    An old friend in the 90's who's father owned a Stratos dealership took me out on a Stratos pro 201 if I remember correctly.It had an Evinrude V8 outboard.We were drinking Jack Daniel's and it was after dark.I remember seeing the speedo 88mph then I hid in the floor board.He said we got over 90mph.I can't believe we're still alive.

    The underwater drag of the outboard gearbox will limit the speed you will hit a drag wall that cannot be beat with power it’s unavoidable. Have fun trying.👍

    Evinrude: 8 carburetors please.

    Really surprised you’re using cable steering . I used that on some horsepower outboards on small hydros zzz lol

  • @jeffb8562

    Thought it was halfway fast until I saw 👀 kph instead of mph. My ‘90 v4 140hp Evinrude on a ‘15 open bow Baja with a 15 pitch, 3 blade aluminum damn near does that.

    • @ct1762
      @ct1762 2 роки тому

      60 mph on a 15' Baja your gonna need more like a 24''-26'' prop. a 15'' isnt near enough unless theres something seriously wrong with your motor.

    I don't know if you still have it. Second video I see of this boat.
    Get an experienced guy to set it up. That motor holds the World record still at 177 mph.
    I know you visited a hardware store and got creative with standard bolts, plastic or even lexan sheeting for the carb face snd steering arms. The arms should be metal, preferably titanium or steel, not even aluminum. Your
    u-bolt actually was coming undone during this short video. Even at 60mph, you will flip.
    These boats used closed cockpit for a reason. I know in your other video you said you're " just having fun". No responses in a year, hope it didn't flip. For it to be dragging the entire hull, something is way far off. Forget the comments on prop pitch. Even though Evinrude is gone you must communicate with an Evinrude racing specialist. That steering setup would never be allowed. You didn't even safety wire it. Sorry if I am harsh, but I saw the other video of the boat. With the forward open cockpit you will not survive a flip, even at that low speed. It was plowing, not even planing... Be safe.

      @russrogers3106 Рік тому +1

      Yes they can flip but the big problem with OB Hydros is the skeg breaking on the gearcase. This one isn't running fast enough yet to pop the tail and get it up on the sponsons.

    • @andykerr3803
      @andykerr3803 Рік тому

      @@russrogers3106 Do be careful. I honestly think you ate underestimating the amount of force that motor is generating.
      "Skeg breaking off..." The most concentrated force will be on the transom because of leverage (and weight).
      Seriously, that same motor that ran 177 mph is dumping a lot of excess (uncontrolled also) force into a 60 mph run. Anyways, enjoy that big beautiful beast but do talk to some guys that have run over 150, even if you never exceed 80 mph you need a good margin of safety in all areas.
      Cheers 🍻

      @Andy Kerr I have been an official for outboard drag racing for many years and been around the sport since the late 80s. Sun Valley Fiberglass built a record holding HydroFlite owned by Tom Kunzemann and I think it was a skeg fracture that cost him his life. Certainly a hydro can blowover but when the lift on the tail goes away... that's a common way for it to start. That big V8 that set the record was on methanol with a nitrous chaser but the motors coming out of Monte Racing in Florida, make more power and live longer than Second Effort ever could. At any rate an OB hydro can be a 'safe' way to get well over 125 with OB power. But at those speeds... safe is a relative term.

    • @andykerr3803
      @andykerr3803 Рік тому

      @@russrogers3106 Hi Russ, by "skeg fracture" I understood that you meant damage to the solid lower fin only, not the gear housing. Strangely I've known guys to cut them off completely, personally I would shape them for minimum drag. A fracture would have to be from impact, unless maybe the gear case itself exploded as torque converters can in a car... Usually serious I juries occurred from the force of water which can have both a ripping and impactive force. The other fatal injury is an impact causing the motor to be catapulted into the driver.
      Regardless, it's wonderful to see a monster like that resurrected and on the water. It would be nice to see another V8 go after that record. The new motors may be more powerful, but they lack the single purpose brute force and simplicity of the OMC. Hope to see another video from you 👍
