As Most People Know this game is called Kung-Fu in Reagins outside of Japan I have This Game for my NES and yes it's indeed called Kung-Fu
Everyone says that Hot Blooded Fighter Kunio-Kun/Renegade was the beginning of the beat-em-up/side-scrolling brawler genre, but no, it was actually Spartan X/Kung Fu/Kung Fu Master/Senkei Achoo that began the genre.
That's because Kunio Kun was the beginning of modern beat-em-ups followed by Double Dragon. It introduced enemies that took more than one punch or kick to go down and bosses with more than one attack, which is why it's known as the start of the genre.
Also…..this game had stairs before Akumajou Dracula 🧛🏻♂️ ever came out! Though Aztec for Apple II had stairs before both!

The game should just end once you rescue Sylvia, what's point of her being kidnapped again and again. Teach her the fighting skills you've and that's all😂
You should watch the Newgrounds animation movie of the aftermath of Spartan X and what Thomas did after rescuing Sylvia. It was really funny
It was an arcade game originally, so the whole point was to get a high score. So the game loops, getting slightly harder each time. Just like Donkey Kong, and other old games.
This game is the reason why both Zelda II and (Mike Tyson's) Punch-Out!! got some of their sound effects. Thanks, Koji Kondo!

When I hear sound effects of kicking sometimes sounds funny when I hear it
Koji Kondo re-arranged the music and sounds for this port. This explains why...
* When Thomas is hit by a knife, the same sound is heard when Link is hit in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
* When a boss laughs at you when you lose a life, the same sound is heard in Zelda II when Ganon comes back to life, or when you meet Bald Bull or Soda Popinski in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!

The game developers didn't put much effort in level design lol😂 same level repeated 5 times.
I rented this as a kid. Years later I played the orignal irem arcade version. This version is better.
I liked this game Spartan X a lil bit when I was a child. This was one of the average games during the 80's.

Did anyone else have problems with fighting off little kids in some of the higher levels or was that just me? Like can understand fighting off the grownups but fighting little kids I’m not too sure about that
Even though I own this game but I never in how if there are 2 knife throwers and one throws a knife at the other nothing happens but if the knife is thrown at you, you take damage, I guess that’s just NES physics haha (and when I say I own this game I mean Kung-Fu not Spartan X which I know is basically the same game just with a different name)
