The one you missed after Willie Nelson is the legendary Al Jarreau. You need to check out "We're In this Love Together", "Moonlighting", and "Mornin". His voice is like silky butter! The one after Bruce was Kenny Loggins, who did "Danger Zone". Your next of his should be "Footloose" or "I'm Alright". After Steve Perry of Journey was Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates. Right before Cyndi Lauper was Huey Lewis (without The News). Congratulations, Jay & Amber, on the first anniversary of your musical awakening!
Yes! Thank you! I was like, is that Al Jarreau? I turn 44 years old in a week and I’m already forgetting the artists of the 80s 🤦🏼♀️
Al Jarreau's version of Take Five is spectacular, too...
They also missed James Ingram (he was the guy you asked about at the end, Amber) and Kim Carnes (right after Cyndi Lauper).
Don't forget his top hit... I can be what I want to and all I need is to get my boogie down. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
“After All” by Al Jareau and “Meet Me Half Way” by Kenny Logins are definite musts!
When Bruce first sang his part during the recording session, he sang it smoothly in what he thought was his best voice. Quincy Jones, who produced it, was a bit taken aback and said,."No, sing it like Bruce, man!" Bruce then did his rough sound, and Quincy said, "Now that's what we're looking for!"
Sometimes i hear him sing and the raspy voice isn't there which i find disappointing nevertheless he sounds great.
I agree his raspy voice is his trademark and it's what makes him good, ironically he doesn't have it in one of his best songs, Glory Days. @@AH-sl2je
Well the documentary said other history
Netflix’s “The Greatest Night in Pop” brought me back here again. I remember like yesterday, hearing this song on the radio back in 1985. Still hits hard in 2024.
OMG - That would be a great show for you guys to react to!! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT!!!
@@StardustKevinwatching Netflix now 🎉🎉🎉
Literally just got done watching it! I have to say, I didn't expect to discover that Stevie Wonder was basically an agent of chaos through the whole night of recording.
After all these years wondering...I was shook at how it all came together. A night to remember for sure. and a side note I had no idea Dan Akroyd was there.
Such a great documentary. I had no idea they did this all in one night! Sad thought to know so many are no longer with us. And how they did Sheila E was wrong too. But this song was and still is one of my favorites. Gives me chills to listen to it.
The guy with the soulful voice (10:44) is James ingram, very very humble and underrated artist. He wrote arguably the best song on Michael's Thriller album, Pretty young thing and a has few solid hits of his own, he was a force in the 80s, he also did the soundtrack for the American tail animation cartoon in 80s, check out the song, somewhere out there. - he just passed away few years back but he was an amazing artist
I love that song on the American tail album and I didn't know he wrote pyt
How do you keep the music playing...❤
@@FeliciaElsa Just Once, 100 ways. Gotta love James Ingram
James Ingram!! One of the GREATEST singers ever! Listen to "Better Way" from Beverly Hills Cop II ... you'll be BLOWN AWAY! RIP to James Ingram! ❤
‘Somewhere Out There’ always makes me cry.
As I recall, they recorded this after the Grammys. Basically, staying up all night to record it. It still moves me after all these years.
American Music Awards.
They were all told to leave their egos at the door. And they did.
after the AMAs - and theres a documentary on UA-cam on how they did the song - its really good and fun to watch them together acting silly and whatnot
James Ingram is the guy you keep asking about. Listen to Just Once or I Don’t Have the Heart. He also did a great job with Linda Ronstadt on Somewhere Out There. He has a solo for a reason!
Oh I love these songs! Yessss
No Easy Way.... 100 Ways
James Ingram also did a great duet with Michael McDonald: Yah Mo Be There.
Absolutely. Been ages since I've heard his songs.
I don’t have the heart is awesome
When this song came out, I was working at a radio station in Seattle. There was a thing where every radio station in the country was supposed to play it at a specific time. When the time came, we plugged it in. IO went to a radio and acanned all 44 radio stations in Seattle. Every one of them was playing We Are The World. Rock, pop country news/talk, sports/talk, Christian, every one of them. I still get shivers when I remember it.
Which radio station? I was owning and operating an independent record store in Seattle in 1985 (and for ten years before that and for 10 years after that) and, of course, "We Are the World" was our best selling 45 of that year and probably of every other year as well.
Wow amazing
I remember that in the Bay Area of California too!!
Same here. I was at Q107 in Charleston, SC and we took part in that. We checked the other stations in town also and they were all playing it. It made me tear up a little bit but I was only 17 so everything made me emotional. LOL
I remember that! So cool to hear it on every single station.
The sad thing is how many of these artists are no longer with us. Beautiful song.❤❤❤❤
Ty the music lives on.❤❤❤
😢 Yes, sad so many gone, RIP legends now from 1985 golden years of music

Thank you so much! I keep confusing James Ingram for Jeffrey Osbourne!
Jeffrey Osborne was in the back and Jay thought he was Billy Ocean!
When you have such a powerhouse lineup that Bette Midler is only in the chorus….
@@carlaharrington5120 Me too!
That is James Ingram. He and Linda Ronstandt did a song called Somewhere Out There from the movie American Tail. You should do it, it is beautifully done by those two artists
Kinda painful to see kenny rogers and James Ingram next to each other knowing they are just one year apart passing away.
Love that song, both versions. Prefer the in-movie version, though, only because it’s Fievel and his sister, Tanya, sweetly singing it slightly off-key.
James Ingram. Just once. One of best all time songs.
Am I the only one who sees a passing resemblance between Jay and James Ingraham?
I would very much suggest "I don't have the heart" from the "it's real" album, not the new version
This was literally the biggest music event of the '80s. You'll never see the collection of talent that assemble back in 1985. It was like the Avengers of Music Assembling.
Actually the biggest event of the 80s was Live Aid as the live summit of all the songs, artists and bands from all over the world contributing. Certainly the biggest live music event ever.
@@TheSpookyDuke You got that right! Queen brought down the house
I cry every time I hear this and now it's also for the ones that are in this amazing group that are no longer with us in earth. Thank God we'll always have their music!
@Derek Holcomb There’s a whole lotta talent.
Nice talent for cheldren
So, I’m old enough to remember when this happened. I think it’s really important for you, and everyone else of your generation to research what was happening in Ethiopia, Africa in 1985 to create this. It wasn’t just about music, it was a massive effort to raise money to save people from starvation. Children were so malnutritioned and so dehydrated we saw their skeletal bone structure. It was horrific.

Great job.
Jay & Amber, that wasn't Billy Ocean, it was Jeffery Osborne.
@@LibraKing3121 yes, you are correct.
James Ingram sings before Tina, Al Jarreau after Willie Nelson, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall as the trio, Huey Lewis and Kim Carnes on either side of Cindi Lauper. James Ingram did a duet with your girl Linda Ronstadt for an animated movie “An American Tail”. “Just Once” is one of his songs you should check out.
James Ingram was a protege of Quincy Jones's, so it's no surprise Q had him on the song.
J doesn’t like slow jams, but they should listen to Secret Garden by Q. Barry Whits , El Debarge. Ingram and Al B Sure. There is a live version somewhere on UA-cam.
And Yah Mo B There with Michael McDonald!
Harry Belafonte is briefly seen. Check out his song Day-O ( the banana song). Who Jay called Billie Ocean is Jeffrey Osborne. Check him singing Oh Holy Night if you can find it or any of his hits, maybe Baby Stay With me Tonight. And Dionne Warwick(Jay was close)
James Ingram was an amazing singer. His two biggest hits as I recall were his duet with Patti Austin "Baby Come to me" and "I don't have the heart" .
When everyone sings with their heart, it’s beautiful! When Bruce Springsteen sings he does it with his heart and his guts: and it becomes big! Respect for the Boss!
The guy you said was Billy Ocean, he is Jeffrey Osborne, one of the great artists that actually had success with a group and great solo success. He was the former lead singer of the legendary R&B/ Soul group LTD, with many funk hits and love ballads from the 70’s, and he went solo in the 80’s and had great r&B and pop success, and he is still performing and touring today.
On The Wings of Love - Jeffrey Osborne. Another amazing singer part of this group. This is a gorgeous love song from the 80s and Jeff Osborne has a rich baritone voice that really is displayed in this song.
Love to see you react to him also.
Where is Jeffrey Osborne?
On the Wings of Love-- All 👏Day👏Long👏 TOTAL couples skate song, love it SOOOOO much!!! 🥰
@@shannonhenson609 He’s at 9:52, in between Kenny Loggins and Lindsey Buckingham.
My personal favourite song of his is “You Should Be Mine”. Still have my dad’s original mixtape collection from my infant years in El Salvador & that song has always resonated with me since then.
He called Jeffrey Osborne Billy Ocean and Billy Ocean is not in this video.
One of the guys in the background crowd was Harry Belafonte. Definitely recommend checking out some of his songs, they're fun! Some options include "Shake Senora" and "Day-O".
Standing next to Harry Belafonte is Dan Ackroyd, of SNL and Ghostbusters. Looking rather out of place.
“Jump in the line” not Shake Senora. Not tryna be a jerk, just hoping to make it easier for them to look it up with the correct title. Love both of those selections.
Yes!! Both of those are musts!
"Day-O" is also known as "The Banana Boat Song".
Try to remember is the smoothest ballad from Harry Belafonte: crooner heaven, that should be one for J

I would not suggest that the song I am about to suggest is better than We Are The World, but when Haiti had its earthquake, Canada did a tribute song, Wavin' Flag as done by Young Artists For Canada. It is quite a good song - but I am in no way saying it is as good as We Are The World - but is certianly worth a listen. Check it out.

@@tiacalhoun3841 Let me know what you think of it once done. It is quite a good tune, when all is said and done.
BILLY JOEL!!!
More than just Piano Man.
You need a deep dive into one of the greatest songwriter/singers EVER!!
You’ve reacted to some of his “subpar” stuff.
Try- “She’s Always A Woman To Me”,
“New York State of Mind”, “Innocent Man”, “The Stranger”……the list goes on and on.
Don't forget Just The Way You Are, Honesty, Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, For The Longest Time , Goodnight Saigon. And this is still a short list considering all the great songs he had.
Overall, I think "Allentown" is my favorite of his, but he has many good ones.
I just saw Billy Joel again at MSG last week. He is my favorite. Wish they'd react to Only the Good Die Young
I remember when he was the first American artist to tour the former USSR after the Berlin Wall fell... He drew the second biggest crowd behind Metallica's epic performance there.
New York State of mind, Italian restaurant, for the longest time, still rock and roll to me, moving out.
My favourite parts are Springsteen and Wonder duetting together and James Ingram’s last chorus. The part were he says “so let’s start giving” always gives me chills.😊
A Bruce Stevie collab album would be interesting 😊
Never forget this song when it play on the radio over & over again.1985
Yes Jordan, that was Steve Perry from Journey, and right after him was Daryl Hall from Hall and Oates. After Cindy was Kim Carnes who sings “Bettie Davis Eyes” which you’ve reacted to.
You’re a Vet, Patty 👏👏 I’ve been a MASSIVE Hall & Oates fan for years and never realized that was Daryl
These were REAL stars who came together. Sadly we are so incredibly divided I don’t think we’ll ever see anything like this again in our lifetime
That guy is mr. JAMES INGRAM.such a powerful voice.
We must remember the cause was for starving people of Ethiopia & East Africa this is why these wonderful artists gathered. They did an amazing thing for humanity, more than we see today. I remember when I first heard this, my heart was in despair for the starving but my heart also was filled with joy for what the singers accomplished 💔❤️🩹☮️🇨🇦. We are the World - we have to do better, we are one 🫶🏽
Hey Jay! Hey Amber! You guys did a great job! You've already had some good help with naming some of the other artists, but I'll try to add some further help, if I can: At 2:38 & 10:15, that's James Ingram. Some of his hits are: JUST ONCE, ONE HUNDRED WAYS, and I DON'T HAVE THE HEART, along with a duet with Patti Austin: BABY COME TO ME, and a duet with Michael McDonald: YA MO BE THERE.
@ 4:12 Al Jarreau, @ 4:26 Kenny Loggins, @ 5:10 "Journey" was Steve Perry, @ 5:18 Darryl Hall (Hall & Oates), @ 5:28 Huey Lewis (Huey Lewis & The News), @ 5:40 Kim Carnes, @ 6:15 John Oates (Hall & Oates), @ 9:53 "Billy Ocean" is really Jeffrey Osborne.
Other artists seen: Dan Aykroyd (The Blues Brothers), Harry Belafonte, Marlon Jackson, LaToya Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Sheila E, Bette Midler, The Pointer Sisters, Lindsey Buckingham, and more.... The conductor was Quincy Jones!
great rundown of the unrecognized singers
And Kim Carnes (sp) too
nice summary of some that were unfamiliar to the kids. good job fireside.
I caught a couple of these artists! Good job!
The guy you asked about is James Ingram. You've heard him sing with Linda Ronstadt on "Somewhere Out There" if the kids have watched "American Tail" The bearded guy you didn't know was Kenny Loggins, and the blonde lady was Kim Carnes. Yu also saw many members of the Jackson family as well as Bette Midler, Harry Belafonte and The Pointer Sisters. I'm sure I missed a few....but...there you go.
Yes!!! Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram together is pure bliss!
I don't think there has ever been more talent in one place at the same time ever
Remember when Paul Simon said, "If a bomb dropped on this place, Bob Denver is back on top"? That was real because all the top artists in the US were there.
I loved the documentary about this song! Michael skipped the awards show to start recording before the other singers; they all came directly from the show late at night; they recorded the chorus first and the individual voices later; they all sang Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) from Harry Belafonte just for fun; they had to stop recording when Cindy Lauper sang because her necklaces where making too much noise; they all asked for each-others autographs, etc. All in all an awesome night!
Or bracelets
I wish more people today knew Harry Belafonte’s music. Such a smooth voice and so much joy and passion in his singing!
People could react to this song a thousand times and I'd watch it and love it every time. James Ingram was absolutely amazing. I feel like he should have been way more popular than he was because his voice was definitely something special.
Footloose - Kenny Loggins (He’s the one who Amber first paused on with the beard who you didn’t know.). It’s his most popular song, and just an energetic 80s fun banger! Love to see you react that one!
Love his "Danny's Song"
The greatest moment in music history. Once in a lifetime. Blessed to have been able to see it when it happened.

This was my childhood. I was 10 at the time, and I already knew so much about many of these artists. Not long after this song was released, my family took place in “Hands across America” where we drove to an pre-determined section of the interstate outside of our St. Louis home to join hands as part of a human chain across the country.
Same, I was also 10/11 at the time....and only about 2.5 hours north! Glad we took part in this era/event together! 80's/90's were the greatest times of my life! ✌
@@tommykirkland3140 The world was smaller then. As a kid, the music and all the events surrounding it was just so big. When you turned on the radio, it wasn’t just background. The music was almost family, and the songs became part of the fabric of who you were. I’ve spent decades building a productive and meaningful life, but man, what I wouldn’t give to just go back for a few days and just hang out in my room with my radio and MTV.
The BRILLIANCE of Quincy Jones and how he put the specific voices together that he did is genius.
He managed to make a room full of egomaniacs sound like a church choir. 😝 In addition, each artist was allowed to make their own trademark stamp on it.
I think Michael Omartian was the vocal producer. And I don't know if he got a nomination for it.....but he needed to! Cuz these pairings are so unexpected and worked so well. We would have never known how much we needed a call and response from Bruce Springstein and Stevie Wonder!!
Yes I agree 👍💯
The pairing of Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder is just genius. Their voices play together so well even though they are so different.

🌎 J & Amber: Of all your reactions, this is my favorite and here’s why: I’ve watched your journey on this channel and seen SO much growth in your appreciation for music. You’ve brought an abundance of joy to so many of the RSR family along the way.
When you first reacted to We Are The World, you did fine. But “just listening” to a song versus deeply understanding & appreciating the nuances of the artists behind it are two different things. The contrast between the two reactions for the exact same song are palpable just in your body language alone. It’s a wonderful thing seeing you enrich your lives, your kids’ lives and our lives with your musical journey.
Wishing you continued success and happiness! 💞
I couldn't agree more with you. As I was watching this video I thought exactly the same.

So well said...J & Amber youve brought so much joy to our family.
If you watch Bruce during his later solo parts closely, you see him tearing up and blinking then closing his eyes to hold them back. I think this just shows how emotional both the song is and some singers can get.
If you watch the BTS, it’s here on UA-cam and hosted by Jane Fonda, Bob Geldof (he was the one behind Band Aid the Do They Know It’s Christmas) told a 1st hand account of the famine in Ethiopia before they started recording. Also Stevie Wonder brought in an Ethiopian woman who had gone through it.

This song just gets better and better with every passing decade. These artists are all legends, and the message is timeless. Hopefully one day we will have ☮️ on 🌍
Would be wonderful to get todays top artists to sing in harmony to a song, part II of this composition....
Younger people never recognize Daryl Hall of Hall and Oates, the most successful popular duo of all time. His voice was my favorite from not just the era, but perhaps the last 60 years.
To be Fair - Daryl Hall doesn't look like that Anymore - I came to him "backwards" via Live from Daryl's House and it took me a second to recognize him.
My good friends sister in law is married to John Oates....
Never is a strong choice of words.
.. and they've reacted to several Hall & Oates songs and don't recognize him.
Youngs do not even recognize Steve Wonder, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles etc...
Don't leave out the great Quincy Jones conducting the crew. I think he has the most Grammy's of anyone, and he had the clout and influence to bring this crew together and direct through something special. I love that they had a sign "check your egos at the door" to make all this work. What's even more amazing is the ones who did not get solos like Lindsey Buckingham and a few others. The stars aligned on this one.
There’s an awesome new show on Netflix right now showing the making and production of this song and video. Very interesting!!!
This brings tears. I was in my early 20s, I remember all of these artists. I love seeing younger people experiencing this for the first time
The singer you didn't know was someone you have reacted to: James Ingram (100 ways). Right before Cindy Lauper was Kenny Loggins, Huey Lewis, and Kim Carnes. You might want to react to Kenny Loggins" "This Is It". Also there was a very smooth crooner: Al Jerreau.
Hope this helps you guys…. 😊 thanks for the video!

@@stevevar43 than you sir... me bad... :)

@@linrn53 thats not Whitney, it is one of the Pointer Sisters
So many amazing singers with their own approach to their lines makes this song legendary! Especially the combo of Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder is amazing - it always brings tears to my eyes.
This song touches so deeply. I'm a big fan of so many of those artists, but every time I hear Ray's voice, the already big lump in my throat triples in size. He appears a few seconds later and I totally burst into tears. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I'm not even mad about it. It's good to feel so deeply. ❤️
This was recorded after an awards show. Instead of going to an after-party, they all headed directly to the studio to record this. It turned out to be this inspiring song.
Yep, and MJ skipped it all together to lay down the guide track for the chorus so they could get through that part quicker. And the awards show was the 1985 American Music Awards, (where Prince cleaned house from the Purple Rain album, man I miss the 80's)
After the Grammy awards
And when they entered the room, the first thing they were all told was to check your egos at the door!
@@cynthialocsin9875 nope
You did a reaction to James Ingram’s song two months ago titled “One hundred ways”. You said he was too smooth and he definitely was that. Under appreciated given his talent. He had great hits with Patti Austin (another vocal legend) “Baby Come to Me” and “How Do You Keep the Music Playing?”. One comment below said that you also reacted to his duet with a Linda Rondtad “Somewhere Out There”. He had that old school R&B (can really sang for real) soulful voice that I grew up on and loved.
Netflix has a documentary on this The Greatest Night in Pop. It's awesome!
Just a reminder to give your artists their flowers while they’re still with us to share their God-given gifts. Because one day, you might not be able to.
Some of the ones you missed were Huey Lewis, John Oates, Darryl Hall, Kenny Loggins. And I think Kim Carnes and Al Jarreau.
Hey amigo
@@itsmedino Hey Dino.
Makes me cry, their was Kenny Logins and Hall and Oats in the group, sooo emotional right now!! Almost recognized everyone, A blast to the past WOW!! Thank you guys!! 😊💓🤘✌️
bruce, lauper and perry stole the show and they only had small parts
@@defyzs7657 exactly!! 😊💓🤘✌️
I loved growing up in this era...this was such a beautiful song for such a great cause! 💙💜💖
I've got a lot of respect for you both for learning and going back and applying your knowledge to videos. Smart. You may want to begin exploring Kenny Loggins. Tall, bearded gentleman. "Danger Zone", "Footloose", "I'm Alright", "Meet Me Halfway".
And House at Pooh Corner/Return to Pooh Corner. (The kids would like it too! )
His song Whenever I Call You Friend with Stevie Nicks is so good. 😇
I'm Free (Heaven Helps The Man)
Also known as the king of soundtracks, and co-wrote 'what a fool believes' (the Doobie Brothers' greatest hit) with Michael McDonald.
And the song: Forever !!!!
The one Amber asked about was James Ingram, "Just Once" is my favorite of his songs.
When Ray sings I alway gets emotional that man was all soul.
I was just a kid when this came out. I recall holding hands across our school for Africa. We raised money and were proud to help.
Quincy Jones is the producer and he's the one that got everybody together and he's doing the conducting
This song Always chokes me up. It's just so moving, and they all sang beautifully.
In my humble opinion, this is the best and the greatest song of all time
The one iconic voice I wish could have been in this production way back then, Aretha. The queen makes everything better.
His name is JAMES INGRAM and you NEED NEED NEED to hear more of his vocals. You can start with "Ya Mo Be There" a duet with Michael McDonald 🤟🏼
It truly upsetting more people in these comments didn't lead with this. At least "Baby Come to Me" or Secret Garden.
There will never be another moment like this in music. The talent that came together on one song. It still wows me -- and makes me emotional. And hearing it, I'm 25 again.
For real. I'm a blubbering mess all over again
I have my original 45 single from when it came out! Still have the cover with all their signatures. This was on primetime TV! The whole family watched together as a fan. Some of the biggest 80s Icons ever!
The guy name at 10:00..is James imgram. One of the greatest voice ever.👍👍👍👍👍👍
I must reiterate - as much as I love watching you re-visit this song, there were OTHER tribut songs for Ethioopia done at that time - you have reacted to the British one ("Do They Know It's Christmas?") but it is HIGH TIME you reacted to CANADA'S song Tears Are Not Enough! It is great! It includes many of the artists you have already reacted to: Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Corey Hart, Bryan Adams, Mike Reno (lead singer of Loverboy), Burton Cummings (lead singer of The Guess Who) and others. THe good part is you will hear other voices that you have YET to react to that I think you would enjoy. Really - it is time to do it. You will not be sorry.
Yes!!!
As well as Stars by Hear n aid, a all heavy metal relief song
I’ve never seen it. I’d enjoy that one!
There's also the newer- Young Artists For Haiti - Wavin' Flag - ua-cam.com/video/nB7L1BIDELc/v-deo.html
Yes yes YES!!! TEARS ARE NOT ENOUGH is a good as all the tributes sung by artistes of different countries.
There are several videos on UA-cam that show "the making of ‘We Are The World’" & what’s interesting is the amount of time it took to record this. It had to be done in one night, after the Grammy Awards so they could grab so many artist’s that they wanted to participate. It’s been told that every person was told to leave their egos at the door ✌️☮️
Happy Anniversary! You two are my favorite’s, so hopeful there are many more years of your channel ❤️
There is also a clip from after, the singers sang a Harry Belafonte song to honour him. Some of the artists came back the next day, to do parts to fill out the spaces, they wore different clothes, so you can get a good idea of whom they were. The conductor was Quincey Jones, and Bob Geldorf from Boomtown Rats, "I don't Like Mondays," who set up "aid for africa," was in the room.
Prince couldn't leave his ego, so he declined.
@@jp3813 and Saturday Night Live did a tremendous send up of it.
Not the Grammys but The American Music Awards. Had it been the Grammys there probably would have been more foreign singers.
@@donnagutierrez5740 You’re right, it was the AMA’s, not Grammy’s. Thanks for the correction, I should’ve caught that lol, it makes so much more sense ✌️☮️
I remember watching this on MTV …. I feel privileged for that……..❤
You HAVE to watch and react The Greatest Night in POP. It’s a documentary of how they recorded this ❤
For those who were to witness those momentous events of the 1985 recordings of both the USA version and the UK version of the charity relief response to the Ethiopia famine to then culminate in the Live Aid mega concerts that year for the above cause, it will forever remain 1 of the most powerful chapters in human history and to retell to future generations. So much was achieved to help those people in that great famine, even now I can still recall the power of those news reports of the day. Despite the major barriers in technology that was available at the time, the simultaneous broadcast that was the Live Aid concerts in Wembley London and JFK Philadelphia happened and for that period of time through the charity recordings through to Live Aid in 85 a huge chunk of this planets population was indeed united for that cause. It was a time that people power and the great of music really did merge like never before, and never will be again, and for those who were alive to see it - we are the lucky ones.
Harry Chapin died a few years before this recording, but they had a tribute concert to him held at Carnegie Hall. He had a wonderful song that spoke to what he power of music could be and Bruce Springsteen performed the cover of it.

or if you choose to just read:
"Remember when the music
Came from wooden boxes strung with silver wire
And as we sang the words, it would set our hearts on fire,
To believe in things, and so we'd sing.
Remember when the music
Brought us all together to stand inside the rain
And as we joined hands, we'd meet in the refrain,
For we had dreams to live, we had hopes to give.
Remember when the music
Was the best of what we dreamed of for our children's time
And as we worked we sang, 'cause we knew time was just a line,
A gift to save, a gift the future gave.
Remember when the music
Was a rock that we could cling to so we'd not despair,
And as we sang we knew we'd hear an echo in the air
And if we weren't smiling then, we'd smile again.
Yeah and all the times I've listened, and all the times I've heard
All the melodies I'm missing, and all the magic words,
And all the beautiful voices, and the choices we had then,
I hope to find we got those kinds of choices once again.
Remember when the music
Was a glow on the horizon of the newborn day
And as we sang, the sun come and chase the dark away,
And life was good, for we knew we could.
Remember when the music
Brought the night across the valley as the day went down
And as we'd hum the melody, we'd be safe inside the sound,
And so we'd sleep, to awake with dreams and promises to keep. "
I wonder if it will ever be that for us again, but "We are the World" was a pure embodiment of that sentiment for a brief moment, and you are absolutely right, those of us who were alive and remember that period were the ones lucky enough to bear witness to an absolutely magical moment in time.
I think the UK one was late 1984 and hit the top spot for Christmas that year
it was all the brainchild of sir bob geldof of the boomtown rats. a great humanitarian, who also played the role of "pink" in the movie version of "pink floyd the wall".
I was a young teenager when this was created.....and it STILL makes tears roll and my heart sing with love for mankind. This one song proves that when we come together with love, we can create magic.
Funny story about Cyndi Lauper in rehearsals they kept hearing noise when she sang. Turned out it was all her necklaces clinking together. If u notice in the video she took them off. 😆 I saw her in concert when she first came out in the 80's.
I had to go back and watch the first one... and then watch this one. Goosebumps every time!
The first one you missed was James Ingram!!! I have to suggest some of his songs. "I Don't Have The Heart" and "Just Once." He's no longer with us on Earth, but his amazing voice still resonates!!!
Wow, neither one of you recognized Huey Lewis!!! Before that, you missed Kenny Loggins. Jay almost got Kim Carnes. You both missed Darryl Hall at 5:14.
I agree...Just Once was my favorite by him.
They missed John Oates too
Have they reacted to Huey Lewis & The News?
@@chrismcelligott5462 Yep, he came in later. :)
Agreed. YOu also should do James' duet with Patti LaBelle, "Baby Come to Me" as well as his duet with Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers, "Yah Mo B There".
I was just a 10 year old kid back then, and knew mj was helping people in Africa, but still too young to really appreciate the lyrics. But today almost 40 years later, I am blown away. ❤❤ that feels like it was just yesterday, and to see, especially the artist there that have passed away is very humbling. 😢😢
I was 12 when this song was released.
Whatta an era to be a teenager.
We were so fucking happy and we know it.
James Ingram, the second African American was Al Jareau, and the gentleman Jordan call Billy Ocean is Jeffrey Osborne. 🥰🥰
I never get tired of watching this. I was 10 when it first aired on MTV. I remember my school collecting money for Africa. It was a huge deal at the time. Thank you for re watching this masterpiece. Also, there is a newer version but it was for Haiti after that massive earthquake. Its pretty good too
our canadian school also collected money specifically for the starving children in Africa. They disappeared but this amazing infrastructure somehow got implemented lol XD
All the comments are right. Also, MRS siblings are there, Jeffrey Osborne who started with LTD, (check out Love Ballard). MOSTLY though, James Ingram is who you stopped the video for, (One Hundred Ways), and AL Jarreau. (Any song previously mentioned, lol). Last but not least, the composer of this song was the producer of 1000s of acts, Quincy Jones. CONGRATULATIONS on your one year anniversary! ❤
Talk about high priced entertainment!!!! This is beyond a super-group and priceless! There'll likely never again be such a talented gathering.
There's a ton of great artists in the chorus - I'm sure some folks wanted bigger parts but it's like "you think we should take bars from Ray Charles? Or Bob Dylan?" There are SO MANY MILLIONS of records represented in that studio. And for a good cause. It takes humility to come together and do this.
I think you are now, not only the best music reaction team, but have now become peace and kindness influencers. MAKE SOMEBODY SMILE!
"Hear 'n Aid" is the 80's heavy metal supergroup that also put out a song for famine relief in Africa. The song and video are fire. It's called, "Stars." It has everybody you've been learning about in the video
I was just about to recommend that myself. The way their different parts of that long guitar solo will definitley give them a smile on their faces. Jay and Amber wants to give the people what we want. And we want to make them smile by recommend "Hear 'n Aid". 😊
I checked it out on your recommendation and OMG!!!! Thank you!
Yep, Loved "Hear 'N Aid."
Makes my heart happy to see Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richey…side by side…39+ years of friendship…working together towards help for Africa!
I watched this video the day it dropped on MTV 😂😂 my age us showing 😂 great song ❤
This song has a big impact on me as a child. My love of charity and giving to others was cemented by this.
