Speaking of Edgar Wright, he’s in Glasgow right now filming The Running Man (2025), based on Stephen King’s 1982 dystopian thriller. Even though the story’s set in 2025, the movie goes for a retro-futuristic '80s vibe, with retro '80s-style vehicles and cyberpunk-inspired designs, instead of trying to match how the 2020s actually look. It’s got that RoboCop (1987) feel and honestly, it's exactly what the RoboCop reboot should’ve looked like.
Didn’t know they were remaking that movie. The original was really very little like the King story, so I wonder if this is more a remake of the movie or a new adaptation of the story.
@@orbislame From my understanding it's going to be much closer to the book but keeping the '80s depiction of the future, fashion, vehicles etc. If you look up *The Running Man (2025) Behind-The-Scenes Filming in Glasgow, Scotland* on youtube you'll see what I mean.
3:25 Shaun's roommate you might recognize as the Sommelier (Guns & Knife guy) in John Wick 2, he was a Nova core soldier in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and was the Voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode 1 the Phantom Menace while the actor for Toad in the first X-Men movie playing Maul on screen.
15:42 the Line from Ed is a reference to the original Night of the living dead from 1968. The main Character in that is named Barbara and he brother says the line "they're coming to get you Barbara".
I have watched this movie dozens of times and I never put together that the bongos on the floor at the beginning of the movie are on Shaun's T-shirt at the end, because the place is tidy now.
The cornetto trilogy is the best, this movie is like a love letter to zombie films. He's got an arm off, never fails to crack me up and the one shot walking through the street is a beaut
For being a comedy and for being a zombie horror film, the acting is amazing! Especially at the end, in the bar, when they had to address Barbara turning.
I've seen this move a dozen times and never noticed that the living room zombie is the guy from the line in the store. Jax' attention to detail is astonishing.
It took me a few watches to notice that Mary (the girl in the garden) was scene for a slip second in the opening montage. She was the cashier at the grocery story ringing up a customer. In fact, a lot of the zombies you can trace back to scenes from early. That level of detail is crazy to see, but makes it WAY more enjoyable for rewatching over, and over, and over again.
@@TheReturnOfSak also it cuts down a lot on actor cost :) and they are playing into it. All the people who ed makes up a life story for are zombie killed
"how oblivious do you have to be to not know there's a zombie apocalypse?" I have no idea how long it would take for someone living in London, but in the town I live in full of crackheads, it might take a few days before I noticed.
I so dearly hope that you end up watching the other two films in the trillogy! Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End; while not connected by characters or plot, all three films share themes, jokes, and throughlines. And each one tackles a different manner of horror film genre, but all are comedies first and foremost.
When they met the other group heading in the other direction, the cast were just as well known to UK viewers at the time. It was like there’s an alternate version of the same movie happening at the same time.
Great reaction Jax like always, love this movie! The plan that Ed comes up with at the Winchester after Shaun gets dumped by Liz is actually a beat-for-beat summary of all the events that will go down the following day: "Have a Bloody Mary's first thing (the first zombie they encounter is named Mary), a bite at the King's Head (Phillip gets bitten in the neck), couple at the Little Princess (Liz is the princess, David and Di are the couple), stagger back here (they pretend to be zombies); bang! Back at the bar for shots (the big shootout in the third act). Watching Edgar Wright's films multiple times is pretty much a necessity due to the sheer amount of foreshadowing and hidden hints he hides in the script. And the movie never actually reveals the cause of the zombie outbreak. Just as the news reporter is about to say it at the end, Shaun changes the channel, thus leaving it a mystery to the audience. And another fun-fact: Zombie godfather himself George A. Romero loved the film so much that gave Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright cameos as zombies in his 2005 film Land of the Dead. Shaun of the Dead remains the first of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s “Cornetto Trilogy”. This was based on Cornetto ice cream, which came in three flavors or colors: red, blue, and green. Shaun of the Dead represents red (blood), Hot Fuzz represents blue (police), and The World’s End represents green (aliens). Keep up the good work.
One of my, many, favorite things about this movie that not a lot of people talk about, is how it’s the “realistic” ending of a traditional zombie outbreak. The military, from my experience as an American, is more than well equipped for even an entire cities worth of a zombie horde. People don’t quite understand how devastating a .50 cal round is and how it disintegrates human bodies with even grazing shots. And the .50 cal heavy machine gun is standard equipment for basic military humvees. A large wall of meat bag zombies is a “Target rich environment” and it would take the length of an average heavy metal song to turn that horde into fertilizer before they ever got close. And humans would absolutely go back to their regularly scheduled programming afterwards and most likely have reality shows about the leftover zombies. It’s such a weirdly realistic ending that it makes it even funnier.
Originally came here for the reactions, now I'm just excited to see how Jax dresses up! lol. No but for real, you look so festive and I love that sweater! Great reaction as always, So glad you did this is one it's one of my favorite spooky season movies along with Tucker and Dale and Evil Dead 2! Keep up the great work Jax!!!
I dig the theme which is really just an examination of how lots of us wander through life like zombies. If you pay attention almost every person you see going about their life in the opening credits or in the background comes back as a zombie and if you pay attention the major ones all are still doing some gesture in their zombie form that is a direct callback to what we saw them doing in life. Even in death they are still stuck. It is fun sendup of the Zombie movie lots of references to the OG movies of zombie horror but also just dope on its own.
Lucy Davis, (Diane), also played Etta Candy in the first "Wonder Woman" movie, and Sabrina's aunt Hilda Spellman in "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina". In the director's commentary, it is revealed that Diane survived. She was found up a tree, still clutching David's leg.
It all started with the TV show called Spaced. There are a lot of callbacks to that in all three of the Cornetto trilogy! Spaced is a thing if it's time, but it's still worth a watch!
Lovely reaction as always. It's okay to be scared of horror films, some of those can get really horrible and we wouldn't want our Sunny Jax to lose her smile 😊.
I loved the mix of comedy and horror and, despite it being made to be funny, the fact that they have almost no idea what to do and have terrible aim, and no knowledge of how to use firearms, something extremely real and plausible. I love films like this, capable of mixing their elements, it's something that can capture your attention. I'm looking forward to the next one
Not only was the door unlocked, it was open a crack! Showing that while Pete accused Ed, it was totally Shaun who wasn't closing the front door as he was the one who went to the shop when everything started melting down. Seriously the layers of humor in this movie are so good. Some are subtle, some overt but it all makes for great comedy. Fun fact! There are DVD extras that indicate that after she ran out of the bar, Diane survived by climbing up a tree and surviving off David's leg
Most of the extras are fans of the Pegg/Stevenson comedy series 'Spaced' that Edgar Wright directed. They put out an open call for help making their movie to keep the budget down. Series 1 Episode 3 was the direct inspiration for the film with 'Tim' (Pegg) hallucinating after pulling an all nighter playing Resident Evil 2. Jessica Stevenson plays Yvonne of the 'alternatives' at 22:41
My favorite detail about this movie is Ed’s plan foreshadowing the whole movie: "Bloody Mary" - the girl in the garden, "Bite at the King's Head" - Philip gets bitten, "Couple" - David and Di, "At the Little Princess" - Liz, "Stagger back to the bar" - impersonate zombies, "For shots" - firing the rifle at the Winchester, and Shaun saying to “Kill the Queen” - Shaun’s mom, since Philip is “The King”
Hello Jax!😊 They actually show "Mary" the woman zombie in their yard, in the beginning intro of the film. She is in a line of cahiers in a store.😉 When Ed says on the phone "We're coming to get you Barbara" that is a callback to the original "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) and the famous line "They're coming to get you Barbara!". The film is a play on words of the George A. Romero film "Dawn of the Dead". Great reactions to this horror comedy, Jax!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
In my opinion, the most accurate depiction of what would happen if zombies became real. It would be chaos at first and then we would start using them for menial jobs and entertainment lol
This is such a great movie and so rewatchable. The script is amazing and it repeats itself before and after the zombie outbreak where they just slightly change the context.
If there is a zombie apocalypse I'm going to my local grocery store. It's a concrete building so you know it's secure. It has security gates which should be more than strong enough to hold off zombies. There are multiple entrances with easily barricadable doors, which means no zombies getting in and you have multiple directions to escape if you're surrounded. And, it being a grocery store, obviously has all the supplies you would ever need.
I'm an old fan of the "Dead" series. Night of the Living Dead (1968) being a serious endeavor, Dawn of the Dead (1978) was my favorite, and several Return of the Living Dead (1985) sequels that are quite over the top and comical as a result. This movie, not related to the series it is parodying, has a stronger narrative and better visual effects than any of the originals, to the extent that it surpasses the franchise, including the original.
You should be happy this was all you had to watch in this movie. Don't forget, the UK has a fairly large sheep population. 😏🤣 Then again, maybe you and Lamby would enjoy a movie about a zombie sheepocalypse? 🤔🤣 Hey, merch idea! "Zombie Sheepocalypse"!
Tucker And Dale Vs Evil is a good horror comedy for fans of this film. It’s picked up popularity over the years and is finally getting the love it deserves.
This is the movie with the maximum amount of foreshadowing. Advice never play dead ,unless it is a well set up trap. most times playing dead just allows your (insert what ever is coming after you ) the advantage of just walking up and ripping you apart. Also you don't kill people you dispatch Zombies ,killing people may just create more zombies.
Also, the reason you assumed zombies, apart from the word "dead", is likely because of the most famous zombie movie that this movie's title is parodying, "Dawn of the Dead". 😉
This is an Edgar Wright film, I can highly recommend watching more of them! Hot Fuzz (2007), Scott Pilgrim vs The World (2010), Baby Driver (2017), Ant-Man (2015) and The Adventures of Tintin (2011) are all great Edgar Wright films.
As a huge zombie fan, I have too admit my greatest shame... I never got the "We are coming to get you, Barbara" reference till it was explained to me over a decade after this movie came out, and after seeing it dozens of times.
When I was 15, I imagined Shaun being a single father and have 1 son named Alex [played by Isaac Hempstead-Wright, best known for playing *Bran Stark* from _Game of Thrones_ ] and the main reason he was dating Liz was because he needed his son to have a mom after his first one died in a car accident. Along the way, they meet some new friends and join their team. Such as 2 odd creatures that live inside cardboard boxes known as *boxtrolls* and a little girl named Jenny [played by Elle Fanning best known for playing live action Princess Aurora from _Maleficent_ & _Maleficent 2_ ] who is a classmate of Alex and they become friends after Alex saved her from school bullies. (Before Fish, one of the boxtrolls came to Alex's defense and saved him from the main bully, Nicholas). What do you think of all that? Note: The Boxtrolls is a 2014 movie that also has Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in it! *Spoiler alert:* Simon Pegg plays Isaac Hempstead-Wright's character, Eggs' dad and Nick Frost plays a villain-turned-into-hero thanks to Elle Fanning's character, Winnie. Plus, even have 2 main boxtrolls, Fish and his sidekick, Shoe. 😁
The first of three!! Four if she does Paul. More if she does the other Edgar Wright movies and Spaced. When he looks up the phone number for the restaurant, it was literally "The Place That Does All the Fish". Points to Shaun for running in to try to save the guy who just tried to shoot him. Diane lives.
For another not-too-scary zombie movie, Warm Bodies is a fun one. For more eerie/spooky, What Lies Beneath is great For Christmas, The Long Kiss Goodnight is a good action movie (and Samuel L Jackson's favorite acting role as of a few years ago)
😎👍 The best horror movies for people who aren't generally into horror movies are the animated ones. Of course, there's Tim Burton's trilogy, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993), "The Corpse Bride" (2005) and "Frankenweenie" (2012). There's also the great Laika Studios trilogy, "Coraline" (2009), "Paranorman" (2012) and "The Boxtrolls" (2014). There are a lot of great one-offs as well, like "Monster House" (2006) and "Igor" (2008). 👻
I like this type of comedy/horror zombie movie! Simon Pegg is hilarious! "Hot Fuzz" and "Paul" are 2 more movies with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost! I hope you get to watch them! Thanks Jax ❤️💛
I would love to see your reaction to "Little Miss Sunshine" (2006) A dark comedy about a dysfunctional family on a 2 days road trip from New Mexico to California, trying to get there in time for the younger kid's child beauty pageant. With: Abigail Breslin, Toni Collette, Steve Carell, Paul Dano
After the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, you need to check out the other Pegg/Frost project, "Paul". And I have to give my highest recommendation to Pegg's "Run Fatboy, Run", and Frost's "Cuban Fury".
2:19 "Things'll change. Promise." Don't do that, Shaun. Don't promise that things _will_ change. _Change_ something. Start with something small. Take Liz to a different pub. If you can't seem to manage the foresight to book a reservation some place _nice,_ at least take her some place _else._ You're in _London,_ for god's sake. It's a major, cosmopolitan city. Look around a little.
You should really get an axe and a crowbar if you don't have them, keep them in a closet in your bedroom incase of fire they're the tools that can save you in a pinch.
Definitely complete the Cornetto 'trilogy' now--Hot Fuzz & World's End are the other two movies. And some other 'horror' movies you should consider are Zombieland and its sequel, and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. For next October, of course.
Alarming. I once met my great grandmother and she just hocked up a massive lugey and that was it. Sucked. I hope the zombies don't eat comedians! Or that our heroes don't settle for emotional penury. A very sad tale no doubt.
Based on all the "slow zombie" movies out there, and everyone basing their Z-Day Apocalypse bug-out & battle plans on the "slow version", we'll all be pretty much f*ck*d if we get "fast zombies". (I won't spoil which franchise uses fast or slow zombies.)
As others have said, this is part of a trilogy, not in terms of story, but the actors etc... Hot Fuzz is the next one, and equally good, then it's The World's End and while that's probably the one i like the least, it's still great and well worth a watch as many people seem to stop after Hot Fuzz.
You have to watch 'HOT FUZZ' easily the best movie out of the Cornetto trilogy.
I kind of like Hot Fuzz, but this one's better. That one's just too much - too loud, too aggressive, too fast - watching it feels like having a migraine. I can understand why other people like it, but I just can't physically bear watching it.
Hot Fuzz is my least favourite.
Hot Fuzz is the worst in the trilogy. I honestly don’t understand why so many people like it so much.
Nobody tells me NUFFIN
Hot Fuzz used to be my favourite, but as I've gotten older World's End REALLY hits me where I live.
It's cornetto trilogy time with Jax!!!!!
Jax's ability to take a 2/10 scary movie and scare herself so much it becomes a 10/10 always delivers. Those scene changes sneak right up on you haha.

For more eerie/spooky, What Lies Beneath is great
For Christmas, The Long Kiss Goodnight is a good action movie (and Samuel L Jackson's favorite acting role as of a few years ago)
"I DID NOT call Diane a failed actress!"
Fun edit! I like how so many of the jokes in the first parts came back around.
The perfect movie to double feature with this is "Zombieland". Same idea, different execution. Both great.
REALLY ENJOYED your reaction! 👍☺
It never occured to me that the actress who played his mom was also in downton abbey
Will you be reacting to deadpool & Wolverine
Great reaction, Jax! Have a zombaid weekend! Lol.
Fun fact, Diane survived. She made it through the crowd of zombies and hid in a tree.
I like this type of comedy/horror zombie movie! Simon Pegg is hilarious! "Hot Fuzz" and "Paul" are 2 more movies with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost! I hope you get to watch them! Thanks Jax ❤️💛
I would love to see your reaction to "Little Miss Sunshine" (2006)
A dark comedy about a dysfunctional family on a 2 days road trip from New Mexico to California, trying to get there in time for the younger kid's child beauty pageant.
With: Abigail Breslin, Toni Collette, Steve Carell, Paul Dano
So glad you are getting to these gems.
Hot Fuzz
The Worlds End
Paul
All brilliantly done. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Jax
After the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, you need to check out the other Pegg/Frost project, "Paul". And I have to give my highest recommendation to Pegg's "Run Fatboy, Run", and Frost's "Cuban Fury".
This movie gets even better when you watch "Spaced"
I can't wait to get home and get into this one. This one is on my top 5
FIdo (2006) would be another not too scary (I think) zombie movie
2:19 "Things'll change. Promise."
Don't do that, Shaun.
Happy Friday
There's a great show called Spaced with these actors. It's a hoot and a half.
Nice sweater!
You should really get an axe and a crowbar if you don't have them, keep them in a closet in your bedroom incase of fire they're the tools that can save you in a pinch.
You should watch the Exorcist, just go all or nothing with it lol
Definitely complete the Cornetto 'trilogy' now--Hot Fuzz & World's End are the other two movies. And some other 'horror' movies you should consider are Zombieland and its sequel, and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. For next October, of course.
Hot fuzz needs to be next if you haven't seen it. You can thank me later :D
Her- Ah. She’s from Downtown Abby
Me- It’s Harriet Jones Former Prime Minister.
We know who she is!
So good!!! Yay cornetto trilogy!!!! ❤
i absolutely love this movie. glad you watched it Jax 🙂🤘😎
You will like the TV show Spaced. From the same creators. Also features many of the actors in the trilogy.
Ed in the shed. Shades of Dr. Seuss.
Happy Jaxday. Have you seen the live action trailer for "How to train your dragon"?
During the embalming process the brain is removed. As well as other things and all organic moisture.
Off course he has an axe... Cos lamb(y) chops.
We gotta get Jax introduced to Queen. What do you think, start with Day at the Races or Night at the Opera?
Quite a few of the cast have appeared in Doctor Who.
Alarming. I once met my great grandmother and she just hocked up a massive lugey and that was it. Sucked. I hope the zombies don't eat comedians! Or that our heroes don't settle for emotional penury. A very sad tale no doubt.
What about the Cuban Juan of the Dead? Yeah it's not as good but still worth a watch still.
PAUL is also brilliant. With the two same guys.
Notice Martin 'Dr Watson/Young Bilbo' Freeman
Except for the eating people, it's kind of hard to tell when they turned into zombies.
