Finding the bamboo coffee table is definitely helping this room move right along! I don't know if I will ever stop thrifting my furniture. People ask me where the best place to buy furniture is and honestly, nothing beats a good quality second hand score in my mind. For accent furniture I will try World Market, Target, Wayfair, IKEA, etc. Where do you like to purchase furniture from?

Hey there. Have you tried to put your couch on the otherside of the "facing" the window?
I've been decorating for over 30 years and I try to never put a sofa against a window or wall.
I encourage you to reverse what you have and allow the sofa to face the window with your chairs near the window.
It's very inviting and allows for a cozy nook.😊

I love second hand furniture too. I like going to estate sales and believe it or not some,of my coolest best finds were found on the side of the road for FREE!I can't get over the nice antiques people give away.

I like a table by the piano. So interesting to seeeverything come together. I think the more plain curtains will be better.

I love the patterned curtains. If you think it’s too busy you could swap either the picture or frame for another with a simpler frame. I think the round table looks a bit small for the end of the sofa. It might go well between two chairs and something a bit larger with some storage at the end of the sofa.

I think white/cream linen curtains would look fabulous instead of the patterned ones, though they're gorgeous, too. Use them in your kitchen! Also, I vote for keeping the color of the small round end table rather than painting it gold.

    Ideas:
💡 Put a potted tree in the spot by the piano.
💡 Don't paint the small table, but do paint the corner unit to match the small table.
💡 Put the couch back against the wall and scootch the rugs farther underneath the couch until the center medallion is where the coffee table will go (basically center the rug on the seating area instead of the other way around). The rug will make it feel like it's own little "room within a room" (with a walkway between it and the TV wall).
💡 Place a pair of chairs on either end of the rug. So two pairs of side by side chairs across the rug from each other (coffee table between & couch on the long side).
If all this works, it should give you back the hiding place for your dining table, seating for six or seven, not visually block off the view from the entry, and a path for traffic. Oh and it will take care of the "boring" corner by the piano with something that would be hard for the dog to knock over when getting in or out of the window seat.

I love the patterned drapes. The sheen is luxurious with the velvet. The gold guided frame gives the same feel. Congratulations on your coffee table find. Home needs to be usable, inviting, and user friendly. The raw wood side table, chipped stool and other well used pieces make the room feel approachable and welcoming.

I love in the end when you put the dog painting above the sofa and you move the end table near the piano. That way it no longer needs to be painted and the wood end table works next to the sofa. I also love the coffee table as is. It's beautifully.

I absolutely love to watch your videos. Nothing cookie-cutter about your home at all! When I was younger I followed all the latest trends then quickly grew tired of it or thought how much I didn't love it after living with it. Eventually I just bought what I loved and began to "piece" together my home. And almost all of those things were second hand and thrifted. My home burned to the ground 2 years ago and all those unique finds are now gone. But I've started again with thrifted pieces and am slowly furnishing my new(old) home. Will it ever be finished? No and that's okay. I'm loving the process. And I LOVE that green velvet sofa. What a beautiful piece!

I have always preferred light colored, solid curtains. However, in this case, I LOVE what the subtle pattern on your current curtains does for your room! I think linen would look fine, but a little boring and predictable. The pattern however adds subtle, unique character.

I think you need the patterned curtain because everything in the room is a solid color. You need the diversity, don’t know what fabric you’re going to do on pillows, which could make a difference. The blue walls are beautiful.

I totally agree with you. The curtains and the wall color! I suggest the chairs be reupholstered in a floral or plaid, something needs to pop besides just adding pattern pillows. I am no designer, but I do watch a lot of decorating shows and my fav designer has always been Sarah Richardson. She does great things with fabric.

I love the colors you have chosen for the room. If I would rearrange the furniture, I would move the piano to across from the couch, move the dresser to where the trunk is now and move trunk to the other side under the window. Get a round dinning table and use those gorgeous chairs around. I would create a dinning space next to that window where dog lays/ chandelier area. And have a coffee table in the middle of room. I feel like that will give you multiple functions without having to constantly remove and add table. But I am not a pro, I just love to constantly move furniture around in my house for fun lol

I like that you pulled the couch out. Perhaps a low profile console behind, simple, not heavy, maybe glass topped? Keep your drapes & tie the throw pillows in with alittle of that fabric also. Would the dining table tuck behind the piano perhaps? And I like the larger table at the end of the couch, the small round one seemed lost & too small. Love the color pallet and layers of pattern, very European! Bravo😊

Beautiful home❤️ Have you tried swapping the piano and the beautiful dresser. The dresser could maybe go on the other side to allow for a dining table to be placed around the window seat. Or maybe on an angle to mimic the other cabinet/ book shelf from the other corner of the room.I really like the couch brought forward on the carpet and maybe those wonderful chairs on an angle set back ,to allow walking room. But still allow conversation . How wonderful to be able to play around with your space. Beautiful ❤️

Sarah, I am so happy you adding color. I did notice in your intro in the bedroom, it looks like your pot lights are coming away from the ceiling a bit. It could have been the lighting or camera angle, too, I guess. I think you were always meant to have French Country decor in your house. Your kitchen always looked more that style.
As a child of the 70's, I have loved that MCM, clean lines, mod style. In the late 80s when I was married and we bought our house, country was the "style" of the day. Geese, hearts in everything, lace curtains.......I tried it, but have gone back to my original love. However, if I live long enough, my dream is to have a little she shed in the yard that I can decorate in comfy, florally, stuffed and cushioned English cottage style, 🤭.

I like the curtains with the painting - I think the curtains are a nice contrast to the wall color. A tall plant would be really nice next to the piano vs. more woodwork. Skinnier too and would give texture ... I like the end table in the color it is. I think it's a nice light touch against the walls. I love hearing your tips. I never knew that about chair heights. You are a wealth of knowledge!

I love the curtains, however I think they may be too much once you get the pillows on the sofa. We have a similar living room, and you have great windows have you thought about not doing any curtains. Just allow the Great Wall color and molding to come through. You then could hang some amazing art work throughout the room. Just a thought… I appreciate your channel very much, and you have taught me so much. Thank you!!

I didn’t have a dedicated place to homeschool, so I was always trying to hide or morph or conceal the space we used in the dining room. Eventually I’ve embraced that it’s our lifestyle. It has earned a permanent place in our living room. Therefore, it took some time to purge the primary colors of “learning”. I now love the space and am happy it’s not hiding from company.
I wonder if the same could be true of your dining space.? You have a great eye for pulling things together. I would be all the more interested in seeing how you could mesh your dining and living room together - perhaps you could use a tufted corner bench that doubles as entertainment seating? Just a thought. Obviously what you’re doing meets a need. Just wanted to share the blessing we’ve experienced once we surrendered to the space we’ve been given. God gave me the grace to adapt it in a way I now love all the more.

I love the new coffee table. I am not a fan of the trend of painting the walls, window trim, molding, etc. all the same color [everyone is entitled to their opinion]. I feel that the pattern of the drapes adds some dimension to the room with it being painted all one color. If you want to paint that corner bookshelf, how about a green to play off of the sofa rather than blue? You have a great design eye and talent and know that you will make it your own. Consider building an outdoor dining room for spring, summer, and fall? My front porch is just big enough to hold a dining table and chairs, and because I was able to find a durable used table for little cost, it works perfectly for my tiny floodplain. I think the curtains are beautiful either way, but the linen definitely makes the painting stand out more while still adding texture. I don’t think you should paint the side table gold since that would probably detract from the painting as a focal point. It also seems to match the corner bookcase (not sure if they’re the same color) which balances the room nicely.

Did you learn how to float your furniture when you took the online Rhodec course from Guildhall university in London? Move the sofa out from the wall. Do the linen curtains and loose the trunk. Put the French style table where the white country table is at the end of the sofa, the one you want to guild. It's too country looking to guild. The French table that you have in front of the sofa as a filler for now would look much nicer there with a different lamp. I really like the thrifted bamboo coffee table. That would look nice guided. Please move the truck to another room, and move the sofa away from the wall, and do the linen curtains.

Projects like this are so exhausting but so worth it. Love your direction and colors. The room to me feels very heavy on the right side of room(back to entry door). The couch has visual weight. The piano has visual weight. Anyway to balance that? I'd love to know if the piano would fit where the chest is? Would couch fit in front of window seat (pulled away from)? Would couch work on opposite wall? So hard to tell in video. It's gonna be wonderful!

While I ADORE the beautiful frame of the picture you originally had between the windows, I really really LOVE the picture of the woman you hung up in the end. It just seems to belong there to my eyes.
Either of the curtains look beautiful in this space. But for some reason, I like the linen curtains with that picture of the woman and the block print curtains with the fancy framed picture. But no matter which way you roll in this, it's going to be lovely.
I LOVE the new coffee table and I love the idea of gilding it. I think it will be perfect for that room. I even like the height of it next to the sofa and chairs.
I like the table you originally had between the chairs and in front of the sofa, moved to the side of the sofa. It has a bit more weight and presence than the other one and it suits that space better to my eye. As far as painting it gold. What about gilding the top and leaving the legs in the color they are now.
The sofa being pulled away from the wall looks a lot better but I agree, you'll probably want a sofa table back there. Did you ever try putting your dining table in the fireside room? If not will it fit somewhere in your pantry or you little supply closet?
While I loved how you had your house decorated before, I'm loving seeing the changes you are making too. They all suit your home, but are just different styles to meet the changes and chapters in your life.

I like the white linen curtains. Have you thought about sanding the table to its natural wood? I'm loving all the natural wood tones lately! Your room will be beautiful whatever you decide.

I'm enjoying your channel thoroughly. Your space is stunning. You had my attention when you said that you transform this room into different "rooms" based on need. I can't wait to learn more about that. I have a small cottage with only one main living space that is where everything needs to happen, so I can't wait to see how you go about repurposing your space. Oh, and those club accent chairs are gorgeous. Could you share the source if there is one? Many thanks!

Love your suggestion to consider the view from the adjacent room! Your trunk is perfect under that window with the casters giving it that height. I vote YES to painting the table. And YES to the linen drapes!

The curtains were good. I wouldn’t change them. You said you were going for dark academia, which is English, and the English love multiple patterns. I would add even more patterns. 😂 Coffee table is perfect. I would add clear glass. No gilding for me in that room. Just my unprofessional opinion.

Look at how Madeline Olivia styles her Cornish cottage, with multiple patterns, very English country, not my style but I love to look at it. If you took the piano out and put an extendable oval table at the back of the room, would that work? It could be styled with books and a vessel during the day and extend at night. A beautiful walnut pedestal table would look beautiful.
