Hey Rick :-) How about "Days of the caveman"(Crash Test Dummies) or "Ghost story" (Sting) for your next "What makes this song great?" :D You´re a great guy. Greetings
Whenever I get bummed out about my limited guitar skills, I watch Phil. His talent, enthusiasm, and sense of humor inspire me to keep trucking. He's the coolest of the cool.
Rick, Phil’s a friend of mine-we came up on the same 80’s Canadian cover circuit, playing with many of the same musicians etc. He is living proof of the 10k hours theory put to the test. This guy put in the time and worked his ass off, touring from an early age, 6 nights a week. Plus he oozes positivity and talent. A great episode.
What is cool about Rick is he knows more than any musician who walks in his door and by his own right he is a fabulous musician, But he is still amazed at the talent level of others and still is able to pick up pointers from them. Music is pretty damn cool!
It's a great song too! That solo sounds amazing, it SOUNDS like a car speeding off a bridge or something and he mentions something like that in the lyrics of that song. The Drills are the real fkn deal actually lol
When the magic pours out of PhilX's fingers, the look on Rhett's face is priceless.. I'm on the other side of a screen on the other side of the world, and I'm wearing the same expression, amigos.. Primo!!! Thankyou..
Phil is one of the best guitarist I’ve ever heard when it comes to being only one guitar in a band and being able to play so full. It’s very difficult, and I know I’ve played 40 years to be the only guitarist in a rock band. All the covers I’ve seen him do, it’s just amazing how he can fill up all the space.. it’s almost like he plays lead and rhythm at the same time. He’s just a guitar genius. And I have a lot of guitar hero’s and I gotta say , Phil is up there with the top ones.
I remember this video! Good stuff! Phil’s a good friend. I’ve told him in the past that he’s my friend but when he plays I also become a fan! He’s the guy who got me into 90’s as well. I do miss the good old days of him & Dustin Jack rolling out the Fretted Americana videos.
when I hear Phil play I realize I am but scuttling claws on the ocean floor, yet I bet he would be kind enough to help me or show me some pointers. just love this guy.
that is a seriously unique lick - it is indeed reminiscent of a banjo. i wish there was a TAB of it so that i wouldn't have to watch it 100 times while i try to steal it
Lol! Phil has been watching Greg Koch video flicks. That “liquid linear” style is Mr. Koch’s bread and butter. Still… uncle Phil is still a monster. I recall that Phil was doing a session for Chris Cornell and Chris….”needs more gain I think”. Phil rocked it of course. A dude among dudes!
Those kinds of guitar lines are pretty common on a lot of "country guitar, pedal steel guitar and banjo". If you've ever listed to the old records of area code 615 you'll here it.
Dimebag talked about moving licks around and chromatically like this. Very cool way to get some extra miles out of your stock licks not saying Phil’s are stock but moving patterns around and swapping or adding a couple notes can take something plain to exotic with little work but I’m lazy so if I learn something new I want to cheat code it to death.
Phil is the Man! He should make a F*G3 (Fun) G3 with IA Eklund (?) and Ron Thal! That would be a blast! Always enjoyed how light hearthed Phil is. Ohh, and put also Max (Ostro), in that line up!
you wanna break out of boring pentatonics but still sound like a player that has a complete grasp of how to use them in practice and theory. Greg Koch.
Gotta get a few 6" dual end reverse thread wood decking screws, that will resolve the squeaky floor boards, just fyi. My brother had a similar issue in his living room and it pissed him off so we figured out how to fix it. There are regular wood screws, but these have an inch or so near the head of the screw that actually reverse threads so it pulls the screw into the floor, but the end in the floor board being reversed thread actually pushes the floor board down, as opposed to pulling it. My $0.02.
I love how you both turn into BOBBLE HEADS as soon as Mr X starts playing. You Defo need to talk to the good people at FUNKO to make the Official RICK BEATO WACKY WOBBLER Love, Peace & Volumer from MADRID
Rhettt was correct. They were not trying to make a more powerful pickup they were just trying to cancel the hum. That's why the PAFs had such low output. And kept that single coil character

I see Phil X, I click. Man I grew up with that guy testing all those guitars, what a player, what charisma!
I loved Fretted Americana w/Phil. Like the Drills, too.
i saw every video with Phil by Fretted Americana
Same..."PHIL X!"
Such a huge influence on little me, taught me how to have fun w the instrument and not take it so seriously

Rhett’s reaction is so wholesome. It’s all of us. And he’s a monster player. No matter how good you are, Phil can be humbling.
Phil X is why guitar is still the coolest thing you can play

A great episode.
Not 100% sure what I find more addictive, Phil's playing or his uber positive attitude.
Whoever is unhappy in life needs a major dose of Phil X. He’s an amazing dude. I hope to meet him sometime.
Phil X is an insanely amazing guitar player. His energy as well as his amp is at "11".
What is cool about Rick is he knows more than any musician who walks in his door and by his own right he is a fabulous musician, But he is still amazed at the talent level of others and still is able to pick up pointers from them. Music is pretty damn cool!
I wish my beer was as cold as your heart
What a great line 😂

Primo!!!
Thankyou..
I enjoyed the full video 2 years ago and then enjoyed this refresher. Thank you
Phil has his own energy and vibe. That is the best attribute of a guitar player, in my humble opinion
Man I absolutely love Phil. What a character, and fascinating guitarist. Hugely under-rated dude.
I would ..love.. to see Phil and Greg Koch together in the same room ..Listening to them chat a lot and playing too would be priceless 😊
Phil is awesome. So is Ian Thornley! Bring on Ian!!🎸
The first time I saw Phil X use the liquid lick was in Netflix' Hired Guns. I've been hoping for a breakdown since then. Good stuff!
I love Phil X! What a bundle of positive energy!
What a special breed that guy is - a wonderful human being
As a mostly acoustic player, this is the kind of lick I can get behind!
I don't play an instrument, but I love to watch musicians geek.

Phil's sound is so distinctive

In this world of copycat, anesthetized, safe as shit guitar playing, I sure love Phil. Danger mixed with EVH playfulness. So good!
The rhythmic timing of this lick is very EVH-like.
I must’ve seen every Fretted Americana video with Phil, but I didn’t realize how much he influences my playing until I saw this video! 😂
when I hear Phil play I realize I am but scuttling claws on the ocean floor, yet I bet he would be kind enough to help me or show me some pointers.
just love this guy.
I recently went back to that video just to listen to that lick!!!! WHAT IS HE PLAYING????? THE GUY ROCKS!
Love the two bubbleheads while he’s shredding 😂
that is a seriously unique lick - it is indeed reminiscent of a banjo.
i wish there was a TAB of it so that i wouldn't have to watch it 100 times while i try to steal it
It's worth turning up for just the expressions of you guys watching Phil play.
Rhett's face is priceless. Admittedly Phil's playing had me smiling ear to ear.
Because Phil will mop the floor with Rhett. But you get Michael Romeo in here, and Phil will be a deer in the headlights.
There are country licks very similar to this, usually done on a clean tele, and the dissonace almost becomes a chime like and is still liquid.
Tuning in to watch PhilX shred... AND watch Rick and Rhett do the "bobble head".
Phil X is so damn cool. What a great lick!!!
I like Phil's answer to "Show us that climbing lick you just did!" and Phil answers "I did a climbing lick???"
Those kinds of guitar lines are pretty common on a lot of "country guitar, pedal steel guitar and banjo". If you've ever listed to the old records of area code 615 you'll here it.
He’s so humble and cool
when Phil touched Ricks face that was so awkward i had to rewind like 3 times lmao
Same lol. Rick is torn between: he's my friend he can do this and: not the face bro, come on.
“Riiiiiiiicky....! You noticed!” 🤣
"Rockin Roll for me is on 10!!" P. X
Omg. Rick Beato TWO!? We can barely handle Rick Beato One.
Phil is like a flashy Zakk Wylde. Part Zakk. Part Eddie. And part Jeff Spicoli. 😆
"I wish my beer was as cold as your heart"
He was great in Triumph!
I'm not really sure him playing it slow helped me at all. haha That was awesome!!!
"Do that slow"
Phil *plays it slow*
Rick and Rhett: Collective, "Ooohhhhh" Lol that was good stuff
Phil is an absolute beast
Some of those odd note combos remind me of Brent Hinds of Mastodon. Very cool.
Man I have had this video on my watch later for ages to figure out this lick! Never got around to it yet
That was great, thank you Would have loved a close up on that lick, of course.
Phil is justthe coolest mother effer ever.
"I wish my beer was as cold as your heart" 😂

F'in Rhett! The look on his face is priceless...
I love that song. I wish my beer was as cold as your heart. The drills. Love me some phil x
Fretted Americana’s Hollywood Stunt Man.
PHIL X is the man
That's Rhett Struggling to light the cigarette like Clapton moment when he heard Hendrix like Rhett is feeling here listening to Phil.
I love Phil X so much 🔥🔥
Just amazing Phil X , your awesome love it 😍❤️
Phil X's bands cover of "Fairies Where Boots" is fricking awesome.
2:58 Phil X falling up the stairs lol
Phil is the Man! He should make a F*G3 (Fun) G3 with IA Eklund (?) and Ron Thal! That would be a blast! Always enjoyed how light hearthed Phil is. Ohh, and put also Max (Ostro), in that line up!
Country Lead licks mixed into Rock & Roll. :-)
you wanna break out of boring pentatonics but still sound like a player that has a complete grasp of how to use them in practice and theory. Greg Koch.
Oldie but Goldie!!!
Hey 2 years..... great news!
Did you hear about that Corona thing?
Has been 2 years as well!
Thank you for RECYCLING, RICK!
God I miss the fretted Americana videos with Phil x
Watching your heads moving while Phil played was too funny
Sort of like the open string climbing lick in the "Peg" solo.

Phil is a STUD
p-90s is there any specific type model ? are they just called p-90s !
5-Stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
LOL never saw anybody touch Rick's face like that. Also interesting to see the size difference between the two of them. Phil is oddly huge.
It's like me playing around with the pitch control haha
Rhett sitting there getting his hair blown back
He’s great!
PHIL X is just a cool dude...
I heard the Beato guitar is coming out in red and I want one. 😎🤓
Why is the studio floor so squeaky?
still have the other channel?
Eddie called it "falling down the stairs and landing on your feet". Phil's is "falling down the ELEVATOR SHAFT and landing on your feet!" lol
This is great. Nice one.
Lol @0:30 he had Rick and Rhett Glitching! (Watch their heads)
Rhett's face....same expression on mine LOL.
I’m going to try that out and master….
Gotta love Phil!
Hell yeah Phil X!
I love how you both turn into BOBBLE HEADS as soon as Mr X starts playing.
You Defo need to talk to the good people at FUNKO to make the Official RICK BEATO WACKY WOBBLER
Love, Peace & Volumer from MADRID
can anyone good with vid make a nice short one out of rick's face at @2:40? just says it all
Phil X is just AWESOME!!
Love Phil - he's everything I want a rockstar guitarist to be, but am I the only one here to think that most of that was a bit of a mess?
Sorry, Rick. I had trouble concentrating while staring at that Pelham Blue Special. 😍
I wish my beer was as cold as your heart 😂
3:27
Send me that blue Gibson ! You don't need it anymore !!!!!
Rhettt was correct. They were not trying to make a more powerful pickup they were just trying to cancel the hum. That's why the PAFs had such low output. And kept that single coil character
