My ferrets have been free roaming for 2-3 days now, they've been much happier and calmer, my new lil girl who was very anxious has bonded with me so much more since. They still play and have their crazy moments but now they can also sleep on my lap or follow me💕next step, raw diet!😁
@@kandstube6475 you can't necessarily. Now trying raw and I've found they do it less then when on kibble and over time they usually pick a couple corners they like (my girls only use 2 spaces now). Can put toys or bowls in the corners you don't want them to go in, also with puppy pads they can sometimes miss so I plan to get low pan litter trays so there's no mess😊

Ashley I love this comment. There’s nothing wrong with being self aware. We all have those times where it’s hard to dedicate what we need to to our pets ! All that matters is we work to a solution to better their quality of life.
I believe that animals kept in cages/tanks are more neglected since they are not like a dog who are constantly around you. Free roaming is something I would totally do.
Blake K that’s a really generalized statement that is simply untrue. if you’re speaking of lager animals such as rabbits & ferrets they absolutely cannot be kept in a cage all their life. but for small animals such as hamsters, mice, and reptiles a large tank with enough enrichment as well as interacting with their owner daily is more than enough
@@piercefeliciano2103 I put puppy pads in all the corners I want them to go to the bathroom in. All other corners, I put blankets or pet beds to deter them. You can also use toys like cat cubes or cardboard boxes in the corners you don’t want them using! I also put their tube behind the couch so they can’t poop back there. Just think like a ferret: anywhere that’s a corner or a dark hidden place, they will want to poop there. Also when they wake up, they will go to the bathroom within 15 minutes. I watch them when they wake up and direct them to puppy pads until they go. Hope this helps!

People who say they can’t free roam when they’re home are making excuses. I was like this too until I bit the bullet and did it. You guys, they literally sleep for hours and they are so much more calm when they’re out for most/all day. You may have to clean up a mess or two a day but it’s so worth their quality of life. The prices on these tiny cages are ridiculous! Idk about the US, but here in the UK, you can buy the petplanet rat and ferret cage for about 200 dollars, and it's almost the same size as a double ferret nation! There are also other similar options, but this was the first one that came to mind. Maybe it's just me, but i find it incredible that, for the same price, you could either get an appropriate cage, or a pathetically inappropriate cage, and people don't ever say anything about this.
Ever since I've had ferrets (about 12 years now) they've only known free roaming. It broke my heart to cage them when I went to work and was constantly looking for ways to ferret proof my (then) apartments and now, my home. I'm proud to say they have true free roam of the whole house when I'm gone. It did take some real effort (I went through five or six fence iterations alone) and some monetary investment, but it was worth it. They are VERY smart animals and can figure out ways into trouble, so it takes time and patience...but keep at it. They'll appreciate the effort. Also, for those of you considering a ferret (or, more recommended, two or more), they are part of the weasel family. They aren't rodents. They have high energy and need room to get up to speed. It keeps them healthier to have open spaces, stairs and multiple obstacles to negotiate. They're creative thinkers and have curious minds too...a wheel and a water bowl is not gonna be sufficient mental stimulation. Please, don't cage your ferret(s). Or, if you need to to keep them safe, please be well on the way to proofing your place for their release into the great wide open. They'll love you for it. Nothing against rat, mouse and hamster/gerbil owners, if I was one, I'd find a way to free roam them too. Happy ferreting!
We are 100% free roam and these two still sleep aaaaaalot. They are very calm. I have owned ferrets prior to my current ones and they were never this chill. I caved my previous ferrets for 8 hrs while I was at work. I’m more knowledgeable now.
After watching this video I learned that what I was doing was wrong and figured out why my little guy tried to rip his cage apart. I cleaned up my bedroom and made it ferret safe and starting today he’s going to free roam unless I’m asleep or out of the house. He’s been out for 6 hours now and I can already tell he’s going to be happier.

My ferret currently gets 6 hours out on week days, I’m still in school so she is put up when I’m not home and at night for safety reasons, and is out for roughly 13-14 hours on weekends as long as I’m home all day (which I usually am), once again she is put up at night. She hasn’t fully adjusted to it yet because it was a recent change but I’m looking forward to seeing a good result!
My babies roam free my room all day while I’m home, they get put up when it’s eating time, overnight, and when I’m not home. I don’t let them free roam the whole house because they would be cat food in seconds, one of my cats is pure evil.

Yes, you still need to let them out. Before letting them out, wash your hands and face and disinfect anything you touched. It will lower the risk of them catching anything, but still be aware of any changes in their behavior.
Due to having 3 medium sized dogs[they are indoor-outdoor dogs], I'm not 100% able to free roam my ferret, as she is terrified of them. But I let her out every single time she wakes up from a nap, and I make it a point to let her free roam the room her cage is kept in during the day while I am home.
My furbabies cage is almost always open. I only lock them up when I 100% know nobody will be home to supervise them for extended periods of time. I'm home-schooled, so I kinda only leave my house for the essentials & never for longer than 3-4 hrs if my furs are caged.
My ferret, Wyatt, basically gets play time when he wants. We let him out about 3-4 times a day for about 2hrs apiece. If I'm off work or have no plans he's basically free roam for the day. I do need to upgrade his cage. I want the ferret nation and when I do get it I will get my Wyatt a buddy or 2
I made a ferret room. It's my living room that I gated off and it's all half walls around it. They love it. I do let them run around the whole house a few times a week. I can't block off my basement. It's my pellet stove it and I can't have them down there. My 2 ferrets get out of there double critter nation at 630 am n don't go back in till 800pm n have a huge huge room to there self with there have toys tunnels ball pit.. My babies are getting their own bedroom when I move in the spring! They get alot of free range time as is but I'm hoping to let them have their own room so they can roam freely in their room while I'm in class. I notice when they get free roaming time they use up so much energy and they sleep in races that they are happy in, like my bed!
My ferrets try to get into my geckos tanks my albino actually ate one and it’s very stressful She also try’s to bite my dog so it’s so hard to train her and I can’t trust them by themselves And I also can’t let them be by themselves in any room mostly because they either have poisonous Snakes/lizards they also love to bite shoes I honestly don’t know what to do with them :[
Iv had my 2 ferrets for over a month and they've been free range just got one more I have a songmics cage with no roof it's pretty good actually from Amazon but everytime I try to put them in it they just scratch and scratch cuz there so use to being out .. ! I prefer free range for sure and yes cages are quite expensive do your ferrets use the litter box ? Mine don't and use pee pads

My Rose is in when at work... I live in a bachelor that is shared with two orange male cats one her age four Sid and Max who is fifteen. I Ferret proof and have tons of play toys and cat trees tunnels.... I have two litter boxes plastic corner with metal grates... I use Bounty Towel... A rat two storey they are like a ferret nation just smaller bars.... Just to let all know ferrets SLEEP AND NEED 17 HOURS Ferret for Dummies is a great book and a FERRET vet is a must.... hard to find but reg vets have no clue.... Just a heads up yep ferrets are litter trainable. Train is a loose word..... in her home... no prob... outside it WELL..... she does not go on or under the couch well not often.... she goes beside the box or she goes in without me telling her.... it’s hit or miss with ferrets.... clean box or not... ferrets NEED to go every two hours.... remember it’s not their fault.... please do NOT HIT it’s cruel they don’t understand and will become fearful and may unlearn what they do know.... just say NO put them in the box... scruff gently as momma would.... it has to be right away.... and praise them like crazy when they go in the box.... I'm a first time ferret owner with two sweet baby girls, who have been with us for about a month now. We started letting them free roam almost full time after about a week, and it's been great for them. They wake up, I let them out. They only go back in when I leave or before bed. I leave the cages bottom door open in case they need back in for litter, and sometimes they put themselves away for a nap in there...although they seem to prefer under my dresser, or my kid's laundry pile. XD I have had great difficulty keeping them out from under the dishwasher, though, if anyone has tips on that?

Man, this video was eye-opening. I have a boy of 9 months. He was sitting in cage for almost all day until he was neutered, now he is free roaming (minus time I am not at home or at night), but he is getting bored pretty quickly. 1-1.5hr is his time of play, then he just does nothing, lying on floor and yawning. I try to change his toys every noun and then, but he doesn't seem to care. I live alone and have one pet. Is he just lonely or he got used to cage life?
I don't actually own a ferret but how long do you keep the cage open to give him free roam time? 1.5 hours isn't long enough at all for free roam, but I may be misunderstanding what you mean! I have no experience with this unfortunately but maybe he wants extra playtime with you, since it seems like you don't have another ferret, he may be lonely!! You could probably play with him and it might help. Again, I don't have real experience with ferrets but from research that might be it? Good luck with him though!
I want to free roam my ferrets so bad!!!! I just finished remodeling and decorating their room. I just have some big problems. I adopted my boy ferret at 4 years old and I can tell his owners didn't do anything with him nor let him out. He doesn't want to use the litter box/ diapers for his poop. He is also very selfish and would bite the cat and my other ferret not in a playful way. I'm scared he'll have a hold of my cat or ferret and I won't be home to stop it.
hey i live on a farm and my parents dont want to let the ferrets free roam so do you think just my room would be fine with me take them out of my room for an hour or two or should i try to convinse my parent to ferret proff the whole house (we have lots of places them could get out of and thats why my parents want them to stayt in my room) but my room is pretty big

I think the ferret nation isn't even a good cage to begin with. Seem more like cages for rats and other small animals that climb in the wild . Ferrets like to burrow under ground so I really don't understand the ferret nation.😂😂

My 2 ferrets get out of there double critter nation at 630 am n don't go back in till 800pm n have a huge huge room to there self with there have toys tunnels ball pit.. I am working to switching them to raw and order from where you do it's going to be work because they won't touch raw because the person who had them had them on cat food.. Love your videos
Is one room simply dedicated to the ferrets enough for them to spend all their time in? Provided they get a lot of enrichment and toys in that one room.
I'm so happy to know that I have the double ferret nation cage, I dont even have ferrets I have two degus in it but I was considering buying an other one for a ferret possibly tro ferrets
My ferrets don't have a house they live free roam around the house like a dog.
Me buys 6ft cage with 5 big levels that they spend barely any time in for $200 and then sees tiny cages for $198 that’s so bad!!!
I only have a small cage for like when I get a new ferret to keep them separate for a small time and sometimes a time out
i’m very scared that my huge dog will step on my 2 ferrets once i get them. i was thinking if i let them out all day even when i’m gone at school i could make a diy diper but i’ve been reading about it. i don’t think it’s super good for them. i really want my mom to know that ferrets are just like cats and don’t have to be caged up but she thinks that they do. but because there mine, i’m going to let them roam all over the house but i’m really scared and worried that my dog will step on ollie or daisy. yes i already have names for them😂 i’m sorry this is so long i just really wanted to thank you for all of the helpful videos you’ve made about ferrets. it makes me really happy to know that you don’t need a cage for ferrets. ❣️✨
My babies are getting their own bedroom when I move in the spring! They get alot of free range time as is but I'm hoping to let them have their own room so they can roam freely in their room while I'm in class. I notice when they get free roaming time they use up so much energy and they sleep in races that they are happy in, like my bed!

My ferrets try to get into my geckos tanks my albino actually ate one and it’s very stressful
She also try’s to bite my dog so it’s so hard to train her and I can’t trust them by themselves
And I also can’t let them be by themselves in any room mostly because they either have poisonous
Snakes/lizards they also love to bite shoes I honestly don’t know what to do with them :[
Iv had my 2 ferrets for over a month and they've been free range just got one more I have a songmics cage with no roof it's pretty good actually from Amazon but everytime I try to put them in it they just scratch and scratch cuz there so use to being out .. ! I prefer free range for sure and yes cages are quite expensive do your ferrets use the litter box ? Mine don't and use pee pads
I try not to keep my ferret caged in but for right now I have to. Just! Until I get the ac unit installed upstairs
Do you have a video on introducing other animals. I have 4 rescue ferrets and I can’t think of a good way to introduce my dog they free range the whole house accept from the living room and kitchen because of the dog but I want them to go everywhere.

My Rose is in when at work... I live in a bachelor that is shared with two orange male cats one her age four Sid and Max who is fifteen. I Ferret proof and have tons of play toys and cat trees tunnels.... I have two litter boxes plastic corner with metal grates... I use Bounty Towel... A rat two storey they are like a ferret nation just smaller bars.... Just to let all know ferrets SLEEP AND NEED 17 HOURS Ferret for Dummies is a great book and a FERRET vet is a must.... hard to find but reg vets have no clue.... Just a heads up yep ferrets are litter trainable. Train is a loose word..... in her home... no prob... outside it WELL..... she does not go on or under the couch well not often.... she goes beside the box or she goes in without me telling her.... it’s hit or miss with ferrets.... clean box or not... ferrets NEED to go every two hours.... remember it’s not their fault.... please do NOT HIT it’s cruel they don’t understand and will become fearful and may unlearn what they do know.... just say NO put them in the box... scruff gently as momma would.... it has to be right away.... and praise them like crazy when they go in the box.... Just a thought..... Bounty under your stove and fridge bottom... pee runs under..... imagine my shock the first time 😝 All the best from Rose 🌹 my first ferret who four year old now. Great videos....

I'm a first time ferret owner with two sweet baby girls, who have been with us for about a month now. We started letting them free roam almost full time after about a week, and it's been great for them. They wake up, I let them out. They only go back in when I leave or before bed. I leave the cages bottom door open in case they need back in for litter, and sometimes they put themselves away for a nap in there...although they seem to prefer under my dresser, or my kid's laundry pile. XD
I have had great difficulty keeping them out from under the dishwasher, though, if anyone has tips on that?

Man, this video was eye-opening. I have a boy of 9 months. He was sitting in cage for almost all day until he was neutered, now he is free roaming (minus time I am not at home or at night), but he is getting bored pretty quickly. 1-1.5hr is his time of play, then he just does nothing, lying on floor and yawning. I try to change his toys every noun and then, but he doesn't seem to care. I live alone and have one pet. Is he just lonely or he got used to cage life?
I don't actually own a ferret but how long do you keep the cage open to give him free roam time? 1.5 hours isn't long enough at all for free roam, but I may be misunderstanding what you mean!
I have no experience with this unfortunately but maybe he wants extra playtime with you, since it seems like you don't have another ferret, he may be lonely!! You could probably play with him and it might help.
Again, I don't have real experience with ferrets but from research that might be it? Good luck with him though!

I want to free roam my ferrets so bad!!!! I just finished remodeling and decorating their room. I just have some big problems. I adopted my boy ferret at 4 years old and I can tell his owners didn't do anything with him nor let him out. He doesn't want to use the litter box/ diapers for his poop. He is also very selfish and would bite the cat and my other ferret not in a playful way. I'm scared he'll have a hold of my cat or ferret and I won't be home to stop it.
Well, most people put their ferrets up while they're not home for easier supervision. That way you can watch them.

hey i live on a farm and my parents dont want to let the ferrets free roam so do you think just my room would be fine with me take them out of my room for an hour or two
or should i try to convinse my parent to ferret proff the whole house (we have lots of places them could get out of and thats why my parents want them to stayt in my room) but my room is pretty big
my ferrets i feel bad for my dad doesn't believe me that shampoo and stuff is bad for them also i dont have a door my house is no where near ferret proof and i have the first cage that you did i feel bad its from the previous ownor who was a teacher and they got about 30 mins of play a day, and they are only aloud out of the cage when im in my room cuz my parents took my door away cuz i shut it too much so i have a baby gate and meko my male ferret can climb the gate and my parents refuse to give me my door back

I think the ferret nation isn't even a good cage to begin with. Seem more like cages for rats and other small animals that climb in the wild . Ferrets like to burrow under ground so I really don't understand the ferret nation.😂😂
I will be getting a ferret very soon and planning to leave him free roaming when I’m at work (I come home for a hour inbetween 8 hour shift) but I’m worried about the litter training will I have to put pads in every corner? Or will he choose one place like a cat litter box?

I was wondering how or if I’d be able to send you a picture of it somehow to get your ideas on if it’s a good cage or not. Also my ferret would be out most of the time and would only be in his cage during school hours.
