I had a chance to meet Dweezil and several of his band members after a show. They hung out in the lobby for a long time just talking with fans. He is one of the most humble, kind, and patient people you'll ever meet.
@@candaceburlingame4060 Yes, I saw him and his band in Austin about 10 years ago and my knees were melting in musical bliss. Seriously. It was that good. His keyboard player was beyond out of this world. She was "just" a high school music teacher by day, but she was easily one of the best keys players I've ever heard in my life. Beyond amazing.
I had a banjo teacher tell me, "If it sounds good, then it IS right." Many people want to play banjo the correct "traditional" way. But there never really was one. Like a puppy in a field. Love that too.
It is so fucking clear that the apple does not fall from the tree.... Dweezil, your father was a big inspiration to me. It makes me feel so warm and fuzzy to see your intellect and talent applied. You are your own thing, but I can see your father's intelligence in you.
At the end, when Dweezil says "wuhhh well, that's not right... but it sounds great!!" Brings to mind Ed's quote: That's why they call it music THEORY, and not music fact. ;)
(Asked of Yogi Berra) - "Mr. Berra, what's the difference between theory and practice?" "Well, in theory there is no difference, but in practice there is."
"That's not right but it sounds great" ....totally correct. Victor Wooten says how there's no 'wrong ' notes, Eddie's playing is a perfect example of how he made everything sound right
Dweezil inherited his old man's love and talent for music. Though I really miss Frank's forthrightness when it comes to topics of freedom of expression, govt censorship, etc--no one said it as eloquently as him, while still maintaining the blunt force trauma of his logic.
Your vids are always good Rick. Thank you for them. Here's another suggestion for an interview: Todd Rundgren I have heard that he did guitar on Meat Loaf's Bat out of Hell album.
To me the best pick slide/scrape was RR. If you listen to the opening of Suicide Solution the song begins with an epic slide into the heaviest riff an Ozzy track ever produced. Randy had that same gift
I remember playing one of Ed's guitars, (numbered 1984 and it had a slight rout under the Floyd), the night before seeing a Monsters Of Rock show in 88 in Minneapolis. The pick was thinner than a finger nail. His tech, Zeke Clark, who's hotel room was on the floor above ours and where I first laid eyes on the guitar I played and the 5150 axe, said they were 36mm. Ed called a bit later while we were talking and sounded a bit pissed off and Zeke motioned I should bail. So before I left, despite a box FULL of EVH signature embossed picks, I _put the pick back on the guitar_ because I didn't want to steal from Ed or get Zeke in shite if he didn't notice 1 missing. Every time I think of that, I SO regret putting it back. I got back home and bought a dozen of those thin, 36mm gauge picks. Used them for years. I eventually moved up to 56mm. I believe Ed weren't heavier as well later. Like Ed, most likely because I watched him so closely, I also hold my pick between the thumb and middle finger. That makes a difference for tremolo picking for sure and doing pinch harmonics with my index finger while picking.
Okay, I’m not a good guitar player by any means, but it never occured to me that some players might hold their pick between the thumb and index finger. For 30 years it’s just been the middle finger for me, naturally
Awesome. Correct Dwezzel. My friend plays with the plastic bread ties. So thin they are the wrong shape and break in 30 seconds. So I give him thin guauge picks. ✌️🤘🏴🇦🇺
Dweezil, this is your chance, Eddie is gone, you’ve been waiting for this, your whole life you’ve wanted to be Eddie Van Halen your whole life. Now is your chance by a wig, hire his old band, become Eddie become your dream.
Funny enough I have rarely seen a course on pick slide’s. This is incredible!
I know it's so fucking dope
I’ll never get tired of listening to Dweezil talk about his bud Eddie Van Halen- and showing us how it’s done. Thank you Rick- thank you Dweezil
I like Rick's face reflections on Dweezil's guitar
💯
😂😂😂 just noticed when I read this looked up and seen Rick smiling back at me on the guitar lmao
Awesome technique. That SG is fabulous. It is a proper guitar.
I had a chance to meet Dweezil and several of his band members after a show. They hung out in the lobby for a long time just talking with fans. He is one of the most humble, kind, and patient people you'll ever meet.
Dweezil stays after each show and takes photos and sings autograph's. Such a killer band and humble dude.
I could listen to Dweezil all day long. Smart guy and quite a player to boot.
Dweezil is so BAD ASS, and he looks so very normal when he plays :)
Very cool reflection of Rick's face in Dweez' guitar throughout the vid. Cameraman in heaven.
That SG is gorgeous. Proof of concept, full pickguard on an SG is dope!
Not to mention Rick looks great reflecting off of it.
Zappa is a cool dude
Sounded really great!! Seems like a really nice guy!! 🎸 😊❤
If you ever get a chance to see him live, DO NOT pass it up! It will be one of the best shows of your life.
@Peter_S_ I take it you've Been to one of his concerts, Peter? I'd love to see him live. 😍

guitar motto for the ages!

I am subscribed to all channels and look forward to all topics.
Goddamn this is cool
I keep watching Rick's reflection in that SG!

“That’s not right… but it sounds great!”
Rock & Roll !! 🤘😎
Love the look of that guitar! 🎸
I like this guy.
Saw him on his Zappa Does Zappa tour…sublime. He’s a ridiculously good guitarist.

Tnx,,Mr jr.ZAPPA...,,,,,i saw your dad,1980..Denver,CO.shut up & play guitar. Concert😮,,,(steve vai),,,..epic nite of music.
Imagine having played guitar for less than a year getting personal lessons from Eddie van Halen. We are not born equal 🤣
"That's not right but it sounds great" ....totally correct. Victor Wooten says how there's no 'wrong ' notes, Eddie's playing is a perfect example of how he made everything sound right
DZ is a brilliant guitarist and teacher!
C Cs slide on talk dirty to me gets me every time
Love Dweezil.
Dweezil is cool and seems very happy in his skin. I admire his happiness.
EXCELLENT.
That tone is awesome!
Watching two passionate Italians talking about music jusdt made my day !
EVH handed me a pick in 1988 when I’d snuck up to the 1st row (I was 14 years old). I’ve since lost the pick but I DO remember it was super thin!
So thats that crispy high tone you hear you never can get with an heavy pick! Still learning from Eddie.....
Dweezil inherited his old man's love and talent for music. Though I really miss Frank's forthrightness when it comes to topics of freedom of expression, govt censorship, etc--no one said it as eloquently as him, while still maintaining the blunt force trauma of his logic.
This was fuc@ing great! I think the plexi melting on 10 should have been mentioned
I FREEKIN LOVE THIS GEEKY SHIT!!

Sure Jan….
I also love to see the SG.
5:50 perfectly explained
I got a studio tan just watching
Eddie certainly left his mark on the world
Damn, Dweezle can really communication how Eddie's geee'tar stuff works!
Rick. Will you have Roy Marchbank on your channel?
Now for your next trick.....John Mclaughlin! (while he is still alive to tell the tale) Love you Dweezil! cheers
That original Jubilee amp ✅

Not to mention,,= the hot rodded S.G.,,,,holy cats ,,KOOL😮
Kirk's Hammett pushes down when tapping as well
Long live the king, evh is like a classical composer people will refer to always but in the history of rock guitar (i hope)
Thinner picks have a better chance to get between the string windings. A thick pick will sit across more string windings and not make the same sound.
Rick, please interview Bob Mould and Krist Novoselic.
His pick slide said DUH-WEE-ZUL
Hell yeah
1:32 breaks into Roadrunner
imma subscribed.
LOVE THAT SG !!
yay!
What a great guitarist. Must be hard growing up in the shadow of his dad, but I think he's found his own voice.
Pick slides baby 😂
Great sound!
Where’s the David Gilmore interview Rick? 😊
I kinda refer the Schoz pick-slide.
What was he explaining with the way he was holding the pick? Was that with two fingers and thumb versus one finger and thumb?
Amazing technique
Loved this!!😊
Metal imo has the best pick slide. Eddie said his choice was metal pics.
Dweezil looks like a younger Rick lol
Hiya. Looking forward to Dweezil coming to San Antonio.
Perfection!
So awesome 😎🤘🎸
I have band mate who adds a pick slide to a chill version of come together. I hate it.
😄
That's why Eddie was ripped, and impossible to copy
Ahhh. so THAT'S why my pick slides have always sucked!!!
We, his disciples of lowest rank to highest, speak well as always, of The Master....
Tom Scholz did that on More Than a Feeling in 1979.
