  • Everyone in my family has a Jeep and I've even had a couple over the years, but now that I decided to buy a Toyota Tacoma, am I regretting my decision? I sit down and talk about the rationale behind my choice and talk about what the future holds for my truck.

Good job and I totally agree with your attitude. It’s getting out there that counts and being comfortable on the highways works for me. There are lots of stunning places to go without a rock crawler, but that works for some folks and that’s fine too. Most important that we take care of these wild places, both for future generations and the critters that call those places home!

Great video Jordan, also nice to meet Sam and Winnie. I love my 2018 JLU and we were looking at getting a 2023 or 2024 JT but seeing how much you love your Toyota now we're looking at those for Overlanding. Really like the Project M camper and all of the possibilities. Can't wait to see more of your content here. And Thank You for your service, stay safe.

Tacomas are some of the most popular off-road vehicles for a reason. They work. You could do a lot worse than a Tacoma. I like how this build is going. Not every 4x4 needs to be a rock crawler, sometimes you just want a little more capability to go out into the desert. As long as you're having fun that's all that counts.

I'm a Jeep guy, but it's cool you went Toyota. MIixes it up ... power! Go solar. I did dual batteries, but now also have Solar for if we find a great spot and decide to stay a day or two longer. Your fridge will shut down cuz your battery is dieing. But since I did solar, I don't worry about it at all. And I don't have to keep starting my Jeep. Now I can blow up my floaty toy and putter around the lake worry free. And you can get some really simple starter setups (at a really nice price)... that you even grow into. (I could actually take away my dual battery now... I just have it shut off). AND! no carrying around big heavy battery packs or whatever those things are called.

I've been away for a while and surprised to see a "new face" as it were when I came back, again, to see what Trail Recon was up to. But, it looks like there's a whole new generation ready to step up if your Dad ever decides to kick back and relax. However, I hope that won't be soon. As a former Taco owner and a present 4runner driver there are a number of suspension kits. If you like the way it drives just go up with the Bilstein 5100s... they're the same shocks you have just taller. 🇺🇸 I love my 2015 Taco OR! A-Trac has rescued me from many stuck situations. Even if I have a jeep, I wouldn't take it rock crawling. I would rather hike those rock crawl trails. It would be faster by feet. My Taco has never failed me! Just the oil, trans, brake pads, changes. Wish list, switching between 2wd to hi, lo can be a bit cumbersome. But, it has never failed. I'm looking at the four-wheel shell, too. Thanks for your updates.

Agreed, it doesn’t matter what you drive. To be a good overland or off road vehicle is doesn’t have to be a Jeep. There are many Jeeps that look very off road capable that only see the pavement. Yes, get out there! I think you made a good choice. If you want to do some modifications, aftermarket support is important. I have a 2016 Colorado and the aftermarket support for it is not as “strong” as for my wife’s Gladiator or your Tacoma. Your plans sound pretty good.

I can’t believe how much your voice sounds like your Dad’s, I opened this video half not paying attention and I swear it was your Dad I was listening to, and I couldn’t believe that he had bought a Toyota!
Great video, I’m sure you’ll build the truck of your dreams, given all the skills you probably learned from you father. I’ll be staying tuned into your future videos. By the way, you really want to live dangerously, than run a Landrover like I do, you’ll really learn how to be a mechanic quickly; but seriously the comfort issues you described with the Tacoma is why we run out LR4 off road, comfort and off road capability all in one 👍🏼

Great video. Very thorough, wide scope, technical, with just the right depth. I can't hardly imagine getting rid of my jk, especially since its about like i want it, but your video gave me some ideas about what my post-jk future might look like. One example: i have a three car garage with three cars, the jk, a full size truck, and an old vette. I Will probably downsize one day and end up with a two car garage. I'll have the vette until I'm planted, and i will always have a truck for a daily. So swapping the jeep/full size truck combo for a mid size truck with offroad capability is feasible. Had never thought about that until your video. Thanks bud

Nice Truck loved my Toyota 4by4 SR5 when I was a youngster like yourself. Wish I still owned it but life happens.

I have a 2019 Tacoma and I added a Leer topper last year to start my build, but I love the project m topper you have, seems to be more practical than what I have now but I can still load the back of the truck down and carry my tent and other things I need for a good trip. btw: my truck and topper are both silver. 😀

Great setup. I agree with you about toyota, I like the way you think. More important is to build something for your needs. I run for 10 years, an FJ Cruiser, which is a very great truck . Now I run Tacoma offroad 2019. I'm just starting to build for overlanding ... maybe check with the Milwaukee Packout system for some boxes in the cab or bed... see in some of my videos for ideas ..
    Have fun.

I like the chrome wheel look. I have the method 105 beadlocks chrome with black rings. 315’s also look good in chrome. I like the classic circle hole truck rim. Hard to find. I had 16”, stepped up to 17”… hard to beat a truck!!!

Went with a Frontier Pro 4x. Did a Titan swap on 35”. Can’t go wrong with that set up.

Bilstein 6112 in the front, and medium or heavy dakar leaf pack. Rear shocks I have a relo kit with kings for the weight but another bilstein set would be fine. Perfect set up for long road trips/offroading with no crazy rock crawling
