I also get headaches from flourescent lights, totally relate to that! I agree about people not understanding the struggles that we go through as highly sensitive people. If they could just see what’s going on in our heads! 😇🤯
I found out about HSPs from my therapist and a documentary she suggested a few months ago, and we think I am one. Since I'm in college (started years later than most), I was curious how other HSPs experience college. This video was very informative and interesting. I related to quite a few things that you mentioned even though I'm a commuter because my home is very full with 7 adults (including me), a one year old, and 2 indoor dogs. It can be quite overwhelming. Lately, I've found that late at night is when it's finally quiet, and I want to stay up just to be in the quiet for a while even when it's in my best interest to go to sleep.
Maybe colleges should try to understand their students personality types when allocating them to dorms. That way the INFJ/P dorm would be a haven of tranquillity and the ESFP/ESTP dorm could be sited next to the campus security! Just joking but interested to know your thoughts on what you might do to improve things if you ran the college?
Ed Wright That would be great if students could be matched up with their preferred mbti type. I think for college improvement they need different rules and actually need to enforce them. Like, everyone has to use earbuds if they’re listening or watching something. As for rooming, they should have a “quiet hall” rooming option, which is something the college I studied at had. This hall has rooms for students who specifically request a quieter environment. Also more single room options. Finally, colleges should not push “community” and extroverted activities on everyone, and should acknowledge that their are other and better ways of doing assignments without forcing students to do so many group projects and public presentations.
@@MeAnINFP What a nightmare! Those all sound completely sensible ideas to me. I think the issue is unfortunately Managers always seem to be predominantly Extroverts. For example I used to work in IT in an open plan office where most of the programmers like myself were Introverts who needed quiet to immerse themselves in their work but most of the managers were Extroverts who were on the phone or in discussions at their desks or at tables in the middle of the office. The managers never really understood the issue or if they tried to would implement something ludicrous like making us wear hats if we were not to be approached directly or have notional core quiet hours that people from different teams never respected! The heart of the problem being that open plan offices, just like shared, noisy dorms, are institutionally Extrovertist!
What a profoundly identifiable contribution. Thanks for the post. I agree that most can't relate to these things well enough to really empathize, its very refreshing to hear you articulate them and know that someone else gets it. Trying to share these things with others always seems to come across as whiny- at least in their eyes. I'd really love to hear your tactics for dealing with these challenges? Asking the world to be quiet for a while doesn't seem to work very well. Headphones do seem to let a surprising amount of the world in. Even the fancy noise cancelling ones that everyone raves about. I've spent an embarrassing amount of money trying them. So far, it does seem to be one of the better options I've found for me. If I can find something that's interesting enough but not too distracting to listen to, it can at least divert my attention away from the distractions for a while. I can't quiet the world, but I can try to distract my senses away from it just long enough for a break from it. I would very much appreciate hearing what works for you? Thanks for making the video and sharing your thoughts with us.
@@MeAnINFP I didn't need them when I was younger either! It's strange. I'm so happy I found info about HSP, because I used to just think I was weird! Dr. Elaine Aron is amazing for discovering this! Love your videos! I relate to you so much and you explain topics so well! :)
I've always been sensitive to light and noise. It also takes me a while to fall asleep. I also live near student accommodation in the centre of a city.
I may have mentioned it to you before, but if not..Have a guess who else is the same...Your reading his words. 😉️ Being an INFP and sensitive to external stimuli with high empathy seems to go hand in hand with one or two other INFP's i know on youtube that makes videos too. Interesting how they seem to correlate. 🤔️
So I am hsp, 2 year in university and after pasing exam sesion that was only 13 days for 7 exams, and not a break after.. I fell absolutely dead.. Everything in university bother me, bright lights, noises, so many people, socialization, classes and so many information,my perfectionism I want only good grades and I make it but is so frustrating.. Now i have progect to do we dont have break between 1 and 2 semester and after so many exams we just continue! I get it girl! An HSP here too. You articulate this very well. I relate so much even down to certain lights give me a headache.

Thank you for this , I felt I’m not alone in this ☹️💜
Rolit Wany You’re welcome! It’s hard being an HSP

And I can relate to the light sleeping! I need earplugs to sleep!
Same, I didn't used to, but now I'm more sensitive to noises and can't sleep without them.
