Lyrics:
If you wanna roll me, then you gotta roll me all night long
And if you wanna use me, then you gotta use me til I’m gone
I’m not a fallen angel, I just fell behind
I’m out of luck and I’m out of time
If you don’t wanna love me, let me go
I’m runnin for the last train
I’m runnin for the last train home
If you wanna know me, then you gotta know me through and through
And if you’re gonna hurt me, then you gotta hold me next to you
No matter how you work it, things go wrong
I put my heart where it don’t belong
So if you’re comin with me let me know
Maybe you’re the last train
Maybe you’re the last train home
I’m on the last train runnin
I’m on the last train runnin
And I surrender
And I surrender

The audio engineer deserves a huge raise. Excellent job on this, dude nailed it!
It's so perfect I almost wonder if there's some supplemental backing track going on in there. But then again, I'm familiar with some of the session players in his rhythm section and know they're indeed top notch. I'm so confused anymore...
@@weslikestoplayguitar6767 Obviously...all the backing/click tracks start when John hits the "start button" with his foot at the 0:03 mark.
Perfect mix.
💯 I thought the same. Even John's voice sounds great. Sometimes his voice sounds really pitchy but the balance was obviously good on stage too.
@@robgrizzle1293 its clearly not pre recorded, a few effects maybe and a click track, but its very obvious back to back on high end equipment it sounds totally different and the tempo is also different to the album. It's very fucking well done live.
Man this sounds like a 80's/90's song complete with an electric guitar solo. I love it!
Kinna has the tune to Africa by toto
80’s and 90’s are actually really different
@@jpdomingo4317 thats because the keys player is the guy from Toto who wrote the same song
@@iamrichlol Not quite. Greg Phillinganes has played with Toto off and on since 2005, but David Paich played keys on Africa and co-wrote the song with Jeff Porcaro.
But Lenny Castro plays percussion on this song, and did the same on Africa while also touring with Toto.
I don’t know why Mayer gets a bad rap, dude is the only one keeping guitar music and blues alive in the mainstream, fair play to the bloke.
I listened to this while on the Staten Island ferry from NY to Staten Island.. stood at the stern by myself blasting this on my headphones looking back at the New York skyline .... that moment comes up every time I hear this song.
Aaaaa🎸🖤🎵
Last ferry home
I always try to connect some song in moments like those. This would definitely be a top notch song in that moment!
This era of John’s album is really somethin else!!!
Aaaaa yes🎸🎵🖤
Salam dari malaysia john mayer genius of music 80s 90s.hehehe
Ladies and gentlemen, here's John Mayer single-handedly keeping the music of the legends alive.
My ears have been blessed. Thanks John, for bringing to us top quality music
🎵🎸🖤
His Eric Clapton transformation is nearly complete. 😎😂

@@chapmanure I agree
Actually, he's doing it using both hands. But yes, this is pure gold.
John just casually makes the greatest music ever like it’s nothing
🍰 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎸💗
Yup
His songs are good, yes. But i wouldn't call it the greatest music ever? Not even close
@@PaleCaretaker Just remember " beauty is in the eye of the beholder ".John Mayer makes songwriting look so easy because he has a special gift and a sensitivity to heal hearts. Everyone is entitled to their own interpretations.
Watched him perform in a thunderstorm at Isleta. Amazing. Transcendent.
If there's a video of John singing, I'll play it.
If there’s a video of John, I’ll play it.
If there's John, I'll play it.
John, I'll play it.

John's vocals have improved so much since his surgery, the album is really good and him and his music have aged like fine wine.
Yes! His voice is warmer and more controlled, almost matching his guitar 🎸
🖤🎵🎸
@@axel.lessio I was wondering why his voice sounded so much like André Martins. It is André Martins.
Thank you for that comment. I was wondering why André Martins voice was coming out of John Mayer´s mouth. It also seems as if André Martins wrote the songs as well.
@@stephaniemartins5881, this is John Mayer's official YT channel so no, it cannot be another person singing.
The bongo player is GETTING it!
that's Lenny Castro, yo! He's played with Toto, and he is the GOAT.
He’s playing congas here and yes, he’s a legend in the music industry
Goat
FR though
Pro bono pro bongo
Hey that’s the guitar like Tomo got. What an awesome all around guy.
It’s from his PRS signature series line. Don’t own one but specs are pretty good.
Tomo, I hoje you can make good sound and music with this guitar!
Keep safe!
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think John actually gave Tomo that pink silver sky as a gift.
@@Thill1116 yes he did. He gifted several of his friends that guitar
Haha none these guys get your sarcasm
Smart, original, good looking (perfect), great player, joy to listen and watch
0:34 His hands have developed so well during his guitar playing career that they can now teleport....
Spot on. Noticed that immediately
Wtf.
they do multiple takes so as to splice the clips i think
Yeah this hurt a little to see. I know it's not a big deal, but for a live clip it's a little annoying to me
@@user-zp8vg7hk6w i know, but it’s funny to see
Rosie liked that guitar🤩
I think her covering that song was the best promo he could ever hope to have received 😁
Aaaaaaaaa🖤🖤🖤🖤🎸
who’s rosie?
as in his song...?
@@retro4454 Her real name is Rosé, She covered John's song, Slow Dancing in a Burning Room past weeks ago. Her cover got viral and noticed by John himself. John gave her the pink guitar to thank her.
July 16th, 2021. One of the best days of my life. (:
Could totally see John opening a show with this, similarly to how he opened shows with Belief
Yaaaaa
When I saw him he opened with Heartbreak Warfare, and that was just so epic
@@eajensen4979 The first time I went to see him I remember my dad asking me just before the show is he going to play that song and I said I wasn't too sure because he hadn't played it yet on the search for everything tour. Funny enough first song he opened with!😂🤘🎸 Pure awesomeness! We all jumped up with excitement haha!😂
Johnny Depp is a man with many talents
Boomer, you must be older than this joke
@@kaushikravindran3587 Pathetic joke
Hehe and now it’s back to Pirates.
Hahahah
Good 1.
How 80's can you get when you have legendary keyboard player Greg Phillinganes in your band. The man is playing keyboard since the late 70's for the likes of Michael Jackson and many many other and now for the legend of this century, John Mayer!
Not just Phillinganes, but he straight up took Lenny Castro from Toto to play percussion for him!
This is what music supposed to sound like
Wow the solo at the end! Honestly, one of my favorite performances of his ever.
Yeah, I knew hearing the original track that they left a lot of room to breathe with improvisation at the end, good to see it being used live. Bodes well for his tour this year
THAT GUITAR SOLO!
The bit at 0.13/14. Always gets me. His face. And I wonder how he's feeling just a nano second before ? Oh yeah.
That guitar sounds HOT. Damn I like what he's running these days.
PRS into a Dumble usually
Clapton's old Journeyman rig apparently
2:38 Look at his face... God, what a legend!
Let bring back the 80s... Whos with me!!!!
it's been back since like 2015 so we're good haha
Beautiful song.. John Mayer is such a legend. Rosé just covered his slow dancing in a burning room and he gifted her his new pink guitar. 💗
He did? That is awesome 😊
JOHN WONDERFULL!!!!!!!❤💯👋🤚👍👍👍👍
How great it must be to accidentally find this, be blown away by it and then go through his back catalogue? Nothing better .
Great great great music. John Mayer is phenomenal. But having Lenny Castro, Greg Phillinganes and others in the background is definitely a huge part of the magic.
John has more talent in the tip of his index finger, than 90% of the artists out there combined.
I love so many different genres, all its about is talent and quality. But John will always be number 1!
Its skill not talent, most of it is practice, talent is around 15%. I think you should praise his dedication instead of pure luck that he was born with talent
@@hadiffnazhan862 versatility, don't forget that
@@jean-paulvaljean2206 mhm that too, he covered voodoo chile and made new light, he's hitting all sorts of ranges of genres
@@hadiffnazhan862 I think you shouldnt decide that you know better than me what i meant with what i said. Don´t assume you know what i meant, i utterly despise that attitude of deciding what others meant with what they wrote.
@@sunejrgensen8516 well what do you mean then. Im pretty sure its not mine or anyone's fault that they perceive words written on a screen differently than what the writer intended. What you should do instead of being defensive is reiterate your words. Or just dont do anything at all ngl
This is my neighbour's new favourite song. Whether they like it or not! ;-)
John Mayer always reminds me to Erick Clapton playing Layla at the Madison Square concert in 1999. It would be awesome to see them performing together.
A classic now...congrats man
We should really appreciate the camera man for shooting and choosing the angle, just perfect
I love how the TV production guys step up their game for a quality act like John, this would've been good enougth for a main music vid just a few years back! It looks ace!
The smooth guitar riffs, so melodic as always. I've always digged the long hair too. Looking 🔥🔥🔥
:* and this is it.. cause it's everything, music, lyrics and voice.
This performance deserves millions and millions of views
Time machine is working 🎶🎵🎶🎶🎸💗
This would fit in perfectly on the August album by Clapton in 1986 .Love the song and the sound of the guitar and keyboards
I hear so much Eric Clapton / Journey Man album sound and also some Toto here...in a very good way. For me the very best John Mayer song in many many years. Love it!
That tone is so god damn good. 🥵
Amsterdam lov- U bruf!!!!
This was lit. Much better than his Kimmel appearance. John's just always going to be THAT GUY...
What guy
@@bobsmith3291 THAT. Guy.
@@bobsmith3291 oh come on, Bob! 😡
Very unnecessary rude comment.
@@andrewbarrientes1625 exactly. THAT one.
My husband encountered the Holy Spirit during their devotional prayer and touched his shoulder and said unto him, "GET PEOPLE"... Tears on his eyes started to flow without noticing he is crying already and he open his eyes and try to catch who touched him but no one near him. He thought he is crazy for thinking that weird thing but he asked the Lord to guide him whatever purposes He wanted to my him and he surrendered himself to Jesus. Now, the transformation I saw, that my children and I started to have our devotional prayer and learning to read the bible and listen to the words of the Lord with the leadership of hubby. Before, I seldom read the bible and even my children as well. I also noticed my husband is excited to attend mass to worship Jesus Christ, never happened before after our marriage, I was the one always reminding them to go to catholic church and attend Sunday mass... Until this moment we can not tell what is the plan of our Lord for my husband, it is a huge responsibilities and lots of sacrifices to face and even rejection but we offer this services to the Lord above and we believe in Him... Thank you Lord for keeping us always in our side even we tried to do our own ways.
Btw love that pink guitar
I saw the rains down in Africa
This is very much indebted to Eric Clapton's "August" - wow.
LENNY! GREG!! The best of the best....with John Mayer....he sure knows how to pick
It's My birthday today and all I want is to watch this ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
80’s nostalgia to the max!
1:06 the lightning and camara Work are amazing too 😲
My great John Mayer
The sound quality of this performance is absolutely insane!
Its scary to think he probably hasn't even hit is musical stride yet. Always expanding his boundaries.
GENIUS!!!! Cheers from ARGENTINA
god that tone is something i strive for i swear...only reason i doubt getting a les paul in the slightest and why im getting a strat style in the future
Best tone Clapton ever had. Glad John brought it back! Killer.
this is just bloody brilliant
i'm a simple woman, I see john- I click
The best ever 💕😍😍💕💕😍😍💕
Thank you, John.
John Mayer Number One.
You cannot run from the harmony of 80's. Best music era to me
I like this song so much.
he is so great man
I feel ya mayer, I feel ya
How can his Riffs be 110% on point? He is a guitar God!
It’s unreal!! I LIVE for how he just goes off with them in mostly All his live performances 🙌🥵
Can't wait to hear the BLUES TRIO version of this song!
This is so f...ing good!!
John, so good brother!!
Good song. I miss rock & roll.
i love how everything is very dull colors, then you see the pink guitar.
I got here right after Gloria Estefan's Get On Your Feet, and it was the perfect change of scenery without leaving the city, so to speak.
GUITAR SOLO WAS 🔥
So. Damn. Good.
The key board reminds of me Africa by Toto. And I love this song!
Icons Greg Philinganes (keyboard) and Lenny Castro (percussion) making this song that much stronger!
Was that Greg? I thought he should've had Nathan East there as well

what a blessing
Old John boy don’t forget
I love this song too
Awesome just pure JM!
For someone who can shred the guitar(like crazy), he really knows how to tame himself and just chill with it. Now that's what makes the big difference.
He just knows how to not overpower a song, he talks about it with his interview with Apple music. He just likes to be in the background and make subtle changes to each verse
I love you john
"África" vibes all around! John even covered that song not too long ago... There's a video on YT
Notice anything familiar about the percussionist?
DAMN. SSSSSOOOOOO GOOOOOD
He is advancing in making a great legendary name for himself. A brilliant smooth cruisy album high up in my collection. Feels like he gets better every decade. Has a bit of Daryl Hall's live room about him. Challenges Hall and Oats among many others in style too! Great if some younger ones take a leaf out of Mayer's book! Maybe looks casual, but style is far from that! Seriously excellent!
We need 'A Shot in the Dark' live, like yesterday
Man, this feels like late 80s clapton
Man the snare was super tight
John turns me into a puddle of equal parts angst , tears & fangirl sweat
Single handedly bringing guitar back to the fore. Thank you.
When the people around you are so rational, know everything better, and you sit there and you turn the radio on in your head and it goes like: "I'm on the last train runnin'
I'm on the last train runnin'
And I surrender And I surrender"
" GREAT SCOT ! MARTY ... WHAT YEAR IS THIS ???? ! " HOLY 80's ! LOVED IT BIG TIME !
This man makes the guitar the for front of the song and it’s just so fucking good. Like the little licks he dose while singing. One of the legends of modern music!
0:35 this was not done in 1 take (his left hand). Still great
solid catch

What an amazing guitarist and vocalist. That guitar solo blew my mind, loved the improvisation and vibrato.
Thank you!!
The bend up to the D# near the end is so satisfying
