I just wish Ash got an Eevee which could have become Espeon. Would have made sense do to red having one. And because evolving through friendship makes sense for a pokemon owned by Ash.
Ash had a Ghastly that evolved into Haunter in g1. Is this the same Ghastly? I can't really remember what happened to him. This is past my time now but that was one of my top 3 favorite evolution chains. Ghastly, Haunter, and Gengar. They also had some pretty cool bios on the cards. Who wouldn't want a pet ghost that can shadow ball people into oblivion or watch someone get licked into a paralyzed coma? Jokes.
@bostonrailfan2427 Yeah, but Gengar is on Ash's world champion team and Infernape beat Paul in an epic battle. Charizard would be after whoever has the third slot
@bostonrailfan2427 Yeah, and I was talking about the lowest start compared to ending point. Charmander had a pretty low starting point, but it wasn't that much worse than Chimchar or Gengar and they reached higher. Pikachu started as a Pichu completely alone in the world and is now the world champion's ace
When I was a kid Gengar is all I wanted and my Haunter stuck at that form while being level 55 (Pokemon Yellow) Wish I could've met someone and traded with them.

Actually, the soup that made gengar gigantamax makes sense. It's not answered explicitly in the anime, but in Pokemon Sword and Shield: Isle of Armour, we got the answer that the soup is made up of mushrooms filled with dynamax energy.
They should have kept the original forms for gigantimax. These forms remind of of that gen 1 episode where they find "super ancient" pokemon. Huge versions of Gengar and Alakazam
That haunter was caught by some yellow haired kid and it evolved later into a gengar. But was abandoned by his loser yellow haired trainer since that trainer thought that the Gengar was cursed
6:15 Litten wasnt abused by a trainer Litten never had a trainer that abused him he just stayed with Stoutland every time if I rememeber correctly. And also heres a theory: Litten's Dad might be Stoutland since they share the same egg group.

What is the tragic backstory??? Gotta pretty dam interesting! I bet mines bette!!! Hahaha! Can you tell Amy and Brian to kiss my ass! Great video by the way!@@ThunderZolt
Meowth is supposed to be a bad guy, but he’s like that with older brother who teases you a lot but when your having a real hard time he’s there for you and gives good advise to you.
Gengar showing parallels to a bunch of Ash's Fire-Types just cemented my unfulfilled wish of seeing N come back to the anime, to pay a visit to Oaken Corral and meet Ash's entire pokemon roster, even the ones he technically released. Just imagine everyone's favorite pokemon whisperer learning about all the adventures Ash had gone through, the friends he made before and after Unova, and all the pokemon, legendary or otherwise, that Ash had befriended and rescued. Out of anyone in Ash's circle of friends, N would be the only one capable of actually learning all of their stories, straight from the 'mons themselves, from Bulbasaur to Dracovish and everyone in between. He'd probably be the first if not the only one to learn just how many times Ash wound up saving the world in some capacity, long before the Team Plasma incident and several times after, so he of all people would know that Ash's dream of being a pokemon master was something he long-since deserved to see realized.
I love how Ash got through to Gengar and helped him see that not all people are like his former Trainer. Gengar became a bruiser in his own right and was a phantasmal force to be reckoned with in every battle, even the ones that resulted in him getting knocked out.
That guy is crazy, Gengar is awesome! One of my favorite Pokémon since first gen. Gengar and Eevee are the only Pokémon’s that I always have in my party since first gen.
A great video and breakdown for sure and it's crazy how often Ash comes across abandoned Pokemon even though the first famous one was Charmander, remember that Bulbasaur came from a daycare full of abandoned Pokemon ans Squirtle also ran a group of Pokemon thst were abandoned by trainers. So out of Ash's original team half of them would be cast offs that became such great bn pokemon from Ash's love and care.
I’ll be honest gengar become one of my favorites because of this story I made me mad and sad that the previous just left him but thank god that gengar got a happy ending
J's been watching too much Ghostbusters and playing Luigi's mansion in order to pull that move on Ganger. Jokes aside, Ganger has always been my favorite Ghost/Poison type. That fat ghost will always grow on me.
Out of all the Original 150 pokemon as a fan of Ghosts before the whole dark type moves and normal-types being immune to ghost types. I loved Gengar. The only issue being, in the game, players can only have 4 different attacks. A poison/ghost type has an insane number of possible combinations.
Torkoal & Talonflame were wild pokemon that didn't have abusive trainers though. It was mainly the fire starters (cyndaquil didn't belong to anyone at the time when it was wild, But it was being harassed & was trying to be caught by an abusive trainer). BUT Overall I Love Ash's Gengar!!!!!!! Honestly I didn't like how the anime portrayed Gengar for half of the series as they kept making him lose, but happy they made him rise again as he was OP in the M8 Battles!!!! I would trade Dragonite, Sirfetch'd, & Dracovish away just to have Gengar be more of a star that I consider him the 2ndary Ace behind Lucario in Ash's Journeys team. > Heck, Gengar & Lucario were almost practically surrounded by Ash's Regional Aces in the group photo
i know im pretty late to the video, but i wanted to explain 7:45 :) most wild pokemon aren't maxed out on dynamax level, so at first they only dynamax (get big but stay normal). if you feed gigantamax soup to one of those pokemon, their dynamax level increases, eventually maxing out. at that point, when you go to dynamax, they will instead gigantamax, and become their new form. the same goes for all pokemon with a special gigantamax version, ie; snorlax, garbodor, the starters. i think it's pretty cool that they paid homage to that aspect in the anime, better connecting the two as they don't always follow the same story
I wish Gengar got acess to the max soup as a prize for winning some small tourney, one where Gengar should face his old trainer and would be at first so enraged it wouldn't fight properly (maybe targeting the huyman?), but Ash convinces Gengar to make it different, make it right, make it better, make an effort and make a change.
Im 36 now and haven't watched pokemon for probably 20 years, but these summaries bring me a lot of joy to watch. Keep the great work!
Bro me too dude me fkn too
exactly why I'm here, 34 and haven't seen an episode since the misty and brock left
I'll watch pokemon when I'm 100 years old

34 here. I feel the same. I work with a lot of younger people and they still buy Pokémon cards.
The fact that Ash got a Gengar, Lucario and Dragonite in one series is crazy. Because the fanbase had wanted Ash to have those pokemon for years.

i mean, it kinda makes sense, gen 8 was the generation where ash left the anime, so maybe game freak gave ash those pokemon as fan service
Ash had a Ghastly that evolved into Haunter in g1. Is this the same Ghastly? I can't really remember what happened to him. That Gengar was one of the best characters in the anime. His loyalty was something else
That abandoned Bulbasaur story got to me so much when I was younger.
No he having the time of his life with may bulbasaur
Aside from Ash and Pikachu themselves, and *maybe* Infernape, Gengar is probably Ash's best example of "started from the bottom now we're here"
what about Charizard? he went from abandoned and almost dying to being a vital team member to being a mentor?

Haha frfr
Paul literally witnessed Infernape managed to get through the finals too, at least that once
One of my favorite Gengar moments, it's a small one though, was when it helped Ash lift up the trophy he won after defeating Leon.
The scene showing Gengar sitting alone on the stairs is really heart touching...

Ironic how abandoned pokemon become absolute BEASTS, in Ash's team. They arent just pro trainer level they are literally CHAMPION level.
Reason why I love Gengar so much is because he can be both cool and cute at the same time
