My ferrets have their own room and they love it, but if you decide to free roam your ferret you will need to ferret proof like crazy. Here is a video on ferret proofing: ua-cam.com/video/6lsys6GhmOs/v-deo.html

You're house both terrified me by the messiness but also made me feel like I wanted to roll around and get comfy.... But from a guinea pig lady to a ferret lady... Love that your Ferrets have an amazing life! People are always shocked at the huge castle I have in my living room for my three little piggies! It's just what we do for the love of our animals.
    Enjoyed the video!

😂 Their room is always a giant heap of crazy. They have more liners, blankets and hammocks than they have space. I am redoing their room after Christmas.... hopefully (if I can find time) and I’m also hoping to get add more storage. I had another dresser in there, but I was worried they would somehow hurt themselves, so I moved it.
And your right people are shocked at how much stuff they have and that I gave them their own room. But I just want them to be happy and not stuck in a cage while I’m working all day.

That’s so awesome!! We just had our yard fenced in for the dogs and I’m hoping to add run for the ferrets soon. I have pet tents and play yards for the ferrets, but I can’t leave them alone in those and they don’t provide as much space as I would like. I really want to give them a bigger space to play outside and for longer periods of time than they have now.

No free range here. Its absolutely impossible to free range at my house because of the way my house was built. Its ridiculous. But I make sure she gets out atleast 6 hours a day but I always shoot for more and I do it about a hour and a half at a time because she usually gets tired after about a hour and a half

My ferrets have their cage open for 12 hours and they are in the cage from 10pm at night till 10am the next day. It’s my schedule. Sometimes they go in the cage a little later depending on me and them. I am with them since I’m a caregiver. When they sleep I get stuff done. If they sleep outside the cage during the day it’s fine. When they are awake I’m with them. They are in my living room. My living room looks like a ferret fortress lol. I have a lot of hammocks and places for them to play and sleep in their cage for the overnight. My ferrets are use to my schedule. They are ready to go when I’m coming down the steps. They play for about two full hours and then crash lol. They also alter their time waking up and get individual time with me. It’s nice for them. So far so good.

I've had 9 ferrets over a 30 year time span and I've never owned a cage, I can't even stand to see a Gerbil in cage, let alone a bird. I also leash walk mine every single night for 8-10 blocks and I also take my ferret to the bars with me.

That’s awesome! I love taking my babies outside and they love to be out there. I definitely can’t imagine keeping them in a cage, I had to the first year and a half I had them, but my goal was to get them their own space that wasn’t a cage as quickly as I could.

I been having my cinnamon baby for 7 months and all this time he has been cage free 😃 he sleeps where ever he wants, he goes where ever he wants, basement, first floor, kitchen, second floor, bathrooms, and all of our rooms, climbs beds on its own in the night time .. He's part of the family. He lives in this His house. Yes my house is ferret proof. & yes he poops where ever he wants, constantly cleaning. But I believe he's happier. His my baby.

I want to do something like that but in a room and set up like a large almost playpen around the perimeter of the room so he can’t slide under the closet door or hurt him self on the heater. But I’m not sure how to go about it and how I’d be able to keep a eye on him at night

I have 3 ferrets, Lola(2yrs), Ari(4yrs), and Shelby(1yr). They have the following cage... almost. I couldn't find the actual cage on google but its like the following on except 5 times taller with many more bedding, food/water dishes, and levels images. They have a cat sized litter box covering almost half of the bottom of it and I have blankets covering the trays for padding. The bottom level(with the litter box) only has two stacked pillowcases. Mostly because I don't normally expect ferrets to sleep beside a litter box... but guess what... they sleep there anyways. Well... mostly just Shelby. And it's not consistent, just often. The other two don't sleep there much. But why would they sleep down there with so many other cozy spots and hammocks to sleep in further away?

I know this probably isn’t the best place, but I’m looking for a little bit of help. Around Christmas time my daughter had wanted a puppy so we were going to buy her a puppy for Christmas. We went to the local pet store and when we were walking in we saw the small animals section and in this little 5 gallon tank there was a teeny tiny kit and I immediately knew that we couldn’t leave her there. I spoke to the worker there and ask questions about her they said she was about a month and a half old which I thought was very young but they then mention she was from Marshall’s so that made sense because marshals is just a money making machine with no interest for the health of their animals, but I’m getting off topic anyway they said that ferrets generally didn’t sell so she probably be there for a few months before she went to a home at least. We just couldn’t leave her there since I had had ferrets when I was younger I knew that that is no way for them to live. Fast forward to now we’ve had her for about a week and we brought her to the vet the vet says she’s perfectly healthy, but she sleeps a lot like almost all day and when she is up it’s mostly at night when I shouldnt say night I should say 2 o’clock in the morning to about four in the morning. I’ve tried to get her on a schedule where she is up when we are up but that has not worked out. I cannot let her free roam just yet because our house isn’t fully ferret proof since we were not expecting to bring home a ferret . It’s been a long time for me so I’m quite rusty but is there anyway to help I guess sleep train her? Where we can get her on a better schedule where she is up with the family during the day and sleeping at night I know they are normally nocturnal animals but my other two switched their schedule when I was younger to be up when we were up. Also I have built her obstacle courses around the house and a I guess you would call it sensory bin that she can go play where I put sand and long grain rice and water in for her to play with she has no interest in any of that or any of the thousands of dollars of toys that I bought lol, it seems all she wants to do is hide. I’ve tried cat toys on the stick to try and engage her but she just sits like a super sad baby and I know she went through a traumatic experience over at the pet store but has anybody or you personally experienced a situation like this and how did you fix it. We brought her home to give her a better life so anything I can do to do that for her I am willing to try anything. Thank you in advance hopefully for all of your suggestions lol.

Ferrets are not nocturnal animals, they're crepuscular, meaning dawn and dusk animals. Ferrets adjust to their owners schedules and routines because they want to be with them tons. Give her as long as she needs to get used to your routine and schedule and she will thrive with you and your family. Ferrets are highly intelligent and extremely social so they love and enjoy being with their human or humans and with their own kind (ferrets) so while she is a baby, get her a sibling or two. She will be extremely joyful from that and also at least 8 hours of free roam time everyday. This will exhaust her, as well as playing and exploring with her siblings. She will go to bed happy, exhausted and peaceful and start adjusting to your life.

My girl is in my room. Im working on ferret proofing so she can be out most of the day but the way our home was built makes it very very hard. I had to buy these rubber things bought for the bottom of a door to keep adrift out to put around the bottom the vents around my room because she could squeeze in and get hurt and I had to buy alot of them. Luckily so far she hasn't tried to chew on them an now she can't get under anymore. I just have to figure out to block her from getting behind my dresser and a way to put everything up with cords and she should be good to run about 12 hours a day if not more as long as I'm home. Plus I have other animals so my room is safest for her and its a Decent size

My ferrets have their own room with a ferret nation cage. Their door to their cage is always open allowing them to go in & out whenever they please. Their room has so many blankets, beds, tubes, even home made boxes for them to Rome in. I allow them to free range around the house 5-12, fall asleep around the house, and put them back in their room.
I used to leave my ferrets in their cage, closed, for long periods of time, for example the whole night.
Now that I try to put them in the cage closed, one of my ferrets In particular tries his hardest to get out.
I feel his behavior has gotten bad having to be in the cage.
Ideally, my solution is to just start putting them in the cage more, so they get used to it again. But I’m afraid he will hurt himself trying to get out.

I have a similar routine, I only lock mine in the cage when I’m cleaning or if I am dong something in their room that requires their room door be open without my gates up. Mine sleep in their cage by choice, but they definitely don’t want to be locked in, which I’m ok with since they are in their own room and I have a camera in there and I am always checking on them when their not out with me.
