I bought one of these in February 2023 and am very happy with it. It was the only 9 volt powerbank that I had managed to find on the market after hours of searching over a couple of years. I was using USB powerbanks with small 5 V to 9 V step-up transformers and DC power leads that I soldered myself because I couldn't find a 9 V powerbank. The Harley Benton unit was simpler and much more robust than that setup. The additional 9/12/15/18 V selectable voltage available at output 9 is also very useful for other gear besides effect pedals. My unit works great, but there is one thing to watch out for: I just tried to use mine after putting it away nearly fully charged 3-4 months ago and it was completely flat, so I suspect that it may have quite a fast self-discharge. In future I am going to charge mine once a month or so whether I use it or not, just to make sure that it does not self-discharge to too low a level. Running a battery or a powerbank (which is just a box of batteries) down to totally flat is generally not good for the life expectancy of any type of battery.

I need help on this please... I was trying to go outdoor and play a little on my own for fun and sun. But I barely know anything on electronic. I just talk with a guy in a music store section and he said that I shouldn't be using a powerbank for the pedals as there is degradation and the pedals need a constant flow that is not regular on powerbanks. If you play plug into an outlet it comparing... it would have much better quality... I've seen some comparation videos between 9v and outlets here on youtube and you can actually notice I guess. But anyway... he then refer to accumulators that help to ensure the distribution of power i guess? He also said using powerbanks could cause static noise specially in certain pedals like distortion or compressors since they use more something... So my question is... This Harley Benton has these problems? Have you tried to supply power through a power bank to compare with this Benton powersupply/powerbank?
Місяць тому
So i bought this. I think its awesome although from time to time i notice some issues with the usb to charge the phone, either the cable is not fitting properly or it makes some static for some random reason, maybe my cables were touching each other(?) and i ended up disconnecting the phone charger. Also it wont fit in the spaceship pedalboard underneat slots cause its too bulky which is disappointment specially both being Harley benton. And finally I have a multi effect pedal that requires 1.2A and for what I've seen this only supports 500 mA output ?
Looks awesome. Donyou think it could power a Hotone Ampero One, Joyo Compressor, Full Tone drive, and Joyo AC Tone without any hum from the pedals? Im also not 100% knowledgeable on power and outputs and what not, so my other question is, can i use ports that arent 500mah to power 500mah pedals? Does it send required ampage to power those pedals?
You need to check the mAh for each pedal. If it’s under 9v 500mA then you are fine. If it’s over 500mA then you can get splitters to plug into two of the outlets of the power supply to combine the power to produce 1000mA.
So..,I've got a big pedal board....and many different power supplies. The infinity pigtronics looper, the digite voice live 3, the MI 5 effects pedal..... All use different power, the other three or four pedals on my board use 9 volt. Can I use this power brick?
You’ll be able to use it for the three or four that’s 9v and one that’s different but you would possibilities need something that has more power for the ones that all need different power.
Nice setup. How are you running the tc helicon on your board? Are you feeding all other pedals into it then from tc to sound? (If so, is the guitar input where the other pedals are feeding into?) Or is it the opposite? Thank you
That depends, and you need to be really careful with the voltage. You need to check whether the amp has the right connection, or you might need to buy a separate specialised cable. But unless the amp is 500 mA or less than I don’t think he will be able to .
I am debating to get this power supply because I am not sure if the different signals are isolated. I can not find it anywhere and hear different people saying different things…. So are they isolated?
It says on the back of the unit. The MX5 is 12v but needs 3.0A - that’s 3000mA.. so that’s a lot more power than the power plant can generate.. so unfortunately no.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Any reccomendations for higher output for the likes of the MX5 or the Looperboard? (Without resorting to car batteries and inverters 🫣)
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Yeah, that‘s kinda what I was also thinking. For a gigging musician, having a charged backup could be a make-or-break thing, since nobody wants to start scrambling for wall warts and extension cords just before or during a gig, just in case disaster strikes. That said, I just checked the weight, which is just over 700g, so a spare would definitely be an item to preferably be left in the van until needed. In closing, THANK YOU very much for presenting this battery pack, of which I was not aware. This has me scheming and dreaming in new directions, including the creation of a small and compact pedalboard like yours that can run this way. Do you also have vocal harmonies covered by one of your pedals?
Hey 👋 So here’s the thing. What it needs is based on what you are doing with it. The draw is based on the maximum possible output, and I’m sure they say it needs more just in case. So imagine using the RC-600 with 2 mics on phantom power at full volume. Yeah it’s gonna need a lot more power. I’m using 1x 500ma and it’s fine but that’s because I’m not using phantom and I’m not driving past 50% of the volume at gigs. I’m surprised as well. If I ever get that issue then yes I could use a doubler cable and get 2x 500 for it but it’s chugging along nicely. Maybe I should stress test this out.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Defo! not a lot of videos telling people what current it needs. I know using phantom power it may need 1.2A and not using it much less but nothing in the internet that I can confirm this. That's awesome I might just use a current doubler, there's lots of power ports anyway on that Mk2! :))
Curiosity got the best of me so I connected a lab power supply at a constant 9V and the RC-600 pulled a max current of about 630mA while I was pushing through it’s paces, trying to max the processor out. Probably some leeway on the Harley Benton specs making it most likely not an issue.
@@philmartin9486 Upon second think, maybe he using a doubling cable of some kind to get more power draw? I believe such a cable exists, and the only drawback is blocking two ports.
No. No issues. I’m not running phantom power at all so maybe that’s where the reserve is for the 2 XLR inputs. But it’s been fine and I’m so impressed with it.
Hey Scott. Nope, not using a doubling cable. Just using one and works great. Again, I’m probably drawing not a lot of power cause I’m not using phantom on the system at all.
@JohnPaulMusicUK also I'm using the old rc 300 my singal set up is boss oc 5 - fender smolder OD- tc play acoustic - rc300 to pa. should I run my other pedals through my play acoustic into my rc 300 or will it cause latency due to the Di output for guitar on play acoustic. Thanks always great content you taught me so much
Really cool powerbank and a decent price 👍. I’m been looking for some like this but with a powered usb hub and isolated ports. Wish synth manufacturers would just fit separate power inputs to data. Gotta love usb audio interference 😵💫.
Has anyone in the US found this available? I emailed HB and they said there are shipping restrictions over seas. They hope to be able to ship but nothing on the horizon yet.
I see that there’s very little clearance on top of the power supply on your board. The power button of the supply seems to be on top. How do you turn it on with so little clearance?
You are right. I originally used 3M (hard Velcro) to tape it to the board but then there was zero clearance. There is JUST enough room for me to push the button. The alternative I have been considering is to zip tie it upside down and press the button from underneath the pedalboard as I get it out of the bag. If the switch was on the side it would be perfect. 👌
It’s the Large. With rubber spacers, you can make it a bit wider and put the RC-600 on the bottom if you prefer. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/Zc4bcpQJ7cM/v-deo.html
@@JohnPaulMusicUK I've done exactly this (i.e. zip tieing upside down) and there is just enough space to see and press the power button + also see the charge indicators so all good (would post a photo if you could in YT comments!) - glad I didn't add the 3M stuff first! BTW thanks for all the great videos (in particular related to the RC-600) they've really helped me get up-to-speed as quickly as possible moving away from my RC-30 setup!
According to the power of the internet.. it needs 9v DC 670mA.. so you would probably need a dual split ABY cable to plug in 2x500 mA to give it enough power.
Be wary tho. This seemed like a good product BUT - we performed a day of playing in four outside venues for a town thinking this was the perfect power solution. It failed on us three times! We're powering: Boss RC-600, thx Bass 9, Boss SY-300 and an AKG perception microphone receiver (12v). So only 4 of the 10 outputs available. We use quite complex assigns on the looper and my theory is, it pulled sudden requests for energy when kicking in certain routines. The Power Pack shut down and restarted, killing our music stone dead, mid song multiple times. Very embarrasing and apologising while the systems rebooted, left looking very unprofessional. I will probably keep it to power the 12v item by itself but other than that - I don't trust it.
That’s very interesting. Have you ever tried using a double cable to put 2x 500mA to get 1A out of it? Just curious. My assigns are pretty basic and it hasn’t failed on me yet including 2hr live stream, 2hr set in a field and 40mins on a stage.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK I haven't tried that, no. Not being very clever I didn't realise having two of the outputs into one would increase the ampage. I'll give it a try, thanks.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Good news and thanks for the suggestion - doubling up the outputs seems to work better. I did try a test with powering a handsonic drum as well but this went too far and failed. So the moral is try it out first to make sure it can power everything you need.

Love your video man. Now i can sleep well to powering my digital multi fx, knowing that few stage in my region aren't that good electricity. Nice
Glad I could help!
That's INSANE!!!
I know, right! Been brilliant 🤩
How do you know which cable is center negative to power the rc 600 and would you need to us a doubler cable to increase ma ? kind regards
Does the adjustable one jive with an HX Stomp XL?
That might be a bit too powerful. It takes 9VDC which is no problem… but at 3Amps it’s a hungry beast.
Can you use the cable that comes with it to power the RC600?
Yes. I use the cables that are with it to power my RC-600 but without phantom power on as that would be too much for this powerbank
I would like to know if this powerplant may work to make a Positive Grid Spark 40 into a full portable amp (it works with 19V).
in Amazon theres a battery pack that fits with the Spark, but sadly I they don't send it to Finland where I live.
I can order this from Thomann, that's why I'm asking.
Thanks for the comments :D
Cheers
I’m afraid that’s the switchable connection only goes up to 18v
1 DC Output: 9 / 12 / 15 / 18 V selectable (max. 500 mA)
@@JohnPaulMusicUK amazing! Thank you
How long will a charge last for a 9v digital multi modeller?
How many miliAmps is it pulling?
This looks awesome, quick question what camera do you use to record video, mines just bust
Sony ZV-e10 with the kit lens. But I think there’s an up to date version now.
Thanks man ✌🏻
Nice setup. How are you running the tc helicon on your board? Are you feeding all other pedals into it then from tc to sound? (If so, is the guitar input where the other pedals are feeding into?) Or is it the opposite? Thank you
Have a look at this: ua-cam.com/video/-LXRkj6rDsc/v-deo.htmlsi=ObT2KZhnOxuva0b1
Can it power the amp too? What cable for that?
That depends, and you need to be really careful with the voltage.
You need to check whether the amp has the right connection, or you might need to buy a separate specialised cable.
But unless the amp is 500 mA or less than I don’t think he will be able to .
How do you charge the power supply itself?
USB - C in - I use an 18w plug I have for my iPad.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK thank you 👍🏻
I am debating to get this power supply because I am not sure if the different signals are isolated. I can not find it anywhere and hear different people saying different things…. So are they isolated?
can you power up the headrush mx5? i ask cause it says that the 500ma is the max and i dont know how much ma this unit is :(
It says on the back of the unit.
Do you uee a hard case for your pedal board?
No. It comes with a robust soft case that the NUX Pedalboard fits into perfectly.
@JohnPaulMusicUK what size is yours. It comes with three sizes apparently
Do you have a second one as a backup?
No. Only just the one but could do for the future. I mean, for the price at £77, it’s worth doing!
Do you also have vocal harmonies covered by one of your pedals?
yes. the tchelcion voicelive play acoustic.
Question: BOSS RC600 needs 1.2A current draw, do you just have a current doubler cable plugged into 2 500mA port? Does it suffice?
Hey 👋
So here’s the thing.
I would be wary. We tried this unit with an RC-600, Sy-300, ehx Bass 9 plus an AKG receiver @12v. It failed three times.
The RC-600 has a 1.2A power supply. No issues running off 1 - 500 mA port?
Curiosity got the best of me so I connected a lab power supply at a constant 9V and the RC-600 pulled a max current of about 630mA while I was pushing through it’s paces, trying to max the processor out. Probably some leeway on the Harley Benton specs making it most likely not an issue.
Good question.
Am i ok to use 500ma for my 100ma 9v pedals and what is the 12v ma for on the battery i know its 400ma for the tc play acoustic
1 DC output: 9 / 12 / 15 / 18 V selectable (max. 500 mA)
Ha. Imagine that. A sensible solution! 🤣 yeah this power plant is awesome. Mad name.. but it’s so good!!
When it comes to mad names no comment.
Has anyone in the US found this available? I emailed HB and they said there are shipping restrictions over seas. They hope to be able to ship but nothing on the horizon yet.
If you find one, let me know and I’ll update the links on the video for people to buy it.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK will do!
I am working hard on this! 😁
@@JohnPaulMusicUK really makes me want to consider this haha
Is that the large or medium Nux board?
It’s the Large.
With rubber spacers, you can make it a bit wider and put the RC-600 on the bottom if you prefer.
Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/Zc4bcpQJ7cM/v-deo.html
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Yeah, awesome. I also have the Large so maybe I’ll switch to this from the Strymon Zuma. Really love the idea of being wireless.
Would this power a GT1000???
Mega frustrating that we in the U.S.A. can not buy this pedal. Because of some goofy restriction, it can't be shipped to America.
Yeah I believe so. 😔
There must be an alternative.
It seemed very interesting, then I read the reviews about the noise issues, so that turned me off... Let's hope Thomann fix that, maybe then I'll consider...
I haven’t had a noise issue on mine to be fair and not just saying that as this isn’t sponsored. I bought this. Only heard noise (from the device not through the audio cables) when the battery got really low.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Yeah, just like I wrote... the reviews turned me off. I haven't had any experience with it and I'm seriously considering a HB power-pro with the AC connector. Glad it's working for you! Thanks for spreading the word about those!
No worries. 👌
I purchased this a couple of days ago, love the idea. Sadly it’s introduced a lot of noise now, really disappointing 👎👎
Do you have a buffer? Or a noise gate? Is your chain in a right order? This is an iso powersupply. Im pretty sure that your rig is the problem
Please help....
Im a few steps into this new world...
Welcome to the new world .
What do you need help with?
@@JohnPaulMusicUK thank you! 👋 pfffff everything.. the power plant just came! And im wondering what's best to plug into it.. 👍 👌
the mk2 is sooooo a downgrade in comparison with the first one. 10 outputs but only 1 that can have the voltage switchable ??? it's sooo annoying i would have bought it if i could power my quand cortex with it (witch was possible with the mk1).
Ahhhh yeah. That’s fair. Shame.
Sorry, I don't understand Why can't this power the quad cortex compared to the mk1?
Hey please could you help me understand why the mk2 can't power the qc please?
Thomann will not ship to the USA because it’s “dangerous”. But I can get a 2500Wh solar generator shipped directly from China in 3 days. SMH.
🤦♂️
Damn. That’s a shame. Maybe worth seeing if there are any US stores that are Harley Benton distributors?
Unsure though.
@@JohnPaulMusicUKI contacted HB. They were not aware of the issue. Reverb is their only US outlet, and unfortunately none of these are available. No worries. Love the idea and I bet I can source something else. Thanks for the video and the idea!
