I love these how to videos with Demarcus. He breaks down the process in a good way, and is very honest about the amount of work that goes into dialing in these tricks.
Building muscle in your arms and legs is key. Experienced riders give great tips. But for beginners you really need to build muscle in your arms and legs. Control is key. Push-ups and squats will get you there quicker. Awesome vid. Great filming
I love skating but idk why BMX imo the most swag compared to all the other sports... Park or street riding, dont matter lol even the basic tricks look fresh af.
LuXe Spain a A lot depends on your height and top tube length too. I’m 6’2”, ride 21” tt, and can’t manual with my ass low or back like most. My arms never fully lock, stay slightly bent and I can manual just fine this way. Everyone has a different way that feels comfortable. Best way to learn is to try different positions til you feel the most comfortable!
Most people tell you to practice by trying to beat the amount of parking spots you last got. It's interesting how he has an opposite kind of theory where you're not supposed to focus on any set distance.
the easiest way to learn manual is to learn how to do the bail first before the balance. The hard point maybe is how to got to the center point of your balance but just try and try and try.. That's how i learned manual
Chain tension would be a great video for yall to cover. As an older bike rider I see that many riders not have their chain set properly and no one ever really covers the topic.
I used to be able to manual. Stopped riding for 10 years. Now I can’t manual for shit. DeMarcus looks more comfortable manualing a rail than he does on flat.
How long did it take for most of you guys to learn? I just bought a BMX (25 years old) and it’s been over a decade since I’ve set foot on a bike, let alone try to do “tricks”. Having fun so far just don’t seem to be progressing much.
Amazing rider for sure. But if you watch his technique. He throws the body back to help get the tyre up, not just pulling hard with arms. He also uses hip position to adjust his balance while in it not arms. Also not sure about why you wouldnt set a target distance, wouldnt that help you track your progress and keep eyes up.
It's been hard for me to learn it and I feel bad about it but I'm careful to be able to master it, what happens to me is that I turn the bar unintentionally somewhere oh I throw a lot of it and I fall off the bike
I need serious help with this. I pulled up really hard and looped out and busted my ass pretty good. Now I am totally gun shy, scared I'm going to bust my ass again. Can't get over the fear now but want to learn to manual. Don't know what to do now.
awesome video. i have one question tho which i really need help with. nobody responded so far on that subject =/ i tried to manual a few times now and everytime i loop out, i fall and it hurts a lot. i cant get off the pedals, if i jump, it only makes it worse since my feet are on the pedals and i only push the bike even harder away then. practiced jumping off but i dont really know how to. Can anyone send me a video on how to bail it? i really dont dare to practice manuals because of this. i always fall really hard and its no fun at all with no results
Not sure of your setup, but maybe try lowering your seat to make sure you don’t get hung up on it? If you feel yourself about to loop out, don’t lean forward to try to save it while you’re learning. You should be able to get your feet off and not fall. Good luck my dude!
So straighten the knees to bring the bike up, and bend the knees to bring it down? I’m 87kg (13.7 stone ish) and stocky I run 85-95 psi. Is that too much?
Go a medium speed that you're comfortable with. Too slow and it will be really hard to balance. Too fast and it will be harder to pull up and it could get wild if you loop out.

Great video! I learned how to manual on a mountain bike, and I've had a lot of trouble learning on the BMX. Hopefully these tips will help me out.
Interesting that you say that cause I was under the impression manualing mtb is harder than bmx

If you have a rear brake, don't use it when learning (hand completely off the brake). Let your body do all it can to keep a manual

lil tip is lower your ass down to the tire so youre more stable good luck with them and try'em up a curb or somewhere else than flat ground

I’ve never set a distance goal I usually always set a time goal because the longer I go kinda determines how better I’m getting at manuals
