Excellent concept, as you ay amazing no-one else has done this before. I do take a battery brick which will power my pedal board if necessary but admit I've never actually used it live outside of home.
My battery powered rig is the same rig. I just add a Jackery 240. Totally recommend it to everyone. It's basically a rechargeable a camping battery. You can charge it with a solar panel too. I've powered a guitar amp, my pedal board, and a bass amp and his pedlaboard off of a power strip on a Jackery 240. No noticeable noise issue. Lasted 3 hours just fine. I think we had like 50-60% battery left.
I'm running my board on battery as well. HX stomp is the center piece. I have a 30k mAh USB battery pack for the power. Using a myVolts Ripcord to power the HX Stomp directly. Then a Mission 529 USB to power up to 5 additional pedals that plugs into the second USB port on the battery pack. To top it all off, I'm running a MIDI Captain that has it's own built in battery to control everything. It will easlily run over 4 hours without a charge but I keep a wall wart with USB-C charger at hand so I can plug it in if needed. Great at gig's when you can't find a spare outlet near by for your pedal board!
I've been powering my boards with batteries for a few years now - I love the freedom it provides. I do it with a voltage converter (Mission 529M usually, but others too) and a generic power bank, which gives me the flexibility to bring a second battery and swap them between sets if needed. I believe HB rates the built in battery of your board at 7.4v@9000mah. This equates to 7400mah at 9v, and of course 9v is what we actually use. So, if your board draws 1.5A (just a guess for your board), you should get 4 hours (maybe a little more) of run time on a charge. There is some loss due to the power conversion, but 80% efficiency is not out of the question. Add wireless from your guitar to your baord, and it is a total game changer.
I have an HX Stomp XL and an HX Effects on a Holeyboard 123 (a discounted "scratched" unit that looked like new), with the Stomp on the upper deck. I searched hard for power supply options. I ended up getting two Harley Benton ISO-1 AC Pro Modular power supplies. One of them is enough to power both the Stomp and the HX Effects. The stomp uses two of the outputs (500 + 500 mA), the HX Effects uses the remaining three. A cool thing about the ISO-1 is the "Modular" bit-there is an IEC jack on one end that you use to get AC into it. But there's another IEC jack on the other end (opposite gender) that you can use to send the AC on to another ISO-1 (using an IEC jumper/extension cable). So when I use it with another supply, that 2nd supply doesn't require another AC line to the wall or channel strip. You can just chain them together. (I've read that the HX Effects can run off of 1000 mA, but it comes with a larger supply than that, and I found that with 1000 mA, though it did appear to run with no audio issues, the display flickered. Also, I measured the draw with its own supply and it was a bit over 1000 mA.) I was hesitant to get the Harley Benton supplies because the price seemed low for the capabilities they provide. I worried they wouldn't be properly built. So of course the 1st thing I did when I got them was open one up! Inside, the PCBs are labeled "Vitoos Music AC05." Evidently HB has a rebranding deal with Vitoos; the ISO-1 looks a lot like the Vitoos AD5S Link. (Incidentally, Vitoos also makes "battery power banks" for pedals.) The supply is well-designed and well-made (the heatsinks seem a bit skimpy, but so far it hasn't gotten too hot so they appear to be fine). It uses custom transformers to truly isolate each of the 5 supplies; that's where I thought they'd be skimping at that price point. I'm pretty impressed with it. -Tom
That board looks great. I have a joyo battery powered power supply and have the same voodoo doubler to hx stomp. The rechargeable power banks are getting really good these days. And great value
Looks fab, but the spec says 50 minutes at full load. I’d be interested to see how long the battery lasts with a full charge, powering a more modest board like yours John.
Hi Nathan I use boxking PB4813 Powered Rechargeable Pedalboard + Bag. Full charge l can gig for 5 or 6 depends on how frequently I use my overdrive pedals.
Did you used the Empress Echo System for the intro loop?, Can you do a video showing how to emulate that with a Helix?, it sounds like the new Chase Bliss pedal Reverse Mode C
In the US I've been using Outlaw Effects Nomad brand powered pedalboards for my acoustic only boards for about 3 years or so. I use the deeper board. They work great and will last more than 4 hours (most of my acoustic gigs are 3 hours with the occasional 4 and once this year a crazy 5).
I ordered a usb to hx cable from some place in the Netherlands. I cant remember the name. I use regular cheap cell battery banks to power it and it works surprisingly well.
Hi John. I'm new to the channel, and really enjoying the content. Wondering if you're using this direct or with an amp (assume with an amp). I have the HX Stomp and wanted to use it with some pedals and go ampless, but found that it sounded pretty bad in that set up. I've bought a HELIX now, but am dithering about whether another solution with the HX exists, as I like the idea of having the flexibility of my pedals. Crucially - I don't want to lug my amp to gigs anymore. Any advice? Cheers.
So how long will the last with an HX Stomp? Thomann rates the at only 4500mAh at 7.4v (which converts to 3700mAh at 9v!) which sounds like it might barely last 3 hours!?
Eh.. I got a SpaceShip Power 50M (not the battery one). With HX Stomp, two Digitech JamMans and SDrum (which should be well within the power output of the power supply), I get tons of noise, with the biggest culprit being HX Stomp (with SDrum being a close second). Apparently the power supply is not isolated well enough. Maybe the battery operation takes care of that but I'm really disappointed that now I have to use a built-in power supply and two more outside power bricks to keep the noise within acceptable bounds..
Can you do a video about your guitar setup is it the same across your other guitars? I only got two guitars and it has different actions but I can’t tell which one I like coz they both play nice despite the difference. I just got curious how other guitarist thought about it.
Unbelievable!!! Im doing a battery powered board as i write this. I have an mxr m300 reverb that keeps getting interference from something coming through my truetone c7 power supply.. no other pedals do it. Just that one. At one venue it is unusable as noise is so loud. Usb to 9v converter arrived yestereday £5, phase inverter from truetone £8 to get center negative £15 power bank from argos...sweet
Ignoring the board, which looks a very interesting option btw. We’re you using the Angry Driver on the clips you played, and if so, what sort of mode/settings were on it - it sounded quite different to many of the other demos I’ve watched.
BIG PLUS: All the outputs are individually isolated. This is an important feature as several (many?) higher-end pedals need isolated power. Pleasant surprise to see this feature on a more budget-minded product.
This link is for a bundle with the Palmer 40 supply, sure this is the same one ? 1-6 300ma and 7-8 500mA max total 2A. Doesn’t seem to line up exactly. I’ve gone through a few HB spaceships and the Palmer supplies. Graphics on the back and the feet here are totally different John. Any other links or actual spec on the mAh of the internal battery? For the money these tend to work out well. I have the spaceship 60. Good at home but you wouldn’t want to lug it around loaded. The bits and pieces in the kit are quite good as is the inc, used velcro. Nothing remotely like the sticking power of 3M stuff but if you are flipping stuff on and off in a hurry I reckon that is a plus.
Right, I don't see anything about a battery on the linked page, nor on the page for the supply bar at Palmer's website. I was specifically looking for specs on mA-hr or amp-hours or watt-hours for the battery, to get a sense of how long it could run a current-sucking pedal like an HX Stomp (or esp. adding an H90 as well). -Tom
Aha, the affiliate link is to the SpaceShip 40, but if you look instead for the Spaceship Power 40-B, that one appears to be the one John is using. And the specs are there for the battery-33.3 W-hr, corresponding to 50 min at full load (31.5 W; what current that corresponds to depends on the voltage settings). For a Stomp and an H90, I think it might last about 2 hr on the battery, and about 3 hr for just the Stomp.
That could be emf as much as power. If you are sitting near computer monitors etc, it can exacerbate the issue. A switch mode power supply like ciox, Zuma etc should take care of most power related issues.
Tuned in for gear recommendation, stayed to see a baby left alone with a literal shark

Would love to know what runtime you were able to get out of it.
Thanks for showing your setup here and how you're prepared for any hiccups! Hope all is well John! Have a great weekend! 🔥🎸🎶🙌
This is a cool product - btw putting the cable package on your bb made me laugh out loud dude. Too cute.
John, your content is as rich and inspiring as your playing! Cool idea.
And your little one is beautiful!
That board looks great. I have a joyo battery powered power supply and have the same voodoo doubler to hx stomp. The rechargeable power banks are getting really good these days. And great value
This was super helpful! I've been looking for a way to do a battery powered board! This is miles better than using a powerbank and a cioks 4.
Thanks!

MyVolts Ripcord is the name.
I've got the same issue on my Daddario pedalboard. I think I need to make a trip out to the hardware store and see if I can find some taller screws.

Smart solution HB!
Could this power ampero 2 stage?

So it can run plugged in as well? A lot of the battery solutions cannot.
Came for the angry driver, stayed for the vibe.
I'd have just expanded the D'addario and put the power on top. But the power built in is an idea whose time has come.
HB says the battery is good for 50 minutes under full load. What is you battery life experience with your rig?
Could this power a quad cortex?
Adorable, man I miss my kids being that little
Excellent video, great board!
will that also run a Fractal FM3?
Heyhey, Is the amped 1 working also with an fm9 and 4*12 cab for exampel?
What's the pedal between the HX Stomp and Angry Driver?

Would you share an hx stomp preset that works well with other pedals? For powering i've been using the cioks dc7.
Awesome John!!! Does it power the HX effects as well?
Yay, it' ELODIE, Hangin out with DAD!!!

How many mA are you supplying the HX? Is 1A enough?
YEEEEES - is this finally out?!
@@johnnathancordy I dont get it

You could have used the Stormtrooper Stomp?
Found something called lil'moxie that powers up to 8 pedals and is powered by usb power brick. There is a demo on my page.
Now all you need is a couple of wireless packs and you're set.
Harley Benton makes some nice stuff but not all of it is available in North America. The range of power supplies being one example.
omg shonk 🥺
Battery-powered board is not the answer.
Why torture us with 2 minutes of playing to begin with?
Any noise issues solved? I have quite noisy power at my house, particularly bad with single coils. Does this address any of those problems?
