07 R56 Mini Cooper S part-8: First start reveals a low oil and fuel pressure issue

After completing the engine rebuild on my 07 R56 Mini Cooper S project, the first start revealed issues with both oil pressure and fuel pressure. The red oil light indicator came on after 10 minutes of running the engine. Therefore I decided to perform an oil pressure test. Oil pressure test is not conclusive yet as my Harbor Freight oil pressure test kit came with a brass fitting that had poor threads and partially stripped the threads on the cylinder head. So the fitting had a poor seal and oil did leak out which caused the oil pressure reading to appear very low (10 psi idle). Will re-tap the hole on the cylinder head and exchange the oil test kit at harbor freight for another one that has a perfect brass fitting and will test the oil pressure again to get more accurate reading.
Also note that the engine idles kind of rough. It actually improved as I ran the engine more, but due to oil pressure issue I do not want to run engine very long. My OBD2 scanner revealed fuel rail pressure (FRP) at 1600kpa (232psi). I read high pressure fuel pump should be around 700psi and issues with poor idle, difficulty starting (which I don't really have), and P0190 code for fuel pressure sensor levels all point to faulty high pressure fuel pump?? So I will order new one to see if it will make a difference.
Also you can hear loud ticking or clicking noise from vacuum pump area. I saw on a a FCP Euro video clip that vacuum pumps tend to make some form of noise, but if it completely fails it will seize up. This will cause the exhaust camshaft to also freeze while rest of engine continues to turn causing the exhaust cam sprocket bolt to snap, timing to go out of wack, and your exhaust valves to become damaged. I NOW BELIEVE that this may have been the root cause of my timing chain failure as you can review in part-1 of this series, I initially found the exhaust cam sprocket detached from the camshaft and the bolt snapped off too. So I will buy new vacuum pump as well.
Almost there in the project. Engine does run and is in time so the reassembly phase went successful. Now just need to sort out some bad components, replace them, and recheck the running condition afterwards to see if all issues are fixed. Shipping times for parts are horrendous right now due to covid19 pandemic and was why it took soo much longer to rebuild the engine than I was expecting and these vehicles are hard to come by in the wrecking yards forcing me to buy everything online which cost more and delay more time.

Sooooo. Why remove the vanos sensor when it literally is the controller for the phasers which tell the car to advance or retard the timing.. I'm pretty sure your lucky the car is natually-mechanically in good shape timing wise. Otherwise you could have seriously blown that motor.

Well said Rob, I bought like an idiot..GARBAGE /JUNK..Note: I bought more than 180 vehicles in my life time and this 2007 Mini S turbo is a money pit and still unable to get the emissions monitors to set ??
I just may have to junk it ?? Can't smog it California also sucks..lol
