I have never been so hyped about the release of a new album. I already feel nostalgic for a decade I wasn't even born in. Only John Mayer with 80s vibes can do this
I've liked Mayer since around 2000. R4S's is still his best. But, This album is a cry for help. He's going back to his youth for inspiration because he has no wife or kids. It's the one thing that can really fulfill your life.

I definitely agree with your last statement. Born and Raised is my personal favourite, but SOB Rock has a great cohesive feel while playing with a new aesthetic and offering some variety as well. A very well curated group of songs. Making a song ranking is hard because the album is still very fresh, so my list keeps changing... but at this point I would rank this way (and it must be noted that even the lowest ranked are still good songs):

By the time I was born the '80s were already over, but that overall '80s vibe still hung around in the early '90s. This is so impressively spot on, the details that I recognize from my childhood when that vibe was still lingering.

I’ve been telling anyone that will listen that this is gonna be John’s best album since Continuum!
But not better than Continuum. You can’t raise the bar after perfect.
I don't think this will be near continuum's level of consistent yet varied musical approach, this seems more like the kind of album that will focus less on the actual musical content and more on production and selling the whole thing as a package, might be a good album but people sell out and that's unfortunately what John has done.
Definitely not better than Continuum. That place in time cannot be replicated or outdone. (Though my personal favorite album is actually Heavier Things, I can acknowledge that Continuum is his best work) I stand by my prediction that this will be his best/most-likable album since Continuum.
@@discgolflists I favour room for squares over everything else, with Continuum a close second. Just listening to last train home, that song doesn't even compare to any song on RFS or Continuum. Those two albums have an iconic song every track, maybe it will be more popular, but as my professional opinion as a musician, I'm not expecting huge things.
