@@reactswithjax It's a perfect movie for Thanksgiving :D (As I just noticed other people saying, so ignore me, rofl.) And many people actually think it's better than the first (I'm not so sure myself, but the fact that it's hard to pick a favorite just proves how great both movies are!).
You should check out the old 1960s Addams TV-show, which really laid the groundwork for who the Addams Family were. I've been told that Gomez and Morticia was the first TV couple on American TV to actually be allowed to show intimate affection (kissing, touching, etc.) for each other - not only that, but they defied the typical stereotypes of the unhappily married couple with the beaten down husband and nagging wife that was pervasive in comedies at the time. Best part is how surprisingly inclusive they are, accepting all people into their home, no matter how different (or "normal") they are. A powerful message in the 60s, and today. Carolyn Jones defined Morticia Addams as the elegant and mysterious lady of the house, and John Astin the passionate and eccentric husband.
I worked with Jimmy W. (Pugsley) on a couple movies in the last few years. Such a great guy with a wonderful family! Last Halloween he dressed his youngest daughter as Pugsley… super cute!!!
I always wanted a real library growing up, and now I'm very happy to have made that happen. Lots of shelves of books and a nice comfy chair to read in!
So knowing that "Gordon" is actually legitimately Fester, then him knowing the Mamushka could be explained with muscle memory/him subconsciously responding to music he's heard before
I just realized when Tully said to Fester "Think of the Dubloons!" to try to sway him back to their side, that made no sense, Fester was literally already legally in possession of ALL the money lol. So he had them already, he didn't need him or "mother" anymore.
I've heard of a theory that no Addams can be killed by another Addams. So, they can do whatever they want to each other, but are still vulnerable to the outsiders. The original plan was for Gordon to be just accepted as Fester. The crew felt like it didn't fit well, and decided to ask the director to change it, so that he'd be revealed to be the real Fester. The message was delivered... by Christina Ricci (Wednesday).
1:35 If I remember right, they had the actor for Thing (Christopher Hart, an actor/magician) lay down on a cart while he was pushed around while doing the "walking/running" motions, and then they greenscreened/rotoscoped his body out. I also remember hearing that his fingertips were absolutely destroyed from doing it so much, lol. And that train shot at 15:43 was the funniest thing in the world for me when I saw this movie as a kid. I remember absolutely losing it at Gomez's insane laugh, lol.
You could tell because in the scene were Thing is trying to tell Gomez what happend to Morticia you can see the hole on the table where the hand is coming from.
Surprised that you assumed Fester/Gordon was scamming them the whole time since you had already seen Addams Family Values that had Christopher Lloyd in it playing Fester. You watched it like you have never seen anything before.
He's made a career out of hand acting. He played Thing in the two Addams Family movies, the possessed hand in "Idle Hands," and disembodied hands in an episode of "Angel."
Now, that school talent show is one I'd actually enjoy. 😄 Charles Addams started to draw the cartoons that eventually became The Addams Family for "The New Yorker" magazine in 1938. They lampooned the laughably unrealistic view of the "perfect American family" as portrayed in paintings by such artists as Norman Rockwell and (eventually) such television shows as "Father Knows Best", "Leave it to Beaver", "The Donna Reed Show" and "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet." Those shows did everything possible to epitomize conservative American cultural values as they ignored (or even actively denied) the lack of fulfillment felt by many American women -- forced out of the workforce after WWII and then restricted to domestic life -- as well as the rising tide of change wrought by the Civil Rights Movement and the bitter resistance to the war in Vietnam. By contrast, the Addams family held up a macabre mirror that pointed out the shallow hypocrisy of the times, by portraying a family that lived hilariously outrageous lives while at the same genuinely loving and caring for one another, and engaging in activities that (although bizarre on the surface) actually did good things for their community while voicing contrarian views of societal norms. This set of films captures that beautifully -- especially the second one -- which would've made them fun to watch even without the spectacular chemistry between Angelical Huston and Raul Julia, as well as he delightful performances by Christopher Lloyd and the brilliantly cast Christina Ricci, both of whom absolutely nailed their characters.
I first saw Raul Julia in Tequila Sunrise (1988) with Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell, and Michelle Pfeiffer. They were all great in the movie, but Raul Julia always just had this undeniable presence in his acting. He's sorely missed.
Yes! I'm so delighted that a reactor finally seems to really GET this movie! So many take it weirdly literally and miss so much of it. And your giggle is delightful.

Did you notice "Gordon" his eye was twitching and his face was making weird facial twitches when Sully was talking about the fight 25 years ago and Fester going missing. I wonder if early memories was trying to surface even then but it took the Lightning to unlock the mental block.
To answer the question: Thing was done mostly by rotoscoping. Some prosthetics when others have direct physical interaction with it, but mostly rotoscoping. Which is just animating a life like thing over film. Like the lightsabers in starwars.
The Addams Family "family" was the perfect cast. What I love about this movie is that it still holds up to this day. Jax looks like she loves Halloween. I always loved both movies equally and how the girl who plays the Girl Scout plays a bigger role in Addams Family Values. This movie actually took me back to the TV show it was so well made and I think Raul Julia was born to play Gomez Addams.
Common misconception. The “tips fedora” guy was Jerry Messing, who played Pugsley in Addams Family Reunion, 1998. The bad one with Tim Curry and pretty much none of the original cast. This Pugsley was Jimmy Workman, who by the way is the brother of Ariel Winter, who plays Alex in Modern Family.
Where Christna Ricci (Wednesday) got her start. Everyone sort of compares Jenna Ortega and Wynona Ryder as the goth girls now, but Christna Ricci was in pretty big demand in the 90s and early 2000s. Unfortunately, she was so good at playing psycho she kind of got typecast.
Angelica Huston (Morticia) has such a presence because she is Hollywood royalty. Her family has been in front of and behind the camera since the early days of film. Her grand father Walter was an Oscar-winning actor (Treasure of the Sierra Madre), her father was the legendary writer-director John Huston (Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, the first big screen version of the musical Annie, & Prizzi's Honor...to name just a few) who also acted (he voiced Gandalf in the animated The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in the 1970s) Her half-brother Danny is an actor (X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Stryker and Wonder Woman as General Ludendorff), as is her nephew, Jack (Boardwalk Empire, Ben-Hur (2016 remake), and the recent The Mayfair Witches) Angelica herself has been in many films and won the Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for the comedy-drama Prizzi's Honor (directed by her father and starring her former lover Jack Nicholson, along with Kathleen Turner) She was a so in John Wick 3 & 4 She also co-starred with Michael Jackson in the short 3D film Captain EO, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written by George Lucas, which was an attraction at Disneyland for many years and can now be seen on UA-cam. Raul Julia is one of my favorite actors. He did stage, television, and film. He sang wonderfully starring in such musicals as The Threepenny Opera, which he later brought to film as Mack the Knife, playing MacHeath, aka Mack the Knife. He also originated the role of Guido Contini in Maury Yeston's Nine on Broadway, directed by Tommy Tune, the only adult male in a huge female ensemble, the show itself based on the Frederico Fellini film 8 1/2. His role was played by Daniel Day-Lewis in the Rob Marshall film Nine in 2009. Several of his films should be seen in reaction videos but aren't. Among his best: - Presumed Innocent (as Sandy Stern) opposite Harrison Ford - Kiss of the Spider Woman as Valentin opposite William Hurt's Oscar-winning Molina - Moon Over Parador opposite Richard Dreyfuss - Tequila Sunrise with Mel Gibson,Michelle Pfeiffer, and Kurt Russell - Street Fighter with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ming Na-Wen, and Kylie Minogue...okay, it ain't a great movie by a long shot, BUT Raul was amazing as the villainous M. Bison. It was also his final role. See it just for his scene with Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li..."For me, it was Tuesday." Rest in peace, Raul Julia....in memory still bright!
Morticia & Gomez' reactions to the torture reminds me a lot of the hilarious song by comic musician Tom Lehrer, "The Masochism Tango". Highly recommend.
In the original ending Gordon wasn't really Fester, he was just an imposter who ended up with the family instead. The cast hated it, and they elected Christina Ricci to be their spokesperson during the first cast table read to try and convince the director to change the ending. She successfully convinced the director to change the ending that it was truly Fester.
Thisis for me the best and most iconic Adams Family movie. However the 2nd isnt bad, the amazing acting of the actors in this movie stans out soo much! so refreshing
One of my childhood favorites! I'd like to think it informed my outlook and sense of humor as an adult and am lucky for it. If you get a chance look up the original Addams Family Comics, which were a newspaper comic strip poking fun at the 'nuclear' American family yet being wholesome, supportive and loving. As an oddball I find it really upliftng when im feeling down.
I'm so happy that you know of Gilligan's Island! Not many folks our age do. Sounds like you don't remember a whole lot of Addams Family Values. Looking forward to watching that reaction.
Your reactions are so much fun and great. I grew up with the TV show (that ages me :) and LOVED it. It's also so rare to find remakes of anything that are good and this one is great. The casting was perfect, the writing and delivery is just so much fun. Watch the next one when you can and definitely watch the old show. Thank you again for sharing this with us. You're fantastic. Take care.
😎👍 The main difference between this and the original television program (1964-1966) is that on TV, Lurch was more than just a peripheral character. He was one of the main reasons people would tune in week after week. It was fun watching his facial expressions and goofy mannerisms. 😁 Incidentally, if you found it novel seeing Christina Ricci at this age, then check out any movie from the 1970s with Jodie Foster in it, or any movie from the 1980s with Drew Barrymore in it. 😉
I grew up watching the Addams Family TV series from the 60s the only complaint i had about this movie was the lack of Lurch who was a big part of the series, Ted Cassidy not only excellent as Lurch but also playing Thing
0:05 -- RE: "I have never seen this movie before."; A: Even if you had I suspect this will be Lambie's first time, correct? This film is excellent for its commitment "to the Bit" which started as a comic strip before going to TV, before eventually landing on the silver screen. Peak Morticia is arguably during the TV years but Dang, Angelica Huston knows how to deliver a line with panache. Whatever else the Addams family is, it is certainly true to its own self.
This movie is as old as me(33)and it holds up pretty darn well. It's such an iconic classic, Raul Julia and Angelica Houston are absolutely PERFECT as Gomez and Morticia. There are actually two sequels, but The Addams Family Values is the only one worth watching. Pretty much the whole cast replaces for the third. Angelica Houston refused to reprise her role as Morticia due to the passing of Raul Julia in 1994(RIP), her actual response to being asked was "Not without my Gomez). Christooher Lloyd also declined to return out of respect for Raul.
Yessss..... every single Addams Family movie or animation I've watched I've just absolutely loved. Really really loved it! Addams Family Values (next one) is just as good in my opinion. They really know what they're doing when they make these Addams Family movies and shows. I was really bummed to hear that Raul Julia (Gomez) passed away, not too long after Values came out. He was a really great actor (even in the silly Street Fighter movie he played the villain really well.) But yeh all the gross and scary stuff that they do is always funny. Loved that it was Christopher Lloyd who played Fester too. He did a great job. :)
"RIP Raul Julia" i think that him and Angelica Houston were a great Gomez and Morticia! And Christopher Lloyd was a great Uncle Fester! This movie comes close to the orginal Adam's Family tv series! I luv "Cousin It"! Please watch the sequel! Thanks Jax!❤️💛🤌🤌
The Addams Family1960s TV show is worth checking out. This was a throwback to that series but with a bigger budget. while the canned laughter is dated, that show defined the personalities and quirks of all the characters.. even moreso than the original comics that started it all.
Even when your scared your so Beautiful, just cover Lamies eyes, she might jump with the jump scare! I really Love your raw reactions , I'm your no. 1 fan!! Keep safe & Happy!! Godbless you & family, always.
best addams family version. best wednesday version. best morticia version. best gomez version EVER!. THESE PEOPLE ARE! THE ADDAMS FAMILY! I love them forever.
In my mind, the Addams family is the exact opposite of old fashioned upper class ideals. Ugly (weird, scary) on the outside, beautiful (loving, nurturing) on the inside. They don't care one ounce about their perception from outsiders but very much for family. Considering their nigh immortal even trying to do things that would murder normal humans are more like loving quarrels.
Something I like about it is that they are “weird” to outsiders but don’t actually make that distinction themselves. They’re completely accepting of outsiders.
Not counting the cast of Wednesday on Netflix, this is my favorite casting for The Addams Family. Anjelica Huston is sensational as Morticia and Christina Ricci is iconic as Wednesday.
hi glad you enjoyed , the second is as good , also consider the original 1961 series as it is excellent and just 30 minute eps for 2 seasons. the kids go to school is a fav ... wednesday is traumatized by dragon getting killed in grimms fairytales . its on youtube
1:35 "I wonder how they did the hand-acting for this, _way_ back then." CGI was actually pretty badass, in the '90's. I mean, you've seen _Terminator 2._ That movie actually came out the same year _this_ one did.
I know that time dose go by. I have aged Well, if I may say so myself. And proof of that is,,, the Girl Scout selling cookies to Wednesday and Pugsley, she is Harmony on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And she is another person who aged Well, also. And IMO, The Addams Family Values is a MUST WATCH. But that is just my opinion. Great Post, Jax. 👍👍
I hope you do watch the next movie because it sounds like you need a refresher and I think most people like them both and maybe the sequel more if not the same amount.
Thing cheating at chess at the beginning always makes me laugh. The script writing in this movie is absolute gold. It's over the top, and they fully embrace "the kooky."
I love your reactions to the movies, especially with this one. I can't wait to see what you do for Christmas once like national Lampoon's Christmas vacation, home alone stuff like that the Grinch and plus I got to say you're a beautiful woman
I don't decide which movie is better - to me they are just two halves of the same movie. So that way if someone says which Addams Family movie is the best, I can say "Yes!"
The Adams Family teaches us that even that which is strange and unfamiliar has its positive qualities and is not necessarily to be feared. Like Immigrants.
Hey, lets not throw shade on John Astin. John's performance invented practically everything about Gomez's personality Without him, there is no Raul Julia version.
@@williambryan3346 These must be young kids who are saying Raul Julia is a better Gomez than John Astin. They probably didn't grow up with the Addams family. I'm 46 so I grew up with reruns but they were still the originals.
@Reacts With Jax - if you like the Addams family, you would probably love the first season of "Wednesday"... I chronicles Wednesdays life in a not-so-conformist school.. lol the second season is coming soon AND Christina Ricci has a recurring role in it.
The Addamses are the family everyone needs. They are free, they love each other, they enjoy spending time with each other and they don't care about others' criticisms. I can't wait for the next one, they are part of my childhood and I love rewatching these wonderful films.
Gomez and Morticia had one of the most loving and wholesome relationships of all on television and film. They always supported and uplifted their children and only offered very mild admonishment when needed.
dont remember which Addams Family it was but in one of the movies Snoop Dogg voiced Cousin IT. every time i see Christopher Lyod bald i cant help thinking of "who framed roger rabbit" there one you should watch ooh and young frankenstein
Liked everything about this movie with the exception of how they depicted Thing. In the original show they called it Thing for a reason. All you ever saw of it was a hand coming out of a box to light Gomes's cigars among other things. And you never knew what the hand was connected to. All you did know is that it was at their beck and call in every room in the house. This was a big joke in the '60s. They even had novelty battery operated Thing boxes you could buy as Christmas gifts back then that acted as piggy banks. I had one. But they threw away all the mystique with Thing by depicting it simply as some boring disembodied hand. Why call it Thing, then? They missed the joke entirely and they compounded the error in all the subsequent sequels. Even the animated reboot with all the potential animation provides got it wrong.
@@callmeshaggy5166 Not an invented theory. It was the common view in the 60s when the original show first aired. And it is this latest version that reimagined the 60s TV show that changed the entire concept of Thing. And from the point of view of those who grew up with the original TV show, they destroyed the joke in the process.
@@reactswithjax Stark isn't even the richest guy in Marvel.. RJD is gonna play Dr Doom, who is vastly richer than Stark in the comics. But yeah.. in all of fiction, Gomez Addams has always had limitless wealth.. even back when they were just a comic in New Yorker magazine
I understand that Fester becomes bald again (without shaving) because of the hurricane lightning storm, but what I don't get is why he ever started growing hair in the first place. Is it just that his baldness isn't natural, but rather is caused by all the Family shenanigans, so when he was away from the Daily his hair had a chance to recover? 🤔
Jax's issue with digging up dead bodies is just that it's a lot of work.

33:26 Ha! Keep telling yourself that, Jax! 😂🤣
(I can make this joke because I was born in the 80s 😱)
This movie is as old as me(33)and it holds up pretty darn well. It's such an iconic classic, Raul Julia and Angelica Houston are absolutely PERFECT as Gomez and Morticia. There are actually two sequels, but The Addams Family Values is the only one worth watching. Pretty much the whole cast replaces for the third. Angelica Houston refused to reprise her role as Morticia due to the passing of Raul Julia in 1994(RIP), her actual response to being asked was "Not without my Gomez). Christooher Lloyd also declined to return out of respect for Raul.
I’ve never seen the Adams family movie. I just watched to see Jax’s reaction. She is awesome.
Thank you so much for watching!!
Yessss..... every single Addams Family movie or animation I've watched I've just absolutely loved. Really really loved it!
Addams Family Values (next one) is just as good in my opinion. They really know what they're doing when they make these Addams Family movies and shows.
I was really bummed to hear that Raul Julia (Gomez) passed away, not too long after Values came out. He was a really great actor (even in the silly Street Fighter movie he played the villain really well.)
But yeh all the gross and scary stuff that they do is always funny. Loved that it was Christopher Lloyd who played Fester too. He did a great job. :)
Your reactions are great. I love Morticia and Gomez ! Fester is a great character as well xx
I think Jax may have set a record of "oh my god!" in this one 😄
Christina Ricci was eleven in 1991, and this was her second major role after Mermaids.
My first exposure to the Addams Family was a guest appearance on Scooby Doo...😅
They actually approached CHER for the role of Morticia but she was doing another movie at the time.
Yes. A giant library and secret doors would be great. 😅
I swear by my mommy and daddams.. that this Lammy Addams is the recht.. Lammy Addams!! 😂😂
I wouldn't want to sit in the splash zone either. Lol. Cousin Itt was a quirky character. The original tv series was fun to watch!
Might want to check the original TV show. They had a lot of fun with these characters. Interacting with the neighbors 😂
22:40 he knows the dance because HE IS FESTER!!! Home at last.
hi glad you enjoyed , the second is as good , also consider the original 1961 series as it is excellent and just 30 minute eps for 2 seasons. the kids go to school is a fav ... wednesday is traumatized by dragon getting killed in grimms fairytales . its on youtube
1:35 "I wonder how they did the hand-acting for this, _way_ back then."
CGI was actually pretty badass, in the '90's. I mean, you've seen _Terminator 2._ That movie actually came out the same year _this_ one did.
That's a really good point. Sometimes I forget how great special effects are in 90s films.
I definitely need a refresher. I don't remember much of the second film. It's on my watchlist!
15:43 meet the director of the film. Barry Sonnenfeld.
"Oh, you'd really have to open your throat for that one. That is a skill set I would not want to practice." 😯 🤣🤣🤣
Gomez & Morticia are one of my all-time favorite fictional couples.
Creepy and kooky, this was the best version of the Adam's family. Now it's just about smoldering high school girls!!
They actually hired a concert pianist to play Thing.
the girl guild scout is amanda buckman from the second movie who wednesday pushes in the water in the second movie
Morticia and Gomez are couple goals.
They are so cute together!
RIP Raul Julia, 1940-1994. He was the best Gomez Addams we ever had.
Hey, lets not throw shade on John Astin. John's performance invented practically everything about Gomez's personality Without him, there is no Raul Julia version.
John Astin is the G.O.A.T. Raul is a close second.
Agreed! Raul is by far the most amazing Gomez.
@@williambryan3346
These must be young kids who are saying Raul Julia is a better Gomez than John Astin. They probably didn't grow up with the Addams family. I'm 46 so I grew up with reruns but they were still the originals.
@@Wayne-m9i 55 here and I grew up with the reruns too.
@Reacts With Jax - if you like the Addams family, you would probably love the first season of "Wednesday"... I chronicles Wednesdays life in a not-so-conformist school.. lol the second season is coming soon AND Christina Ricci has a recurring role in it.
You really should watch the second movie again. I also recommend the two new animated movies. Stellar voice cast and honestly just as good.
Honestly one of the best tv/movie families ever, Also Angelica Huston is legit amazing
Them and the Munsters. Best TV families ever. ❤
Jax - "I belive this movie came out in 1991, which means I would have been 1 years old"
Me - I was 18. 😐
Hahaha I was 31. Omg!!😮
@@timw8398it hurts right? I was 23
I shall certainly attend your re-watch of Addams Family Values, and would also love to see you dig into episodes of the 1960s series.
dont remember which Addams Family it was but in one of the movies Snoop Dogg voiced Cousin IT.
every time i see Christopher Lyod bald i cant help thinking of "who framed roger rabbit" there one you should watch
ooh and young frankenstein
The two newer animated ones (2019 & 2021).
A love story for the ages!
Sounds like you just misinterpreted it and can't accept your invented theory isn't true.
Chapter 2 the addams family values
Relations ship goals. Love like Gomez and Morticia
Yes, the Addams Family is loaded. Gomez makes Tony Stark & Bruce Wayne look like paupers!
Wow! It's hard to imagine anyone with more wealth than Tony Stark
A nice sweet movie:the wild robot
Jax would make a good Addams
The Brady Bunch and Texas Chainsaw Massacre had a baby, and it was beautiful
The sequel is also 🔥
-----
- I love cats, but seeing grandma Adams in the background going 'Here kitty, kitty!' while wielding a baseball bat made me laugh...
-----
A lot of people say they want couple goals like Joker and Harley Quinn. Not me. My goal is Gomez and Morticia.
Christopher Lloyd was obviously amazing as Uncle Fester
Happy Belated Halloween,Jacqueline!!!!🎃🎃🎃🎃❤❤❤❤💋💋💋💋
Happy Halloween!!!!
