husband is from India and we love curries!! Thanks again!
To everyone worried about heat: Vermont Curry and Golden Curry both have block packages in mild, medium, and hot; Golden Curry also has an extra hot. They also have boil-in-the-bag versions, where you just have to cook your meat and extra vegetables (usually comes with potatoes and carrots) separately, then boil the package for ~10 min. As for where to get it: I've only ever seen mild in our local grocery stores and Walmart (near soy sauce). I found up to medium at Wegmans (Japanese section).
Judy, I finally tried a version of this. I picked up a jar of summer curry sauce from Trader Joe's. Whenever I've watched your family videos where you whip up this dish, I think "that looks good! maybe I'll try it sometime." Thanks for helping me branch out of my food comfort zone!!
prepared curry chicken and pumpkin rice for my husband today.it was awesome.love how you included the pepper seeds in it.. kind a similar to how i prepared it.
I would love to see how judy's mom or even Judy makes sinigang... I absolutely love it but feel like I haven't perfected it. Oh and this curry is soooooo DOOD!
This dish has totally become a staple in our home. It’s delish with chicken too,.. I like to switch it up from time to time adding things like (Judy’s favs) mushrooms 🍄! Thanks @BenjimanTV.
I made this today the way you made it and its was much better then how I normally make it. I also served it with brown rice and the pickles. Yummo, thanks again.
So I tried this the other day & omg it was AMAZING I will probably be making it again this coming week. Very filling & spicy, my hubby went in for seconds.
I don't even know how I lived my life without this dish!! I make it all the time. I would love to see more recipes up on benjimantv. But I bet its hard right now woth two more baby bears on the way!!
I just joined Judy,s time, and was loving all the food and I asked on one of your videos if anybody knew if you guys showed how. No one answered but just found this under new video! THanks guys keep it coming!
I love Japanese curry! thank you so much for uploading this video. I just cooked mine tonight and added broccoli and mushrooms as an extra. Taste soooo gooodd
omg it can be so many different things. I think the main thing is that it is a bit spicy and has kurkuma in it (I don't know if that is how you say it in english), but you can add whatever you like so that it makes the taste that you like. I make it with apples, wine and sweet cream, so that it is kind of sweet and sour (the apples and the onion thicken up the souce, so that you don't need those artificial sticks that Judy is using). That's the beauty of it, you can make it to suit your taste.
Today is August 14, 2018 and this’ll be our dinner for today! Still checking on this for reference. Thanks Judy and Benji! We’re cooking on a palayok! 😍
Making this right now and following along with your video :) First time making curry...newlywed here from North Carolina. So excited to have this for dinner and my husband is going to flip out! Thanks Benji/Judi...Between this and the vlogs you guys always find a way to brighten my day
@darren. that curry bricks are actually japanese stuff., bit spice add also asparagus and its bam! yummers! my aunt lives in japan whenever she come back and visit she make sure she'll bring that stuff its our fave! one of the best japanese food!
Saw the Vermont curry while grocery shopping and in my head I just screamed Judy! So of course I bought it! It's my little way I connecting with you guys haha
Yes, I agree. I also read somewhere that normal organic labels are just there to lure and sell consumers. As long as you're eating whole foods, does not need to be organic, you'll be as healthy as can be.
do more food videos! i each you blogs and every time i watch them i get hungry and want to eat what your eating haha. like your dinners and judy's morning smoothies!
Yay a simple Japanese recipe I think I can make and my family will eat, I've tried to make recipes like this homemade and it always turns out bad, I cant wait to try this one.. Thank you. =D
Thank you Judy!! I am going to make this tonight and I am so glad you guys have a vid on it because I've never made this before!!! Thank you, love you guys!!!
I made this for my husband last night and it was soooooo good!!! I made it with chicken and cheyenne pepper though instead of beef and crushed red peppers :-)
I've made this and it had a funny taste to it.. I think something in the curry mix gave a weird after taste. Just wondering if maybe it's just me but every time you guys made curry my mouth was watering and had to try it. Maybe, I'll try the hot version next time, the spicy-ness might cover up the weird after taste. Thanks Judy!!!
I would love an updated version of this. Benji mentioned that just adds more ingredients or changed up a few. I wanna know !!!

Guyanese curry (which is cooked with the curry powder instead and no carrots) is mainly eaten with roti. Now that is yummerz!
You should try it with sweet potatoes. I make mine with sweet potatoes all the time. Love Japanese Curry.
You guys inspired me to make this! 💜
2024 and I still go back to this recipe, so good!

Judy is a natural!
Created this tonight for my girlfriend and she loved it! I used Japanese curry from the Asian Section of my local Safeway
What cut of meat did you guys use? It looked so yummy.
I'm watching this today, 6 years after it was uploaded! 😄 Heading to the grocery store now!
Is curry similar to a beef stew.. Or what's the flavor like? It looks delicious
Looks so yummy. Going to try this week for dinner.
I was brave enough to make my curry.
I didn't have carrots but this video was a HUGE help.
