  • The early 2000s cult classic, but it has one glaring issue: ableism.

Since I jammed my finger really hard once, I know what it's like to be paralyzed. By transitive properties, I know what it's like to have terminal cancer! (J.J. Abrams logic)
Your rambly videos are good. Love it when you speak out against ableism, especially when it comes from the heart like this

[SPOILER] not refuting your points - but adding some context for you to consider. Locke wasn’t always disabled, and the way he became disabled was traumatic. So, I do agree that it’s probably ableist that his biggest fear is being paralyzed, but there was an extremely traumatic event that caused his disability that he will always associate with his disability.

Sure he definitely had negative connotations about disability before he became disabled though how the show handled it wasn't great (especially in his first flashback episode and how it was basically ableist trauma porn on "oh look at how sad his life is because he is disabled"

As someone who finished Lost last month and did thoroughly enjoyed it, it definitely has problems with ableism. Like John's flashback episode was basically just misery porn. Plus the ending of the show didn't help things either (although the ending overall wasn't as bad as it is made out to be)
Also to add before I delve into more of my thoughts, the work environment behind Lost was quite toxic. There's an article called Lost Illusions which delves into the racism and bullying that happened on set. Even Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse were interviewed on stuff that they participated. While neither were perfect in their responses Lindelof had a better response of at least trying to hold himself accountable and succeeding any recollections of harm he caused to the people he harmed even if he doesn't remember it (which honestly with how the industry can be isn't surprising as in Hollywood toxicity has throughout history been normalized, even Lindelof admitted that) while Cuse just took the "deny deny deny" approach
SPOILERS For The rest of the show Post-Season 2
After the Man in Black takes the form of John he talks about John so horrendously too saying how "pathetic" he was and how sad his life was. Sure you can argue that John did not have a happy life even before he became disabled and the Man in Black is obviously a villain (like he calls Claire crazy even though he spent 3 years lying to her, manipulating her and gaslighting her and then has the nerve to call her crazy?!?). Plus the personal Heaven the Oceanic Survivors made where they had him accept being disabled but then he ends up getting the surgery and he can walk again.....that did not help matters.

Just curious, do you make decent money making these UA-cam videos. Because if you do, I might have to give it a shot. Getting paid to sit and cry/complain/pout about trivial things seems really easy.

Hardly any UA-camrs make money. I’m not crying or pouting.

Also, is it trivial? One of the ways people learn about disability is through the media. When the media is full of ableist misconceptions, it can create ableist people.

@@CryAboutItLoser419 Wow you must be fun when you are watching commentary channels, or in general when someone has an issue with anything.
Love also that you are the self proclaimed arbiter on what is or isn't trivial or an issue.
