I learn footjamming by going on my road and going up and down getting moderate speed and jumping on my front wheel and balancing. Foot jams are also the first trick I ever learned.
How to foot jam: Don’t be sacred to lean foward and if you are lean back as far as u can when u feel like falling . Also when ur going go medium speed jam ur foot and lean foward and bend ur legs as much as u can leaning foward and boom
@@plussizeriderlifeshardbike9318 not very far, at all. A pretty nasty ankle surgery set me back quite a bit. I mostly just kind of flow around and look for smooth transitions now. I live near Mike, so there are plenty of good spots around that work for me.

Went from a 20.75 to to 21 tt and now I'm having a hard time sucking less at manuals... But I'm old and likely falling apart also. Lol... Couple good tips here that may help me regain the 3 parking stall long manuals I was pulling
@Mike Fede I can wheelie hundreds of feet on my mountain bike. Can't wheelie a BMX or my dirt jump bike for nothin. So, I've been working on manuals on my DJ bike, for pump tracks. How much do you use your rear brake in a manual? Seems like not at all! I use my rear brake a TON in wheelies,to not go too far past balance point. I've been using my rear brake in manuals, but seems counter-productive for use on a pump track. So, are you not touching your brakes in a manual? I think that Im going wrong with using my brake to control the attitude of my bike. Its all in shifting my weight, right? Thanks for the videos! They're great!
Fede for some reason this video never showed up on my UA-cam or notification til the day after and I’ve been a subscriber with notifications on since the beginning just thought I would let you know, awesome video though
You should have talked about how your bike should be set up correctly. Like having your handle bars at the right height if you bar are to low you will be over the front end of the bike more which will be really hard to get ot up. And talk about rear tire placement.
I thought about it but I figured that wasn’t as important of a factor. When I get on someone else’s bike I don’t make those adjustments, I compensate for the setup. All in all, I came to the conclusion that learning and adapting to what you ride and the surface is key. Thanks for the comment and the support 🤙🏽
I've watched a lot of 'how to air out' videos but they stop short of breaking down what's going on with where your weight should be, wheely hop or bunny hop etc. Could you do a multiple view of this perhaps? Just back after a month off from doing exactly what Matty did on the highest air comp at the incline club. Should I be pulling the bars to my hips?
Sweet man i thinj you made alit of good points. For me i was wondering do you have to be on level land because my street has a bow to it for water runoff and i keep swerving to one side. I Will try to steer with knees like ur video suggest but was wondering why when i pull up its already leaning right although in focused on straight.
Thanks!! Nah it can be up hill or down. Side slant will be harder. That might be one reason why it automatically turns. If not than it might be because you pull harder with that side of your body. I hope that helps! 🤙🏽
@@MikeFede I try not to pull to hard to one side but I will drift over which almost makes me do G turns. But anyways You didnt mention hand placement... I am on an MTB. I can manual about 100M but using my brake. Do you use your brake? I am wondering if I should try and learn without using my brake to control the backward motion. To try and get further.
I'm old. Use to ride some, now my boys are into bmx and I'm back in big time. But I've been trying to learn to manual for a month now and cant get past 3 parking spots consistently. I'm shortish, not puppy arms short but 5' 7". Some tutorials says "arms straight" you say "bent." Slightly? Do you use more leg or arm to adjust? And I know, more practice. I'm frustrated. Like it isn't gonna be in my bag of tricks....
Thomas Schumacher thanks!! Depending on what I’m riding, but most sessions are 90 psi in the rear and 80 in the front. If I’m dropping off something I’ll lower the psi.
I've been trying to learn to manual on my hardtail 27.5+ MTB. It is very hard. I can only hold it up for about 2 seconds. It's like I don't go back far enough, but when I go farther back, I loop out.
Hi Mike, I've been riding for quite a while and able to properly balance my manuals without feathering my brakes. But, everytime I manual I always go slower compared to my other friends who can keep manualing on a decent amount of speed. Do you have any tips for that?
hans yolo thanks! Usually I run no less than 75 psi in the front and rear. Most sessions I run 90 psi in the rear and 80 in the front. It all depends on what I’m riding. I run my bars uncut at 30.
Do you recommend using the back break when learning to manual? I have been but my progress has been slow. Jumping of the back is good, but sometimes you get stuck on there and can't hop off in time, especially when fighting to balance.
I'm having trouble keeping my bars still while trying to go straight, my arms always seem to want to drift off in one direction, basically I cant keep from turning on accident. Also broomstick handlebars, wear a mouth guard.
I’ve thought of doing a broom bar but I feel like that’ll snap and hurt lol. As for the tip for your manual. Try to counter the turn with your knees and turn them and lean the opposite way you’re turning. It takes some time but you’ll get it 🤙🏽
Is it possible that lighter guys have a higher center of gravity in manuals that heavier ones?? .. i used to be able to manual pretty low when i started but now i need to get to atleast 45° to get any sort of distance.. used to be 80kg when i started now I'm 50kg..
