I've had 2 Voodoo Labs power supplies on the bottom of my board since I put it together. I did lister to a "Rig" video where some guitarists that don't have a ton of pedals will use 9V batt. because of the various clean or dirty power coming into the venue. Great video TK.

Great video Mr. Tone King, you rock!!! I personally prefer the box king because it does solve a problem for me. I use & love the digitech rap 360xp with the digitech jamman stereo, but they don't run on batteries! I gig a Lot!!! & some of those gigs are outdoors & weddings, & a lot of wedding gigs are turning to more contemporary music, so battery option is king!!!
I've been using a MXR power brick for about 15years and it's still working, no regrets about picking it up. I think the old MXR one's are actually built better than the newer one they have.

Very informative and well made Tutorial! I ve been nearly through all those stages and i finally use the "brick" #5 . Fortunately i did not mount the unit under the board, because if you do so you wont see the indicator if it goes weak and all of a sudden there is no more signal during you are giging. A very possitive side effect with cordless supply is the fact that you dont have to worry about hum. 😎

Really interesting. I was just about thinking how to power my wah pedals under my studio desk (two other pedalboards stay up aside for easier proper tweaking such as delays, reverbs etc.,) without messing around with too many cables. I think the bricks solution would be fine for me as I don't play live .... at least for the time being :-)
I like the idea of a battery powered power supply. If there is an electrical issue such as grounding in a venue, it does create an unnecessary buzz. By using a battery pack, you take that variable out.

Great video. Actually I built my own board with a simple usb 5v to 9v converter for small board as well like 3 years ago, so I guess that the 6th way heheh I wanted to build something like 529 USB and I even had a prototype but didn’t have time to figure out the issues I was having

I use the Boss BCB-60 portable plastic pedalboard that comes with built-in power and cables. Never fails me. It's been around for quite a while. I guess that falls under #5? No love shown there, I see.

Todd Flowers Also interesting is that 9v batteries vary in size. I know that in our Carvin guitar & bass a Duracell or Danelectro 9v battery flops around in the battery box but a yellow & blue Ray-O-vac 9v fits perfectly.

I have the 5v to 9v step up cables , negative center pin, on Reverb, along with a "stays on" phone powerbank. Not for everyone, but is inexpensive.

I used to use a Daisy chain but found it was too noisy, bought a Cioks power supply a few years ago and haven't had any noise problems since.
There is another that makes the rails the power and what would hold the pedal on carry the current and connect it into the pedal

Is there any noise or hum when the battery inside the pedalboard or powerbank left below 30%? And also does any noise occur when combining analog & digital pedal with different voltage powered by the powebank?
That BoxKing board looks like a great idea, but I’m pretty sure it was designed by someone who’s never been on a stage, and especially not on the road. All those outputs need to face inwards, not outwards. The way it’s set up, you’ll be sure to step on them on stage, and break them in the bag or case on the road.
Or, well, I know I would.
Mission now has a 529i with 6 300mA outputs and 2 500mA outputs. Mission also allows you to get 18V by putting 2 9V outputs in series. The Earthboard is even nearer than the BoxKing or Nomad.

I bought the Big Joe the day I saw your video demo and I’m still happy with it. The thing about about the Big Joe, it’s cheap enough to buy 2 so if you forget to charge if fully or it did happen to quit working, it would take 3 seconds to plug in the second one. Having the power built into the pedalboard sounded genius when you first said it, but the more I think about it the more problems I can see with it. What would you do for a backup and how long would it take to switch over? Does their rechargeable brick integrate into the system as a backup? That’s a lot of metal to waste once it quits working and you have to buy a new one. So it’s not environmentally friendly. Loved the video though! Keep bringing the new products because like I said, I’m still rocking the Big Joe!

If you could unscrew and replace out the internal 18650 batteries which are used to power it (as I understand it), this problem would be solved. I would expect it is powered by 6x 18650, 3 parallel vs 2 series, giving 7.4v output and approx 9000mah.
I contacted Boxking about the pedal board about a year ago. The only problem with it is when the batteries finally cannot be charged anymore and die, they can't be replaced. The batteries are built into the board.
I have the Boxking battery and it works well. I can run several pedals but you have to add up your mA. It is convenient not to have to crawl on the floor looking for an a/c outlet. I've never played more than 2 hours with it but there is plenty of power left when I'm done. The battery has 12800mAh.
how are those battery bricks 2 years later?
What if I have just like 4 pedals and I have the 9v cable that has an ad-on.... I guess, that makes it a total of 5 little 9v cables? Can I connected straight to the wall since I don't have a lot of pedals or what?

I got hip to the Box King about a month ago an knocked off my feet for it was the answer to pedal board blues all in one an plan to get one very soon before everybody start getting them an the price goes up.
With these, do you have to buy your own 9v cables or does it come with cables?
There is a new Boss RC10R coming out, but NO battery connection. I want to use it for busking, and some TC electronic stuff too looks great but no battery. Considering the Amperage pull from these new digital pedals, how to best power them. A simple 9V battery could work? Or is six AA batteries better? Could I even power a small amp? Rechargeable battery bricks sound like a good idea, but a bit expensive, i.e. adds a hundred dollars to a three hundred dollar pedal. To give you an idea, an average busker probable has a guitar, mic, plugged into a Roland Cube (in my case AC-33) which are both battery powered. HOWEVER, add a pedal like RC10R or TC Helicon Play Acoustic (no battery options) and what do we do?
Are the outputs on the Power LT XL isolated?
Check out the Mooer Power Bank S10. It’s rechargeable with multiple outputs that are isolated.

@@xdx2653 that post was 2 teases old. If pedals aren’t daisy chained that can cause noise and hum. I use the S10’s 18v out to power a MXR isolated power box. The Slight Hiss in my Pedal Chain to Amp went away.

I'm curious about the USB powered supply. USB is 500 milliamps at 5 volts, or 2500 milliwatts. Divide that by 9 volts and you get about 277 milliamps. How can it support a 500 milliamp power socket? It can't. Looks like it comes with a non-standard 12 watt USB supply which would give you about 1300 milliamps of output. But you're not going to supply even 2 of the 4 150 ma outputs from a laptop or phone charger.
I have declared the Truetone CS12 the new standard, not VooDoo Labs. CS12 is a ton of bang for your buck and every little design decision was well thought of - and bonus, a mounting rack comes WITH it, it's not an extra accessory. Voodoo Labs has rested too much on their laurels, they've been surpassed.
There's a company that makes pretty much the same thing as voodoo labs, but it's only $35bucks, on amazon.com. Donner power supply. It has 8 jacks for 9v, 1 jack for 12v, and 1 jack for 18v. I've had it on my pedalboard for about a yr. now, no issues. Option 2, with a 7 outlet surge protector. I'm actually thinking about buying another one, because of how cheap the price is, in case something happens to the one I got. Plus it's got blue led's, so it looks cool when it's lit up at night! Just fyi, for any guitarist on a budget, also, the 1spot, daisy chain, including the power adapter, I believe is $15bucks, all together at guitar center, fyi.

How do pedals matchup with the mAs? Exact or up or down from spec.

A plain 9v adapter with a daisy chain will do, if you don't mind a little noise (daisy chains are noisy)
option 3 needs a separate brick for each digital effect.
I know this is an old video but I love the channel and what you do. I'm looking to get into pedals and its pretty overwhelming. I have a Furman power conditioner that I plug into my regular wall outlet and then my amp is plugged into the power conditioner. I live in an apartment so its a tight squeeze but what does it mean when a pedal requires a 9V DC power supply with at least 150 MA?. (BTW i bought an 8 port daisy chain to hook up my big muff, holy grail nano, 2 TC Electr pedals, and then - separated by 3 pedals - i plug the two Boss pedals in as apart of the powered-daisy chain and NOTHIN. so mad!
Carbon-zinc battery (9 V, 6F22) or Alkaline battery (9 V, 6LR61)
Companies don't remove the ability to use a battery because they are going green they do it to save pennies and drive PSU sales. If they really did it to go green they'd give you rechargeable options built into the pedals.
No 6 - an individual power supply to each pedal, connected to a power strip.
Option 6:- Def Leppard T-shirt provides more power than the Hoover Dam :-)
How are you liking the BoxKing now that you've had it for a bit? I've read on another video that those rechargeable pedalboards struggle to power digital pedals, creating a high hum...As a busker these boards are drool-worthy but I can't justify buying it if it can't power my TC Helicon Play Acoustic, Line 6 M5, or DigiTech Trio+...Any chance you can check if the criticism is true & get back to me please? As I live in France, I can't just go and test the pedalboard at a store or buy it then return it easily (due to exorbitant taxes added on at customs when items are delivered here from North America)...Is there any chance you have a friend with some high current digital pedals who could test them on your board and see if they are under-powered or not? My fear is the pedals don’t get enough current or are receiving non isolated power. (From what I've read it can power one digital pedal but not more than one simultaneously. I've already emailed BoxKing/Outlaw but am waiting for an answer in the meantime). Thanks again.

I have the boxking (the small box) and it's working great. The day I got it, I connected up 5 pedals and a looper and had it playing for 7 hours before i saw the battery level go down to 1 led (full charge shows 4 leds). From what I understand, since it's not plugged into an outlet, it doesn't need to be isolated. I don't use high current digital pedals so I can't confirm how it does but it works well with what I do have.

I don't recommend beginners pigging up a one spot power supply unless you know what you're doing or you want to connect max 3 low voltage pedals or 2 with higher. When you draw too much power from the supply it starts taking power from pedals and it causes a lot a lot of noise the more pedals you connect. A very bad experience to beginners who just want to have fun with their new pedals...
