  • I'm fairly certain this is a HPFP issue.. but most of the other cold-start issues appear to be of the car dying immediately upon startup. Hopefully I'll have another video posted up shortly with a resolution.
This is a 2007 MCS with the JCW Stage 1 kit and a little over 60,000miles.

i had the same problem 4 years ago. mini replaced the pump at 120k at no charge, now i have the same problem at 159k but they won't replace the pump for free because it's been over 2 years. it's only 38k miles since the last one. they want $2300, so i start it each day with your throttle solution.

Did you find root cause? My 2007 Cooper S Convertible experienced the same issue this morning.

My 2008 S R56 was doing this for almost a year. When it does that, turn it off then back on. Then it would do OK. Got worse over time.

I had the same issue on my 2008 mini Cooper S,it Had low high volume feel pressure, first start off replacing the fuel filter inside the gas tank behind the passenger side, there’s many videos out there on how to replace the fuel filter, I end up replacing the fuel filter and replace the high-pressure fuel pump with a dealer item pump, be advised that Many cheap aftermarket high-pressure fuel pumps are defective out of the box

Ive had rough cold start idles, lasts about 20secs or so, 20,000kms on the clock, that engine light would come on which means its in limp mode to protect the engine, you wont go faster than 80kms/hr and RPMs are sluggish. Turn the car off then on again removes it. The code I was getting was a Coolant temp sensor 1 Circuit low - P0117.

@simpleinseattle I finally took the car to the dealership this week. It was the high pressure fuel pump as I had suspected. Fully covered under warranty. Good luck with your MINI.

My cooper does this too, but it’s after a short amount of driving. Like maybe an 1/8th mile at most

I had this issue on a non turbo R56. Removed oil cap while it was running and put it back, problem went away. Next time it's cold, if the issue only presents itself close to idle but not when revving, then it's a vacuum leak or something of the sort. I tried the dipstick and remove some vacuum lines to see if the issue would go away but it didn't until I did the oil cap for some time then put it back and it was fine after that.
